Rockwell Point I/O with labview? (Ethernet IP)

Hi,
Would it be possible to read out a Rockwell point I/O module? It is normally connected to a Compact IO PLC.
We want to make a PC based test/control. It has some simmple digital outs and analog inputs, nothing special.
I've been looking at the Ethernet IP module from NI, but I don't know if its suited for this.
Felix

hi Felix,
In case you Rockwell I/O device can be a master, this library should allow you to communicate with it from Labview. It alows a LabVIEW target to be a "slave" on any EtherNet/IP system:

  • Access Point not connecting with 1G ethernet

    HI everyone.
I just noticed this. I have different series of AP , 1142 , 1252 , 3500 , 3700. it is happening on any series. if I set the duplex and speed to Auto some of my AP are connecting with 100mb not 1Gps.
if I set duplex to full and speed to 1000 then the AP shows not connected on the switch and the AP it self is blinking like a Christmas tree!
I have different series I switches as well and it happening on all of them. they are Gig

    the switch ios is 03.03.00.SE
i have other APs (same series) running on 1G on the same switch
    here is the proof :)
can it be the cable quality dropping from 1000 to 100? I'm going to un-mount the AP  from the wall and connect it directly to the switch to see what will happen

  • Fast low level Ethernet communication with LabVIEW

Hello, I want to read Ethernet packets with LabVIEW (an private protocol, not UDP or TCP or others). The hardware writes 40 000 packets per second. I want to use winPcap API to capture data. I’ve seen the example «packet_sniffer_project » (and others). It’s an great job. But the soft reads only 1 packet at each time (wrapper dll calls « pcap_next_ex » function) and I lose packets. With my computer, I read 25 000 packets per second. How can I read more than one packet at each time? (or all the Ethernet buffer) Thank You

  • Is the Intel I340-T4 Ethernet card compatible with LabView 8.6?

We are currently looking in to having our LabView program process the output of two Allied Vision cameras, run through a PCI GigE card.
On our old machine (32-bit Vista), we have a PRO/1000 PT Quad working just fine with the LabView interface - and we want to upgrade to a better PC with 64-bit Win 7.
We are under the impression that PRO/1000 PT is not compatible with Win 7, and were looking into either I340 quad-port adapters:
    http://ark.intel.com/products/49186/Intel-Ethernet-Server-Adapter-I340-T4
Does anyone have any insight as to the compatibilities of the Intel 82580 controllers with LabView 8.6?

    Hi Civa,
Scott here from AVT technical support.   You are correct re. that PT card not being Win7 compatible.  Here's a link to our current recommendations for NICs and switches.
    http://www.alliedvisiontec.com/fileadmin/content/PDF/Support/Application_Notes/Hardware_Selection_fo...
If it's NOT in that list, it doesn't mean it won't work, merely that we haven't tested it and do not know.  We do not attempt to test every 3rd party product on the market.
And our testing is typical with AVT SDKs not with Labview, though there are thousands of joint AVT / NI customers, and we'd have heard by now if there were any conflicts, I am confident.

    Scott

  • Can i communicate with labview, using ethernet or seriel modbus.

Is it possible to communicate with a i/o module and labview. I can communicate with ethernet, canbus(cscan, devicenet), rs232(modbus).
    What is the easiest solusion.
Is it necessary to buy PC-cards for the communication or have only to download some drivers.
    Thx

    Hello,
To communicate with a CAN/DeviceNET bus you will need an interface card in your PC. NI has such cards along with LabVIEW VIs:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=1329〈=US
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=1311〈=US
To communicate with Modbus, you will NOT need any special cards but you do need software drivers for it (you'll obviously need an Ethernet card for TCP/IP and Serial port for RS232). There are several options for these drivers, however:
    1. Write your own driver VIs. You'll basically implement the Modbus protocol in LabVIEW. Modbus is a simple and open protocol.
    2. Try to search the Net for such existing VIs. I believe someone has already written such Modbus VIs.
    3. Use the Industrial Automatio
n OPC Servers suite from NI:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=4584〈=US
    4. Use any third-party OPC Server for Modbus.
NOTE: in case you opt 3 or 4 above: though you may use DataSocket in LabVIEW as an OPC Client, you may want to consider LabVIEW-DSC which has a built-in OPC Client, and hence better support for OPC.
Hope this gives you some options.

