Rotate images using Flash / XML???

Problem:
I have pictures that I am shooting with a camera and saving straight to a directory -- then then trying to show them in a web browser without opening and saving them using an editor like photoshop or something...  The problem is that they all default to a "landscape" orientation eventhough I may shoot some of them in portrait with or without auto rotate camera setting to on.  I understand that this is due to the fact that current web browsers can not interpret the auto rotation data straight from the cameras files.
Challenge:
How do I
A) get them to read the data or convert those images using a script or something?
B) setup a rotation command within my Flash program that can be used to rotate the image by the viewing user in real-time?
Please help!
Thanks

Could you post a link to the page in question? Meanwhile: are
the
hotspots all in the same place on the different images, or do
they move
around?

  • Flash xml file and file size?

I have a flash animation that pulls in images using an xml
    file. I was
wondering if the images must all load first? In other words,
    the images
are timed to load at different times. I was thinking, when I
    did this,
that the images would not be downloaded until they were
    called but I am
    starting to doubt this.
Anyone have any idea how these images are loading?
Basically, my main concern is that they are putting too much
    load on the
homepage. I have a feeling I know what the answer is.
    Thanks

whatever the size of your SWF is, is what is going to be
loaded when entering your homepage. Flash doesn't know what images
to load, until you make a call to load them. It will only load the
assets on the timeline, and anything set to export on the first
    frame.

  • :gift; Sample of building a FAQ section using Flash 8

I solved to use Flash + XML to build a FAQ section yesterday,
with proper stylesheet applied and fully automatic "line jumping".
People who interests to work on the same thing may take it as
    reference. Enjoy!
    http://iawha.blogspot.com/2007/06/sample-of-building-faq-section-using.html#links

The short answer is you can't do that. Flash 8 is
ActionScript 2 while Flex 2 is ActionScript 3. When ActionScript 2
is loaded into the Flash Player it is put into a separate virtual
machine than the ActionScript 3 code. This is how the Flash Player
maintains backward compatability. There isn't a way for the AS3
code to reach in and tinker with the AS2 code and vice-versa.
But all is not lost. You can use LocalConnection to
communicate between the two virtual machines. Check my blog,
there's an article about doing that:
    Using
ActionScript 2 SWFs with Flex 2

  • Creating multiple links from one map image in Flash CS4

I have been tasked with creating multiple links from one map image using flash. Each link would go to the main website page with that location. I assume I could create a button for each location on the map but not having a lot of experience any help / tutorial you know of would be super helpful.. Thanks! Not looking for someone to work me thru it but a little guidance would be great!

If I was to answer the problem, I would be giving you what you asked not to be given... the solution.  So I'll suggest that you start by researching the getURL() function.  That is what AS2 uses for opening web pages.
As for coding a button, I'll recommend the following article for you... it will explain the proper approach to coding a button, which will give you an advantage over others who don't follow it, but instead use the way the article says not to.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/as_bestpractices_04.html
Google is one of the best resources available for learning how to do things with Flash--it's the first place I go when I have a wondering.  In general, if you type in the right keywords, you get fairly good search results.  In your case, combinations of "AS2", "button", "getURL", "tutorial" would probably work well.

  • Using Flash to Rotate Images - how???

I'm trying to do something that I thought was standard/easy in flash.  I would like to rotate photos on my Dreamweaver website homepage (dissolve from one photo the next) - like a slideshow.  How do I do this and then incorporate into Dreamweaver?
Is it using Flash animation, or Flash slideshow/photo gallery?  Can I embed that right into my homepage?
    Thank you!

As far as I know it is not a standard/easy thing to do in Flash, although I do not have the latest version so I cannot speak for any such built-in feature they might have added.  Most people that have a Flash slideshow either purchased it or created it from their own come-to-know how.  You could try searching Google using "Flash slideshow tutorial" and you might find something you can create yourself.
Alternatively, you might also want to look into using one of the likely many jQuery-based slideshows that are available.  It won't require you to learn Flash and should utlimately be as easy as adding code to a web page. If you Google "jQuery slideshow tutorial" you should find something you can get working fairly easily.
Either way you go, you should end up with something you can put in your homepage.

  • I have a Flash Sample to rotate images and text but I not find a way to display special characters

    Hello everyone.
I bought a very nice Flash application that rotate images, and text of any color and size. It use an XML input file.
I've posted here, a complete copy, so any of you can download, view and use it freely.
I would appreciate if any of you know how to do, so that the text displayed, including the characters I use in my language (Spanish), such as á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ, and other special characters.
In fact, I could not find a way to do it, because I'm not expert Flash, and less in ActionScript.
If any of you would help me on that, I thank you implement the appropriate adjustments and compressed into a. zip file, and let me know where to download it, or if you prefer you can send it to my email: [email protected]
After all compressed in .zip format is a very small file: 430K.
Click here to download the complete sample.
    Thanks.

