Rolling acces logs in WLS 4.5.1
I was told 4.5.1 sp9 or 4.5.2 will support rolling the web server access
logs after they reach a certain size similar to the weblogic.log file does
anyone know how this is set up?
Unfortunately, it does not appear that has been documented yet.
I will check on it.
Thanks,
Michael

Rolling Access Logs on 4.5.1
Has anyone figured out how to roll the access logs on WLS 4.5.1 sp8 (Solaris
2.6) without restarting the server?
Aside from writing a C program to do it?
Thanks! This is in 4.5.2 coming out soon and more than likely you can get
something for 4.5.1 sp 9 (coming soon if not out already), but you need
to go through support to get this.

Guillermo De La RosaI'm having the same error message. I also noticed that the server is running a bit slower and that beasvc.exe is using more memory that usual.Has anyone logged a technical support case??
Thanks.

Rman - rolling foward with archive logs during recovery
Database: 9.2.0.6; OS Windows 2003, Rman Backups performed through OEM 10g.
I have been a long time "write your own scripts" for backups but now I'm learning rman. Purchased the Oracle Database 10g RMAN Backup and Recovery book, but it doesn't have all the answers.
I have previously recovered a database using my "scripts" and rolled the database forward using archive files, but how is this done with rman? Rman seems to rely on the control file and backup pieces, where the scripts allowed me to just specify "recover database until cancel".
I have successfully recovered a database. It stopped once it could no longer find the next scn number. I then thought I could copy over the archive logs I have and try it again, try to roll forward, however, during the recover process there were two archive files created which were the next sequence, so I have dupes.
How do I perform a recover, and apply any archives which were not part of the rman backup?
The following is what I performed. I copied all my rman backup pieces to a new server. I created a clone of the directory structure,
oradim -new -sid <dbname>
orapwd file=<file_name> password=tiger
set oracle_sid=<dbname>
rman target /
startup force nomount
restore spfile from <file_name>
shutdown immediate
startup nomount
restore controlfile from <file_name>
restore database
-- NOTE: It ran and then stopped when it could no longer file the next log sequence
alter database reset logs;
The database opened and I can access it, but I really need to roll the logs forward.
thanks in advance. If these are archive logs that RMAN doesn't know about, you'll need to CATALOG these archivelogs before RMAN can use them.

Rolling logs by date instead of size
Hi
Does anyone have an example/solution to share regarding rolling logs by date instead of by size using java.util.logging?
Thanks in advance
-DaveThanks for your reply - a follow-up question is: What is the best way to roll the log over to a different directory (at the specified time by date)? I am attempting to extend the FileHandler class but am not making much progress. Do you have a method I could use as an example?
Thanks in advance -

How do i resolve the error ?
Thanks in advance. The SRDemo might be a left over from a previous try to test something.
Two actions you can try:
1) log in to the admin console (127.0.0.1:<port>/console) and check the deployments. If you see SRDemo in the deployment section remove it. The login will work even if you see the error as the server is in running mode.
2) if 1) doesn't fix the problem, you can close jdev and remove the DefaultDomain folder from the file system. It's located at D:\jdeveloper\jdeveloper\jdev\system11.1.2.1.38.60.81\ in your case. This will remove the whole integrated server. Next time you start JDev open the Application Server Navigator, select the Integrated Weblogic Server, right click on it and select configure DefaultDomain. This will create a fresh new integrated new server. All changes or configurations you did to the old one are gone!

WLS 9.2: MigrationException: Could not start JTAMT on local server
I have configured a two machine WLS 9.2 Cluster with two Managed Servers.
When I try to start the Managed Server through the Node Manager from Admin
Server's WLS Console, it fails with the following error (
actually both Managed Servers fail with the same error):
weblogic.cluster.migration.MigrationException: Could not start JTAMT on
local server because it could not be deactivated on the current host.

This message resides in file:

The WLS installation was done including the Node Manager Service.
Is this error message familiar at all and what could be done to fix it?
These Managed Servers run on Win2000 and Win2003 respectively. Should I do
something to the OS (Enable XA Txs in Control Panel/MSDTC)?Did you start AdminServer before try to start MANAGED-SERVER1?
Did you ever migrate Transaction Recovery Service of MANAGED-SERVER1 to other servers?
If the problem still exist, you can enable the debug option "DebugJTAMigration" and post the stack trace. -
Need help configuring Attribute Change in WLS 6.1
Hi there,
I did all it said in the documentation, lacking any sight of an SNMP
trap. I want to receive a SNMP trap if the
InvalidLoginAttemptsTotalCount changes (MBean: ServerSecurityRuntime).
I use
Attribute MBean Type: ServerSecurityRuntime
Attribute MBean Name:
petstore:Location=petstoreServer,Name=petstoreServer,Type=ServerSecurityRuntime
Attribute Name: InvalidLoginAttemptsTotalCount
I enabled SNMP, configure my TrapHost and started my trapdaemon. But I
don't get any trap even though I increased the counter by doing some
logins with the wrong password. Parallel to my attribute change I also
configured a counter monitor on the same attribute, with the same
disappointing result =:-(
Can anyone help ?
Greetings,
AlexYou need to set a target for the pool. Without target
pool service won't start. Also you need to provide
initial and maximum size for the pool.