    Khalid

  • Looking for an Access Point with 2 Ethernet ports and powered via PoE

    Hi Gurus,
I am looking for an Access Point with 2 Ethernet ports and the access point can be powered via PoE. I have been assigned with a requirement where the rooms need to have access point as well as an Ethernet Cable provided from the Access Point as a backup for connectivity.
The room only has one data cable coming from the main IT room as well does not have a spare power socket to power the Access Point. Will be good if it can be centrally controlled or controller based.
    Any recommendations?
    Regards
    J

For the backup plan, the cheapest solution may be to just run a couple new cat5e drops to the room(est cost $250). If not then purchase a small Cisco POE switch for the room(est cost $2k). For wireless I would purchase a POE enabled Cisco AP. But you will need to verify the POE switch/blade you will be connecting the AP to can power the AP you buy. I got burned by that issue when we purchased some Cisco 1251 AP's with dual radios and they needed more power than our 4500 POE blades could handle. We were told we would need to purchase new 48 port 10/100/1000 blades or power injectors. Our Cisco sales vendor took the heat for that mistake.

  • B&R Powerlink Ethernet module support with LabVIEW

    Hello Guys,
I wanted to use the B&R Powerlink Ethernet module for one of my industrial applications where in I am planning to use cRIO system for the control but my drives ACOPOS 1022 servo Drive requires this module B&R Powerlink Ethernet module. The link is
    http://www.br-automation.com/cps/rde/xchg/br-productcatalogue/hs.xsl/cookies_allowed.htm?caller=prod...
So i wanted to check the compatibility of LabVIEW with this particular module and if there is any option for me to program or atleast communicate with this module directly via LabVIEW? This will help me finalize my system and go ahead and start building.
Looking forward for some responses from everyone who has worked with similar setup.
Thank you so much in advance.
    Regards,
    Priyank Desai.

    Hi,
unfortunatelly servodrives from B&R have no open programming interface, so you can not programm them from LabView. For operating B&R servodrive, B&R CPU is a must. This is because operating system of servodrive and all necessary parameters are stored at B&R CPU to guarantee trouble free run always. B&R serfvodrive ACOPOS is not for "component business".
You can listen and command them, when there is a B&R master CPU and servodrive is configured for that.
Following B&R product are Powerling standalone with no need for CPU:
    ACOPOSinverter P74/P84
    X20 IO system
    X67 IO system
B&R CPU is required for ACOPOSmicro, ACOPOS, ACOPOSmulti ACOPOSm65 servodrive systems.
I suggest to contact local supoort of B&R at your country and they will help you how to connect this drive with LabView.

  • Looking for an Access Point with 2 Ethernet ports

    Hi,
I am looking for an AP with two ethernet ports. Is there any model of Cisco is available with 2 ethernet ports?
    Regards,
    Noman

    pros:
If an access swich/switch port failed then AP still forward traffic through other switch once power restored through other port.
when PoE failed on its connected switch, it may still work via other port.
Having two ethernet port on AP may require to talk to different switches/stack to achieve AP port redundancy through lag or stateful switch over when cable/switch/AP port failure.
if one physical port become bad on AP, it can be still used with other.
(However, AP/physical port failure can be takencare at RF level using self healing.)
    cons:
require additional switch and its config maintanece
currently, AP doesn't require 2 physical port for data transfer perspective.
    Require x2 PoE ports.
Additional port increases the cost on AP.
it is possible cisco may make it in future.

My knowledge about networking is not that good so I don't know what is the network bandwidth of wireless router we'll use. Can you please tell me what is bandwidth of typical Wireless Routers? Will a typical Wireless router be able to handle a single video input from video converter and data input from cRIO 9012?
That's entirely dependent on the wireless protocol that's used (a, b, g, n), the distance on the devices from the router, and any interfering items (like walls, big metal slabs, that sort of thing). You really need to read the specifications on the wireless router that you have.
So basically what you mean by saying "everything is on one flat network" is that we don't need to worry about seperating data coming from video converter and cRIO. LabVIEW will handle it all by itself?
Not directly. You have to open connections to devices (or accept connection requests from devices), and then you send/receive data over that connection. Please take a look at the TCP/IP examples that ship with LabVIEW.

