Run script alarm question for iCal

I have a script that I have been able to set as an alarm in iCal to change the times of events on various days.  People subscribe to this calendar and I would like to imbed the script as an alarm in the subscribed calendar.  Can't get it to work.  Here is the message I am getting right now when I refresh the subscribed calendar...  There was an unexpected error with the request (domain CalCalendarStorePersistenceErrorDomain / error 1 / description 'Alarms that open files or scripts must include a file path.').  As far as I can determine it does have a file path!  Does this error mean that the script should have a file path?  I've tried the
set theFile to POSIX path of (script name) command in the Applescript, but I'm not convinced I have it right.  Can you run scripts that reside on the local machine by activating them through subscribed calendars?
thanks,
dan

Found the problem: The run_maintenance script couldn't be completed without user action (because of the dialogue), so was giving iCal an error.
Solution: I've set another script that simply launches the run_maintenance script as the alarm.
So there are 4 players in this daisy chain: iCal, a script to launch the reminder script, the reminder script, and Maintenance!
Inelegant, but it works.

  • Run Script alarm doesn't work when iCal closed

I have an applescript to remind me to run a maintenance application once a week. I've set a "Run Script" alarm for a weekly event in iCal... But the script ONLY executes if iCal is open!
If iCal is closed I get the message:
"An AppleScript event alarm did not execute properly. The script "run_maintenance.scrpt" that was assigned to the event "maintenance" did not open or did not finish running."
Then, when I then open iCal, the applescript executes.
How can I get the script to run when iCal is closed, just like a normal alarm?
By the way, the applescript is quite straightforward, with a dialog and finder instruction to activate the maintenance program. It runs fine manually (& as I say, if iCal is already open).
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Two questions for iCal (iLife 11) running on OS X Lion

    1. For a married couple, do I need to have two cards in order to list their birthdays
    2. When in iCal, when I go to edit a card, no + signs show up to add another phone, email, address, etc. I did not have this problem under Snow Leopard and iLife 9.
Am I doing something wrong or have others noticed this problem.

  • Question for iCal

I have a question. I'm thinking about buying a iPhone and I know that an iMac has iCal where you can, over the internet, change the calendar.
I would like to, with my and his phone, be able to update a calendar and have it sync between the two phones. Is this possible with the iPhone?

To clarify, the invites show up as CET time on invitees iPhone.

  • Ical alert to  run script disappears from the event

A few seconds after I set an  alert for an event  to run a script, the Run Script designation disappears and defaults to  alert Message. I cannot make the Run Script designation stick. So, when the alert triggers, no script is run.

    Hi kimal,
Are you syncing the calendars? Run Script alarms only work on local calendars, those under "On My Mac" in iCal.
    Best wishes

  • Switching to different alarm sounds in ical for notifications

    Dear Reader,
Can someone help me with this! I use iCal in iPhone for al sorts of things, and like to have a choice in selecting a alarm-sound for different occasions
    ( wake-up, lunch, birthday, appointments, etc. )
Adding different sounds to different notifications will make it easier ( and more fun ) for the ear to distinguish the priority.
    Greetings Charlie
PS. I found this on the net but that does not fix my  ( iPhone - iCal ) problem!

AND how hard can it be to get it in the next software update, do you or anybody out there now a developer who can fix this?

  • ICal Run Script

I'm trying to run a script via iCal using an alarm and it doesn't seem to work if the computer has been sleeping for a certain amount of time.
I have an alarm set at 4:15am - 5:15am. If I set the alarm to "run script" and choose the script, it will return something like the script didn't finish. If change the script up as an application and set the iCal alarm to open file it returns an error "No user interaction allowed."
Here's the real kicker. If I set the alarm to run within a few minutes or so, it works just fine using either run script or open file, but if the computer has been asleep for a certain amount of time, it flakes out. I tried using the energy saver seting to wake the computer up a minute before the script runs, but that didn't make a difference. I also thought it might be because there was the screen saver was password protected, but I turned that off and that didn't work either.
Not that this really matters, but the only thing the script is doing is kicking off a FileMaker script that runs an import. So it is very simple and I set a timeout on it just to be sure that wasn't an issue either. The Filemaker script only takes about 2 minutes to complete. Here's the code...
    delay 10
    tell application "FileMaker Pro Advanced"
    activate
    with timeout of 3600 seconds
    open "HardDrive:Users:username:Documents:FileMakerFile.fp7"
    do script "ImportScript"
    end timeout
    end tell
Does anyone have any ideas on this one? I'm running this on a Quicksilver G4 with OS 10.4.6. iCal is v2.0.3 and applescript is v1.10.6.

