Ruby gem "minitest" is really old version.

Hi.
Why ruby package (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/ruby/) contains minitest in version 4.7.5, which is 1.5 year old? (https://rubygems.org/gems/minitest/versions).
Is it bug or feature?
I've decided to learn ruby, so I've installed ruby package, then I've let pacgem (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pacgem/) make and install packages with individual gems, starting at "rails" and then all dependencies. Then i've advanced to first step in creating rails application -
rails new ./
with repsonse:
/usr/lib/ruby/2.1.0/rubygems/dependency.rb:298:in `to_specs': Could not find 'minitest' (~> 5.1) - did find: [minitest-4.7.5] (Gem::LoadError)
Pacgem did not want to install minitest from rubygems repo, but I want to have my system clean with all gems managed by package manager. And also newest version (ruby package looks like newest, but minitest inside don't and some gems (rails) need higher version to work). What to do now?

OK, thank guys. If ruby is distributed with minitest 4.7.5 and minitest of other version can be installed without conflict (minitest in AUR use another files than official ruby package), then it is more bug in pacgem than in ruby. I'll try to raise bug in pacgem.

  • How do I sync my new Iphone without restoring it to a really old version?

I just got a new  iPhone as a replacement . I dont want anyof my newer contacts erased but I need to sync my iphone to my itunes and its asking me to restore as new or restore to an old backup from 4 months ago. How do I get around this.

Was all the music purchased on iTunes? If yes then you own that music, just like if you buy an app you can always reinstall it under that Apple ID. If not and the music is on you itunes then just sync your music and choose what songs you want. If you have iTunes match ($25 a year) then you will always have all your music on all your Apple devices. It also makes sure the quality is as high as possible and all your album artwork is there.

  • Old Versions of Microsoft Word

Does anyone know where I can get really old versions of Microsoft Word? I would need either Word 4.0 on a floppy disk, or something right after it that would still access documents in Word 4.0, or someplace online where I could download the software. I could then transfer it to floppy disk and print from a very old Mac, or at least be able to open the documents in formatted form on a new one. Thanks.

You may be able to open Word v4 files using these apps.
WordPerfect is a word processing application. At the height of its popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it was the de facto standard word processor, but has since been eclipsed in sales by Microsoft Word. WordPerfect version 3.5e for Mac has been made freeware by Corel, and can be downloaded here http://main.system7today.com/software/wordperfect/wordperfect.html . It is a great, free alternative to Microsoft Word!

  • I knew there was a reason I didn't really want to upgrade, but I did & now the FF15 won't display the htm which my old version did perfectly

Actually it does display the page, but it doesn't display some of the elements which 3.6 did perfectly & even lowly old IE9 still does
Where do I post the 2 screenshots? - the 1 of IE9? & the other of FF15? - which, it should be obvious, isn't displaying the blue lines down the sides

    cor-el wrote:
Do you know what (CSS) code is responsible for those lines?
After you asked your question, I did some experimentation by varying
the size of the jpg displaying the long blue bar
& came to a startling conclusion
FF15 has changed its ability to display jpgs, if said jpg is even slightly greater
than 30K on its long (vertical) side
You see, the blue bar isn't generated by FF - it's an independent 8x35Kblubx.jpg,
an 8 x 35,000 pixel blue line, which was custom created in a drawing prg
I can send you the file if you want to see it, but the bottom line is,
the old version of FF used to display it perfectly & in virtually any paint type
or jpg display prg (preferably such as IrfanView or ACDSee etc),
it still will, but NOW, in FF15 it doesn't work
Thus whoever's responsible for finalizing the code at Mozilla/FF (whether it's a committee
or a person making a decision for a committee), they've decided some type of jpgs
just won't display, if they're greater than some arbitrary # of pixels
    on its long (vertical) side
So, here it is ; even FF15 runs the HTM perfectly, *if* I restrict the 8x35Kblubox.jpg
to its shorter `brother', which is 8x30Kblubox.jpg
Why 30K is acceptable to FF15, but even 30.5K or certainly 34K isn't,
is completely upto whoever's responsible for deciding what will display on FF15
All right, why the change? - Even IE9 still displays the 35Kblubox
& all the way upto 60K & maybe more (I decided 60K was as big as I'd need
at the time they were created), but FF15 jams out at 30.5!
Clearly it's a FF15 `issue' & should be restored to its former ability to run at least 60K
pixel or greater jpgs (along the long upright edge)

You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Firefox 3.6 is still supported but I don't know how long for.

Your gem compilation hit known upstream bug https://github.com/ruby-gnome2/ruby-gnome2/issues/361 Here is a patch that fixes ruby-glib2 https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … ruby-glib2 I do not know if ruby-gtk3 should be patched or not (most likely not).
To fix "gem exists in filesystem" error you need to remove all the gems installed globally (to /usr/...). The best way is to use lostfiles package from AUR.

Meanwhile, I'm down to 13 days till it stops working due to not being activated. HELP?  I really need to continue using this product for my home business. It works fine not activated but the threat is that it will stop working in 13 more days if I don't get it activated, and none of the activation methods they list seem to work.

