Robocopy with Win 8.1 , guidance needed

In Win8.1Pro 64 bit used the command line:
Robocopy V: F: \ backup /MIR / R:0
The copied directories now take most of the space on an external Lacie HD F: . All the files and directories seem to be hidden though, neither
command line DOS evel nor Windows 8.1 sees anything on the Lacie.
The background , V: is the project file server of an architecture office and F: is a USB external
HD rotated weekly and stored elsewhere for backup. I used to do this with SyncToy on Win XP Pro from 2007 onward but just switched to Win 8.1 and noticed that SyncToy
is not supported . Found Robocopy after some googling .
Took me some trial end error to get the above command line running, had to figure out where to put empty spaces in the command line and where not to .
Would really appreciate if someone knowledgeable could help me write
a command line that mirrors the content of V: to F:\backup
without hiding it . Further , do I need a second
version of the command line to do subsequent runs in a way that only copies new and changed files
and folders to F: ? A full run takes in excess of seven hours.

Robocopy is self-documenting. Open a Command Prompt (cmd.exe) then type this command:
robocopy /? > robocopy.txt
You now need to play with the various switches to become familiar with this tool. It's not a scripting (=programming) problem.
Robocopy will sometimes hide the target folder(s). Open Windows Explorer, then change its settings so that hidden files become visible. Again this is not a scripting problem.

Oracle 11G Install on Win 7 With PL/SQL Developer Help Needed

Today is my first day with Oracle. I have tried to Install Ora11g from our network drive.I think the installation went fine. I also installated PL/SQL Developer when i try to log in i got the following error see below.

When i apply thse 2 paths i get the following error.

Pl indicate which version of Win 7 - you will need Professional or higher - Home versions are not supported/certified, so things may or may not work as expected.

Need some help with wine + midi

Howdi guys!
I need some help. I'd like to run an application which is only available for Windows and OSX, so my choice is wine. This application needs to send midi signals to the hardware it is supposed to control.
In the product's forum there is a thread which shows how it can be done. But the newest releases of wine don't allow this, because it doesn't support jack anymore.
I think basically it doesn't matter which application it is I run in wine, the question is, is it possible to send midi signals in and out through wine? If so, how? Might be that it's quite trivial, in my defense I have to say that I never worked with midi before.
The soundcard I use is an Edirol UA-25 which is fully supported in Linux, midi works.

edit: Forgot two things: I know I could try older versions of wine or running it in a virtual machine, but I want to avoid this.

For that app, you will probably be using the ALSA-midi interface. So, you shouldn't require Wine to have jack support. - In fact, that picture clearly shows that Wine is using ALSA-midi, but he is using jackd + a2jmidid (which exposes alsa-midi 2 jack-midi).
As long as that software doesn't require a special driver, you should be able to use it. As for the specifics, i would imagine that you would start jackd, start a2jmidid and then start your application. - you also have to make sure your midi device is connecting before launching your app in wine - otherwise the device won't show up in your wine app. You also will need to select your midi interface in your application. After this, you should be able to connect your wine app (through the a2jmidi bridge) to your hardware.
But if for whatever reason you can't get it too work ~ i do actually use a VM for updating firmware on 2 different audio devices (a soundcard and midi-controller) - and it works great. I am using VMware, but i would imagine virtualbox would work very similar..

Thats really strange because the NXT Module 2010 and the NXT Module 2011 are free and don't require serial numbers. Where did you obtain the installer? The core LabVIEW installer requires a serial number but if you already have that installed, the NXT Module is just a free addon. Here are the links to the module for LabVIEW 2010 & 2011

Why does Auto Tone button in Quick Develop panel fail with Win 7 platform?