I have Apple Java Plug-in and Java Deployment Toolkit plug-ins installed and active, do you (Hasve no idea whether these apply to a Mac environment)? • ICal / Run Script / Is this even possible?

    Hello.
I would like to generate an email from an event I create in iCal.
I have set up my applescript to run with the "run script" option in the alarm section.
All that works fine. Except for one thing that I am not even sure is possible.
Say I create an event called "Liz's Birthday".
Is there a way in the "run script" for me to get via applescript the title of the event? ("Liz's Birthday")
From everything I have read it seems iCal is "done" with the run script once it is run... and that there is no way to call back to the original event to get information.
Note: my script is pretty complicated to i know I can send an email reminder, my goal is to create a whole new email that has the title from the even but not the note. (by default ical will put the body of the event in the note. which we do not want).
    thanks.

  • Run scripts on iCal

    Dear All,
Before switching to my new iMac, I could open very easily Pages files (4.03) and run scripts during events ex: "Take a screen shot..."
With my new iMac I have problem opening Pages files (with the so known Pages 5) and I am not able to run scripts.
Are you experiencing the same problems? Is there anybody here who could help me.
I thank you in advance for your replies.
    Kind regards,
    Daniel.

Here's a workaround that I just figured out that seems to do the trick for my issue with my "alerts" that open a file. I'm not sure it would work with the automator attachment but maybe you can adapt it.
I set up google calendar to sync with iCal via CalDav and put my automation calendar on google calendar/iCal. I left my other iCal calendars as they were to sync with MobileMe/iPhone. My automated file launches are preserved in iCal and the calendar does not sync with my iPhone, which is what I wanted. Works for me, hope you can get it to work for your situation.

  • "Ring-ring" script for iCal.

    Hi everyone,
I wondered whether someone could help this ammeter create his script
I want to make a script that plays the iChat videoconference "Ring" sound continuously in the background untill I click "OK". I will then use this in iCal, by selecting my script under the "Alarm" section for the event.
Unfortunately I am pretty much an absolute beginner with AppleScript. So far I have come up with this that doesn't work and if it did, wouldn't even do what I want:
    global Play_Count
    set Play_Count to 0
    tell application "Finder"
open document file "Ringer.aiff" of folder "Scripts" of folder "Documents" of folder "Samtherocker" of folder "Users" of startup disk
    end tell
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
repeat while Play_Count is less than 5
    rewind
    play front movie
    set Play_Count to Play_Count + 1
    end repeat
    end tell
I know that this script does not do what I want to achieve but I thought I'd add it to show what I'd done so far.
If anyone can help me or point me in the right direction that would be great. Also, can anyone reccommend a good book/website for learning AppleScript?
    Sam

    John that was great!
I think that you were right in saying that the script was more complicated than I really needed, so I took the bits from the script that I was lacking and added a few more and came up with this:
    tell application "Finder"
open document file "Ringer.aiff" of folder "Scripts" of folder "Documents" of folder "Samtherocker" of folder "Users" of startup disk
    end tell
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    rewind
set looping of front movie to true
    play front movie
set visible of every window to false
    end tell
display dialog "Stop Alarm?" buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    quit
    end tell
    launch application "iCal"
It does exactly what I wanted it to do in the first place so thanks a lot John.
    Sam
P.S. Can you recommend any good books/sites?

