Ruby one rails Web application

Hi, I have been working on setting up the ruby on rails application for web review that apple sent to my boss and I had some questions if people knew how to fix a few certain problems. I am not very proficient when it comes to ruby or rails, but I don't have the money to hire some one to do this for me, so I am trying to teach my self.
we are trying to get it to: -
[Priority 1] Can we convert the QT served files to be streamed rather than 'wait while downloading"? If we can't stream, we need a progress bar to track the download pace.
- [Priority 2] Web-based upload tool
- [Priority 3] Who/When an event happens: specifically, who approved the clip & when (on the website)?
- [Priority 4] Clip length displayed next to the clips.
- [Prpriority 5]simple log in and password
I know this is a lot to ask and I am not asking any one to go out of there way to figure anything out, just if any one know any reading material or tutorials and can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
thank you

Unless you want to learn and support a Ruby on Rails application like the one you are trying to implement, which will work, but will never be officially supported by Apple.
I would recommend you take a look at services like:
Media Silo
http://www.mediasilo.com/fcs
Wiredrive
http://www.wiredrive.com
They do very excellent jobs of offering Robust review and approval workflows.

  • How do I live preview a Ruby on Rails/Ember application?

    I have a Ruby on Rails application and I am under the impression that Edge Code will work with locally hosted web servers to use live preview. I have set up the project settings to use the locally hosted address: http://localhost:3000/ ... However when I use Live Preview I receive the following error.
    "Open an HTML file or make sure there is an index.html file in your project in order to launch live preview."
    I have done so and I meet the criteria but it doesn't seem to work. Does Adobe Edge Code support this feature?

    What's the file extension of the page you want to view in Live Preview? You may need to add it to the internal (not yet easily configurable) list of file extensions.

  • Ruby on Rails - Web Server 7

    We have followed the instructions below to set up RoR on Web Server 7
    http://developers.sun.com/webtier/reference/techart/rubyonrails.html
    But we are getting the following error when trying to connect to the application:
    [15/Feb/2008:15:32:50] failure ( 6136): for host trying to GET /dispatch.fcgi/hello/sayhello while trying to GET /hello/sayhello, responder-fastcgi reports:
    FCGI1010: could not change the working directory of the application process
    I confirmed the location of the application against what we put in obj.conf. It resides in a user directory, but I have set the permissions to allow read write for the web server.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Sorry for the delay. I was on vacation.
    2) Commented out all the additions to obj.conf and then started adding
    them back till something failed.
    I get server errors. Can you post the exact error msgs (browser msg, errors log and Fastcgistub log) ?
    Since it appears (based on the comments) that this block of code is
    trying to re-write the URI I tried typing it in by hand but I probably have the syntax wrong.Yes, those rules are for re-writing the url. Basically, trying to prefix dispatch.fcgi to the URI.
    URI should be of the form "<controller>/<action>"
    I'm now beginning to suspect that my installation of fastcgi has a problem. Why do you think so ?
    Is it possible to tell me what the full translated URL should look like? I can enter that by hand and then
    check the log files to see what's going on. I tried http://localhost/dispatch.fcgi?comics/getComic
    No. Change it to http://localhost/dispatch.fcgi/comics/getComic
    Before this, remove <If> condition checks.
    but all I get back is a copy of the dispatch.fcgi file in the browser. That means, you don't have the following line in obj.conf !
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="/dispatch.fcgi/*" name="some-name"
    Can you post your obj.conf ?

  • How can I create a host name site collection when I have a 443 web application already created for App model?