Hi Slava, thanks for the reply. Here is the connection pool definition asextracted

mentioned below?

Hi,
I need to create a connection pool in WLS 7. Here are the specificsof my
environment:
1. RDBMS: Oracle 8i
2. Driver I want to use: Oracle thin 8.17 (provided with WLS 7)
3. IP address of machine on which database resides: 192.168.0.5
4. Port number: 1521
5. Name of database: MyDB
6. user: scott
7. password: tiger
Given the above,I do not know exactly what to fill out in the
following
fields
that appear in the Admin Console's connection pool creation form:
1. Name of connection pool (OK, this one I know!)
2. URL string (exactly what should it be, given above info?)
3. Driver Classname (I want to use Oracle thin 8.17, so what shouldI fill
here?)
4. Properties (exactly what should I fill here, given above info?)
5. ACL Name (completely stumped here! Documentation says ACLs havebeen
replaced
by policies in WLS 7 - so what to fill here?)
Could someone please help me correctly fill out these fields usingthe
information
I provided in the first paragraph.
BTW, I'm logged into WLS as Administrator.
Much obliged,
Nadeem -
WLS 10.3 Does not respond to GET requests (HTTP/1.0)
Hi All,
I have 2 WLS servers running on separate physical hosts behind a cisco CSS load balancer. The keep-alive method the Cisco CSS uses is HTTP GET messages. This keep-alive method does not appear to work, because my WLS servers are not responding to the GET requests with HTTP 200 OKs (as would be expected). These GET messaged appear in the access logs, as follows, but from traces taken on the host, there are no HTTP 200 messages ever transmitted. I see no exceptions or errors related to this in the server or access logs.
WLS access log:
192.168.1.1 - - [14/Dec/2011:18:23:35 +0000] "HEAD /APPDIR/index.jsp HTTP/1.0" 200 0
192.168.1.1 - - [14/Dec/2011:18:23:45 +0000] "HEAD /APPDIR/index.jsp HTTP/1.0" 200 0
192.168.1.1 - - [14/Dec/2011:18:23:55 +0000] "HEAD /APPDIR/index.jsp HTTP/1.0" 200 0
Interestingly, If i use a http-ping tool to send HEAD messages, the server correctly responds with the 200. A major difference between the CSS and the ping-tool, is that the CSS is using HTTP/1.0 where the ping tool uses HTTP/1.1. The GET requests are formatted a bit differently too. Below is how the different GET messages are formatted. Is it possible that WLS 11g does not support HTTP/1.0? Is there any method of debugging that I can employ to troubleshoot this further? As mentioned I do not see any errors or exceptions in the server logs or access logs....
Many thanks, in advance.

Host: 192.168.1.66Other than failing the base address test, does the device seem to work in the test panels? One quick test would be to open the digital I/O panel, change some of the lines to output, toggle the logic levels, and see if the line states track the logic levels. Also, you can switch to the Counter I/O panel, change the mode to simple event counting, set the event source to the internal 100KHz clock, and start the counter. If the counter is working properly, you should see the counter value increase at a rate of 100000/second.
If the test panels seem to work OK, you may still be able to use the board, despite the resource test failing. I still can't explain why the test fails, though.

NPE in stopWeblogic.cmd with Server Logging Bridge
I'm migrating an EAR that depends on JDK logging to WLS 10.3.3. Stopping Derby Server...
Steps to reproduce
1. Create a logging.properties file with the following contents:
# Specify the handlers to create in the root logger
handlers = weblogic.logging.ServerLoggingHandler
# Register handlers for my.app and their child loggers
my.app.handlers = java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler, weblogic.logging.ServerLoggingHandler
# Do not send the my.app log messages to the root handler
my.app.useParentHandlers = false
# Set the default logging level for the root logger
.level = ALL
# Set the default logging level for new ConsoleHandler instances
java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler.level = INFO
# Set the default logging level for new FileHandler instances
weblogic.logging.ServerLoggingHandler.level = ALL2. Add the following directive in the setDomainEnv.cmd:
set JAVA_OPTIONS=%JAVA_OPTIONS% -Djava.util.logging.config.file=path/to/logging.properties3. Start-stop the domain and the above NPE occurs while WLS keeps running. Remove the directive from step 2 and the start-stop sequence goes back to normal.
Environment
Oracle JDK:
java version "1.6.0_23"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_23-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode, sharing)OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
Your help would be very much appreciated! Please let me know if you need any additional info.
Thanks,
BasHi Sandeep,
Thanks a lot for your quick reply! You were right, the logging directive was used both client and server side. I moved
-Djava.util.logging.config.file=path/to/logging.propertiesfrom setDomainEnv.cmd to startWeblogic.cmd and WLS can be stopped correctly now.

