Java shouldn'T be patched "manually" but only using a full stack. Since only few parts of the kernel are used in an ABAP instance there's no need to patch e. g. "disp+work".
> The systems are running fine so far and after logging in to the ABAP stack it shows the current kernel level 200 ...
>
> However if we run the JSPM it still shows us the old kernel level 180 ...
yes - because the Java part doesn't "know" anything about single kernel patches but only stacks.
> What's wrong here ?
> How can we bring the JAVA Stack to a current level ?
There is no need to. The support stack on your Java and the installed kernel should match.
> We found a strange and older dispwork we couldn't execute using "dispwork -V" under
>
> /sapmnt/<SID>/exe/uc/rs6000_64
That is the "new" directory structure for kernels. Systems starting with 7.10 will use that structure. See
Note 1104735 - Upgrade to new instance-specific directory on UNIX
You may not be able to execute the dispwork since that part of the kernel relies on corresponding libraries (.o files). If you didn't change your SHLIB_PATH to that directory uc/rs6000_64 the startup of dispwork will read those in your normal kernel installation directory - which fails then.

  • To run and work on AIX server installed ODI

    Hi all,
As I was working on ODI till the date in window o/s of my desktop.
But now I have to work on AIX server I need to know
    * Is there any difference to work on ODI while I am using AIX
    plz provide me necessary information..
    * Will working methodology of Desiner and Topology manager be same in AIX
    * is it console based or I'll have the same UI I've not worked on AIX before
*Any other info, if you tech people have regarding basic differences between
Window installed ODI and AIX installed ODI then plz provide me.
    thanx and regards
    Palash Chatterjee

    Hello,
There should be no difference in behavior.
    - All Graphical UIs are in Java and work the same on AIX.
    - The installer works also on AIX.
    - The only differences will be that instead of having .bat script files, you'll have .sh (unix shell) files to start the components, and that you cannot use windows services.
Just give it a try, and you'll see.

  • Business objects XI v3 under Unix (AIX or Linux) a bad idea?

    Post Author: Ferry Harmusial
    CA Forum: Deployment
    Hello everybody,
We are planning to upgrade to Business Objects V3 with web-clients and the platform is not yet determined.
However, from a press release I understood that Linux support for Business Objects is relatively new (august 2005).
It has been suggested that Business Object support for Unix in general is not as good as Windows support.
I'm very interested to learn from your experience ....
    Kind Regards,
    Ferry H.

Just want to add to the original question that:
the directory (in the error stack from tomcat)
/apps/truecomp/BOXI31/bobje/tomcat/work/Catalina/localhost  is NOT even existing on the
AIX server which installed BO XI 3.1 SP2.
Would really appreciate any  comments on this problem, especially from SAP support team.
    We are really stuck here.
    Thanks.

  • Unix AIX Configuration Guidelines

Hello,I'm looking for guidelines and tips for setting up a Unix AIX server to run essbase 6.5.4. Unix block size, stripping, raid ....ThanksRex

You've probably already figured this out or simply moved on, but...I don't think there are any ESSBASE specific settings relating to DASD on AIX. When we installed ESSBASE on AIX we had our admin create a separate file system for each application to reduce the possibility of one database exploding in size, using all of the available DASD and crashing the entire system. We had to have the admins reconfigure the DASD when we found out that the original configuration didn't allow enough room for growth. This is really the key - the file systems must be configured to allow adding addition DASD on the fly without limit. Of course there's always limit eventually, but it should be set very high. I'm not an admin and don't hknow the specific settings but this is something the admins should know how to do. Jerry Ursetti

  • Pro COBOL / Precompile and run with Micro Focus Server Express in Unix AIX

I have Oracle 11g R2 DB and client installed in Unix AIX machine. I would like to make a simple test pgm to :
    1. the precompile using procob on the sample program
    2. compile it through Micro Focus Server Express
    3. run the sample
This sample pgm will just open a predefined Oracle DB, read and write a record to a table.
I see there is a demo_procob.mk file in precomp/demo/procob2. Not sure how to use it. Any help out would be helpful.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I think the examples are installed and that is the reason I see the sample1..10. I can do procob on the sample1.pco to convert it to a pure cobol pgm and then compile through microfocus server express. But I can't run it as it gave Load error: file 'sqladr'; error code 173, pc=0, call=1, seg=0 173 called program file not find in drive/directory.
Is this the right step and where can I find the sqladr and other modules?
should this be placed in the COBDIR or PATH?
Anything else I need to set?
    thanks.

    Why?

Your question is very vague. Are you running the client and the server on the same machine or not at least it seems so. Are you using UnicastRemoteObject, RemoteObject or Activatable for extension. Also post some of your code and settings only then would somebody be able to help u.