  • How can I create a scene and move 3D models in INSIGHT with Labview?

    Hi!
I need some help in doing a LabView application. What i have to do is controlling a 3D model represented in Insight with Labview. Something similar like the six-axis-robot example. I follow the insight configuration wizard, but nothing moves. Comparing the ".cis" files in my program and the one from the six-axis-robot, i found that in the six-axis-robot file contains something called localsystem and the one made by me, doesn't. Can be this the problem? How can I make it work? I would need some kind of step-by-step response, because i'am a beginner with Insight and 3D models. Thanks in advance!
    Regards!
    Juan

    Thanks for the advice!
I'm actually finding the next problem. Although in my VRML file the objects are defined separately in a jerarchy tree, I can't move(rotate, translate) each object individually. I have noticed that when i define a new local system and asign it the points of the object i want move in the way you explain (right click, and then dragging the points to the new local axis), the movement of this object is dependent of the other local systems i have defined for other objects , specially if the slave  nodes of the .cis file has a lower numeration than the object i want to move. The fact is, the movements assigned , for example to the nodes 1 to 100, will affect to the rest of the nodes if i also define for the rest of the nodes other movements. How can i solve this? I send you my .cis file, just in case my explanation is not enough clear. In this file you can see that movements assigned to nodes 1 to 4078, will also affect to nodes 4079 to 7168, and what i would like to do is define a movement for each obeject independently.
    Thanks again!

  • How do you use Synergy 7.1 with LabVIEW?

My company has reciently installed and configured IBM Rational Synergy 7.1 to be used as our Source Code Control tool.  I have installed the appropriate Microsoft Source Code Control Interface so that Synergy will show up in LabVIEW and it does show up in the "Source Control" options window.
However when I select Synergy as my source control tool it does the following:
    1.  Brings up the login window - I am able to login with no problem
    2.  Brings up a dialog allowing me to select the project to work on, and after I select the project I get two errors...
one from Synergy: "The workspace/project you want to add to IBM Rational Synergy is not under the work area path 'C:\xxx"
(where xxx is my work area for the Synergy project I selected)
then one from LabVIEW:  "Error -2941 occured at prefPage_Source Control.vi     An error occured trying to get the source control project path.    Possible reasons:  LabVIEW:  The source control provider does not support the specified operation."
I first tried this on an earlier version of Synergy that matched what is being used in:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/16D37CCC8659123F8625720500087DB4
But I was getting pretty much the same errors back then too.  It seems like it should work in LabVIEW, I just have no idea what I am doing wrong!
Anyone out there successfully using LabVIEW with Synergy????
    Thanks,
    Trevor.

In theory if a source control provider supports the Microsoft SCC interface, it *should* work with LabVIEW. In practice, each provider has custom implementation that sometimes causes problems when trying to configure the provider from LabVIEW. One sticking point for many providers is the expectation or assumption that an IDE will use some concept of a "project" and therefore pass data associated with that project to the provider. LabVIEW does not enforce that concept but does pass valid information.
Synergy was tested back when it was a Telelogic product. It was difficult to configure and required exact steps to get it to work correctly. The linked knowledge base were steps taken that worked for a few customer setups. It's possible that on other Synergy setups the exact steps may not work. Also, you might check to make sure you try to configure existing Synergy projects  and not try to create new ones from LabVIEW.
The error you mentioned seems to imply that some data is not supported by Synergy. I am not sure if Synergy would be able to track down the issue, but I would recommend contacting them to see if they can pinpoint what data LabVIEW is sending is not valid.

You are not using the correct mechanism. Pull up the Example Finder in LabVIEW, click on the "Search" tab, and enter "Excel". Look for an example called "Write Table to XL". Use this as a starting point for creating new workbooks and adding data to it.
Note: on disk the example is at <LabVIEW install directory>\examples\comm\ExcelExamples.llb.
