RoboKnights: IS there a foolproof format for Help hosted in a website?

Once open a time, I generated WebHelp, uploaded it to our company site, dubbed it a noble Knowledgebase, and there it sat, accessible to all. It was the Best Beloved of people desirous of viewing Help via Google Translate.
And so, the years passed, and the poor WebHelp Knowledgebase was forgotten and fell into disuse. Even the Fairy DocMomma (that would be me) ignored it.
It was rediscovered by an intrepid explorer. And it was decreed that the Fairy DocMamma would wave her magic wand and update Knowledgebase in renewed glory....
THUNK!!! You hear that?!!! That is the sound of the Fairy DocMomma's headdesk: THUNK THUNNK!!!
So, RoboKnights--what do you recommend?
What is the best, most foolproof method and format for putting Help on the Web?
What dragons might rear up and bite the DocMomma in areas not mentioned in publick support forums...?
Using RoboHelp 10, updated + patched.
I actually generated an AIR output, and had it uploaded...just AIR, not the AIR for browser...and it seems to be OK. I did not yet try to generate it with the inter-related projects that I traditionally include with my .chm for the desktop application. I should note that this is a big project. about 500 topics in the main project, at least that many in the sub-projects, lots of graphics.

On my site I make the point that Adobe have not updated AIR (installed or browser based) for several versions of RoboHelp. It's a format that didn't really take off so I wouldn't recommend that anyone starts to use it now.
Webhelp is really the only format for server based help. That later your version of Rh, the better the browser support but Rh10 should be OK.

  • Hi there. I hoping for help.   I am struggling with both...

hi there. I hoping for help.
I am struggling with both my WRT54G router set-up and i can't seem to use your online chat system. I hope that you can help.
I have just moved from Hong Kong to New Zealand and I'm trying to install my WRT54G, bought in Hong Kong, to connect to a Telstra braodband internet connection, but when I follow the instruction CD-ROM I get to the point (number 6 - although this point is numbered 7 in the instructions?!?) when I have connected the router it then says it is checking my settings and then it asks me to put in a password. It then checks my system again and then asks me for the password again, and this repeatedly. I can't get past this point. Because this was happening I pushed the reset button on the back of the router, but it still asks me for a password (I have tried using admin as the password without success) and then goes through the check and asks me for the password again. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.
    Michael Anthony

What windows OS are you running? It may have not installed correctly.
First go to control panel in start menu, then add/remove programs. it should be in there.
If you do not see it there then go to programs files and see if it is there. if so you can delete the folder it is in, then run disk clean up.
By manually setting up did this work? would like to know the end results.

  • When I make iMovies and copy to disc, they record fine for my computer but I can't get them to play on my DVD for televison.  Is there a standard format for most DVD's and if so what is it.

When I make iMovies and copy to DVD, they record fine for playing back on my computer but will not play on my DVD for television.  Is there a certain format for DVD player and if so can you tell me what it is?

    You need this:   http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html#custom

There were no results for Help using best converion codec for .mts 17Mbps video. I want to use h264.mov, but i get much better quality on my tv using mpeg-2. Am i doing something wrong during the conversion to h264? this is driving me nuts. I thought h264 was the best quality codec to use for any hgiven bitrate, but I'm getting a poorer result. can anyone please help?

Here are my current settings. I really hope they work.. I'll post results later.

  • Format for help which will actually help

There is absolutely no room for sarcasm or ignorant answers as this doesn't help anyone. Even grammatically correct sentences are wasteful.
Basically through troubleshooting my own problem I've devised a format that would have helped me had adobe or even another user simply followed this format instead of pages of impossible to navigate "problems" and "solutions" that never truly apply to what I'm experiencing. We've all been there.
Please restrain from wasting digital ink by responding to this out of ignorance assuming I haven't done some incredibly simple step.... don't insult my intelligence, its rude and destroys any faith in this company or its community of users. By the time you make it to the forums its a guarantee you have already restarted your computer, uninstalled/re-installed, repaired permissions, and lord help you, checked for an update........ the last one, the absolute last thing anyone wants to hear.
Specifically I have been dealing with error 1301: unable to update adobe reader because the file has been modified since last update.
I could say a bit of comedic lines on this, since there isn't enough hours in the day for me to even think about rooting around adobe reader files, aint nobody got time for that.... but I won't because I want people to be helped by this article.
    Begin improved format:
    problem:
error 1301 when updating acrobat reader, files modified since last update
    versions:
Mac OS X 10.7.5 operating system
(also adobe reader version when problem began, did not have access to this information at the time of this writing, probably around version 4.3 though )
precedent:      (in order so it is possible to follow the persons trouble shooting path)
    1. restarted computer
    2. uninstalled and re-installed adobe reader ---------upon next update same error appeared----------
    3. followed these steps for root login  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528 per the instructions from the link (details) that was displayed in the error window http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-update-errors-acrobat-reader.html
    Question(s):
1.with the root enabled do I just install adobe reader in the root account, and if so will that mean adobe reader will be available in my account? (they are different logins even though my account is the administrator)
    2. will I have to leave the root enabled? (it is recommended to disable the root if you do not use it often per the above linked instructions)
    3. Are my security settings interfering with adobe's attempts to update? ( I have a firewall, my hard drive is encrypted and my system settings all require administrator password when doing anything)
end of a well formulated post
What I hope is accomplished by this post:
    1. that this problem will be addressed (for real) in future updates.... since the world relies on this software it has to work and work every time without wasting client time, that is adobe's burden and one they rather like since they get a lot of money off of it.
    2. that this community will start posting questions in ways that problem trends can be easily recognized, and easily navigated by reducing the amount of complaining posts where everyone voices how they all have the same problem, but no one has an answer worth reading.
No one has time to scroll through long pages of sarcastic complaints.

