You need to contact Rosetta Stone.  I believe they also have their own forum area.  Do a Google search.

  • Rosetta and Macbook Pro on Snow Leopard

    HI I have two computers
macbook on leopard with all discs
macbook pro snow leopard, discs lost in house move
I am moving from macbook to macbook pro and have transfered the likes of adobe photoshop cs which worked fine in macbook on leopard
I can't open it in macbook pro snow leopard it keeps asking for rosetta but not going to install mode option
It seems to think i am not conneced to internet which i am
    Can anyone help?
A can I install rosetta from leopard back up dics on snow leopard?
    b Why can't I access download?

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/27987.html
    If the dialogue box isn't giving you the download option, first try another PPC based application ( you can find any that are by using System Profiler;
 > About this Mac > More Info > software tab > Applications; read the 'kind' column to find other PPC apps.
Try opening one of those and see if the dialogue box has the option.
If that fails, you need your original SL DVDs to get it from the optional installs.
Your SL Mac won't boot from Leopard and you can't install anything from it directly, but there may be a way round it. Install Pacifist and use that to find and restore the Rosetta package from the Leopard disc (it's a default install on Leopard, so may take a bit of finding).
I can't guarantee it will work - there could be differences between the Leopard and SL versions that I'm unaware of, so make sure you're backed up.

  • Mail Application quits in MacBook Pro

    Hello;
Mail Application quits randomly in !0.4.7 for Intel.
Before I had a PowerBook G4 with the same OS X and all works fine. Since change it to this new Mac Intel, there are some bad functionalities with Apple Software and others that run under Rosetta.

  • I cannot open Rosetta Stone on my macbook pro

I am unable to open my Rosetta Stone on my Macbook Pro.  Rosetta Stone is version 3.4.5

Contact the developer.  You may need a different version that is compatible with Yosemite.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro with Retina Display Rosetta Stone Issues

I just tried to install Rosetta Stone on my 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display.  It turns out that Rosetta Stone does not work with even the poorest display quality on a Retina Display.  It needs a 1024x768 display max.  Any suggestions?

  • Rosetta Stone TOTALe (Spanish) 4.5.5 Fatal Application Error 1141 Installs But Won't Launch After MacBook Restarts

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 (Maverick) and am trying to add Rosetta Stone Latin Am Spanish to this laptop, after having successfully installed it several years ago on a older MBP.
I was given the latest download file TOTALe 4.5.5 by Rosetta Stone Support for this purpose.  It will install fine and work, immediately upon installation, but when I shut down and restart, I can no longer launch the program and get the Fatal Application Error 1141 code instead.
I have been through this issue many, many times with Rosetta Stone Support already and have followed, alone and with them, the troubleshooting link set up for this problem without success. (Here is the link:  https://rosettastone.secure.force.com/en/language-learning/articles/Error-1141-a ppears-when-I-start-the-Rosetta-Stone-TOTALe-application#macdiv)  Rosetta Stone has run out of ideas to resolve this issue. (I have saved about 10 chat session transcripts where the support people have me run through the same steps over and over, despite my informing them of the previous lack of success in following these steps.)
My OS X is up to date. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem running Maverick.
Any thoughts would be greatly  appreciated.
P.S. This is a relatively new MBP and the only add-on software other than Rosetta Stone is Microsoft Office.

I have the same problem.  Back in 2011 I bought Rosetta and got the very same problem, talked and talked to their support to no avail.  On that instance they returned my purchase money.  This time around I asked beforehand if the software was totally compatible with Yosemite and they said yes.  I just got it, tried to unit and got error 1141 again.  It is very frustrating! I will talk to them again but my hopes are very low.  I guess one needs to understand that the software is crap!

  • I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive.  I have an external WD hard-drive; is it possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my mac?

I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook 10.6.7 but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive.  I have an external WD hard-drive, and I was wondering if it is possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my Mac?

I think you're confused about how much hard drive space you have.  You probably have 2 GB of RAM...  there hasn't been a Mac shipped with only a 2 GB hard drive in a while.  At the bottom of any Finder window, how much space is available?
If you're actually running low on space, you should move documents to the external drive, since many applications want to be on the system drive.

