Run EXE from APEX

Hi,
I have a CardScan Program located D:\share\Ansari\Corex\CardScan\cs.exe. Is it possible to have a link to run cs.exe from my APEX application.

For security reasons, I don't think it is possible with just an hyperlink .. (It would be very dangerous ..)
The question is : where do you want to execute your executable ?
1. On the DB server ?
2. On the client machine (the machine where the browser is running) ?
For 1. there are several possibilities (java , external procedure , ..)
For 2. it is possibe to use an Applet (that's what is done in Oracle Forms with Webutil..)

I've been using this for about three years now between two different Windows servers and it still works on Oracle 11.1.0.7. Not sure about having the Linux box in the mix, but I think it should work.
The only caveat I remember, is that somewhere around 10g (maybe 11), Oracle tightened up the security model which caused me some headaches. Make sure that on the machine you shell out from, the Oracle 'owner' has whatever permissions are needed. If this a Windows machine, when you shell out, the local system accounts didn't have the neccessay permissions. The 'fix' from Oracle support was to create a special account for the Oracle software and specifically grant that account whatever permissions are needed, then go into the Windows Services and ensure that the Oracles services start with that account and not the local system account.

Facing problem with running exe from my java code

Hello,
I have to run the exe from java code for which I m using Runtime and Process classes. The exe runs in the following way on command line
C:/ myexe -j [now press enter]
input sentence followed by ! [now press enter]
And after this exe gives the output.
So is there any way to achieve this programmatically in Java?

I m confused .. how can i pass input to the Process through InputStream? I think it will need OutputStream for that.

The way exe works is as follows.
on command prompt>>
C:/chasen.exe -j [ Need to press ENTER here]
input statement . [ Need to press ENTER here too]
Then output is displayed on command prompt which can be taken from InputStream of the process. But I m not able to properly run this exe itself with all the arguments frm Stdin

Call iexplore.exe from apex page

I have a requirement to have a link from my main application apex page to invoke a client windows os command 'iexplore.exe -noframemerging' (I think this ie option used to be -nomerge). The idea is, this will fire up a separate IE8 session in a separate browser session, thus partitioning it from any other IE sessions. I know in IE8 there is a 'New Session' menu option but we need a link that is more obvious/integrated within our application. Our idea is to "persuade" users to click this link in preference to 'New Tab' or 'New Window' option.
Now, my quandary is how to do this. Should I be calling a Java Applet from the page (via Javascript) but is this "sand boxed" and thus will not let me call an executable for security reasons ?
Obviously I would also like to cater for users running Firefox (which I presume could detect in javascript and pass the browser type into the applet).
Is this sane, Is there any other way ?
Any advice would be appreciated or has someone already been down this road and could give me some pointers or an example.

Our corporate application already has calls to similar executables (ie MS Word, Excel) to do letter merges, document transfers etc using signed Java libs on the backend server. I suppose this requirement is different as I'm wanting to run an executable on the client pc. So, are we saying it is not possible to run an 'iexplore.exe' on the client PC (using a signed Java applet) ?

Calling calc.exe from APEX

I am wondering if there is any functionality(OS commands) which can be used to call local machine executables (like calc.exe for calculator, charmap.exe for character map, notepad.exe for notepad etc) from an APEX page.

I don’t have direct answer to your question (although if you search this forum you’ll probably find one) however all the features you mentioned in your post can be implemented using built-in APEX items, e.g. ‘text field with calculator popup’ item or ‘HTML editor standard’ textarea item.

What I'm trying to do is to allow users to fill out all the certificate data and upload a file in an APEX form. Once submitted the file should be uploaded in the USER_FILES table and all the fields along with CERT_ID, which is the foreign key pointing to the file in the USER_FILES table to be populated to the CERTIFICATES table. APEX wizard forms are based on one table and I'm unable to build form on both tables.
That's why I've created a view (V_CERT_FILES) on both tables and using INSTEAD OF trigger to insert/update both tables. I've done this before and updating this kind of views works perfect. Here is where the problem comes, if I'm updating the view all the data is updated correctly, but if I'm inserting into the view all the fields are populated at CERTIFICATES table, but for USER_FILES only the fields FILE_ID and LAST_UPDATE_DATE are populated. The rest three regarding the LOB are missing: BLOB_CONTENT, FILENAME, MIMETYPE. There are no errors when running this from APEX, but If I try to insert into the view from SQLDeveloper, I got this error:
ORA-22816: unsupported feature with RETURNING clause
ORA-06512: at line 1
As far as I know RETURNING clause in not supported in INSTEAD of triggers, although I didn't have any RETURNING clauses in my trigger (body is below).
Now the interesting stuff, after long tracing I found why this is happening:
First, insert is executed and the BLOB along with all its properties are uploaded to wwv_flow_file_objects$.
Then the following insert is executed to populate all the fields except the BLOB and it's properties, rowid is RETURNED, but as we know RETURNING clause is not supported in INSTEAD OF triggers, that's why I got error:

Next my trigger gets in action, sequences are generated, CERTIFICATES table is populated and then USER_FILES, but only the FILE_ID and LAST_UPDATE_DATE.
Finally update is fired against my view (V_CERT_FILES), reading data from wwv_flow_files it populates BLOB_CONTENT, MIMETYPE and FILENAME fields at the specific rowid in V_CERT_FILES, the one returned from the insert at the beginning. Last, file is deleted from wwv_flow_files.
I'm using sequences for the primary keys, this is only the body of the INSTEAD OF trigger:

I'm surprised that I wasn't able to find a valuable source of information regarding this problem, only MOS note about running SQLoader against view with CLOB column and INSTEAD OF trigger. The solution would be to ran it against base table, MOS ID 795956.1.
Maybe I'm missing something and that's why I decided to share my problem here. So my question is how do you create this kind of architecture, insert into two tables with a relation between them in APEX ? I read a lot in the Internet, some advices were for creating custom form with APEX API, create a custom ARP, create two ARP or create a PL/SQL procedure for handing the DML?

Well... All of a sudden it began to work. Why - I don't know. Maybe, because I have restarted the browser. Or else.
Anyway, now I can launch *.exe (some legacy applications) from APEX on Firefox. Next step - IE that resists for the moment.

Getting Data From Running EXE

Hello,
First off, I am an amateur programmer. I have been programming for a few years now, but because I'm a meteorology major, and not a CSCI major, I haven't had too much time. Tying in the fields of meteorology and computer science, I have made a few programs about the weather.
There is a radar program, GRLevelX, which displays radar information, much like on television. With hi-tech abilities with it. One of the capabilities is placefiles, which can be added to the program. So what I am trying to do is make a placefile which shows an aerial map from Google Maps, which can be placed under the radar. When I get down to it, I have the code to grab the map and put it int he placefile format, however, the only thing I cant get is the coordinates of the visible window of the program.
Is there any way I can tap into a running EXE, get variables being used by that program, and have them returned to the Java file I have created so far? I have spoke wiht one other person about this and he said I would need to call Win32 API and get the window handler. Again, I'm very new to this, so that si kind of confusing. But I try to challenge myself with these programs, trying to learn the language a bit more. I have searched through many forums trying to look how to do this, and I can't seem to find anything. Any ideas? Thank you very much! I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Thanks for the quick replies. After some looking at the program and the first response, it looks like Java isn't the way to go. At least I have a good basis on how to do the main stuff, in java, just have to see if I can hand that off to someone familiar with the program to write in a different language. As for the second reply, I can see what you mean, not wanting to go into any secondary program. Especially if I don't know how its written and whatnot. There are a number of other placefiles, which do go into this program and grab data such as coordinates, and return their values. I will have to see what language they use (Visual Basic, i think?). Error when running captive runtime .exe from root directory of drive.

Platform: Windows
Specifics: Captive runtime desktop app using an ANE.
Problem: I am distributing the app on a flash drive. Ideally,the .exe will be on the root of the drive, so the user will not need to enter a subdirectory. I'm mostly concerned about users moving the software and getting frustrated by this error.
The error is "Adobe Air: The installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance."
Here's an example. Importantly, this error only occurs when an ANE is included. I tried a few different ANE files created by others, and simply adding them to the project produces the error. I don't even need to use the ANE anywhere in my code.

This is a simple application with a few blank buttons. Try extracting in a subdirectory somewhere, and then moving to the root of a flash drive or any other drive. However, I don't recommend running code from strangers on the top directory of your C:\ drive.
Additionally, I installed Apache Flex 4.12 but the error persists. The text simply changed to "Initial content could not be loaded for this application. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance."

I did some more testing. Same issue occurs if I create a captive runtime app from Flash Pro. It also happens when I use the Adobe Air installer, but install to the root directory.
Can anyone think of a workaround?

Request to run updater.exe from an unknown publisher starting firefox

every time Firefox is started from initial turn on of computer (not from the computer being hibernated or in sleep mode), I receive a message to run Updater.exe from an Unknown Publisher. There is nothing to show that this is a Firefox application but, I am not receiving any threat messages either. Is there any way to find out where this Updater is coming from and if it is to be trusted?

Do you use a Norton security suite? If so, I suggest checking with Norton's support on whether that prompt is legitimate.
You will find numerous unofficial distributors advertising on Google for Firefox downloads. These generally are bundles of crap along with Firefox. You should check to make sure you don't have such a thing installed.
Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help surface undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.

These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. Right-click on the exe file and choose Properties.
Switch to the compatibility tab and uncheck the box next to "Run this program as an administrator". Click "ok".
