  • Run two Database in single server

    Hi...
I want to run two database into single server. For that I had created one another database.
But now I am not able to connect with two database at the same time.
When I am going to connect to another database i have to shutdown the first one.
Is it possible to connect and work on two database at the same time?
    Thanks
    pratik

You should have a good enough to have two or more instances running on the same machine.
The performance of a single instnace will always be better compared to having two or more instances on the same machine.
Is it possible to connect and work on two database at the same time?Yes
    Here is an example
    $ ps -ef |grep pmon
    ora101AS 548928 1 0 Aug 06 - 0:31 ora_pmon_orcl
    ora102DB 552974 1 0 Aug 06 - 0:36 ora_pmon_TEST
    ora102DB 1380412 1 0 00:58:49 - 0:04 ora_pmon_LIVE
    testuser 1613946 1691868 0 10:46:11 pts/2 0:00 grep pmon
    Single machine having multiple instances
    $ ps -ef |grep pmon
    ora102DB 4086 1 0 Aug 06 - 1:39 ora_pmon_LIVE10
    testuser 32848 31172 0 10:46:24 pts/0 0:00 grep pmon
Single machine having a single instance
The second machine performance is much better compared to the first machine that has mutiple instances.
Normally CREATE DATABASE is used by advance users while DBCA is relatively easy to use.

  • Creation of two databases in oracle 11g on linux

    HI,
I need to create two databases in oracle 11g on linux.
how to set SID'S in .bash_profile and change the init.ora file.
    pls anyone let me know
    thanks
    srinivas

If you have different databases on same node you could choose to not set ORACLE_SID in shell init file but use instead interactive oraenv Oracle script to set the right ORACLE_SID.
Please read Configuring the Operating System Environment Variables in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10897/em_manage.htm#ADMQS12369
To create easily a database (ie without using your own scripts) try to use DBCA that will automatically take care of database initialization file: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10897/install.htm#BABEIAID

    Jim,
Before starting the database A, did you set ORACLE_SID=A from command line? You can run as many instances you want from single server provided you enough memory, processing power. Also try starting your instances usign window services and check and post some lines from alert.log for database A.

  • Running oracle database xe (express edition) on windows server 2008 r2

Is it supported to run Oracle Database XE on Windows Server 2008 R2?
Database XE is only supported as 32-bit. Current builds of Windows Server 2008 only come in x64 configurations.
Here are the Database XE system requirements for windows:
The docs say that 32-bit windows is required, yet they also say that windows server 2008 is supported.
Windows Server 2008 R2 came out in 2009, and in R2 they eliminated 32-bit OS (though there is the WOW64 subsystem to run 32-bit programs within the 64-bit OS).
    See:
    - [Wikipedia page about windows server 2008 with info on R2|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_2008#Windows_Server_2008_R2]
    - [Wikipedia page on "windows 32-bit on windows 64-bit"|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WOW64]
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hello Matt,
Is it supported to run Oracle Database XE on Windows Server 2008 R2?No.
The docs say that 32-bit windows is required, yet they also say that windows server 2008 is supported. So this means that only 32bit versions of 2008 will be supported.
Windows Server 2008 R2 came out in 2009, and in R2 they eliminated 32-bit OS (though there is the WOW64 subsystem to run 32-bit programs within the 64-bit OS).Which is probably why 2008 R2 is not supported.
    You can either take the VM approach and install a 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Linux host, or you can queue in the list of persons waiting for a 64 bit Windows release. See the following thread for details (and the queue) for the latter: {thread:id=2277728}

OK. You will need to make sure the ip addresses you assign to your vms are in the same subnet as the adapter create by the installation of vmware. Once you get the fundamental network setup fixed, you can treat these vms just like any machine in your data center. Forget the vm console and access them exactly like you would any remote server -- putty for the linux machine and Windows Remote Desktop for the Windows machine.
At a command prompt on the host, issue this:
c:> ipconfig -allYou will get back info on several net adapters, two of which are identified as being with vmware -- vmNet1 and vmNet8. Note the IP addresses of both. We'll need it later.
You will also need to know how you configured the network adapters on your vm's -- NAT, bridged, hostonly, ???
Note that these issues are out of scope for this forum. I don't mind helping, but I no longer have a vmware installation to reference details.
What have you actually tried to do? ( Data Transfer )I tried to exchange data from windows database  to linux DB
That's pretty vague. Exactly how did you try to "exchange data"? A sql statement using a db_link? export/import? Carrier Pigeon?
    >
    Where are you stuck?
I don't know ,  how to configure ip and necessary information  for windows database.
Configuring an IP address is purely an OS admin issue and is out of scope for this database forum.
Google is your friend, but only if you use it: [url http://lmgtfy.com/?q=configure+windows+ip+address]http://lmgtfy.com/?q=configure+windows+ip+address

  • How can I combine two databases, from two computers, to have one combined database of messages?

