Run a procedure server-side?

hi all,
how do i execute a procedure (which takes a very long time to run) server-side? since this procedures takes a long time, i want it to continuously run and finish even if i close and shutdown the client machine that invoked it.
thanks
allen

hi,
thanks for the replies.
actually this is kinda like an end of day or end of month procedure so naturally it would take a long time which is understandable.
i'll check out the job option. although if there are still some other options, i'm willing to listen.
thanks.

    This means that you can create shared classes that are used on both the client and server side. The source does not need to reside within the server (according to their documentation). So if you're coding a shared class that is to run on both the client and server side, you might do something like this:
    Connection conn =
    DriverManager.getConnection(
    System.getProperty("oracle.server.version") == null
    ? "jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:1521:ORCL"
    : "jdbc:oracle:kprb:"),
    "youruserid","yourpassword");

  • Needs a background webdynpro application running at the server side

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement wherein we need to have an application running all the time at the server side to capture the response coming from a web application. Based on the response that the application receives, it needs to update some backend R/3 tables.
    We are thinking of a webdynpro java application.
    Can anyone suggest what kind of application needs to be implemented here?
    And what  would be the steps required to run the application at the server side without calling the application.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anurag

    Hi Robin,
    Thanks for the detailed explaination.
    This may sound silly to you but I've another doubt which is as follows:
    As you mentioned that the external web application will be sending requests to our Web service(in SOAP envelopes) and rest of the functionality can be  achieved by our web service.
    Actually, we are expecting only responses from the external web application. The thing is that we are sending the requests to the external web applications from our custom webdynpro application and in return the web application will be sending us 2 responses.
    First response would be back to our WD java application URL(to the browser in which WD java app is running) which would get the response and display some message based on the response.
    Second would be to this web service which you have just suggested. We are having two responses so that even if the browser in which the WD java application is running gets accidentally closed, the response from the external web application must get captured somewhere else and should not get lost in any case.
    So, now since we are only expecting the response from the web application and we do not want any requests from the web application to our web service; how is this possible?
    I am asking the above question because you have mentioned that the external web application has to request our Web service but we want is only this web service to capture the response coming from the Web application.
    Or is it like the web application will send us the response string as request string to our Web Service and the web service will capture these response parameters as request parameters from the web application and do the further processing.
    But in that case, we do not want any response to be sent by the Web Service to the external web application.
    Please suggest if this is possible.
    Once again, many thanks for the help so far.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anurag

  • How to run database procedure in oracle form

    Hi,
    I have created a database procedure, it run successfully at server side, but I need to run it on oracle form, how I'll do ?
    Thanks
    Baloch

    Baloch,
    Essentially, you call your database stored procedure the same way in Forms as you do in SQL Plus. The difference is that you need to call the procedure in a Forms Trigger versus a SQLPLus prompt. The Forms user must have execute privileges to the stored procedure as well. The Forms trigger depends on when and where you need the procedure to run. For example, if you need the procedure run in conjunction with a button pressed in your form, you would code your When-Button-Pressed trigger to call the stored procedure. If the db user is different fro.m the Forms user, make sure you fully qualify the call to the procedure.
    Here is a small code sample to demonstrate:
    /* Sample When-Button-Pressed trigger */
    BEGIN
       IF <Condition is true> THEN
          /* Call Database procedure */
          SCHEMA.PROCEDURE_NAME(<any procedure parameters here>);
       END IF;
    END;This is a very basic example, but it should make the concept clear. ;)
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • Headstart Server Side Installation

    Hello,
    We want to use Designer 6i with Headstart 1.2.1 patch 10 to 13.
    I know that you have to migrate the applications (incl. QMS) with the repository of Designer 6. For this migration I use a separate PC.
    On the other PC we have installed Designer 6i with an oracle 8.1.7 database (Unix).
    Know I want to install the Headstart Server Side installation for Designer 6i.
    After the installation i find a lot of errors in the insthsu.log. The first error is that the ci_application_systems view doesn't have a version column. I found out that the ci_application_systems of 6 not the same is as the ci_application_systems of 6i.
    Wat are we doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Leon

