RMI in a mission critical app?

hi, we are evaluating the best way to implement some distributed apps in java (using swing), one of which is an health care system (the administrative part), as it could be deployed in various branches of the same hospital, we would like to know if rmi is the best approach to this kind of app, or if ejbs could be a better one considering the performance issues associated tipically with it.
we are considering to get a maximum user load of about 200 simultaneous people, so maybe ejb couldn't offer a big advantage in this point.
thanks in advance for your time, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is rather like asking whether it is pefereable to have baked potatoes or glass dinner plates at a dinner function.
RMI and EJB are technologies that address different parts of the problem. RMI is about communicating between the client and the server, and EJB is about how the server is implemented. When communicating with EJBs one is more or less required to use a variant of RMI, RMI-IIOP, thought the differences between the two are minor from the perspective of the application developer.
As an aside, I continue to be of the view that EJB is a solution looking fo a problem.
Sylvia.

  • Touchpad cable Installation-Please Help, Mission Critical! Probook 4420s

The small, "L" shaped cable end that connects from the motherboard to the end connected to the touch pad is disconnected.  The end is "L" shaped, with vertical portion of the "l" a solid blue plastic piece, labeled MB on one end.  The horizontal portion of the "L is smaller, at the bottom, and has a metal connector (not Copper) one one side, blue on the order.  I know to insert it into the motherboard port labeled "finger", but I'm unsure how the end connects correctly.  This is a mission critical PC, as my office is closed, and need I need to connect to our Citrix environment.  Would some please provide me with some instruction, or a video of how this can be installed?  This is not a driver or device setting issue, only a hardware install issue.
    Thanks,

Howdy slowpoke43, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Please help! I am just faking it here based on a few message boards I've read. Will this actually work properly?
LOL, if your faking it you're the best!
    1. Yes, absolutely... no CCC would be best in my experience/opinion.
    2. Yes, the more he better... Free Space is no longer our Free Space, but OSX's.
    3. Indeed, & if you have the correct version of DW, do that.
    4. Yes, not long, A/C power is great.

    6. Yes, boot off the 10.6 DVD, & no Snow Leopard does by default what we used to call an Archive & Install, saves & updates all your info, APPs, Music, etc., it may quarantine a few things or not but will tell you.
    7. Absolutely, but Panic won't be needed with your great preparation & Bootable Backups!
    8. Not quite sure I understand, but run SL for a few days before you do anything.
    9. Yeah, but again with you doing everything right from the gitgo, I can't picture that happening.
    10. Yes indeed, the hangup with yours is that it only holds 2GB of RAM... a pain in 10.5 & up IME.
Again let me say... GONGRATS, I've never ever seen anybody so well prepared & informed despite your diffidence!

  • Could I use EJB in mission-critical task, like telecom realtime billing?

We will begin a project about telecom billing. The key point of the project is the realtime billing, which is must be processed with high speed and efficiency. We have a plan to use Tuxedo on which to run some services coded by c lanaguage.Other management facilities and interfaces with other system could be built by java(EJB).
Now ,I am wonder why couldn't we using EJB in billing task ? Is there any success story about using EJB model to build mission-citical system? or is EJB good for that?
    thanks

    Joy Wind,
AFAIK, The answer is NO. Java itself is not "currently" suitable for real time applications.
However, there is a community process going on at http://www.rtj.org/.
There is also a reference implementation available which you can check out.
    http://www.timesys.com/prodserv/java/index.cfm
I guess you can use it for proto-types and demos. However, if you want to use it in some mission critical application then you have to wait till it becomes a part of standard java.
    hope this helps.
    regards,
    Abhishek.

  • Not a mission critical question:

This isnt a matte that is affecting my work, but it would be great to know why its happening (my supervisor cant explain it either)
This goes back to another thread, with regard to autoconfig.
Our system has a db tier with, oracle user ORADBDEV
On the tier we have two users:
    applmgr APPCLDEV
    oracle user APPDBDEV
Running autoconfig for APPCLDEV went fine.
Running for APPDBDEV did not. It completed, but some paths are still not correct.
For exmaple : echo $SCRIPT_TOP returns /oradbi3/oracle/devcomn/admin/scripts/DEV_**cl (it should be /DEV_**db)
Before running autoconfig I changed the uname -S to ***db. ALso changed it in smit hostname.
Its just annoying that now I have to remember that certain paths are not configured correctly. I was very careful in selecting the correct paths when running the adcfgclone.pl also.
Like I say, its not mission critical, just a pain in the rump.
    Thanks.