My old XP computer recently died and I had to build a new Windows 8.1 machine. While I was down I used a laptop as a temporary replacement. Now my new machine is running fine and receiving e-mail, but I now have two databases--one on the new machine and one on the laptop. Both are based on a recent backup, so they are lengthy--except that the new machine's database has a hole in it for the period I was on the laptop and the laptop's database also has gaps. How can I combine two databases into one that includes the messages from both machines?
    Thanks in advance,
    profsimonie

Thanks for your reply. My profile folder did not contain any MBOX files. I found them in another folder on another drive. The Import-Export tools simply transferred each folder to the current one as a sub-folder. Then I had to use ctrl-a to select everything in the folder and move them manually to the current folder (such as inbox). Then I could use the other utility you mentioned to remove the duplicates. This had to be done, one folder at a time, to combine each folder. It worked, but I had about thirty-five folders to deal with. The whole process took most of two days to complete. I wish there was a simple way to blend everything together in one action, but I could not find an add-on that would do this.

  • Running Oracle database 10g and 11g on same 5 RAC nodes

    Hello Gurus,
Could any body throw light if I can install and sucessfully run Oracle database 10g and 11g on the same Oracle RAC installation setup. My setup is below
    Number of nodes-5
    OS- windows 2003 or RHEL5
    storage- DELL EMC SAN
    Clusterware- oracle version11g
    File system-Automatic storage management(ASM)
After I successfully setup clusterware,ASM on the nodes,I would want to install 11g database on all 5 nodes .
Then Install 10g database on only 3 of the nodes using the same clusterware.
What are your views on the same.
Also FYI... as per metalink node 220970.1(RAC: Frequently Asked Questions) one can do such a setup.
what iam looking for is practical experience if anyone has implemented this in production system,if yes any issues faced and how tough it is to support.
    Thanks,
    Imtiyaz

You could run an 11g database and 10g database on the same cluster as long as you use Clusterware 11g.
The administration aspect will drastically change according to the platform you run on. As of now, it appears you don't know whether it will be Linux or Windows.
It would be practical to support the same database release.

  • Oracle 9i Database for Linux

    Hello,
I need to be able to test some software changes against an Oracle 9i database running under Linux as this is an environment used by one of my customers.
I have tried downloading the zip files found at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/linuxsoft.html but if I try to open or download any of these files I receive an Error 404 Page Cannot Be Loaded.
This happens when using IE6 or when using GetRight.
Are the links to these files still valid? If not, where can I download Oracle 9i Database for Linux?

I don't find any problems with these files and they are still available.

  • Can I connected to two Database in jdbc page?

I need to run two queries in my project but it has two different databases.

    Yes.
You have to load the appropriate driver(s) and use two different Connection objects, but as long as the 2 DBs have different URLs, it all works just fine.

    jey84 wrote:
I want to create two database in same machine. You can have a 100 Oracle databases on the same machine. The issue though is why?
Why do you want to duplicate database overheads? Why two sets of system and process monitoring processes? Log writers? Database writers? Etc.
Why two SGAs? Why two system tablespaces? Two temp tablespaces, undo tablespaces? Two sets of redo logs? Etc.
You now have two database footprints. Instead of a single large SGA with properly sized buffer cache, shared pool, large pool and so on - you know have two smaller SGAs and smaller caches and pools that are now less capable and less scalable.
Why would you want to do this?
There are no sound technical reasons for running multiple database instances on a server - unless it is something like a 32 CPU/multicore server with 256 GBs of memory. But then why not use this as a cloud-type server on which you can run multiple server VMs? One VM for each database, as that provides more flexibility than multiple databases on a single server(physical or VM)?
In today's world of cluster and cloud computing, running 2 databases instances on the same server does not make much sense. And needs to be backed up by reason and logic that justify such an approach.
