RSS Portlet ... rendering markup?

I installed the RSS reader portlet (by the way, it works in 6.1) and noticed that html markup isn't being rendered as html markup.
For example, if the rss has a link, the user actually sees the brackets, br tags, etc.
Anyone found an easy fix for this?
Also on my wish list was fixing the proxy settings and allowing it to ignore SSL errors...

AAARG. I'm starting to hate this RSS portlet.
So I have a forums software (phpbb3), that I'm pulling in RSS feeds from.
So I can put javascript into a forum post, and it will be propertly html escaped in the forum and in the feed....
it looks like this in the forum and in the rss feed:
&lt;script&gt;alert(&quot;hello world&quot;)&lt;/script&gt; <-- those are supposed to be "& l t ;" and "&g t ;" instead of the actual angle brackets
however, in the RSS portlet, you actually see the hello world alert, and when you view source you see the angle brackets and not the &lt; &gt;...
sigh ... any ideas?
I"m not sure what the solution should be here...if I turn on html encoding in reader.jsp, then every tag gets encoded, even br...so its not really a good solution

i switched up some things in the RSS feed for my forum so it double-escaped the script tags. all's well that ends well.

  • RSS portlet Error!

    Hi,
I am using the RSSPortlet 1.0 downloaded from Sun's site. I have deployed it in Open Portlet Container but its giving out an error!!
    Invalid URL, please re-enter
Invalid XML: Error on line 4: The element type "meta" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</meta>".
This error comes when I am entering a new feed URL and saving in the edit page. Again, this error comes in the view page as well while reading the first rss feed.
I have tried using well formated xml file as well as I have tested the URLs which I am entering.
Can anyone suggest anything? Has anyone used the RSS portlet?
    Thanks.

    Hi Lasanthajn,
Is this the same setting for other web app ?
Did you put future date and month intentionally ? Sun, January 2016 ?
Did you try putting http://lankacnews.com/sinhala/?feed=rss2 ?
Let us know your results, thanks

  • RSS Portlet

    Hi,
I am currently using Weblogic 7.0. Does weblogic provide a RSS portlet for Content
Syndication on the web. The "WorldNews" porltet available with SamplePortal of
Bea Weblogic. throws an error on accessing that particular page(on which the World
News Porltet resides). Any pointers why this error could be occuring would be
    helpful.
The error that is thrown at the server is
javax.servlet.ServletException: String index out of range: -1
    at weblogic.servlet.internal.ServletStubImpl.invokeServlet(ServletStubImpl.java:450)
    and many more lines..
Also if anyone has worked on building an RSS Portlet ...could you please let me
    how to go about it.
Would really appreciate a prompt reply.
    Thanks,
    Ankita

There was once a Oracle By Example with the RSS example in Portal on OTN.
I cannot find it now but try searching OTN.

  • Timeout portlet rendering for slow or non responsive portlets ?

    Hi,
We have a requirement to implement a timeout for portlet rendering on a
portal if the rendering of any of the portlets exceed a specified time
    interval (configurable).
For example if a portlet would normally take 200ms to render, if during
the render phase that time limit is exceeded then the content of the
portlet should not rendered but instead an error message is displayed.
The idea behind this is to prevent problems with a single portlet
stopping the rendering of the portal page itself. If for example a
portlet uses a database but the response time for that DB is slow we do
not want this to hold up the render of the entire portal page.
Can anyone recommend how might be the best way to implement this
functionality in 8.1 ?. Furthermore if there is no mechanism to do this
in 8.1 are there any roadmap plans to implement this kind of feature in
the product at any point in the future in an SP or major release ??.
The current portal that we are migrating uses Watchdog to implement this
functionality currently and thus we need to be able to imitate this
    during the migration to 8.1.
    TIA
    Martin

It was my antivirus clogging the pipes. I installed another and it's fine.

  • RSS portlet -- multiple instances w/ different contentURLs?