    example response:
I'm also curious if there is any interference with updates when you have adobe reader and acrobat pro installed

  • Is there is common format for an external harddrive for Mac and a PC?

I'm planning to have some 8mm film digitized, and would like the result to go on an external drive that could be used on both a PC and a Mac.
I think that FAT 32 would work, but that it has a file size limitation that might be a problem with video files.
    My questions are:
First, is there a way of formatting an external hard drive which that it would work both both a Mac and a PC for transferring/working with video files?
And two, what codex should the film to video be saved in, to work with iMovie?
And three, does it matter now is the hard drive is USB, or must it be FW?
    Thanks,
    Hal

First, is there a way of formatting an external hard drive which that it would work both both a Mac and a PC for transferring/working with video files?
FAT32, unless the drive needs to contain files which are 4GB or larger, in which case, no.
And two, what codex should the film to video be saved in, to work with iMovie?
    DV.
And three, does it matter now is the hard drive is USB, or must it be FW?
    It doesn't matter.

  • Best format for help file

I am creating only my second modest help file ever. We will
be distributing via CD as a demo of our product utilizing
programming to launch the help file upon insertion of cd. What is
the best format (I have it in WehHelp now)? Also any
demo's/guidelines/topics that might be useful in formatting
different topics to add interest and force the user thru the
screens in a specific order. Maybe the whole thing can initially be
"self-running"? I follow instructions well but have limited
    knowledge at this stage.

    Hello patdod -
    Need more info.
Is this for Linux, Mac, Windows, Unix, or cross-platform?
Does this go to government customers / government suppliers?
If so, your customer(s) may not be permitted to use some file
formats (such as Flash / Shockwave, video or audio files, etc.).
    Regards,

  • Looking for help to increase performance on a DB XML database.

I'll try to answer all the questions in the Performance Questionnaire from here.
    1) I'm primarily concerned with insertion performance. The best I've seen so far is about 6000 inserts/per second. This is running inside a VMWare VM with 3 GB of RAM. The VM is set up with 2 CPUs each with 2 cores. The host machine has 8GB of RAM with a dual core 2.67 GHZ i7 (2 logical cores per CPU). The best performance I've seen is by running 2 threads of execution. A single thread only gets me about 2500 inserts per/second.
This is all within a very simple, isolate program. I'm trying to determine how to re-architect a more complicated system, but if I can't hope to hit 10k inserts per second with my sample, I don't see how it's possible to expand this out to something more complicated.
    2) Versions: BDBXML version 2.5.26 no special patches or config options
    3) BDB version 4.8.26, no special patches
    4) 2.67 dual core, hyperthreaded intel i7 (4 logical processors)
    5) Host: Windows 7 64-bit, Guest: RHEL5 64-bit
    6) Underlying disk is a 320GB WesternDigital barricuda (SATA). It's a laptop harddrive, I believe it's only 5400 RPM. Although the VM does not have exclusive access to the drive, it is not the same drive as the Host sytem drive. (i.e. Windows runs off of the C drive, this is the D drive). The has a 60GB slice of this drive.
    7) Drive is NTFS formatted for the host. Guest, ext3
    8) Host 8gb, guest 3gb (total usage when running tests low, i.e. no swapping by guest or host)
    9) not currently using any replication
    10) Not using remote filesystem
    11) db_cv_mutex=POSIX/pthreads/library/x86_64/gcc-assembly
    12) Using the C++ API for DBXML, and the C API for BDB
    using gcc/g++ version 4.1.2
    13) not using app server or web server
    14) flags to 'DB_ENV->open()': | DB_SYSTEM_MEM
              | DB_INIT_MPOOL
              | DB_INIT_LOCK
              | DB_INIT_LOG
              | DB_INIT_TXN
              | DB_RECOVER
              | DB_THREAD
    other env flags explicitly set:
    DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY 1
    DB_LOG_ZERO 1
    set_cachesize(env, 1, 0, 1) // 1GB cache in single block
    DB_TXN_NOSYNC 1
    DB_TXN_WRITE_NOSYNC 1
I am not using a DB_CONFIG file at this time.
    15) For the container config:
    transactional true
    transactionsNotDurable true
    containertype wholedoc
    indexNodes Off
    pagesize 4096
    16) In my little test program, I have a single container.
16.1) flags are the same as listed above.
16.2) I've tried with an empty container, and one with documents already inside and haven't noticed much difference at this point. I'm running 1, 2, 3, or 4 threads, each inserting 10k documents in a loop. Each insert is a single transaction.
16.3) Wholedoc (tried both node & wholedoc, I believe wholedoc was slightly faster).
16.4) The best performance I've seen is with a smaller document that is about 500 bytes.
16.5) I'm not currently using any document data.
    17)sample document:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='no'?>
    <Record xmlns='http://someurl.com/test' JID='UUID-f9032e9c-7e9a-4f2c-b40e-621b0e66c47f'>
    <DataType>journal</DataType>
    <RecordID>f9032e9c-7e9a-4f2c-b40e-621b0e66c47f</RecordID>
    <Hostname>test.foo.com</Hostname>
    <HostUUID>34c90268-57ba-4d4c-a602-bdb30251ec77</HostUUID>
    <Timestamp>2011-11-10T04:09:55-05:00</Timestamp>
    <ProcessID>0</ProcessID>
    <User name='root'>0</User>
    <SecurityLabel>unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023</SecurityLabel>
    </Record>
    18. As mentioned, I'm looked to get at least 10k documents per second for insertion. Updates are much more infrequent, and can run slower. I am not doing any partial updates, or replacing documents. In the actual system, there are minor updates that happen to document metadata, but again, these can be slower.
    19. I'm primarily concerned with insertion rate, not query.
    20. Xquery samples are not applicable at the moment.
    21. I am using transactions, no special flags aside from setting them all to 'not durable'
    22. Log files are currently stored on the same disk as the database.
    23. I'm not using AUTO_COMMIT
    24. I don't believe there are any non-transactional operations
    25. best performance from 2 threads doing insertions
    26. The primary way I've been testing performance is by using the 'clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME)' calls inside my test program. The test program spawns 1 or more threads, each thread inserts 10k documents. The main thread waits for all the threads to complete, then exits. I'm happy to send the source code for this program if that would be helpful.
    27. As mentioned, I'm hoping to get at least 10k inserts per second.