    Leon,
    You are trying to run the Headstart Server Side Installer of Headstart 2.1 against a Designer 6i Repository. This is not possible, because the Repository meta model has changed considerably in 6i.
    Patch 13 allows you to use the Headstart 2.1 Template Package with Designer 6i, but it does not allow you to use the Headstart 2.1 Utilities with 6i. For that you need Headstart 6i, which is currently in Beta. If you have an Oracle consultant who is experienced with Headstart on site, you can join the Beta program. Contact your Oracle Consulting representative for more details.
    kind regards,

  • Calling server side procedures from forms

    Hi
    I am trying to add a server side procedure to a form. The procedure is held in a package which resides on a remote database and I have set-up database links to this database.
    When I run the form, calling the procedure, the oracle forms runtime session closes without displaying any error messages.
    I have successfully called the procedure from database triggers in different databases.
    Does anyone know whats going on?
    I am using forms 5.0 with a oracle 7.3 database
    Thanks!!

  • Is there a way to dynamically determine the number of out parameters for a server side procedure?

    Hi,
    Below is a helper method used for calling a server-side function which loops through the inbound bindVars parameter to populate the function's IN parameters. Is there a way to dynamically determine the IN/OUT parameters based on the procedure name in the stmt parameter? No members of the CallableStatement class seemed promising, but the getParameterMetaData() method in the PreparedStatement class seemed like it could be helpful lead. However, I have not found any detailed descriptions (yet) of how to use it.
    protected Object callStoredFunction(int sqlReturnType, String stmt,
      Object[] bindVars) {
      CallableStatement st = null;
      try {
      // 1. Create a JDBC CallabledStatement
      st = getDBTransaction().createCallableStatement(
      "begin ? := "+stmt+";end;",0);
      // 2. Register the first bind variable for the return value
      st.registerOutParameter(1, sqlReturnType);
      if (bindVars != null) {
      // 3. Loop over values for the bind variables passed in, if any
      for (int z = 0; z < bindVars.length; z++) {
      // 4. Set the value of user-supplied bind vars in the stmt
      st.setObject(z + 2, bindVars[z]);
      // 5. Set the value of user-supplied bind vars in the stmt
      st.executeUpdate();
      // 6. Return the value of the first bind variable
      return st.getObject(1);
      catch (SQLException e) {
      throw new JboException(e);
      finally {
      if (st != null) {
      try {
      // 7. Close the statement
      st.close();
      catch (SQLException e) {}
    James

    The PreparedStatement.getParameterMetaData() object is exactly what you need for this task.
    Once you have the ParameterMetaData you can ask it how many parameters are present and which mode they are. The parameters are numbered from 1 to n and you can use ParameterMetaData.getParameterMode(1); to get the mode of the 1st parameter. The modes are defined as static values in the ParameterMetaData object. Check out the doc at http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/sql/ParameterMetaData.html

  • Running server side methods prior to applet launch

    Hi all,
    I have recently become involved in the JSP world. My question is this:
    How can I get a server-side process to run prior to the launcing/running of an applet that must also be present on the page? Is there a way to force an order of execution within a JSP?
    Due to the nature of the code, it is impossible for me to create a secondary page that runs the server side process prior to being redirected to a page containing the applet.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks from a newbie!

  • OWB 9.2.0.2.8 Server Side Install Run Time Assistant Components

    Hi all,
    I have Oracle 9.2. on a Solaris/ Sun server.
    I have installed OWB 9.2.0.2.8 on the client desktop running WinXP.
    After installing the Design Repository I was installing the Run Time assistant when I had the INS0034 error, requiring that server side components be installed first. So after going back to the installer I used the "Install Server Side option" which actually installed software to my windows Oracle home ??? After that still had the INS0034 error.
    My question is. Do I need to use the OWB for Solaris disk and access the Sun server console to install the server side components ? I'm confused as I already have the OWB disk for Windows which is where I would like to install the client.
    So not sure where to from here.
    Get Solaris version of OWB and install on Sun Server ? Or have I missed an obvious option with the Windows install disk ?
    Any help would be appreciated ... Project is stalled at this point.
    Regards
    Nick

