Roxio won't open in Desktop Manager Ver 4.5 on Acer Aspire one

When I try to open Roxio, in Desk Top Manager V 4.5, it gives a message that my screen resolution should be set to 1024 x 768 but my Acer aspire One is only capable of 1024 x 600. It works fine on another notebook and my desktop. I'd really like to get my music and jpg files from my 8830 to this new laptop also. Does anyone know of a work around for this problem? Thanks.

You can do it with windows explorer, connect the device to the pc and open windows explorer, and you can manage all the pictures and songs, becuase the device is detected like a external hard drive

  • Airport Express won't work with Acer Aspire One

    I've recently set-up a wifi network for my parents. They have a cable modem from which an ethernet cable runs to their Vonage modem. From there, another ethernet runs to the Airport Express (set to Bridge Mode). Wifi uses WPA2 Personal encryption.
    My MacBook Pro as well as my dad's Dell laptop (Vista) can connect just fine and browse the web, no problemo.
    However, my Mom's Acer Aspire One netbook (Win XP) keeps on saying "Acquiring network address" and kind of just hangs there. I've tried resetting the Airport Express to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I'm open to any suggestion guys, thanks!

    I'll take a quick pass, but no guarantees as I'm not a PC guy.
    XP, depending on the version installed on the Acer may not fully support WPA2 Encryption. Or, if it does, you may need to change some settings on the PC to use TKIP, not AES associated with WPA2.
    It might be a bit easier to switch the security to WPA/WPA2 Personal on the AirPort Express and give that a try.
    AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Wireless Tab > Wireless Security.
    The same TKIP/AES thing may still apply on the ACER though, so you'll need to investigate if things are still sticky on the ACER.
    Finally, my PC friends tell me that 90% of all connection problems on a PC can be traced to the Firewall settings and/or anti-virus settings. You may have to go into the applications to specifically allow the connection to the Express.

  • Tour 9630 won't work with Desktop Manager/Media Manager

    Just got this BB from Verizon, everything works fine but when I plug it into my PC the Desktop Manager software is a mess.  I'm running Win XP.  I've double checked all the USB connections, uninstalled and reinstalled the the BB software and taken the BB battery out and put it back, so it's none of those things.  I brought the BB back to Verizon they said "it's working fine, must be a driver or something, duh".
    When I plug in the BB and bring up Desktop Manager sometimes the BB is recognized sometimes not.  When I try to use the Roxio Media Manager it comes halfway up but the hourglass cursor never goes away and it just sits there thinking for hours.  Sometimes I get a pop up saying " First Time Configuration...., it won't let hit any of the choices, I just have the hourglass thinking.  I always have to hit Ctl, Alt, Del and call up my task manager to quite the program because the hourglass never turns back into the cursor.   I just want to manage my media.  This is very frustrating.

    HI - I have the exact same problem as this post. Yes- i've uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop manager software- I plug in my BB tour 9630 and I get would you like MSP- I click yes and get nothing in the managerManger. No options. If I click NO the only thing I can do is back updata- No media downloads.
    It was working fine until last Sunda and I've changed nothing on my laptop. The USG port works perfect and the cable is new.

  • ITunes won't open to desktop, stays in taskbar

    Hola all,
    My iTunes recently has refused to open on the desktop. It will start when I plug in my iPhone and sync but it stays in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. When I double click it, it won't open to the desk top, just show the minimized player in the taskbar. I've tried closing all iTunes processes and rebooting but still no dice.
    Anyone have this happen to you? I've got some songs I purchased from the iTunes store on my phone I'd like to drop into playlists but I can't get iTunes to open on my desktop.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    This one might be a damaged iTunes display preference. (Seen similar things happen once or twice to people with the QuickTime Player, and it was a display preference issue there.)
    We can check to see if a damaged display preference is afoot by checking to see if this is a systemwide or user account specific issue.
    From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
    Open Add or remove user accounts
    Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process.
    Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. Log into the newly created user account. (Don't use Fast User Switching to move between accounts.)
    Open iTunes in the new user account. Does the setup assistant run and show you (eventually) a blank library screen? Or does iTunes stay minimised to the Task bar in the new account too?
    If iTunes *does not stay minimised* in the new account, the technique you need (to check-on/fix a display preference issue) is described in the "Remove iTunes Preference files" section of the "User-specific troubleshooting" section of the following document:
    [iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717]
    Before starting out on that, set the PC up to view hidden files and folders, as per the description at the beginning of the "User-specific troubleshooting" section.
    *Some heads-ups before proceeding*
    Be careful of any custom preferences (EQ, imports, etc) you have set up. Take a note of those, because rebuilding the relevant prefs returns all such prefs to their default settings. You may need to set up any such preferences all over again.
    You may also need to reinstall any third-party plugins afterwards.
    Things to expect during the pref file rebuild ... moving one set to the desktop (on XP) causes the setup assistant to run during the rebuild. Avoid saying yes if it asks you to import all the media files on your PC into iTunes. Otherwise, you'll end up duplicating all your content in your iTunes library. Moving the other set of prefs to the desktop (on XP) means that you have to agree to the licence agreement again.