I have been a user of Photoshop since the inception of Photoshop CS. I recently purchased a subscription to Photoshop CC, which comes with Photoshop Lightroom 5.
I have never used Lightroom, so I purchased the Kindle version of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, CLASSROOM IN A BOOK. I have this eBook installed on the same Windows 7 PC that I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 installed on.
I ran into a problem in a section of the first chapter titled “Using Quick Develop in the Library module.” This section, in part, instructs how to quickly improve the color tonal balance of an image.
After selecting the required image from the sample images for this lesson, I found the histogram in my Lightroom 5 Loupe view to be the same as the lesson’s photo illustration for this original image. As described in the lesson, the photo did not have a balanced tonal distribution.
I followed the lesson’s instruction: “4. In the Quick Develop panel, watch the tone distribution curve shift in the Histogram panel as you click the Auto Tone button. Although the automatic adjustment hasn’t done a perfect job with this particular photo, there is substantial improvement; a lot of image detail has been recovered from the overexposed hair and face and there is more depth in the mid-tones. The contrast, however, remains unimpressive, and the darker areas still look flat.” (See Adobe Creative Team [2013-08-06]. This is where I ran into a problem. After clicking on the Auto Tone Button in the Quick Develop panel, my results were completely different than what was described and shown in the Histogram displayed in the lesson. Instead, in my Lightroom 5, clicking the Lightroom Auto Tone button has increased the exposure, making it even more over exposed than the original image! Therefore continuing to follow the instructions in the lesson was a waste of time, since my Auto Tone results were so totally out of sync from that of the lesson.
This disturbed me, so I decided to open the same sample image in Photoshop CC, Camera RAW 8.2. Camera RAW provides an Auto Button which improves exposure and color tonal balance to an image. The results were exactly the same as the Auto Tone functionality in the Quick Develop panel in Lightroom 5. I couldn't understand why the lesson instructor's results were so positive and mine were so disastrous. Then it hit me! I discovered that the lesson writer of this Adobe Classroom in a Book was using Lightroom 5 on a MAC computer. I could tell by looking at his lesson images. Just to be sure, I tried this lesson scenario on a different PC with Win 7, Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. I got the same failed results.
I’ve heard from other professionals that Photoshop and Lightroom software only work properly on Apple computers. I’ve always thought that this was a myth, but have infrequently experienced a good result using the Auto button feature in Photoshop Camera Raw on a Windows PC platform, so I don’t use it often.
What really has me frustrated is the fact that Adobe no longer has a direct way to report software defects to their tech support or process improvement teams. Their online bug reporting process is woefully inadequate. I've tried twice to create a support ticket on the Adobe site, only to have my case withdrawn mysteriously. I've tried their online chat, telephone support, and sent emails with image attachments to the address provided by their agent on the telephone. My email goes unanswered and my open cases somehow get closed.
Any ideas on how to get this issue addressed by Adobe are sincerely appreciated.

Adobe tries to improve the Auto Tone function from time-to-time. I used to completely underexpose an image that had a few bright spots such as car headlights turned on in an otherwise properly exposed image. This is probably what you’re seeing, LR now guessing brighter more of the time, and it might change, again, in a future version so don’t be too concerned.
As others have said, Auto Tone works on some images and not on others, and Adobe can only try to make it work better on more images by changing how it works on all images. For the lesson example, the author purposely used an image that was improved with auto-tone that LR did at the time of authorship. You will never have a picture exactly like the lesson’s example, either, so it’s not that important if the lesson is 100% accurate for future versions of LR, just that the general idea that some pictures are improved in certain ways by Auto Tone will still be applicable, and you’ll need to learn, by trial and error, what to do when Auto Tone doesn’t work well or the image needs further adjustment. That is the important lesson, what to do with your own pictures.
You can reset a particular slider after a bad Auto Tone by double clicking on that slider. The Exposure slider is the one I reset most often.
You can also LR set the Auto Tone value for just one slider by holding down the Shift key and double clicking on that one slider. I do this a lot for the Blacks slider to set the black point, without messing up everything else.