The documentation of the RSS sample portlet (http://edocs.bea.com/workshop/docs81/doc/en/core/index.html)
describes how you can use this portlet in your own portal application. Furthermore,
it claims that it is possible to use different instances of the RSS portlet with
different contentURLs. I am unable to figure out how I can set the contentURL
as an instance property. It appears that it can only be globally changed for the
entire portlet itself, meaning that all instances of this portlet have the same
    content.
    Any hints appreciated.

i can only assume that it is a portlet preference. you can go in through the admin
tools and set them or if the portlet hase an 'edit' button they should be editable
through there for the end user.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

    Hi,
Have you tried deploying your portlet application from within JDev? It looks like the problem lies in deploying libraries. The missing class is located in portlet-client-adf.jar, which is part of the ADF Portlet Components tag library. This library should already be in your WEB-INF/lib directory.
Deploying from the command line is possible and practical, but sometimes a hassle because you manually need to resolve most of the library dependencies. So I would advice to first try to deploy from within JDev using a deployment profile, and then try to move towards command line deployment.

  • "Saved searchs" portlet rendering

In that portlet, when i click on a saved search, i automaticaly go to the default SearchResultPage. I don't like it as it looks completly different from my portal.
--> where is it customizable ?
--> isn't it possible to choose to display saved searchs in the portlet, like we can do for the custom search portlet ?

The "Saved Search" portlet is not an actual search portlet therefore it is unable to display results within the portlet.
Currently there is no ability to customize this portlet to change where the results will be displayed. Therefore the saved searches will always be displayed in the default search results page.
However it is possible to change the page which is the default search results page. On the 'Administer' tab, if you navigate to the 'Search Settings' screen, the first setting enables you to select the page which is to be used as the default search results page.
(The default value for this setting is the shipped results page, namely Portal Design-Time Pages -> Search Results Page).
Therefore you can create your own results page to use as the default search results page. Please note that this page will then be used to display results from an Advanced Search portlet and uncustomized Custom Search portlets.

  • Rendering Portlets Dynamically

    Hi
I have been trying to look into how to render the portlets dynamically through the backing bean. I am working on Web Center 10gR3 and portlet rendering in static. What i mean is that we have to define the portlets on the jsp page. In this way we cannot rearrange the portlets, create them in tabular form and many things.
Now i tried rendering the portlets via the Backing bean using the PortletBase Object but im having issues. The Portlet is binded to the pageDefinition in the jsp in this way:
    value="#{binding.OmniPortlet}"
Now i cannot set this value in the Backing bean, even if i do i get an error. That binding is null. I am able to render the portlet container but get the error binding is null.
    Looking forward for a response.
    Thankyou in Advance
    Nauman Bashir

    Hi Kunel,
Following two parameters you need to change in adf-config.xml file.
parallelPoolSize: The number of threads to use for parallel execution of tasks. (Default value: 10)
parallelQueueSize: The size of the queue of tasks waiting for parallel execution. Tasks are rejected once the queue size is exceeded. (Default value: 20)
In case there are more parallel requests from a WebCenter page than this set queue size then some requests will be blocked.
See more information in the documentation here:

  • Is there a CM SDK portlet for Portal 10g Release 2 ?

I originally posted this under the content topic within the Oracle Portal forum and someone suggested that I post it here.
Has anyone found or developed a portlet that can be used to access content stored in a CM SDK repository? We have a substantial amount of content stored in a 9iFS repository that we propose to migrate to CM SDK. We would like to maintain and publish some of this content through Portal. There are several Oracle white papers that mention close integration between Portal and CM SDK but I have been unable to find any real implementation examples.
    Thanks in advance - Niels
-- Suggestion by Christian Hauser ---
    hi niels,
please post this question in the OCS forum since OCS are providing the portlets. from what i know there is 2 ways of integrating content from content services:
    - use the omniportlet datasource for content services to publish content
    - use the content services portlet that are provided by the OCS team
    hope this helps.
    regards,
    christian