Running for APPDBDEV did not. It completed, but some paths are still not correct.
For exmaple : echo $SCRIPT_TOP returns /oradbi3/oracle/devcomn/admin/scripts/DEV_**cl (it should be /DEV_**db)Dan,
As APPDBDEV user is the owner of the database tier files, did you source the database env file (NOT the application env file) before running AutoConfig?

  • Mission control app arrangement

Does anyone know if there is a method/algorithm/plan for how apps are arranged within the focused desktop when you open Mission Control?  I understand that each desktop is arranged in the order of most recent use (unless that preference is unchecked)....but when looking at the Desktop in focus, the apps simply spread out all over the place.  Is there any order to the disarray?   It doesn't seem to be alphabetical, and it doesn't seem to be based on recency of use.  Of course, there aren't clean rows and columns, so maybe it's just haphazard and can't be changed.  I would prefer some sort of order so I know what part of the screen to look at for the app I'm interested in.

You can assign an application to a specific desktop. In Mission Control, move the application to the desktop you want, make it the active desktop, and then go to to the dock, control - click the application ad choose Options/Assign to this desktop.
Mission Control – Work in Multiple Spaces
If you want to cut down the number of desktops, there is also an option to remove the Dashboard as a desktop and have it work like it did in Snow Leopard. That can be set in System Preferences/Mission Control by deselecting show Dashboard as a  Space. You can access the Dashboard by clicking on the Dashboard icon in the dock or using the FN 12 key.

  • Linux in Critical Apps - Customer Base

Does someone know some examples of Oracle running Critical Applications on Linux?
I also would like to know how many customers (aproximately) are running Oracle in production environments.
    Thanks so much,
    Andre.

    Andre,
We are running 3 applications on Linux with Oracle 8.1.7 in production and have no problem. We have made a strategic decision to migrate all our Oracle databases of Sun to Intel/Linux. We are currently stress testing Oracle 9i on Debian Linux 2.4.6 kernel on a 4 way processor. Sofar testing has shown that some of our batch applications run a factor 4 faster on Linux then on our Sun box and that is only on a two way processor compared with our 8-way Sun 4500. We have now 10 Dell 2 way processor rackmounts running oracle 8.1.7 and 9i. We have two 200Gb databases running on 2 boxes for development and testing. We are running Oracle Forms/Report Server(s) on W2K/Intel. Our core critical application and datawarehouse will run on Intel/Linux within 12 months if the stress testing remains as good as now (400 users) and now performance or stability problems.

  • Slow stateful failover for mission critical applications

I have two CSS running vip redundancy,ip interface redundancy and redundant-index on a ASR active-backup model.
They are attached to separate 3750 which share vlan info via a port channel.
When the master fails, we see the VRIR negotiation and mastership of VIPs occurs normally but the script that we run to validate our services fails and the services go to a down state.
Since the gateway for the reals is a redundant VIP that stays alive always based on a DUMMY service, we believe this could be a mac address table update on the 3750.
Traffic back from the reals is still sent to the "old" port where the gateway used to live.
Failover takes several minutes and TCP sessions timeout defeting stateful failover.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks

  • Maybe not mission critical, but you know... MaxThon and debugger plugin

So, I was absolutely overjoyed about six months ago when I finally realised you could configure FB to point to browsers other than IE and FIreFox for debugging, and have been switching between Safari, IE, Chrome, Firefox happily ever since - with a lot of benefits to me as I like to have documentation open in one browser, test in another etc. Also very useful for testing conferencing stuff as you can have different user sessions in each of the browsers without conflicting.
    So...
Then I updated my BIOS and Windows put in this little link on my desktop to download some more browsers and I thought, "well, why not?"
    So...
Now I am testing against Opera too, but _not_ MaxThon.
Weirdly, every other browser I have is on 11.5 debugger plugin, but MaxThon is resolutely on 11.3 non-debugger. I've been to FlashPlayer download and downloaded the latest debuggers, but still nothing.
I've a nasty suspicion it may be like Chrome which uses some godawful, concocted, custom system to do something unwanted for no good reason but unlike Google, there aren't enough people who care enough to find out.
Which is where I come in...
Anybody know how to get debugger plugin to play nicely with MaxThon?
    Cheers,
    G

    Cool.
Their techies responded (very quickly) in the forums to say:
"You can force M3 to use your system version in ultra mode by deleting NPSFW32.dll from prog files > Maxthon3  >   webkit  >  Nnplugins folder"
So, I now have FB setup to use IE, FF, Safari, Chrome, Opera and MaxThon (retro and ultra modes).
MaxThon is a very cool browser, btw. Love the gestures and shortcuts.

