Rmi + applet closing problem
I am running a client server application .
I need to close an applet(client) fro mthe server .
is this podssible or does it cause security problems?/?
without javascript please .
Is it also possible to just convert my applet into a frame , this will allow
me to close the frame fro mthe server(syste.exit(0) but might
have security problems which th aplpe tdoes not have ??
any ideas??
An applet can only be closed by a browser when the user moves away from the document that contains the applet or when the browser is closed.

Problem of running rmi applet and client for Javacard 3.0.2 Connected
Need help for running rmi application for Java Card 3.0.2 connected version. I am trying to move a working rmi applet & client from 3.0.2 Classic version to Connected version. Then I found that they are so different and I have no idea how to run my application :(
Here are what I have done:
- I have modified the Classic HelloWorld applet to an rmi applet. It is OK when I build and run the application in netbeans. The Applet can be selected successfully.
My problems are:
- How to connect a rmi client to the rmi applet? Here are what I have done:
+ Run rmi applet in netbeans
+ Run 'rmic' command to generate stub
+ Run rmiregistry outside of netbeans
+ Build and run rmi client application outside of netbeans by typing "ant all"
However, the rmi client was not able to connect to the applet:
[java] java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
Would this be a problem of netbeans? Could someone tell me how to run rmi applet/client within or outside netbeans. Thanks a lot!Well finally I figured out that CREF-emulators (from JCDK 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 3.0.1 classic) do not support cryptographic extensions at all.
BUT JCWDE(from JCDK 2.2.1, 2.2.2) - support, but this kind of simulator quite hard to use, because it does not have state between launches.
About CJCRE(from JCDK 3.0.1 connected) - still don't know, seems not support cryptographic extensions. -
hi~
i have a rmi applet
when i run the applet (use appletviewer) is ok
but it's on bowser , can't work
can anynoe tell me maybe what's problem
how can i do
thankssecurity restriction is probably the problem. Try signing the applet or write a policy file and send it with the other files in the client's package for rmi

Applet socket problem in client-server, urgent!
Dear All:
I have implemented a client server teamwork environment. I have managered to get the server running fine. The server is responsible for passing messages between clients and accessing Oracle database using JDBC. The client is a Java Applet. The code is like the following. The problem is when I try to register the client, the socket connection get java.security.AccessControlException: access denied(java.net.SocketPermission mugca.its.monash.edu.
au resolve)
However, I have written a Java application with the same socket connection method to connect to the same server, it connects to the server without any problem. Is it because of the applet security problem? How should I solve it? Very appreciate for any ideas.
public class User extends java.applet.Applet implements ActionListener, ItemListener
public void init()
Authentication auth = new Authentication((Frame)anchorpoint);
if(auth.getConnectionStreams() != null) {
ConnectionStreams server_conn = auth.getConnectionStreams();
// Authenticates the user and establishes a connection to the server
class Authentication extends Dialog implements ActionListener, KeyListener {
// Object holding information relevant to the server connection
ConnectionStreams server_conn;
final static int port = 6012;
// Authenticates the user and establishes connection to the server
public Authentication(Frame parent) {
// call the class Dialog's constructor
super(parent, "User Authentication", true);
setLocation(parent.getSize().width/3, parent.getSize().height/2);
setupDialog();
// sets up the components of the dialog box
private void setupDialog() {
// create and set the layout manager
//Create a username text field here
//Create a password text field here
//Create a OK button here
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
authenticateUser();
dispose();
// returns the ConnectionStreams object
public ConnectionStreams getConnectionStreams() {
return(server_conn);
// authenticates the user
private void authenticateUser() {
Socket socket;
InetAddress address;
try {
// open socket to server
System.out.println("Ready to connect to server on: " + port);
socket = new Socket("mugca.its.monash.edu.au", port);
address = socket.getInetAddress();
System.out.println("The hostname,address,hostaddress,localhost is:" + address.getHostName() + ";\n" +
address.getAddress() + ";\n" +
address.getHostAddress() + ";\n" +
address.getLocalHost());
catch(Exception e) {
displayMessage("Error occured. See console");
System.err.println(e);
e.printStackTrace();
}Hi, there:
Thanks for the help. But I don't have to configure the security policy. Instead, inspired by a message in this forum, I simply upload the applet to the HTTP server (mugca.its.monash.edu.au) where my won server is running. Then the applet is download from the server and running fine in my local machine.