    Hi all,
    I have a 2013 farm set up with the App model
    1 web application for path based site collection using host name
    1 web application with SSL (no host name)
    1 web application for mysite
    My business request is that  I need to migrate SSL enabled 2007 content to this farm and use host name site collections.  I tried to create one more web application for this without any luck (the 443 IIS folder is already used by another web application).
    I thought I bind the previous 443 web application with another IP address should be fine.  Seems like the IIS site is taken (https://server name:443) so it will not let me create one more.  How can I solve this problem so I can create the web application
    to host those host name site collections?  Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sally

    Hi Trevor,
    Thanks again for your quick reply.  I try the option 2 right after your post.  I use my front end server name for public URL (https://WFEName:443) and it fails again.  The error message is:
    The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\443 is already being used by another IIS Web Site.  Choose a different root directory for your new Web application.
    After reading more, I saw mix Hosted Name Site collection and Path-based site collection aren't recommended.  Unfortunately I already have Path-based site collection created with App model web application
    (the web application without host name) in my farm.  In my Option 2, that web application without host name is used for App routing.  This takes the root folder 443 which will not allow any other web application to use the same name again.
    Does that mean we can't create Host Named Site collection in the same farm?  Is there any configuration I need to check?
    Thanks again.

    Status code is $Data/Context/RequestResults/RequestResult["1"]/BasePageData/StatusCode$
    when i recived a alert it gave the Status code of the 1st Request
    hence i changed the same as
    Status code is $Data/Context/RequestResults/RequestResult["12"]/BasePageData/StatusCode$
    But still i am facing the same issue .
    My first request shows me a status code of 200, and my 12th Request comes with 500 but in the alert i get 200 but it should be 500.
    Kindly help me in how i can get the Status code for the multiple  Request.
    Regards

    Hi Sriram,
    Please run the test of your 12th Request, view full result and check if Status Code is 200.
    Meanwhile, you can run the URL manually to check the result.

  • [SOLVED]Ruby on Rails won't run with apache/passenger

    Hi I want to run Redmine, a Ruby on Rails application, on a personal server using MariaDB as the database and Apache with the Phusion Passenger module as the application platform. So far I am able to run Redmine with the default WeBrick server, but if I try to run it via Apache (http://192.168.1.5/redmine) I just get the directory index of  /usr/share/webapps/redmine. I've been running various php webapps using this apache installation without issues but my unfamiliarity with Ruby on Rails makes me unsure how to fix this. If I create a Ruby on Rails test  application as described at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ru … figuration I get the same issue.
    Using the arch wiki articles on Ruby on Rails and Redmine, This is basically how I installed things:
    $ yaourt -S ruby1.9 rubygems1.9 nodejs redmine
    # gem-1.9 install rails
    # gem-1.9 install passenger
    /opt/ruby-1-9/ and subfolders ended up having no read/exexute permissions for 'other', probably because of my umask settings, so I changed the permissions, also because apache runs as user/group 'apache'.
    Ran the script that installs the passenger apache module:
    # /opt/ruby1.9/bin/passenger-install-apache2-module
    added to httpd.conf:
    LoadModule passenger_module /opt/ruby1.9/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-4.0.5/libout/apache2/mod_passenger.so
    PassengerRoot /opt/ruby1.9/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-4.0.5
    PassengerDefaultRuby /opt/ruby1.9/bin/ruby
    ServerName arch-server
    DocumentRoot /usr/share/webapps
    <Directory "/usr/share/webapps">
    # This relaxes Apache security settings.
    AllowOverride all
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    # MultiViews must be turned off.
    Options -MultiViews
    </Directory>
    I checked if the passenger module is loaded, and judging from /var/log/httpd/error_log that seems the case:
    [ 2013-07-03 22:52:22.8947 28902/b7407700 agents/Watchdog/Main.cpp:440 ]: Options: { 'analytics_log_user' => 'nobody', 'default_group' => 'nobody', 'default_python' => 'python', 'default_ruby' => '/opt/ruby1.9/bin/ruby', 'default_user' => 'nobody', 'log_level' => '0', 'max_instances_per_app' => '0', 'max_pool_size' => '6', 'passenger_root' => '/opt/ruby1.9/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-4.0.5', 'pool_idle_time' => '300', 'temp_dir' => '/tmp', 'union_station_gateway_address' => 'gateway.unionstationapp.com', 'union_station_gateway_port' => '443', 'user_switching' => 'true', 'web_server_pid' => '28901', 'web_server_type' => 'apache', 'web_server_worker_gid' => '1001', 'web_server_worker_uid' => '1006' }

    'apachectl configtest' gives 'Syntax OK'.
    I followed the wiki on redmine (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Redmine), chose to use "bundle install" to install the required gems with only a 'production' environment. What worried me is that those gems are now in /root/.gems while the webserver runs as user 'apache'.
    I can run Redmine at 192.168.1.5:3000 without errors using:
    # ruby script/rails server webrick -e production
    But if I kill it and try via apache http://192.168.1.5/redmine I get a directory content listing.