  • Firefox won't open on some managed machines

    Hello,
    We've been using Safari on our school's managed Macs. I have downloaded Firefox on 96 Science MacBooks since they use a program that works better with Firefox. I have given the computer workgroup permission to open Firefox, but it won't open on about half of the laptops. The dock icon bounces once, but then stops. Any solutions? Thanks!

    We have this same problem at one of our schools: Local Admin account can launch FireFox, and browse to his heart's content, network managed clients get a blank page. Randy's process did not fix it, however did carry the preferences over.
    FireFox 3 STILL opens with a blank page for a managed user. When attempting to type a URL into the address bar then hitting enter or clicking the arrow to go to that URL, the browser does nothing. Literally, it doesn't even try to load a page.
    I've posted at the Mozilla forums as well, but no one seems to be getting anywhere there, either.
    http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-viewforum_thread.php?forumId=1&commentsparentId=101655
    The odd thing is, at our Middle School and High School, we use Active Directory AND Open Directory with Workgroup Managed Clients, and this is not an issue.

  • Won't open from desktop, start menu or anywhere else since I got the newest version.

    For the last few weeks, since I got the newest version of Firefox, I've been experiencing more an more problems with it. Now, I can't even get to open from the desktop or the start menu. I never had problems with it before the new version, now I've had to revert back to IE to get on the net. Any suggestions? I read thru previous comments but couldn't find anything like this.

    I don't know whom to thank first-- b noir for telling me about the Lorraine fix or Lorraine for figuring out the fix. THE LORRAINE FIX WORKED FOR ME!!! (I feel a little like I am advertising "Hooked on Phonics" with that last line!)
    Thank you doesn't say it strongly enough, but THANK YOU b noir and Lorraine for your help. I was to the boiling point last night and starting to get there tonight. Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
    I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."
    I am so happy I think I might sing. Or not--I will let my songs on iTunes do the singing for me now that I can again!!!!!!!
    And to those still looking for answers--be patient--I now know how incredibly frustrating this can be and I hope that you all find your solutions very very soon!!

  • XP Pro on computer won't open Blackberry Desktop software

    I have been unable to synch my BlackberryTour with Outlook 2010. We run XP Pro as an operating system on the computer in question. Various versions of the Blackberry Desktop software haven't helped. Either they will open the BB Desktop Software (Version 5.0) but won't synch to Outlook 2010, or the BB software loads apparently successfully, but won't open on the computer (Version 7.1). My husband says he tried all the BB desktop versions in between unsuccessfully. Any ideas of what to try?

  • Won't sync to desktop manager.

    Hi!
    I was wondering if anyone could help me.  I am trying to connect to my desktop manager on my mac and my phone will not connect.  It has done so previously but now whenever I try it tells me that its not connected.  I am not sure what all to do to solve the problem.
    Also I know this isn't a desktop manager issue but thought since I was posting maybe I could kill 2 birds with one stone.  My phone profile is set to loud and previously it used to give me a tone and vibrate for a phone call, text message, etc.  Now it does not ring, give tones or vibrate so I don't know when I'm receiving a call or a text or anything else.  Why would this be?  In addition to that, whenever I try to read the texts that I have received, it is doing something strange.  Previously when I would click on the message it would open it up.  Now it marks it as read without opening it.  I have to click it again to get it to open.  Before when I would reply it would include the other persons text but now it only shows anything I have said to them.  What can I do to fix this as well?
    The only thing I have done differently on my phone lately is to download some free themes out of the Blackberry App World.  I installed them and then decided I didn't like 2 of them so deleted them.  However they are still showing in the theme section.  How can I get them to go away permanently and would this have caused the problem?
    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Are you still experiencing this issue? Have you tried using another USB port or USB cable to connect? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac. http://bbry.lv/cjrGPM