    Hi Nick,
    We have a similar configuration on my project. You will need to use the OWB for solaris disk if you intend to use OWB to deploy any object or run any mappings. OWB will need to be installed on any Sun server that you will be deploying your warehouse to (not necessarily where the OWB design repository is).
    Run the installation from the Sun server console and choose the "Install Sun Server Side option". Once installed, you will also need to run the Runtime Assistant from the server console. Select the option to install the Runtime Repository. This ensure that the Runtime Platform Service is running. Without that you'll have trouble running the Deployment Manager.
    Check out sections 2.5 and 2.6 of the Installation and Configuration guide for more details.
    Cheers

  • SQL Procedure working when run manually, not running from sql server agent

    I have a procedure that runs fine using the execute command in SSMS, however putting the same command in a job gives the following error.
    line 9, character 9, unexpected end of input
    The code takes a very long XML string in UTF-8 encoding and puts it into a single nvarchar(max) cell. Then puts this string into a XML cell in a different table, allowing me to query the individual parts of the XML code using the nodes function. I cannot put
    the data directly into a nvarchar cell due to encoding differences.
    I can't reproduce the string here as it is very very long.
    I'm just looking for ideas really as to where it might be going wrong.
    Here is what I know so far:
    The procedure runs without issue when executed manually
    I have checked permission issues, and that doesn't seem to be the problem. The agent runs under my own account and I am a sysadmin on the database
    I split the procedure into seperate parts to locate exactly where the problem is occuring. Once again the seperate procedures run fine when executed manually but an error occurs when run through SQL Server agent.
    When the query is run seperately through SQL Server Agent it gives a slightly different error. This leads me to believe it is an encoding issue. However I am getting the XML from a webpage and I can't change the encoding on the webpage.
    line 1, character 38, unable to switch the encoding
    I know this is a long shot since you can't replicate the issue but if anyone could give an idea as to where to start looking for an answer, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Here's how I'm taking the XML data and putting it into an nvarchar(max) column (Column Name TEXT):
    Select @url = 'http://....'
    EXEC @hr=sp_OACreate 'WinHttp.WinHttpRequest.5.1',@win OUT
    IF @hr <> 0 EXEC sp_OAGetErrorInfo @win
    EXEC @hr=sp_OAMethod @win, 'Open',NULL,'GET',@url,'false'
    IF @hr <> 0 EXEC sp_OAGetErrorInfo @win
    EXEC @hr=sp_OAMethod @win,'Send'
    IF @hr <> 0 EXEC sp_OAGetErrorInfo @win
    INSERT #TextData(TEXT)
    EXEC @hr=sp_OAGetProperty @win,'ResponseText'
    IF @hr <> 0 EXEC sp_OAGetErrorInfo @win

    How is Oracle connecting to the SQL Server?
    With the Transparent Gateway or Generic Connectivity?
    I don't think that Generic Connectivity supports stored procedures.
    The documentation for Heterogeneous Connectivity is here:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14232/toc.htm
    You'd probably get better answers from the Heterogeneous Connectivity forum:

  • Server side script not running on stand-alone XE

    Hello,
    In my application I created a Server side script (AJAX) which presents a select-list based on other fields on the page. The very same application runs on a 10g+APEX3.0.1 database AND on a standard XE+APEX2.1 database, which are both accessed via a HTTP-server. The application with the script runs fine on this platform (XP).
    I have two other XP-machines on which I also installed XE+APEX2.1. Both are stand-alone versions NOT accessed via a HTTP-server. I installed exactly the same application which runs on the platform with HTTP server on both of the machines. While testing the correct functioning, I noticed that everything works ok, EXCEPT the server side script which gives me a better select list. Instead of this I get the old-fashioned version of the select-list which is not able to use the value elsewhere on the page.
    I found a similar problem on the XE forum (Re: Server side scripts features ) but it doesn't answer my question how to get the script working on a standalone version of XE (= without access via a HTTP-server).
    Can anybody please help me?
    Thanks & regards,
    Jan.