    Thanks markocz, my use of sub-url was indeed the problem. With help from the linked article I did the following:
    # mkdir /usr/share/webapps/phusion-passenger/
    # ln -s /usr/share/webapps/redmine/public /usr/share/webapps/phusion-passenger/redmine
    # chown -R root:http /usr/share/webapps/
    # chmod -R g+rx /usr/share/webapps/
    httpd.conf now looks like this:
    LoadModule passenger_module /opt/ruby1.9/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-4.0.5/libout/apache2/mod_passenger.so
    PassengerRoot /opt/ruby1.9/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-4.0.5
    PassengerDefaultRuby /opt/ruby1.9/bin/ruby
    ServerName arch-server
    DocumentRoot /usr/share/webapps/phusion-passenger
    <Directory "/usr/share/webapps/phusion-passenger">
    # This relaxes Apache security settings.
    AllowOverride all
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    # MultiViews must be turned off.
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    </Directory>
    RailsBaseURI /redmine
    <Directory "/usr/share/webapps/phusion-passenger/redmine">
    Options -MultiViews
    </Directory>
    Redmine now works via passenger.

  • Deployment of multiple ruby on rails application

    Hi everyone,
    I am on Mac OS X Server 10.5.4
    I try to deploy a few rails application on the same server. Each app should be accessible like this:
    http://my.domain.com/app1/
    http://my.domain.com/app2/
    http://my.domain.com/app3/
    etc...
    I followed the "Scenario 2 - Sharing a Website (Virtual Host) with the Proxied Web Application" found in the chapter 6 (p.97) of the Web Technologies Administration booklet and succesfully deployed my first application, running on port 4001 and accessible through http://my.domain.com/app1/.
    I also managed to deploy the second application, running on port 4002, and accessible from http://my.domain.com:4002/app2/ but I am unable to directly access it from http://my.domain.com/app2/, I get a 404 error.
    When I swap the applications order in the website list in Web>Sites, the first one appearing in the list is working and not the second one...
    It is probably something stupid, but how can I access all my apps on their own path?
    In advance, thank you for helping me,
    Yannis

    Hi Harry, and thank you so much for taking of your time for my problem.
    After your last message, I launched one mongrelrailspersist server for each of my app:
    app1:
    prefix: /app1
    cwd: ~/capistrano/app1/current
    port: 4001
    app2:
    prefix: /app2
    cwd: ~/capistrano/app2/current
    port: 4002
    Then I set up the reverse proxy for app1 using proxy path /app1/ and balancer member http://127.0.0.1:4001/app1/ and edited the app1.conf file of my first app (app1) following your suggestion:
    <IfModule modproxybalancer.c>
    ProxyPass /app1/ balancer://balancer-group/
    ProxyPassReverse /app1/ balancer://balancer-group/
    <Proxy "balancer://balancer-group">
    BalancerMember http://127.0.0.1:4001/app1
    </Proxy>
    <Proxy "balancer://balancer-group">
    BalancerMember http://127.0.0.1:4002/app2
    </Proxy>
    </IfModule>
    Unfortunately, this is not enough, the server seems confused and hardly access app1 and not at all app2.
    I found the following blog post that discuss the same problem: http://tonyrose023.blogspot.com/2007/01/multiple-rails-apps-with-mongrel.html
    In his post, Tony Rose add a few RewriteCond: I tried to change the mod_rewrite declaration of the app1.conf file like the following but that did not work either...
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^TRACE
    RewriteRule .* - [F]
    RewriteCond %{DOCUMENTROOT}%{REQUESTFILENAME} !-f
    RewriteRule ^/app1(.*)$ balancer://app1%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L]
    RewriteRule ^/app2(.*)$ balancer://app2%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L]
    </IfModule>
    I'm stuck again. Any suggestion?