Just bought a dell pc with windows 8. on my old pc (vista) i would right click a movie (in itunes format) and say open with itunes and it would play. Now it won't open in itunes and it just CRASHES. HELP PLEASE. is there a glitch with win 8???

Okay i bought a dell pc with windows 8 (big mistake) i downloaded itunes and from my external hard drive, right clicked a movie file (in ipad format, because this worked in vista on my old laptop) and it will not go into itunes. And itunes keeps crashing. Is there a glitch with win 8 and itunes ? I never had this prob with vista. I would right click a file and say open with itunes and poof it goes in the library. Please help before i throw this thing out the window! OH newest itunes is what i have installed.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit. Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off. For about $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics. As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation. I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

Ipod nano possible with win 2000???

my wife just got an ipod nano \(3rr gen) for her bday, and we have a computer with win 2000. now the only itunes we can find for win 2000 is ver. 7.3. when i downloaded this it tells me that i need ver. 7.4 or better. anyone got any info or tips for me... PLEASE

NO. That is NOT what the website says. When you go to the 732 for Windows 2000 d/l page, it clearly states you can use Win2k. Why have so many missed this??? Apple is clearly stating they support Win2k - including sync to ipod. I so got one. I d/l the iTunes 732 for Win2k and it works fine - to play music (using it right now). But once I connect my new nano, I get the error message "The iPod 'IPOD' cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 7.4 or later. Go to www.blah blah to d/l v7.4..." So.... what now??? I'm stumped. And never-mind the "win2k is old and nobody supports it..." stuff... Microsoft still offers SP4 for d/l.
Why would Apple put a utility in a backward compat. program that is not backward compatible?????
In addition (and this may be over my head), but why does the website show the file @ 47.7MB, put once on my hd it shows 37.9MB?? I've d/l the file twice to be sure but have the same result.

I have just bought a new H535s with Win 8.1 - Do you know if there is a recovery section already built into the system or do I have to back up the whole system myself (using a lot of space)

HP Pavilion x360 touchscreen stops working with Win 8.1 pro

I currently have a HP Pavilion x360 2in1 convertible laptop. The model # is 11-n010dx. My issue is the touchscreen was working just fine with Win 8 on it, however, I need to be able to connect to my work network and that requires Win 8.1 pro. I did the upgrade to Win 8.1 pro 64-bit and the touchscreen is not even recognized by the OS. It states "No pen or Touch input is available for this display." I have installed all of the drivers, nothing is missing from the device manager. I try to install SP57846 but get an error that states that my computer does not meet the minimum requirememnt for this update. I just need drivers to run my touchscreen in Win 8.1 pro 64-bit.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 11-n010dx x360 and the Touchscreen not working correctly after a Windows 8.1 update. Here is a link to a document on troubleshooting the Touchscreen.
Here is a fix I found from Microsoft.
The touchscreen shouldn’t need recalibration, but if you or another user has recalibrated it, it may affect the performance of the touchscreen.
Here’s how to check or restore the factory default calibration using a keyboard or mouse:
Press the Windows logo key Type Control Panel, then use the arrow keys to highlight Control Panel, and press Enter.
In Control Panel, use the arrow keys to highlight Hardware and Sound and press Enter.
Under Tablet PC Settings use the arrow keys to highlight Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input, and press Enter.
Use the Tab key to select the Reset button, and press Enter.
If the Reset button is grayed out, your Surface touch calibration is still at factory settings and nothing further required.
Use the Tab key to select Yes, press Enter, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

I have a laptop running Win 7 Pro, can I setup a dualboot with Win XP

My laptop is running Win 7 Pro (32-bit) but I have a Iomega Zip 100 drive which has not been supported since Win XP. I have numerous discs with content I would like to access and put onto CD. Can I set up a dualboot system with Win 7 and Win XP without
affecting my current data?

The first thing you need to do is verify that there are Windows XP chipset and device drivers for your laptop. If there are none then XP may not function properly, no mouse, keyboard, video, USB ports may no work and more.