    Hi Niels
Are you after a portlet for CM SDK, or for our new Oracle Content Services?
9iFS evolved in to CM SDK.
Content Services evolved (at least in concept) from Oracle Files which is built on the CM SDK.
What functionality are you expecting in the portlet?
Content Services ships with both an out-of-the-box portlet that shows "My Recent Files", and also allows one to configure folder navigation links to Content Services. The navigation links when clicked result in the portlet rendering the direct folder listing for the folder. When items in the folder listing are clicked, they ship the user off to the DAV server to open the sub-folder/document.
Content Services also supports OmniPortlet access which among a host of features allows one to dynamically configure a result listing from a search in content services. Parameters can be configured for the omni portlets and values submitted to it via the page url. A parameter form allows one to enter particular criteria (such as a filename pattern) that can be submitted to the portal page and then intercepted by omni portlet to apply to the search query.
    Matt.

I am supposing I have to upload connections.xml to the Spaces server as well.. but where do I upload to, and how to I "register" it??
Can anyone help? Thank you very kindly.

    Hello,
JSR168 is a fairly simplistic standard, but there are ways of doing most things.
For example, to get the portlet's ID (I'm assuming you want a unique portlet instance ID, and not an ID for that "type" of portlet), you can use the PortletRequest.getWindowID() to return an ID for the portlet unique to the user's session.
For storing URLs that need to be re-configured depending on deployment, that is usually done with portlet preferences in JSR168 portlets-- the portlet can read its preference value, which can be set by a developer or an administrator (or the portlet itself, if you wish). Java property files deployed with the portlets can also contain this configuration information.

  • Height of portlet on page

I have a simple question. I am not able to influence the height of a portlet on a .jspx page. Whereas setting the width property has effect, setting the height does not do anything. What am I doing wrong.

    It should work.
A simple test to follow: create a new .jspx, register the WSRP Sample producer, drag the HTML portlet of that producer on your .jspx , set the height to 500 and start this page. The height is set to 500.
You need to know that the portlet rendering is part of the producer which does not know anything about the page HTML around the portlet.
The cause of your problem may be
    a) The portlet content is bigger that you have reserved on the page so the portlet height might be extended
    b) Inconsistencies in the portlet's HTML rendering (broken HTML structures)
    c) Somewhat 'cached' settings or kept memory structures. You could stop the container of the .jspx and restart the page

  • Reports in portlet region (Portal)

    Hello!
I have a report that have a link to another report and is integrated to Portal, but when the second report is called it was displayed in all the page and i want that is displayed in the portlet region, what i have to do to display the second report in the portlet region over the first report?
mi call to 2nd report is this:
    function F_DEPTNOFormatTrigger return boolean is
    begin
    SRW.SET_HYPERLINK('http://<host>:<port>/reports/rwservlet?prueba2&report=Prueba2&deptno='||:deptno );
    return (TRUE);
    end;
    thanks a lot!

    hello,
you did not specify which version of the application serve we are talking about. i assume 9.0.2, since you are describing an in-line rendering of the report content.
in 9.0.4 we moved to using iframes to do the portlet rendering (if your browser supports it) as iframes allow you in-line linking, meaning the called report will render inside the portlet. in 9.0.2 this is not possible.
    thanks,
    ph.

  • Requirement of tabbed portlets in weblogic portal 10.3.2

    Hi,
We've a requirement of tabbed panes on a particular page & each tabbed pane should have a portlet rendering the content from CMS.
Just like IE 7 has tabbed pages. Also, on click of tabbed portlets, only the portlet content should be rendered without affecting the entire page to be refreshed.
Need sample code/help on the same.
    Thanks,

Look at putting a book into a placeholder in a page, just like you would put a portlet there. Then, each page in that book would hold a portlet that renders the appropriate content item (you can perhaps use Content Presenter portlet for this). This would give you the look you wish and clicks on the embedded book should not rerender the entire page if you have Desktop mode set for the Async mode on the desktop.