  • Latest MacBook Pro able to run Rosetta?

I plan to seek a used MacBook Pro that is able to run Rosetta on Snow Leopard. What is the latest model able to do so?

Do you have a backup of the G4's drive? Or do you have an enclosure you can use with the G4's drive?
Otherwise, you can connect the two via Firewire and use Migration Assistant:
A Basic Guide for Migration on Intel or PowerPC Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC (PowerMac) system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Note: if you are upgrading to a Mac with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or later, or with the intent of upgrading to 10.7 or later anytime in the future, be aware that any applications that are not labelled Universal, or haven't been upgraded to Intel CPU compatibility will not run on Lion or later.  Documents may migrate if an Intel native application exists that will open them, but applications that are PowerPC only will not.  This user tip explains what else is needed for upgrading to Lion: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465.
This also means for any Mac model whose hardware or firmware that has been refreshed on or after July 20, 2011, you won't be able to install 10.6.8 or get Rosetta from it unless you follow a link at the end of this tip.  It may be better to get a used or refurbished Mac that predates July 20, 2011.  See the Snow Leopard tip on the bottom for which Macs support Rosetta, which in turn supports older PowerPC applications.
Both Leopard (10.5) , and Tiger (10.4.4 through 10.4.11, excluding 10.4.0, 10.4.1, 10.4.2, and 10.4.3) have PowerPC and Intel Mac support, and upgrading to either, this tip here, as well as links to my tip on Tiger and Leopard will help with your upgrade.
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.  You can also determine if you have Firewire by looking at this image of the ports typically found on a PowerMac G4 Firewire 800, which has two 6 pin Firewire 400 (IEEE 1394a) ports below the USB ports, and below that, a Firewire 800 (IEEE 1394b).
The 4 pin Firewire found on many camcorders is just a Firewire 400 port that is not powered by the computer.  Cables exist that can convert between all three.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT
migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.
Special instructions for those who have purchased Mac models that do not support Rosetta:
The newest (post 2010) Mac models run only Lion or Mountain Lion. They are not able to run Snow Leopard at all. However, you can still run PPC applications using Snow Leopard and Rosetta by intalling Snow Leopard as a virtual machine using Parallels. This is not an exercise for the truly inexperienced user, but it is completely doable provided you are willing to spend some money and some time. For complete instructions on what to do see https://discussions.apple.com/message/18280105#18280105. Although the instructions are keyed to Parallels 7, you should instead use the latest version, Parallels 8. (This information was contributed by user MlchaelLAX.)

  • Macbook OS X Yosemite - Logitech headset output audio not working with Rosetta Stone

So I got my macbook air 2014 with Yosemite software and I installed Rosetta Stone and I couldn't get the Logitech Headset (H540) to get the output audio through it.  The software will accept the microphone audio, but it will send the output audio throughout the internal speakers of my macbook air, or even worse, it will freeze the program until I disconnected the headset (as soon as I unplugged it from the usb, the software will continue like a nothing was going on).
So I look in dozens of webpages trying to find a solution, but I there was none.  I read that for some people creating a "multi-output device" in audio midi resolved the issue, but for most people including myself, it didn't work.
So after trying different options in the Audio MIDI setups, I found the solution!! :   If you change the "format" from the default 16000.00 Hz to one higher, it will work like a charm! Now everything is working perfectly for me, including the main reason of this research: Rosetta Stone program.
I hope this post helps and saves a lot of time to any of you having this same problem.
If any other questions (or thanks ) reply to this post.

This is great!  I've got one follow-on problem to this, though:  My format rate seems to keep snapping back to 16000, and breaking until I go back and fix it again (32000 works fine for me).  Any idea how to twiddle things so that 32000 is the default for my device?

  • I have a MacBook Pro.  I am told that I can install AppleWorks on this Intel Machine. True or False? If true do I need to have Rosetta on the compuer?