    Hello Rinus,
If I understood your last post correctly, then problem 2 is resolved, right?
    Regarding problem 3:
I'm not asking you to share exact VIs.
I just want to see a very simple VI that explains the concept of what you're trying to do, what should happen (this can be in words that refer to the front panel elements) and what you've tried.
The terminology you're using isn't clear to me without an extra explanation.
This could even be only a Front Panel with a few buttons on where you just describe what should happen with specific controls/indicators.
Based on the first post it is not clear to me what you mean with:
    - A "button element":
Are you talking about a control, an indicator, a cluster that contains multiple control?
    - The structure:
Is this an event structure, case structure, for loop, ...?
Is it seems like you want to programmatically control Front Panel objects, which on itself is no problem at all independent of how many objects you want to control.
Please share with me simple example of what goes wrong and explain which things should happen on that specific Front Panel.
This will allow me to help you and also allow me to guide you along the right path.

  • Flash making rotated images crunchy

    greetings Flash gurus,
anytime i rotate a bitmap image, it gets VERY crunchy. the
edges are especially noticeable (although it is clear that the
entire image gets affected). this happens even with high quality
mode set for the resulting swf. the resulting bitmap looks like it
has been sent back to to 1990, rotated by some cheap process, and
then returned to 2008. :( seriously, is Flash no better at
    interpolating images than this ?
(yes i know that Flash was originally designed as a vector
engine (I am an old Flash user getting back into it) ... but the
image handling looks no better than when i first used images with
    Flash back in the day)
i am really hoping that someone here can tell me how to
improve this image rotation/scaling issue -- please tell me there
is a setting somewhere that allows me to turn on "high(er) quality"
bitmap interpolation... an entire project depends on this !
thank you very much in advance.

Hi Dave, thanks for your input.
(what follows is not addressed to you, but rather to Adobe,
hopefully for the benefit of the Flash community at large... )
with all of the other feature additions and optimizations
that Flash has had over the last 4-5 years (video support, image
filters, actionscript 2 & 3, data remoting, etc.) it just
surprises me that this has not yet been addressed. it is SO
    basic...
in fact, smooth bitmap interpolation is one of the most basic
visual requirements that any pixel-conscious developer (or viewer)
would expect. YES it impacts performace, but give the developer the
OPTION of choosing between (or balancing) performance and
    smoothness. (Adobe are you listening?)
right now my test anim (with crunchy bitmaps) runs
super-smoothly up to 100 fps (the bitmaps are quite small). it
would be perfectly OK if it only played back at 30 or even 20 fps
but *with* smoothly interpolated (rotated) bitmaps.
if Adobe hasn't added this kind of optimization in by now, i
hope they realize what an eyesore it is and implement a modern
interpolation solution sooner rather than later.

  • Using Flash's xml.sendAndLoad behind a proxy

We have a product that uses Directory and Flash to collect
data and then we send that data to a web server via a soap call. We
had been using an external perl script to do the soap call for many
years and are wanting to move the code in to Flash or Directory so
we can give the user better feed back about what is happening with
    the soap call.
I created som flash scripts that use the XML object and the
sendAndLoad function to do the calls. The problem I am finding is
that if the client is behind a proxy the call fails. Is there a way
to fix this and correctly authenticate with the proxy server so
that the soap call goes through?

I don't know how you'd do this using a Flash object, but
    Director's
built-in NetLingo xtra can handle SOAP requests as of version
    10.1 and
this, in conjunction with the proxyServer() command, should
    be all you
need - assuming you have access to proxy details.

  • How to retain zoom position of an image using Adobe Flash Builder?

    Hi,
I have created an Adobe Flash Builder Mobile App. I placed an image in the Homeview. I allow the user to zoom out or zoom in the image using GestureZoom.
The problem is each time the user zooms, it does not retain the previous position.
For ex., If I have a map image, I zoom the Bangalore area. After the zoom, I don't see the Bangalore area in the visible portion of the device screen.
Can anyone help me in this? I feel this is a very basic requirement of zoom but I am missing something really.
I have seen few samples of this requirement in Adobe Flash which does not work for mobile apps.

I don't understand what you mean, but to give you a sample file so you can see what I am talking about:
    link to fla file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/48932382/Untitled-1.fla
    link to swf file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/48932382/Untitled-1.swf
As you can see in this file, I am turning the green page, but when you should be seeing behind the page, it's actually transparent and you end up seeing the page underneath it.
Here is a picture of it: (if your wondering, the pages have the same text, it's just the color of the pages are different)