  • How does Azure Compute Emulator (or the Azure one) determine if a role is web project or something else ("The Web Role in question doesn't seem to be a web application type project")?

    I'm not sure if this is F# specific or something else, but what could cause the following error message when trying to debug locally an Azure cloud service:
    The Web Role in question doesn't seem to be a web application type project.
    I added an empty F# web api Project to a solution (which adds Global.asax etc., I added an OWIN startup class Startup etc.) and then from an existing
    cloud service project I picked Roles and
    chose Add
    -> Web Role Project in solution, which finds the F# web project (its project type guids are 349C5851-65DF-11DA-9384-00065B846F21 and F2A71F9B-5D33-465A-A702-920D77279786),
    of which the first one seem to be exactly the GUID that defines a web application type.
    However, when I try to start the cloud project locally, I get the aforementioned error message. I have a C# Web Role project that will start when I remove the F# project. I also have F# worker
    role projects that start with the C# web role project if I remove this F# web role project. If I set the F# web project as a startup project,
    it starts and runs as one would expect, normally.
    Now, it makes me wonder if this is something with F# or could this error message appears in C# too, but I didn't find anything on Google. What kind of checks are there when starting the emulator and which one needs
    failing to prompt the aforementioned message? Can anyone shed light into this?
    Sudet ulvovat -- karavaani kulkee

    Sudet,
    Yeah you are right, the GUID mentioned seems to be correct and the first one i.e. {349C5851-65DF-11DA-9384-00065B846F21} means the web application project which compute emulator uses to determine while spawning up role instances.
    You might want to compare the csproj of your C# and F# web projects which might give some pointers.
    Are you able to run your F# web project locally in IIS? If yes then you will definitely be able to run it on azure so I will recommend to test it in IIS Express first.
    Here are some other tips which you can refer or see If you are yet to do those settings
    1. Turn on the IIS Express - You can do it by navigating to project properties
    2. Install Dependent ASP.NET NuGets / Web Api dependencies (If there are any missing), Reference System.Web assembly
    Also I will suggest to refer this nice article about how to create a F# web Api project
    http://blog.ploeh.dk/2013/08/23/how-to-create-a-pure-f-aspnet-web-api-project/
    Hope this helps you.

  • Secure and non-secure access to the web application in one war

    Say we have one web application (in one war) which includes JSP, servlets and the security intercepter. There is one business requirement to have most of the JSP(s) accessed via HTTPS, but a few JSP(S) accessed via HTTP.
    My questions are:
    a. Is this possible, or a reasonable requirement or a good practice?
    b. if yes, what can we do to make it happen in the security intercepter implementation?
    c. If not, what is the technical reasons?
    Thanks much.

    a) Yes its is reasonable and good practive, there is an overhead using https, so you should only encrypt file you need to. When you use an online store, only account details / payments are https, the shop itself is http
    b) I dont really understand your difficulty. You can define a folder as 'secure' and put all your secure pages in this folder, leaving non secure files in a different folder. Whenever a page in the secure folder is accessed, https is automatically invoked.

  • One Search service application for multiple web applications in a single server

      We are planning to host 17 Web applications in a single Server. Do I need to create search service application for each web application or I need to create one  Search service application , create a Content source for each web
    application and create a Result source for filtering. Which is the best approach. And which approach takes more RAM memory.
       In my application I am using Search web part, "Recently Changed Items", "Popular Items" web parts. when I created only one one  Search Service application for all web applications and using Result sources ,
    I am not getting the results. What could be the problem.