  • Poland Withholding Tax Format for Platnik

Is there a standard format for sending Poland contractor deductions for income tax and social security to Platnik?  We are deducting using withholding taxes from the vendor payment to the contractor and not from the payroll system.

    Hey Sandrine,
You can fill in the SIRET in customizing
Financial Accounting -> Financial Accounting Global Settings -> Company Code -> Enter Global Parameters
Than choose 'Additional data' buttom, and fill in the field 'Commercial register no. SIRET'.
You can fill in 14 digits.
    The first 9 digits = SIRET-number
    The last 5 digits = NIC-number
In a previous SAP-version, yoy could also fill in the APE in the additional data screen, but that field no longer appears in that customizing screen (you can adapt it using se16 -> table T001Z - party WT_EDI)
Ik hope this can help you.

  • Best external hard drive format for use with mac and windows?

This is more of an apple operating system combined with windows operating system question, but being that my OS will upgrade an fluctuate there is not option to choose in the operating system section.
    Anyways to the question(s)
This whole prbolem came about when my computer started having issues, I want to back it up and whether I can continue to use my laptop or not I will still be owning an apple in the future. I went to buy a hard for back up and got told that it is not as easy as one would think to transfer files from mac OS to windows OS and vice versa. I have a mac, my boyfriend has a windows computer; we share files. Mostly I just copy his files, but once in a while I give him files too. I have read up and talked to people and only found one solution so far to format the external drive to fat 32 or exfat. I think only mac has the exfat option, but works well between both OSs, correct me if I am wrong.
What is the difference between fat 32 and exfat?
A user posted some good info about formatting. More specifically .Drives, partitions, formatting w/Mac's + PC's
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3044
If I do not want to use fat32 or exfat is there a format type that works great for mac saving that I can still at least save files to that were originally on a windows computer? Such as I copy his files from his external drive to my computer and then save them to my external drive.
Is there a better format for file sharing between mac and windows that does not set a 4GB limit?
And a silly question, Can you dual format a hard drive?
Note: This format is for an external hard drive.

I still do not know which format would be the best. That is so that I can use it easily between mac OSX and windows. Is FAT32 the only true option? How limited is it? I heard it is limited to 4GB file size for windows and 32 GB for Mac. Are there other sources I have not found with more concrete information on the limitations of this format?
I really do still need this information and I need to back up my drive before I can take the computer in for service.

  • Best clip format for iMovie 8?

I have a few .avi clips from a Nikon CoolPix which load alright into iMovie, but they take a long time to load. Is there a better format for iMovie and should I convert the clips to that format?
    Thank you,
    ray

iM is meant by concept for camcorder imports.
    its internal codec is appeleintermediate.
I doubt, a 'manual' conversion is faster than iM's.
but give it a try, a popular (and free) tool is Mpeg Streamclip