  • IMac intel running 10.9.2 upgraded pages last week, now the machine tells me I need a new version of pages to open documents.  Old version of pages is still in the dock, new version is in applications.  How do I make this thing work?  Thanks

This is frustrating, after going thru the process of updating last week and using pages successfully this machine now tells me the updated version is not the newest.  So I went to the app store to buy the new version and it tells me the new version is already installed.  Most likely the problem is because the old version is still in the dock.  I would think that the upgrade would have taken care of that for me.  So how do I get rid of the old version and make the new version my default?  Step by step please as I am not Mac literate even thought I've had this machine for over 3 years, it's still a foreign country to me.  Thanks SamO66

The icon in the Dock is nothing but an alias pointing to the actual application in the Applications/iWork folder.
Pulling it off the dock really does nothing. Particularly, as you will soon discover, it is the new Pages that is the problem.

  • [Solved] Ruby - Gem bundle install no longer works

    Hi,
I am new to Linux, Arch and Ruby.
About 3 days ago I installed Arch on my virtualbox.
After I was happy with my installation (openbox as WM) I installed ruby.
I was able to install a project (Gemfile) using the command:
gem bundle install (from the terminal)
(That was after installing the bundle gem from within ruby: gem install bundle)
Today, after updating my Arch system, I had to install that project again (for reasons related to the project), and I cannot.
    I write in the terminal:
    gem bundle install
    and get:
ERROR:  While executing gem ... (RuntimeError)
        Unknown command bundle
I searched the forums, but there's nothing relevant that I could find.
    Can someone help?
    Edit:
After more tries and searches I have found:
    1. This has nothing to do with the Arch update as I feared.
    2. The command to run is "bundle install" not as I initially did.
    Apologies for cluttering the forum.

    Hi mavenik,
Whilst it is not the best way to do it, the following worked for me
    1) install gcc44 from AUR (you can probably use gcc45 too). If you are not sure how to do that please search the forums for installing from Aur or Aur wrappers (I use packer)
    packer -S gcc44.
    2) After it is installed temporarily rename your current gcc (4.7.x)
    sudo mv /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc4.7
    3) create a symlink to gcc4.4.x
    sudo ln -s /opt/gcc-4.4/gcc /usr/bin/gcc
    Test gcc version by doing
    gcc --version
It should say 4.4.6 or similar
    4) install ruby1.8 or ruby-enterprise from Aur (if this is required for redmine)
    packer -S ruby-enterprise
ruby will now be compiled using an older version of gcc and gems will install correctly.
    5) delete the symlink
    sudo unlink /usr/bin/gcc
    6) rename gcc4.7 back to gcc
    sudo mv /usr/bin/gcc4.7
Test the version again to make sure it has reverted.
Please note the proper way to do this would be to set ruby1.8 / ruby-enterprise to compile with the older gcc by setting CC in the pkgbuild.
I'm not sure how to do that (had no luck) so the hacky solution above worked for me.
Please check each command above before you use it to make sure it is safe and valid for you.
    Enjoy !
You should be able to compile with the older gcc by putting CC=/path/to/your/compiler right before "make", like so:
    CC=/opt/gcc-4.4/gcc make
YEAH! I got it working!  Here's what I did: install "gcc45" from the AUR, then compile ruby-enterprise by downloading the AUR package and running:
    CC=gcc-4.5 makepkg
... then install the package.  IT WORKS!

I've managed to get back to Pages 4.3 on my iMac and delete the downgrade Pages 5, which makes a total mess of photo-rich documents prepared with Facing Pages (most of mine),  but how to I get back to the old version of Pages on my iPad so that I can work on sections away from home. At least on my old PC, Word maintained compatability with old versions. Beginning to regret having switched.

Thanks for your help. What is really irritating is that Apple give a big hurray about what they have added as "new"  in Pages 5 (most of it pretty useless) without telling you of the myriad things they have deleted.  If they had shown the list your gave the link to, I doubt may regular users would risked going to Mavericks with its auto upgrade. My partner got the message in time and is sticking with the earlier operating systems and Pages on Mac and iPad. Lucky girl.
I have found a way to use my iPad to add chapters written while on the move to reports on my iMac Pages 4.3. If I write it on the new Pages on the iMac (don't seem to be able to revert there), the send the report as an email in WORD format (not Pages) and download it in the Text Editor, then cut and paste into the story on the iMac. Hardly elegant but it works.

My old version and all my bookmarks have been deleted and now my Mac says it doesn't support Firefox!!!!! How can I recuperate my old settings? in English

Firefox 4 versions and later '''do not run on a PowerPC Mac''' (like yours) and require '''at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac'''.
The latest supported version for your os is '''3.6.27''' , you can download it from:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    1. Download a 3.6.27 copy of the Firefox from the above link
    2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install.
    3. Install the new version that you have downloaded(3.6.27)
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so probably you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data, if you don't already ''totally'' uninstall firefox(user data and settings like bookmarks, extensions, etc. located here: ~Library/Application Support/Firefox so you must uninstall it separately, to totally uninstall firefox).