  • Strange behavior for iCal alarms

To run an AppleScript from an iCal alarm you do the following:
In Automator, create a Calendar Alarm
Select Utilities from the library pane
Select & drag Run AppleScript into the workflow area
Copy/paste an AppleScript into the Run AppleScript box
Save the newly created Calendar Alarm with name (e.g. ArchNew)
This will open the Automator Calendar in iCal
Edit the Date/Time/Repeat/...... as you want as shown in the example below
The resulting AppleScript will be stored here
    /Users/<user_acct>/Library/Workflows/Applications/Calendar/ArchNew.app
    Now the problem
If at a later time you want to modify the AppleScript ArchNew.app using the AppleScript Editor, it will break the binding between the iCal alarm and the AppleScript ArchNew.app
The only way I've been able to do this is delete the file
    /Users/<user_acct>/Library/Workflows/Applications/Calendar/ArchNew.app
and then go back to #1 above and repeat the whole process with the modified AppleScript.
Does anyone know why the simple approach of directly editing and saving the changes to the AppleScript ArchNew.app doesn't work?

You still haven't provided your 4 digit Oracle version or the TABLE and INDEX DDL.
Your 'problem' could be nothing more than DEFERRED SEGMENT creation where Oracle doesn't allocate space until the first data is added for that segment.
See 'Understanding Deferred Segment Creation' in the DBA Guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/tables002.htm#CHDGJAGB
    >
    Understand Deferred Segment Creation
Beginning with Oracle Database 11g Release 2, when you create heap-organized tables in a locally managed tablespace, the database defers table segment creation until the first row is inserted.
In addition, segment creation is deferred for any LOB columns of the table, any indexes created implicitly as part of table creation, and any indexes subsequently explicitly created on the table.
    Note:
In Release 11.2.0.1, deferred segment creation is not supported for partitioned tables. This restriction is removed in release 11.2.0.2 and later.
    >
That is why it is MANDATORY that posters provide their 4 digit Oracle versions. There are too many features that depend on the version being used.

  • Looking for app to extend alarm for iCal - Reminders

We are frustrated seniors new to the apple family. On all devices iMac, iPhone and iPad we only receive alarms when we either pick them up or turn them on.... We are looking for an app that would alarm us for appointments, even if it is only through my wife's iPhone (through the cloud), using iCal or Reminders... We would like to extend the alarm to perhaps 5 minutes then repeat an hour later and keep repeating until we would turn it off manually..... PLS help.... Maggie N John

You can take a screen shot of any page in your iPad.  Simply hold the power and home button for less than an second and you'll hear the camera shutter.  The picture will be stored in your camera roll and you can then email it.

  • Why does Firefox on my Windows 7 PC hang (become unresponsive) while it waits for most pages to load or run scripts?

Firefox hangs (becomes unresponsive) when accessing many sites including Gmail. Eventually, when hung, Firefox will throw up a window saying "WARNING: A script has become unresponsive" or, in the case of Gmail, the page itself will say "Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an internet connectivity problem."
IE8 and Google Chrome are working normally. I've tried Firefox in safe mode, re-installing and even running Firefox portable from a USB thumb drive. Each time with the same result—Firefox hangs or becomes unresponsive while it waits for most pages to load or run scripts.

Your problem sounds like the one that a co-worker and I started to have about the same time. Check your Symantec client management control log. You might see a line like the following.

At first we thought that it was a Javascript problem until we noticed this log. The key words are 'Block' and 'FlashPlayerPlu'. This problem recently started for us, perhaps with a software push 1-2 weeks ago. Internet Explorer does not hang when accessing pages with Flash.
The Flash page does eventually load after a long time. However, since the whole browser hangs for a while, for the most part having the Flash plugin enabled makes Firefox unusable if accessing pages with Flash.
Disabling the Flash plugin solves the hanging problem, but I do not know what is causing the problem, nor do I know when a combination of Windows 7, Flash, and Symantec will work. Your later version of Symantec shows that we might have the problem for a while, but I do not know what customization CSC did with Symantec. My coworker did run a complete virus scan, uncovering nothing. Another co-worker is running Windows XP. She does not have the problem, but I do not know what other versions of software she is running.