    Carl,
    Thanks for your suggestion to install FireFox and the Firebug tool (which I wasn't aware of).
    After having looked at the problem for hours, I found what I think is the problem: the htmldb_html_elements.js script.
    As already mentioned, the properly functioning XE on my local PC is accessed via a HTTP-server, as well as the 10gR2+APEX3.0.1 version also running on that PC.
    On the laptop, not running HTTP-server, I get the message: <br>
    <FONT COLOR="RED">$x is not defined <BR>
    <FONT COLOR="BLUE"> f_21_select_kpn<FONT COLOR="RED">(<FONT COLOR="BLUE">input<FONT COLOR="BLACK">#P21_GBREKNR 405<FONT COLOR="RED">, "P21_KOSTENPOST") <BR>
    <FONT COLOR="BLUE">onblur<FONT COLOR="RED">(<FONT COLOR="BLACK">blur <FONT COLOR="RED">)
    </FONT><BR>
    That is in the 'Console' of Firebug.
    When changing to Script I do see a remarkable difference.
    On the PC there the following text is found in the first lines of htmldb_html_elements.js:
    /*htmld_elements will contain the lower level html access js*/<br>
    var gDebug = true;<br>
    var gkeyPressTime;<br>
    var gLastTab=false;<br>
    var gRegex=false;<br>
    var ie=(document.all)?true:false;<br>
    if(ie){document.expando=true;}<br>
    var gDebugWindow = false;<br>
    /*<br>
    $x functions have to do with either single elements or array of elements<br>
    $v functions have to have to do with manipulating values or interaction based off a value<br>
    $xml function have to do with manipulating xml values<br>
    $a functions are based on ajax<br>
    $d functions are specific dhtml constructs<br>
    */<br>
    /* begin $x functions */<br>
    function $x(pNd){<br>
    try{<br>
    var node;<br>
    ...<br><br>
    On the laptop however the first few lines are:<br><br>
    /*htmld_elements will contain the lower level html access js*/<br>
    <br>
    var gDebug = true;<br>
    var gkeyPressTime;<br>
    var gLastTab=false;<br>
    var gRegex=false;<br>
    if(document.all){document.expando = true;}<br>
    // Elements //<br>
    <br>
    function html_GetElement(pNd){<br>
    try{<br>
    var node;<br>
    switch(typeof (pNd)){<br>
    ...<br><br>
    I think that the difference is in these two scripts.
    But why are the scripts different: it is the same XE that is installed on the laptop and the PC.<br>The answer I found in the images/javascript directory of APEX3.0.1 which is located in the APACHE directory-tree (you have to copy the images to APACHE when you use the HTTP-server). And indeed: the htmldb_html_elements.js has exactly the same text as what I see in Firebug on the PC. So XE on the PC is using the javascripts in the image-directory of APACHE on the PC and not the XE-version of the scripts, embedded in XE.
    <br><br>
    So the answer seems to be: copy the APEX3.0.1 versions of the script over to the PC and try to get them into the database. Or...???
    <br>
    Can it be loaded into the database? Will XE accept it?
    <BR><br>
    Would be nice to have answers if the conclusion I found is the right one and if it can be fixed by loading the js into XE.
    <br>
    Best regards and thanks for your help so far.

  • How to run the Server Side Existing rule in Exchange 2010

    Hi All,
    There were requirement to create a auto forward rule for almost more than 5000 users, which we did, but the we want to apply this rules to the messages which are already in the inbox for all those users where we have created the rule.
    Right now the problem what we are facing is for each individual we have to take full access to their mailbox and execute the rule first time and then it works.
    this is becoming challenging for us to making this for all 5000 users. the other problem is those user are not regularly login to this mailbox, they are using some other Org mailbox, so even we can not communicate to all of them.
    Q1) How to run the Server Side Command which should forcefully apply whatever rules is created for that user should execute for the messages which are already in the inbox.
    Q2) or the powershell for for specific rule name, which can apply on the for all the messages which are there in the inbox.
    Any help would be appriciated!
    Thanks in adv champions!
    Ashku

    Hi Ashku,
    If these 5000 users are all users in your Exchange organization, a inbox rule can be created by the following commands:
    Get-Mailbox | foreach {New-InboxRule -Mailbox $_.Name -Name AutoForward -From [email protected] -ForwardTo UserB}
    Based on my test, the Inbox rule created in server side also cannot work on the message that have already been in the Inbox unless users click “Run Rules Now…” in their Outlook client. And the transport rule in Exchange server only works
    during the message sending process.
    Therefore, there may be no feature in Exchange server side to meet your requirement.
    Thanks for your understanding.