I am getting the very same problem with search in java help. My application crashes when I try to perform a search. I am getting the following exception. I tried this with jhall version 1.1.2_01 and 1.1.3 and both caused the VM to crash. However version 1.1.1 caused the exception but the VM did not crash.

  • My iPad doesn't list app updates

    Hi,
I've refrained from updating apps for a while, as I like mission critical apps to stay the same until projects are over...
But I occassionally go in and selectively update apps if they aren't mission critical or are, but don't have major interface changes I'm unfamiliar with.
So app update notices have gotten over 60.
Now my iPad mini, has seems to no longer beable to load all the app updates... I go to the updates section of the app store and it loads for a while, then just has a blank white screen.
Tapping on update all does not do anything.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Fleet phones: Why must each user have their own App Store account?

I've purchased roughly 25 iPhones for my employees and am trying to lumber through the tedious process of managing these as fleet assets.  There are a handful of mission-critical apps I'd like to deploy.  I've signed up with an MDM platform (Bushel).  I've enrolled in both of Apple's fleet programs (VPP and DEP).  And, still, I'm running into precisely the obstacle I'm needing to get around:  the requirement that every user has their own individual App Store account, with a Credit Card number on file, etc.
Why must this be?  These are company-owned phones.  Most of my employees are unionized and, quite frankly, the union is none too happy about the nature of the apps I'm deploying (which have to do with GPS tracking and time/attendance).  I simply cannot require my union employees to sign up for an account in their names and require a credit card number.
Even lowly Blackberry figured this out a long time ago.  If Apple is going after more fleet business, they need to become more fleet friendly.

I did some searches before my post, but actually found some things AFTER I made my post that sounded encouraging. If I understand correctly, we should be able to continue sharing the AppleID we use to buy apps and music on all of our devices. We can configure our personal devices and computers to use separate personal iCloud accounts, but somehow share the music and apps with each other. I guess I'm still not clear on how it'll work. :-)

  • Netware 6.5 sp8 server abending on WSPIPX.NLM

On one of our Netware 6.5 SP8 servers, the server is starting to abend with the message "The CPU encountered a problem executing code in WSPIPX.NLM."
The server was rock solid, rarely had an issue. I just noticed it abended today. I then looked at the abend.log, the server abended 3 times today, within the last week it abended 8 times. We added the lines:
    set Client File Caching Enabled=Off
    set Level 2 Oplocks Enabled=Off
in the Autoexec.ncf 5 days ago.
The change helped with a file locking issue on the server. The fix appears to have solved an issue with Windows 7 PCs and a mission critical app running on the server. But did the fix cause my new abends?
Or is this a memory issue, maybe a failing memory chip?
The abends happen even when no one is in the office (about half the time).
any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks

  • Before You Upgrade to 10.5.2 - If It Ain't Broken Don't Fix

    *DO NOT UPGRADE MID PROJECT.*
*DO NOT UPGRADE BEFORE CLONING YOUR BOOT DRIVE.*
*DO NOT UPGRADE IF IT AIN'T BROKEN*

Here's a list of known new features:

    1. The combo update is found here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1052comboupdate.html
And may help with fixing issues with the Software Update version of 10.5.2, or the "delta" version designed just for 10.5.1.
    2. Wait until your mission critical apps have all been tested with it.
    3. Wait until any hardware you use has been tested with it.
    4. Wait until any system addons you use have been tested with it.
    5. Only upgrade after backing up your data at least twice, dismounting and disconnecting those backups.
    6. Disable all third party modification utilities before updating, unless you know the version of those utilities is compatible with the update.
    7. Make sure your hard drive has at least 9 GB + an arbitrary 15% of the disk space free before applying the update + double the update's file size. This will ensure that your update does not overfill your hard disk.
    8. Only upgrade after repairing permissions before and after applying the update.
    9. If you do find issues please report them to http://bugreporter.apple.com/ or http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
    10. If you would like to find out how to troubleshoot after applying the update, wait a couple weeks for people to get their hands on it to see if they can reproduce your issues.
    11. Don't be too quick to blame it on the update, many issues with corrupted files, antiquated drivers, corrupted cache files, and logfiles can make issues surface immediately after applying the update.
And above all, don't panic, and start a new topic thread if you need troubleshooting:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219&start=0
All the people on this board are here to help you, and we don't want blame to be cast before a solution is attempted to be found, as then we can't know if you really want a solution to your problem.

And if people DO read it, it will be too late as they already upgraded and are only here to report issues, not look for solutions to issues BEFORE they happen.
Too many people think that all this high end editing stuff should "just work." You have to treat your system right....you have to have a little technical know-how. This isn't easy folks.