    Hi,
    One SSA is ok, but you should think about access rights. If the access is clear cut between all the web apps you should be ok with one SSA. Multiple result sources limiting on content source also works, but could easily be bypassed.
    Multiple SSA's will eat up RAM/CPU like a mother :)
    As for popular etc.. it could be due to how those sources are set up, but haven't investigated or tested this much.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Is it possible to run Office Web Application Server (shows preview images for docs and allows Notepad, Word, Excel to work etc) on one of the SharePoint 2013 App Servers. I don't want to have to create a new server. It talks about setting
    up a farm.
    Better still how the feck do you switch this functionlity off - I always remember it being a pain in the arse. We accidentally ran the first part of the configuration on one of the SharePoint App Servers only to find out our subscription does not
    have this download (bar stewards changed this Nov 2014 - just after started contract).
    Help would be much appreciated as close to go live
    Thanks.

    Hi John,
    Please reboot the server at the very beginning and test the issue again.
    Quote from you:

    It just install some windows feature to the current server, we can find it should be done before installing several server products.
    Could you please verify if the command you executed is the same as the one above?
    You could also go to local disk and check if there is OfficeWebApps folder under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\?
    If you check in Control Panel > Programs, is there any feature related to Office Web Apps?
    If you have confirmed there is no Office Web Apps feature installed, please go to SharePoint document library settings, and make the document to open in client, does it work?

  • Office Web Apps - how to disable office web apps features for one web application

    ENV: Sharepoint 2010 farm with office web apps + fast search
    I have the requirement for one web application to open all its documents in client applications - I can enable feature "OpenInClient". This web application uses team site template and other web application also uses team site template. ( feature
    stapling ruled out)  Now I can run powershell cmdlet to enable this feature on all the currently existing site collections. But the requirement is to enable this feature for all the future site collections. This web applications has 60 k site collections
    and atleast more than 10 site collections get created each day and they dont like the option to run a powershell script each day to activate this solution.
    Is there any other way to by default activate new site collections on this WA to open in client applications by default (can we disable this office webapps features only on one web app)?

    I have learnt from this forum that it is not possible to turn off Office web apps on single web application. The line of control lies at farm level and then at site collection.

    You're getting that probably because the WL instance was not shut down properly.
    If that's the case, you'll need to remove an ldap lock file (with a .lok extension) in the directory of ldap files (under the server dir) .

  • Deploying a web application on Sun One app server 7

    Hi,
    I am not able to deploy a web application on sun one server using Sun java studio.
    I have created Jsp, Servlet, Session bean and entity bean.
    When I am creating a web_module in the directory where JSP are kept, it is giving me error "directory is already mounted.
    I have already created EJB modules for both the Session and entity bean.
    Can some one tell me the cause / solution of this problem.

    Hi Amol,
    Thank you very much for replying my question. The contents in my application.xml are:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE application PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD J2EE Application 1.3//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/application_1_3.dtd">
    <application>
    <display-name>testwsapp</display-name>
    <description>J2EE Application testwsapp</description>
    <module>
    <web>
    <web-uri>testws_War.war</web-uri>
    <context-root>testws</context-root>
    </web>
    <alt-dd>testws_War.xml</alt-dd>
    </module>
    </application>
    The contents in jaxrpc-ri-runtime.xml are:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <endpoints xmlns='http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jax-rpc/ri/runtime' version='1.0'>
    <endpoint
    name='testws'
    interface='contactws.testwsGenServer.testwsRPC'
    implementation='contactws.testwsGenServer.testwsRPCBean'
    tie='contactws.testwsGenServer.testwsRPC_Tie'
    model='null'
    wsdl='/WEB-INF/testws.wsdl'
    service='{urn:testws/wsdl}Testws'
    port='{urn:testws/wsdl}testwsRPCPort'
    urlpattern='/testws'
    </endpoint></endpoints>
    I tried to access and check the web service using:
    http://servername:port/testws/testws
    The first testws is contextroot named and the second testws is url pattern, which was exactly like what you mentioned but I got "404 Not Found" error.
    By the way, using the same ear to deploy to Windows Sun ONE App. Server 7 env. and then using the same url, I can access the web service. I am wondering if there is any special for deploying Web Service on Unix Sun ONE app. Server 7 env. or I missed something?
    I hope I can hear from you soon.
    Thank you again,
    Jackie
