Hi Friends,
I am trying to install Oracle 11gr2 cluster ware on Linux RHEl 5..when running root.sh on second node getting with below error.

can you please guide me on this.
Thanks & Regards
Prasanth

Which version is it exactly? 11.2.0.1? 11.2.0.3?
It makes a huge difference.
Also you should consult the logfiles, which are written, to see the root cause for this error. With this you may be able to find out more.
The root.sh just tells you it could not start. But it does not tell you why (the logfiles however will tell you why).
Also have you looked at MOS? You will find loads of informations on this.
This could well be a network setup (e.g. firwall, SE Linux, or even switch problem).

Sebastian

Oracle 10gR2 RAC Installation in RedHat 5 Linux Using VMware.
Important points to install 10gR2 oracle RAC in linux5.
1.LINUX 5(Redhat 5) doesn't have /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file. so we have to configure it.
    2. Edit the /etc/redhat-release version to redhat-4 and and to invoke the runInstaller use the command
$runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs. //this will bypass the os check //
    3. Next during clusterware installation at the end of root.sh in node 2 end with error message. So we have adjust the parameters in vipca and srvctl files.
    4. vipca will fail to run. so we have to adjust some parameters and configure it manually.
refer the link, it will be useful to you to complete your installation.

Hello, it took a little searching, but I found this in a note in the GRID installation guide for Linux/UNIX:
Public IP addresses and virtual IP addresses must be in the same subnet.
In your case, you are using two different subnets for the VIPs.

  • Silent Clusterware Installation Question

    Hello -
I am attempting to run a silent installation of Clusterware. I am installing on Linux, and here is part of my script:
    /oracle_software/11g_clusterware/clusterware/runInstaller -silent -responseFile \
    $ORA_SCRIPTS/RAC_installation_pckg/crs.rsp
However, I want the above process to finish in the script before going to the part of my script that runs the root commands for the installation. Currrently, the call to the command itself completes, and then the script goes to the part to run the root commands, while the above installation is still running. How can I get it to only call the root commands after the Clusterware installation has completed? Can I make use of wait command in my Linux script?
Any help or insight is greatyly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mike

Can you please help me providing detailed pre-requesites/steps/procedure to implement this and to start boot from SAN.
    2) How to SMI Label/Format a disk while OS Installation in Solaris 11.1?
As we know that ZFS is the default filesystem in Solaris 11.
We have seen in the Oracle documentation that for rpool below are recommended:
    - A disk that is intended for a ZFS root pool must be created with an SMI label, not an EFI label.
    - Create root pools with slices by using the s* identifier.
    - ZFS applies an EFI label when you create a storage pool with whole disks.
    - In general, you should create a disk slice with the bulk of disk space in slice 0.
I have seen the solution that using format -e, we change the labelling but all the data will be lost, whats the way to apply a SMI Label/Format on a rpool disks while OS Installation itself.
Please provide me the steps to SMI Label a disk while installaing Solaris 11.1 OS.

Oracle recommends below things on rpool: (thats reason wanted to apply SMI Label)

    Hi,
it looks like, that your "shared device" you are using is not really shared.
The second node does "create an ASM diskgroup" and create OCR and Voting disks. If this indeed would be a shared device, he should have recognized, that your disk is shared.
So as a result your VMware configuration must be wrong, and the disk you presented as shared disk is not really shared.
Which VMWare version did you use? It will not work correctly with the workstation or player edition, since shared disks are only really working with the server version.
If you indeed using the server, could you paste your vm configurations?
Furthermore I recommend using Virtual Box. There is a nice how-to:

There is a note available in Metalink.. 416100.1 Have a look at it..
This is symptom where there is a discrepency in the hostnames in CRS installation.

  • Clusterware Installation: Start OracleCSService on Node2

    Hello,
    My problem is the following:
Step 1: checking status of CRS cluster
    Step 2: creating directories (C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs)
    Step 3: configuring OCR repository
    Oracle Cluster Registry already initialized
Step 4: configuring safe mode for CRS stack
Step 5: Starting up CRS stack on all nodes
node2 service OracleCSService in improper PENDING state, err(997)
The OracleCSSerivce doesn't start at the remote machine. Even if I try to start it manually, it never gets out of the status "Is starting...". I searched the internet for that problem, too, but found nothing on that. I enabled automount, I even added the registry value "DisableDHCPMediaSense". Nothing helps. :-( Since there is no way to skip this configuration process at the Installation, I'm hanging there.
I hope somebody can help me on this!
    Thanks in advance.

The device names are on both nodes the same. It's running on a Windows 2003 Server VMWare (used this Tutorial: http://www.databasejournal.com/features/oracle/article.php/3564846).
The strange thing is, on Node1, where I started the Installation routine, the OracleCSService service is starting without any problems.
    I checked the log files:
    ($ORA_CRS_HOME/log/Node2/cssd/cssdOUT.log)
    08/06/07 09:43:33 ssmain_run_css: boot check returned 8, looping
    08/06/07 09:43:34 ssmain_run_css: launching boot check 362 with c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs\bin\crsctl.exe check boot
Failure in CSS initialization opening OCR.
    08/06/07 09:43:35 ssmain_run_css: boot check returned 8, looping
    08/06/07 09:43:36 ssmain_run_css: launching boot check 363 with c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs\bin\crsctl.exe check boot
Failure in CSS initialization opening OCR.
    And so on...
Something goes wrong with this boot check and I don't know what. All Disks are visible.
I also found some trouble in the following log file.
    ($ORA_CRS_HOME/log/Node2/client/clsc.log)
Oracle Database 10g CRS Release 10.2.0.1.0 Production Copyright 1996, 2005 Oracle. All rights reserved.

    2007-08-06 09:53:29.734: [ default][3904]Terminating clsd session
Could this be the problem? If yes, what should I do? Because those errors do not appear on Node1, too. Like the other error "boot check".