Applet running problem in ie 6.0 under Windows XP
Applet running problem in ie 6.0 under Windows XP
I have a PC running Iternet Explorer 6.0 running under Windows XP. I have developed an applet using JDK 1.3 which is running fine with applet viewer , but it is not running in ie. I have installed Netscape navigator and Opera 5. the applet is running fine in both of these browsers but somehow it is not running in IE.
Later on I upgraded my JDK to 1.4. It also displays use Java2 (V1.4.1) for <applet> (requires restart) tck marked in Advance section under Tools-Options menu of IE.
I have also tried and set various options in my Control Panels Java Plug-in but all in vain. I have searched the sites for this solution but no one answers specifically.
I know its a small problem due to discarded JVM in IE under Windows XP but give me solution for that.
Thanks in Advance

Please help me regarding RMI Applet Application?
Hi Friends..
Please help me describe the work-flow of RMI Applet Application..
Currently, i use Java Card 2.2.1.. In the package Java Card 2.2.1 there's an example of RMI Applet Application..
in that RMI Applet Application there are 3 Java files, namely :
1. public interface Purse extends Remote
2. public class PurseImpl extends CardRemoteObject implements Purse
3. public class PurseApplet extends Applet
There's also RMIDemo.opt file.. and in the contain of that RMIDemo.opt file, there's only PurseApplet class that would be converted to CAP file..
so, what is the use of Purse Interface and PurseImp class?.. and how to use both of them?..
Please help me regarding this..
Thanks in advance..Hi Shane, thanks for clarifying that.. :).. Ok. i'm going to learn hard..
Sorry, i've a doubt regarding this thread ..
In that thread, that's mentioned purse.jar containing :
- Purse.class
- PurseApplet.class
- PurseImpl_Stub.class
- PurseImpl.class
The only class that i'm wondering is PurseImpl_Stub.class..
Why this class required, whereas i don't found it in the RMIDemo application that shipped with JCDK 2.2.1, and JCDK 2.2.2 as well..
I've tried to create other Java Card RMI Application, but it requires the "Stub" class..
Here's the error message :
java.rmi.StubNotFoundException: com.latihan.rmi.DataMahasiswaImpl_Stub
at com.sun.javacard.ocfrmiclientimpl.JCCardObjectFactory.getRemoteObject(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javacard.javax.smartcard.rmiclient.CardObjectFactory.getObject(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javacard.javax.smartcard.rmiclient.JavaCardRMIConnect.getInitialReference(Unknown Source)
at testRMIClient.DataMahasiswaClient.main(DataMahasiswaClient.java:43)How to create and what's the contain of that "Stub" class?..
Can i know the source code of PurseImpl_Stub.java file?..
Thanks in advance..

The Security Problem of RMI-Applet?
Hi,
I used jdk1.3, Apache Jserv as the environments.
Then I downloaded helloWorld sample from java.
sun.com and wanted to make it work in Java Applet.
It runs ok with HelloClient.java. However, there are
errors when with HelloApplet.java:
HelloApplet execption: access denied(java.net.SocketPermission
128.104.179.36:1099 connect,resolve)...
I ran server program as:
java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=http://128.104.179.36/myclasses/
-Djava.security.policy=e:/policy examples.hello.HelloImpl
And I copied all classes into the directory of myclasses.
Here is my e:\policy :
grant {
// Allow everything for now
permission java.security.AllPermission;
permission java.net.SocketPermission "128.104.179.36:1099",
"connect,accept,resolve";
And in jserv.properties, I added
java.rmi.server.codebase=e:\its817\Apache\Apache\htdocs\myclasses\
Can anyone tell me what is the problem?
Thanks very much!For applets you need also a policy file.
It have to be named .java.policy and be stored in your Home Directory:
C:\Windows\Profiles\<yourName>\.java.policy.

Opening and closing a frame from an applet security problem
can I open a frame or a window from an applet and close the frame by using
System.exit(0) for the frame or will it throw a security problem.I am using system.exit(0) to exit the JVM.
dispose()
Releases all of the native screen resources used by this Window, its subcomponents, and all of its owned children. That is, the resources for these Components will be destroyed, any memory they consume will be returned to the OS, and they will be marked as undisplayable.
If this frame have to be close and open again don't use dispose.
there is no check whether a frame is active? what you can do is set the the new frame to null (frame = null) and also when you dispose it, this will let you know if the frame is active or not.

hi all,
I am in need of some guidance, my program uses a GUI but i have a problem in that when the user clicks the window close button at the top right of the screen i need to execute some code but i am unable to do so, have i got the correct method? :o(
public boolean handleEvent (Event e)
boolean value = false;
if ((e.target == this) && (e.id == Event.WINDOW_DESTROY))
if (listener != null)
//here i would like to execute some code before setting the boolean variable
value = true;
else
value = false;
return value;
}//end handle event()Good day,
As far as I'm concered, the "handleEvent (Event e)" has been deprecated and "processEvent(AWTEvent event)" should be used instead since JDK 1.1.
I have an occurance of that "handleEvent" thing that I would like to "convert" to "processEvent", however I'm having problems with that.
The first, which is simple, is to remove the true/false on the return statement of the handler. "handleEvent()" returns a boolean, whereas "processEvent()" returns nothing.
When I try to get the value of the "event.id" or "event.target", the compiler claims that the information is protected.
Can someone be nice enough to provide a code snippet to ease the transition between the "handleEvent()" and "processEvent()" things ?
Best regards. -
I'm programming a RMI based messenger system. I tested the server and a java console client... all worked very well!
After that, I programmed a very simple test applet (source below).
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.applet.*;
import java.rmi.*;
import java.rmi.server.*;
public class MessageApplet extends Applet {
private MessageDaemon messaged;
public MessageApplet() {}
public void init() {
try {
// connect RMI Server
messaged = (MessageDaemon)Naming.lookup("rmi://myhost.net/messaged");
// RMI test
System.out.println(messaged.whois("username").getName());
catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
I start the applet under Windows 98 (JDK 1.3.1) with the following command:
appletviewer MessageApplet.html
and all I get is the following exception:

If I run the same applet unter MRJ (Mac OS Runtime for Java, JDK 1.1.8, Apple Applet Runner) on my Mac, I get another exception:
java.rmi.UnmarshalException: Return value class not found; nested exception is: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: MessageDaemonImpl_Stub

at com.apple.mrj.JManager.AVDispatcherThread.run(JMAppletViewerOld.java)
What could be the problem? Do I have to add some permissions? The client could load the MessageDaemonImpl_Stub class without any problems, so there is surely no problem with the server/rmiregistry.
Thank you very much.
Best Regards,
Adrian R.some additional information:
I started the applet with appletviewer (1.3.1) under Windows...
appletviewer http://192.168.0.1/msg/MessageApplet.html
(no problems)
appletviewer http://myhost.net/msg/MessageApplet.html
(security exception allthough myhost.net is the same host as 192.168.0.1!)
The server ist running on a linux system with 2 network interfaces: LAN: 192.168.0.1 and WAN: (DHCP, dynamically linked to a DNS). I'm testing the applet from a host in the LAN and only the url http://192.168.0.1/msg/MessageApplet.html did work.
I also tested the applet with MS IE 6 and all I got is the following exception:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.rmi.Naming
on my Mac I tested the applet in MS IE 5 and it worked with the URL: http://192.168.0.1/msg/MessageApplet.html but http://myhost.net/msg/MessageApplet.html didn't work.
What about IE 6? Is it possible that IE doesn't support RMI?!?! But what to do? And how can I solve the problem regarding "IP vs. DNS"?
Best Regards

IE hangs when applet closed - need to use taskman
I am fairly new to java and have been working on an application that interfaces a commercially available webserver with a 8 bit microcontroller. The micro communicates with the webserver via RS-232 but the applet gets the info through ethernet.
My problem is that when the applet is waiting for data using the following code, if the browser is closed(IE) IE hangs and requires using the taskman to terminate the program. If the browser is closed in any other condition it shuts down normally. What can I do to get this process to terminate correctly?
Thanks in advance.
while ( (gtp != null) && (count <= 42) ) {
if (gtp.available() > 0){
in = gtp.receive();
// store received board disc status bytes
for (i = 0; i < in.length; i++) {
if (board[count] != in[i]-48)
iMove_loc = count;
board[count] = in[i]-48;
count = count +1;
}That's a very tight loop, hogging the CPU all the while. Time for a redesign, to be sure, to get it to be 'notified' when data is available rather than polling like that. Or at least throttle down the polling quite a bit by introducing sleeps.
Also, I hope that loop is in a separate thread from the applet's main thread.
When you shut down IE, the applet's stop/destroy methods will be called - at which point you should 'notify' the code being executed in that loop that it's time to get out. -

Need help with applet related problems
First of all hello to everyone. I'm new to this forum. I usually can solve my problems google-ing around, but this time I just ran out of ideas.
I'm trying to develop a jni applet that can run native code for performance. I used netbeans so far and the applet works great when run from within the ide. At some point a managed to make the applet run inside firefox and iexplore, however somehow i screwed something up and now i can't make it run anymore. I don't really know what i did but i think it may be related to these lines in the console since everything up until awt works fine in the applet:
basic: JNLP2ClassLoader.findLibrary: Looking up native library: jawt.dll
network: Looking up native library in: C:\Users\Gladiator\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\10\1082924a-7851bf5e-n\jawt.dll
basic: Native library jawt.dll not found
Ofc i may be wrong.
This also my be a local problem because a friend of mine tried the applet himself and said it's working.
All the jars are selfsigned.
below i posted the console output in case you want to take a look. Also I am interested about the "try again.." messages that seem to pop over and over again.

-----I am sorry for bold, i came here to ask for help. I used bold to differentiate output from my questions since i couldn't find tags.
I already validated jnlp using JaNeLA and got only optimization suggestions.
As I said in first post, this works for a friend of mine, so it's possible a local issue with my java or something ...
Also i reinstalled jre/jdk 7.0, then uninstalled and installed latest jre/jdk 6.
Hope I didn't leave a bad impression, i just want help.