How to install and migrate info to a new laptop with Win 8

I got a laptop a few days ago with Win 8.... I am totally lost. I installed FF and it shows on my desktop :)
Now I need to transfer all my data there. I created a new profile in the desktop (Win 7) in case... Then what???
I don't know where to find the info I am familiar with. I use FF 22.
Can you please help me (again!)?
I will have to do the same from an old laptop (Win XP) to the new one.

Hi JenL27, the Profile Manager lets you see ALL your currently existing Firefox profiles and choose the one you want to use.
Start the profile manager again, select your original profile, and start Firefox using that one. It will be a lot easier to work with your data that way.
IMPORTANT: Do not delete any profiles without making good backups.

Is Acrobat Standard 7.0.9 compatible with Win 7?

I have Acrobat Standard Read/Write for Windows and also all of the patches since its release, including 7.0.9. I have been running the software from my XP machine, but recently switched to Windows 7. I installed Acrobat 7.0 without thinking that it might cause a problem with Win 7 till after the install. If it has caused a problem it isn't obvious. It seems to work alright If this verion of Acrobat works in Win 7 I would very much like to continue using it. Should I install the updates and is there a reasonable chance it will work under Win 7?
Wether it works or not, will what I have already done effet Windows 7 negatively?

Acrotray is a feature I've never used so perhaps this will not be a problem.
In the preliminary testing I've done, eerything seems to work the way I normally use Acrobat.
Question:
Is it likely that the install of Acrobat 7 will effect Windows 7 negatively? As of now I can do a" restore point", if need be, to take my system back to how it was prior to the install. But I would guess that it is not possible for the install to effect Win 7 too negatively. I am being perhaps overly caucious, but I would like to have things, with the install of this new OS, as clean as possible.

Foxit reader with wine: full search don't react to mouse

Hello,
I want use full search feature in Foxit reader with wine.(to search for text in pdf's in specific directory). It does find text occurrences, *but* full search tab does not responds to mouse, and i can't select results. (actually, i need to tab through all bullets to start the search, because they don't react to mouse at all)
Does anybody tried it? Is there any solution?
I tried all Foxit versions, and they all behaves the same.
I used wine-1.1.44, but it was the same with all wine versions, for ~1 year.

I had this feeling that there will be those questions...
To sum-up, no native Linux pdf reader has abilities, that i need.
I need to work a lot with pdf's, i need searching in directories, i need to annotate.
Foxit through wine is the closest solution to my needs, but there is this problem...
So please, don't ask any questions why i don't use this and that, i tried everything.
PDF-XChange works nicely with wine, and does everything, but it uses way too much recourses.
Okular is quite good, but when you annotate something, it gets so ssslow, and it stores markups not in pdf, so other pdf readers don't see annotations.
Back to question. Does anybody knows, why Foxits Full search sidebar, don't react to mouse? Maybe you had similar problems with other software?

Lennovo T60 with Win 8.1 Pro: Bluetooth not working

After reviewing
a similar thread, it looks like the best course of action may be to revert back to Windows 8 and then try the Windows 8.1 update again.
In order to go back to Windows 8, you’re going to need to reinstall it using your recovery partition or installation media that came with your computer.
If you didn’t receive any installation media with your computer, you’ll need to access the recovery partition on your hard drive.
Some manufacturers provide a way of doing so by pressing one or more keys during startup.
You’ll need to look at your computer’s documentation to see if that information is provided.
Otherwise, in order to do this, you’ll need your USB recovery drive.
If you don’t already have one and you have access to another Windows 8.1 computer, you can
create a USB recovery drive from it. If none of these options are available, you’ll need to contact your computer’s manufacturer.
Once you have your recovery drive, you can insert it into your computer and boot from it.
Follow the on screen directions and you’ll be able to restore your computer to its original configuration.