Hi, I'm french (excuse me for my bad english)
I work with weblogic v.12C
I reach to produce the access.log rotating daily whith several information (ip statut ...)
1) I have a problem : the different information present in the file access.log are separate by a tab (tabulation) I would like to have space separator ' ' !
It is possible ? who can I do ?
2) the date present in the access.log file is actually like that : dd/MM/YYYY (elf-fields-> date) hh:mm:ss (elf-fiels -> time)
dd/MM/YYYY and hh:mm:ss are separate by a tab (tabulation)
I would like to have this format : dd/MM/YYYY hh:mm:ss (a space separator), , what i have to put in elf-fields to do so ?
Or I would like to have this format : [dd/mon/yyyy:hh:mm:ss +0000], who can i do that, what i have to put in elf-fields to do so ?
remarks :
->on the web i read this :
The Common Log Format is the default log format used by WebLogic..
... remotehost RFC931 authuser [day/month/year:hour:minute:second UTC_offset] "request" status bytes
when i put that in elf-fileds : [dd/MM/YYYY:hh:mm:ss] it that doesn't "work" I have - in my acces.log file in place of the date .
-> first line of my acces.log file :
Format : Extended
Extended Logging Format Fields : date time cs-method cs-uri sc-status time-taken cs(user-agent)
thanks in advance for your help.Hi, I'm french (excuse me for my bad english)

Hi ,
trying to configure logging for an EAR application.
Environment:
============
Oracle fustion middlware 11g (Weblogic 10.3)
OS: 64bit RH linux
Deployment target for the application is the AdminServer in the ECM domain. This domain constains the managed server UCM_server1 and IBR_server1.
WL Startup params for logging:
-Dorg.apache.commons.logging.Log=org.apache.commons.logging.impl.Jdk14Logger
-Djava.util.logging.config.file=/opt/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/ecm_domain/logging.properties
admin console settings:

java.util.logging.FileHandler.formatter = java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter

placed
com.bea.core.apache.commons.logging_1.1.0.jar (found this file in modules, although the docs say wl does not ship these . . . )
com.bea.core.weblogic.commons.logging_1.4.0.0.jar (the documentation specified 1.3.0.0 but i couldn't find that one)
checked that the wlcommons-logging.jar exists in /opt/oracle/middleware/wlserver_10.3/server/lib
The deployment unit is a standard EAR file with WEB and EJB modules. Packages within APP-INF/lib and WEB-INF/lib
are various thirdparty jars (commons, struts, tiles etc.)
Unfortunately, I don't see any of the FINE (commons.Logger.debug) messages. All messages from the 3rd party packages seem to be ignored, when the severity levels were set to INFO, FINE etc.
What am i missing something in the configuration ? Are the messages (debug, info, 3rd party messages) written to another logfile ? I've checked
the console, the AdminServer.log and the cust.log files.
thanks
MichaelHi,
i gave up on jdk logging and attepted log4j.
Found an interesting article: http://www.theserverlabs.com/blog/2010/04/22/dynamically-changing-log-level-with-weblogic-log4j-jmx-and-wlst/
and forcing JCL and log4j to read from the app classpath worked.
in the weblogic-application.xml
<wls:prefer-application-packages>
<wls:package-name>org.apache.commons.logging.*</wls:package-name>
<wls:package-name>org.apache.log4j.*</wls:package-name>
</wls:prefer-application-packages>
basically this works (haven't tried the dynamic changing of loglevels). But this led to further problems.
I'm using struts2 (2.2.1) with tiles (2.0.6) plus various other 3rd party libraries. One of these libs depends on an XML implementation (xerces). When deploying with the above configuration deployment failed when the tiles container tried to initialise the definitions while reading the tiles.xml file. The problem was that it was loading the xercesImpl.jar shipped for one of the 3rd party apps.
Removing xercesImpl.ja from APP-INF/lib fixed that problem but caused the 3rd party app to fail. Upgrading the xercesImpl caused the deployment to fail (stacktrace below)
I guess i'm delving into the reamlms of classloading within weblogic. What i don't quite understand yet is if the packages org.apache.commons, and log4j where specified as those to be preferred from the local classpath why would that effect the loading of the XML parser ?
I would have thought that the instructiosn above mean 'only prefer those packages from the APP-INF/lib dir' ...
any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Michael

Best practice for application debug logging?
I am building a webcenter portal using Oracle Webcenter 11.1.1.1.5 and deploying on Oracle Weblogic Server 11g. Please suggest what is the best practice to use for application debug logs. Should I use log4j or Apache commons library? Is it possible to manage the logs (enable/ disable/ change severity) of the logs using WLS admin console?

Change date/time layout in server.log to show milliseconds
Hi,
I need to debug the JDBC session to find delays in my source.
I used following to get the JDBC debug info:
-Dweblogic.Debug=weblogic.JDBCConn,weblogic.JDBCSQL
My problem is that the layout of the server log file does not show the milliseconds, it shows only the time with seconds.
e.g:
####<Feb 20, 2008 5:33:22 PM CET> <Info> <JDBC> <xxx> <eFlexServer> <main> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-001132> <Initialized statement cache of size "10" for connection in pool "null".>
What can I do to see also the milliseconds in the server.lof file?
Thanks for help.Which release of WLS are you using? We had added a timestamp column in the server log from WLS 9.0 onwards that is the raw timestamp of the message in millis.
