Rookie seeks help

Question

I'm trying to migrate simple ASP to JSP, and I can't quite get the syntax right.
index.asp includes:
<%
String boxtitle = "Overview of the Problem";
String boxwidth = "360";
String boxmore = "";
String boxmoreshim = "0";
%>
<%@include file="includes/cev_box1a_header.jsp"%>
cev_box1a_header.jsp includes:
<table width="<%= boxwidth %>" cellspacing="3" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr>
     <td width="20"><img src="images/arrow_black.gif" width="20" height="20" alt=""></td>
     <td width="100%" bgcolor="#CCC68D" class="box1title">  <%= boxtitle %><% if (boxmore != null) { %><img src="/images/spacer.gif" width="<%= boxmoreshim %>" height="1">  <%= boxmore %>   <% } %></td>
As you may be able to see, I am defining a few variables that I need to use withi the included header.
Could someone please help me understand what's wrong please? It's crashing on the string definitions.

ok, I solved the problem. I did not realize (I told ya, total rookie) that having "String" on the next instance of specifying the value of a variable was indeed an attempt to redefine it as well. Once I just altered the statement to this, I was good.
boxtitle = "Overview of the Problem";