  • VI server runs slower under LV 7

Has anyone noticed VI server running slower under LabView 7 than 6.1?
I use a "Call By Reference Node" to programatically run a VI. This call seems to take at least a factor of three longer in LV 7 than 6.1. The code in each LV version is exactly the same.
    Attachments:
    call_mods.vi ‏48 KB

    Yes,
I have noticed that some of the functions of the VI Server as well as particular property nodes are a lot slower in LabVIEW 7 vs. LabVIEW 6. For instance, if you get the caption labels from a nested control (inside a cluster or array) it will take significantly longer than a regular control on the front panel. The further a control is buried, the longer it takes. I am not sure how to solve the problem though.

  • How to Communicate with Programs running on AIX server Using LabVIEW.

We have an IBM AIX server on which some programs are running  which basically perform some scientific calculations. I am required to send the inputs to the calculation from a VI on windows system and get back the results  on the VI.  I do not have any idea on how to do this.
But i heard that there is a tool ( not developed in LabVIEW) developed by my customer which can communicate with the AIX server thro Java Classes.
So i tried exploring APPLETVIEW which supports java and LabVIEW but i am confused.
Is there any way to achive this interfacing between AIX and LABVIEW?.
    Thanks
    Vilas G

    Hi Vilas,
How you may communicate with you AIX server may very greatly depending on what is running on your server.  Here is a link to another thread where Java calls and AppletView were discussed.  It contains a link to the company that makes AppletView, so it may have some good information for you.
Also, if your customer suggested you use AppletView and they developed it, they would probably be your best bet for explaining it to you.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problem with Oracle 8.1.7 Installation on UNIX AIX 4.3

    Hi,
I tried to install Oracle Enterprise Edition on UNIX AIX system. After all pre installation task, when I run the installer (./runInstaller) I have the following error message:
    java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using '192.168.0.150
:0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
Please help me to fix my problem
    Thanks
    Omer

Is the machine you're trying to install on the
machine your display is running on?
    If not, doing a
    'xhost + name_of_machine_you_are_installing_on'
on the machine your display is running on should do the
    trick.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks René van Wijk for the reply.
I have a foreign server created in my local server, where i have already given the provider URL. This foreign server has the one queue and one queue connection factory under it to which I'm referring to.
Under JNDI tree i noticed this, for the queue(NOTIFY_QUEUE) i'm trying to read from one of the EJB:
This page displays details about this bound object.
Failed to create InitialContext using factory specified in hashtable
Also,etc/hosts has already these IP entries. Even after hardcoding the provider URL its throwing following:
    <Jun 25, 2012 3:01:31 AM GMT+06:00> <Warning> <EJB> <BEA-010061> <The Message-Driven EJB: NotificationQueueAnonymousWaiter is unable to connect to the JMS destination: NOTIFY_QUEUE. The Error was:

  • How to run import from Unix Oracle 8.0.5 database with Windows Oracle client?

How to run import from Unix Oracle 8.0.5 database via network with Windows Oracle client? Is it possible? When I try to do it Oracle client just hangs... If not which ones are compatible Aix or Solaris to Unix or it must be a Unix client to connect to Unix Oracle database. Thank's for any help.

    Hi,
In our project we are using this type. Since in this project server in UNIX(DEC) and client is running on windows. We have created a listener which always listen requests from client and doing the according to the request.
Step1. create a request table, where u are inserting ur request.
step2. create PRO*C proram, which is listening request on the table. If there is any request, call the imp (executable). This is happening on server side.
Benifit. U can make a request from cleint and ftp the file client sit.
Are u interested in more details and code, pls send a mail to me

  • Edge 3.1 Data Services connection to SAP ECC 5.0 on AIX server

I've got a client who is trying to create a Data Services extract from an SAP ECC 5.0 system on an AIX server.  The Data Services is installed on a Windows box and is the Edge 3.1 version. He is able to connect to the SAP datastore, is able to import the metadata for a table and browse the data, but the data transport in the R/3 Data Flow fails due to a permissions problem on the file generated in the working directory on the SAP server (as indicated by the Data Services error message).
We have confirmed that the file can be opened and modified by the same user that the Data Integration service is running under. I have also duplicated his environment and settings in a sandbox virtual machine, except that our SAP ECC 6.0 system is running on MS Windows Server 2003, and the transfer works fine in that environment.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Is there a permissions setting we're missing?

Simply means that in the case you have more than one instance you need to shutdown down the instance you are working on and all the other ones too.

  • 817 / 9i windows client against 9i Unix Database server

Does it cause any problem like core-dump if I have both 8.1.7 and 9i windows clients connect to 9i Unix Database server to different account(sid) ? Thanks

Any combination of 8i and 9i clients and servers should work. You only start running into problems when you have 7.3.4 clients and 9.2 servers (or vice versa) or older 8.0 clients and 9.2 servers (or vice versa).
There is a certification matrix available on the OTN main page (under Get Support I believe) that will list all the permissible combinations.