I have an Intel MacBook Pro. I have been told I can install AppleWorks 6.2.9 on this machine. Is this correct? I read somewhere I would also need Rosetta but do not know if this is correct. If so how can i get Rosetta? I can presently open my old Appl;eWorks documents with Pages but my wife insist I try to get her AppleWorks back?
I had a copy of AppleWorks 6.0 from the old days but it would not install on my MacBook. A message came up saying Apple no longer supports OS9. I can purchase a copy of AppleWorks 6.2.9 but if it want install then I would be wasting my money.
    Thanks,  john

To install Rosetta you insert your initial Snow Leopard installation disk and double click optional install then double click the optional install package which will lead you through installing Rosetta. It is on the  install disk but is not installed by default.
Once you get Appleworks 6 working, assuming it then does, you can download the 6.2.9 update

  • My Mac Book Pro using Mountain Lion will show a usb headset with a mic to select in the settings window. But the Rosetta Stone software I am using will not find the mic for me to select and use. What should I do?

Mac Book Pro with OS X Mountain Lion will not recognize headset mic via Rosetta Stone software. What should I do?

    Hi Illaass,
I am using version 3. I have used the apple/settings on my mac. The headset is appearing there and it is selected there. In the Rosetta Stone select/find window nothing shows up. It is blank. But the volume bars react when I speak and sliding the fader has the expected effect of raising and lowering the input. There is just no device showing up as the selected input device in the Rosetta Stone software.
I have done everything my Mac instructions say to uninstall and reinstall the Rosetta Stone software properly.
I'm guessing the problem may be in the licensing. I installed it first on the old hard drive that crashed. Maybe that used the terms of the license and now installing it in the new hard drive violates the license somehow. So that's why it will not work properly. It allows me to open the lessons and asks me if I want to continue from where I left off. I click continue. Then it asks me if I want to register the software. I click the tab for already registered software and click continue. Then nothing happens. So again I click on the button that indicates I want to continue lessons from where I left off. The same process happens with it asking me if I want to register the software. And it will not proceed through a lesson.

  • I have a cd rom for my italian class, which I cannot open on my macbook pro with mavericks installed, someone said I need Rosetta! Help please

I have a cd rom for my italian class, but am unable to load it on my macbook pro with Mavericks installed.
Someone has said i need Rosetta, but understand that Apple stopped installing this!1
Can anyone suggest anything to help me??

Many educational CDs have not been upgraded due to lack of funds in the educational market to pay for the such updates.
This situation is due primarily to the fact that one of the major political parties in this country favors tax cuts to the rich while cutting federal educational support funding (or eliminating the federal Department of Education altogether).
However, you can restore Rosetta and run your educational CD if you install Snow Leopard Server ($20) into Parallels (up to $79) for use in Lion/Mt. Lion/Mavericks:

  • Can I run an old version of Rosetta Stone on my new MacBook?

I have an old version of Rosetta Stone. When I tried to install it to my new MacBook it said I can not install. When I called Rosetta Stone, they told me the same thing and want me to buy $100 upgrade. But someone told me that on Windows, she can run older programs by finding something called install.exe or setup.exe or some such thing and clicking on a "compatability tab". This will supposedly set up an "old school" environment for that programs so it thinks it is being run undre an older version.
Does anybody know any way to run an old program on a new MacBook. I'd like to avoid buying a $100 upgrade for Rosetta Stone.
    TIA

Rosetta, as in the language teaching software? Did you ever run it on a Mac, however old?
If it did run on Macs and is truly ancient, it may be that the program is written for the previous processors that Apple used, the PPCs. Since the days of the Lion, OS X no longer carries the translator that allows you to run that old code (the translator is also called Rosetta, btw). The other possibility is that the main Rosetta program is Universal (carries both the PPC and the Intel code) but the installer itself is PPC only.

  • Rosetta Stone to MacBook Air?

I'm new to Mac Systems and want to install Rosetta stone on MacBook air.  The only cd/DVD drive I have is on my PC.  What is the best way to install?

    Basically, you have three ways.
    1. Remote Disc. A means by which your PC's DVD device can be linked to your computer.
    2. Copy CD contents to USB flash drive using your PC. Then use USB drive to install software to MacBook Air.
    3. External Superdrive, or another compatible external USB DVD device.
I would opt for #2 right off, if you have a flash drive to use. No configuration required.