    I've just purchased a Blackberry 8900 and have installed Desktop Manager 5.0 on my PC.  I can't get my BB to sync with Outlook 2003.  When I try to configure the Synchronization settings, I select the Device application and click on Calendar.  It then asks which applicaton I want to sync with and I select Microsoft Outlook.  Next I'm selecting two way sync (although I've tried both of the one ways syncs as well and I receive the same message).  I then click on transfer only future items.  Then I get a Runtime Error:  Option's value is unacceptable.  Please check option properties.  I've tried uninstalling Desktop Manager and reinstalling it---both from the CD that was provided and also from the BB website.  Any ideas on what I can do to get the sync to work?

  • Desktop Manager Vers 7 Not Installing

    Ok I've tried going through all the messages on this forum to see why I keep getting an error message when trying to install
    1st of all I do what is necessary on the website, download the lastest version of desktop manager via here

    and once it has downloaded, i then proceed to install.
    BUT!!!!!!!
    when the files have been extracted automatically  and the windows installer icon appears.....................thats when it all stops and gives up.
    I get an error message reading
    "The installation files cannot be validated. Please verify the installer package and try again"
    I have re downloaded this about 6 times and I get the same messages all the time.
    I've tried various ways to sort this out like here

  • Dock Won't Open and Desktop Flashes

    When I log in the dock never opens and the desktop continuously flashes. I know exactly what is causing this but have no idea how to fix it.
    Basically, there is a corrupt file in my downloads folder so the dock keeps restarting as soon as it opens causing my desktop to flash every time. This loop can be seen happening in the activity monitor.
    The catch is that I can't access my downloads folder to delete the corrupt file as whenever I try to open my downloads folder in Finder, Finder will also restart and the window disappears.I have also tried accessing the downloads folder in safe mode but the same thing happens.
    I need to find out how I can either delete the downloads folder altogether, or at least delete all files in it without using Finder. I am confident this will fix the problem but I have no idea how to do this.
    This is only specefic to my login as I have created another user which works fine. However, I would prefer not to have to start using a whole new login if I can avoid it.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Firefox won't open until Task Manager is opened, why?

    Recently I have noticed a slight problem with my Firefox browser. Upon closing when I attempt to re open (shortcut: ctrl + alt + f), it just sits there. It doesn't even appear to be registering that its trying to open. If I try to open again it does nothing & will only fully open & show the running Firefox windows when I open Task Manager. It doesn't happen all the time although its been an off & on occurrence over the past few days now. Is this happening because of the shortcut key? Or is there another problem why it wont start until Task Manager is opened?

  • Calendar won't open - crashes desktop

    Treo 650/Win XP
    Installed desktop 6.2 and now it crashes every time I try to open calendar.
    (Foolishly!) Tried to install previous version 4.1.4e and now there are 2 icons in Desktop for every function. One set work and seem to be the 4.1.4e ones, the other set partly work (Tasks, memos) but addresses contains nothing (although the other icon does!) and date still crashes desktop.
    I suspect and fear the answer is uninstall/re-install desktop - but does anyone have any hints that avoid this, or if not, how to do it safely?
    Thanks
    Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

    At this point, you will need to do a "clean" uninstall and re-install of Palm desktop.
    Do you have your current data on the Treo or in Palm desktop?
    If you have the data in Palm desktop, export the data, uninstall Palm desktop, re-install Palm desktop and import the data.
    Here is a procedure for exporting the data for backup purposes.
    The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
    Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
    Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
    With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
    Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
    With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
    Here are the instructions for the "clean" uninstall.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
    from your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
    you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.
    For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

    I had a completed iMovie project (that was always visible in the project list) that I wanted on my desktop for easy access. I dragged it from Finder to the desktop to create an icon. When I opened the icon on my desktop, it opens iMovie, but that project is nowhere to be found!!! When I close iMovie and reopen, the project isn't even listed in the projects bar anymore! I check trash on my computer (on a fluke) and found a folder titled "iMovie temporary items." When I click on it, the folder inside is the name of my movie and the next one is 'iMovie Cache.' Inside that is Cache.mov and Cache.plist. I spent hours on this video and absolutely need to locate it! Please, please help!!! :/

    Same thing here. I've tried everything possible including assigning powepoint to a specific desktop. When I click on it, it goes back to whatever desktop I was working on but no powerpoint window.
