Runing Applications in JAVA Applets

Hello all, I would like to run an application written in some other language inside a JAVA Applet, for example, if I want to run an application like "electronic work bench" or "piant" inside a JAVA Applet to view it on the internet, so many users can use the application online, so...... can anyone help me???????

If your current application includes a GUI, let's say a JFrame that you are showing everything in, then it is a simple matter to create a JApplet that does everything your JFrame is doing. You can then make a jar of your program and include it in a webpage using any of the methods outlined in applet tutorials.

    Hi....i m using Mac OS x 10.5.8 with safari Version 5.0.2 (5533.18.5). I just updated the Java version to Java 6 and now m getting below error:
    This page contains content of “application/x-java-applet” type. You do not have the plug-in required to view this content.
    Please help me out on this....

    I am also having a problem with this. My website is hosted through "www.onlinepictureproof.com" and now that my laptop is back from repair with OS X 10.6.8 I am unable to upload my photos to my work website. It says "a plug-in is needed to display this content. Install plug-in" and then a window pops up that says "no suitable plug-ins were found".  Below that is "unknown plug-in (application/x-java-applet)" with a link to "manual install" which takes me to "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index-jsp-141438.html#download" which just leaves me lost. I've tried downloading the "JRE" but I have zero idea what that means or if Im downloading the proper thing. Once I click on the "download JRE" it brings me to a download page where there are WAY too many items for me to choose from to download, when I have no idea what I need or why I need it. please help, this is driving me insane. I actually preferred my constantly crashing laptop to the state its in now, "like brand new" back from apple repair...I have already updated everything that is promted through "Software Updates".
    "OnlinePictureProof.com" only directs me to apple support.
    Thank you for any help you can offer!

    I found a (better) workaround. However, you'll have to edit the pluginreg.dat file, which on Mac OSX is found under:
    ~/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/Profiles/<hash>.default/
    (where ~ is your home directory path)

  • Launching An Application From Java applet?

    is it possible to run an executable from a java applet (the executable could be in the local machine)? if it is not possible is there any other alternatives (like scripts)?

    Yes, it is possible but it violates the applet security rules. So you have to sign the applet for this to be allowed.

  • Java Applet in a HTML page: failing with PLS-00306: wrong number of args

    We are trying to use a Java Applet in a HTML page. as our system needs to be able to retrieve a predefined set of data from a third party system that uses Dynamic Data Exchange Protocol (DDE) and are encountering errors from APEX and in IE itself.
    We are using JavaDde from www.nevaobject.com that enables our Java applet to interact with Windows applications (Third Party System) using DDE.
    This functionality is currently used in our Web Form 6i application and we are trying to use the same in the new ApEx application.
    We are using ApEx version : 2.1 and actually aer encountering 2 problems:
    Problem 1: ApEx failing with PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'ACCEPT'
    Problem 2: IE crashes if Applet used in a complex page with several regions (1 Context, 4 Report Regions, 2 level Tabs, Links)
    This problem does not occur in the page where there is only applet and one region. In the case of complex page the IE crashes if the page is reloaded
    Test scenario:
    1- Create a simple page with the HTML region.
    2- Define the Source of the above region as follows
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93"

    </OBJECT>
    3- Create a simple Java applet "simpleApplet" - for the test its enough if the applet will have just the init method printing out the mesage to the console
    4- Create a Submit Button (not redirect) in Region Header and create unconditional (do not set When Button Pressed property) Page Branch to navigate to another page (the page without the applet)
    6- Run the page and Submit -
    The error below is returned by the engine:

    It looks like whatever HTML you're including on your page is creating HTML input form elements inside the HTML form "wwv_flow". This form is posted to wwv_flow.accept, and of course, the PL/SQL procedure wwv_flow.accept doesn't know anything these additional arguments/form elements you're attempting to POST.

  • Java Applets in Safari

    I'm trying to run a Java applet with safari, but everytime I go to the webpage all I get is a grey box with a picture of a coffee cup that has two arrows circling it. Nothing loads after that. Any idea how to fix this?

    Hi ad1054,
    Are you sure you have java 1.6 and if so, how did you get it? I believe the latest version available from apple is 1.5.0_06. Java 1.6 was only just released by Sun, and, if I'm not mistaken, only for PC and Linux. Apple may be waiting to force people to pay for Leopard to get Java 1.6. (Though you can get a beta version from developer.apple.com.) As Hawaiian_Starman mentioned above, you can check your java version.
    That said, you don't have to worry about lower versions of Java because Java is backwards compatible. In fact, if you use Firefox (sorry, but I just checked it in Safari, and got a blank page so I guess Safari, like IE, doesn't support this) and go to "about:plugins" you will see something like
    <pre>
    Java Embedding Plugin 0.9.5g2
    File name: MRJPlugin.plugin
    Runs Java applets using the latest installed versions of Java. For more information: Java Embedding Plugin. Run version test: Test Your JVM.
    MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled

    application/x-java-applet Embedded Java Applet xja Yes

    application/x-java-applet;version=1.1.1 Embedded Java Applet xja111 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.1.2 Embedded Java Applet xja112 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.1.3 Embedded Java Applet xja113 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.2 Embedded Java Applet xja12 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.2.1 Embedded Java Applet xja121 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.2.2 Embedded Java Applet xja122 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.3 Embedded Java Applet xja13 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.3.1 Embedded Java Applet xja131 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.4 Embedded Java Applet xja14 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.4.1 Embedded Java Applet xja141 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.4.2 Embedded Java Applet xja142 Yes
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.5 Embedded Java Applet xja15 Yes
    </pre>
    You can see from this list that all versions up to and including the currently installed one are supported. The only thing you have to fear is that the applet you are trying to use was compiled with Java 1.6 and is not itself backwards compatible. However, when I made a test applet of this type, I got a red X, and no coffee cup.
    If you see the red X, and I think the coffee cup as well, you should be able to right-click (or ctrl-click) the icon. If so, this will give you a menu with "console" and "about" choices. "About" will give you the version of Java you have, and "console" is supposed to show you the errors that kept the applet from working. (However, with my Java 1.6 test, the console was empty.)
    I hope this helps.

    My dear colleague, You better consider asking this question in Jdeveloper forum.
    I have a simple code for Windows application. You can easily convert it into Applet application..
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.*;
    import oracle.sql.*;
    public class QueryFrame extends Frame {

    addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
    public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {
    System.exit(0);
    ActionListener printListener = new ActionListener() {
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) {
    ConnectAndRun(inputText.getText());
    Panel toolbar = new Panel();
    toolbar.setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));
    Button queryButton = new Button("Run Query");
    queryButton.addActionListener(printListener);
    toolbar.add(queryButton);
    inputText = new TextField(14);
    toolbar.add(inputText);

  • Force Java Applet Reload

    I'm trying to test a new version of a java applet. However, from the results I can tell that Safari is using a cached version of the jar file rather than downloading a new one from the website. I have tried emptying the cache, closing and reopening Safari, and reloading. However, I still get the old version. How can I force a reload?

    Dear Jason,
    Thanks to your help, I try and test and it's really work!!
    Today I look deeper to the source code of the web page, it post below, could I also add
    -Duser.language=en to the paragraph and get the same result?

  • Java Applet crashes Netscape upon Exit?

    Hello, I created an Applet that I am opening in NEtscape. When I make an attempt to exit (i.e. destroy) the APplet, it crashes the whole netscape. It even happens within Netscape 7. Is there a way around this since it makes a big problem for me to use the applet if it is going to crash my Netscape browser. I`ll appreciate any suggestions or comments, thanks Ivan

    The main class that everything is in is called GUI.java and it is a frame. In order to open this as an Applet in netscape, I created a GUI_RMIApplet.java file. And The GUI_RMIApplet.html file opens the GUI_RMIApplet.java file which in return opens GUI.java. The exit call is in GUI.java file.
    The html file code is as follows:
    <EMBED type="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3" CODE = "musr.client.gui.GUI
    _RMIApplet.class" CODEBASE = "." ARCHIVE = "jar/musr.jar" NAME = "MUSR GUI APPLE
    T" WIDTH = 400 HEIGHT = 300 ALIGN = middle VSPACE = 0 HSPACE = 0 UBBoption = "de
    velop" scriptable=false pluginspage="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/pl
    ugin-install.html">
    <NOEMBED>
    The GUI_RMIApplet.java code is:
    package musr.client.gui;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.rmi.Naming;
    import java.rmi.RemoteException;
    import musr.server.*;
    public class GUI_RMIApplet extends Applet {
    boolean isStandalone = false;
    String message = "The application will launch in a separate window";
    GUI_RMIServer obj = null;
    /**Get a parameter value*/
    public String getParameter(String key, String def) {
    return isStandalone ? System.getProperty(key, def) :
    (getParameter(key) != null ? getParameter(key) : def);
    /**Construct the applet*/
    public GUI_RMIApplet() {
    /**Initialize the applet*/
    public void init() {
    try {
    jbInit();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("GUI_RMI exception: " + e.getMessage());
    e.printStackTrace();
    /**Component initialization*/
    private void jbInit() {
    // Main bulk for this applet
    GUI gui = new GUI();
    gui.setVisible(true);
    public void paint(Graphics g) {
    g.drawString(message, 25, 50);
    /**Get Applet information*/
    public String getAppletInfo() {
    return "Applet Information";
    /**Get parameter info*/
    public String[][] getParameterInfo() {
    return null;
    //static initializer for setting look & feel
    static {
    try {
    //UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
    //UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getCrossPlatformLookAndFeelClassName());
    catch(Exception e) {
    And, the GUI.java class calls these funcitons when exit menu button is selected:
    GUI.this.dispose(); // disposes the frame
              System.exit(-1); // disposes the applet (?or not?)
    I think the System.exit button is messing things up but I don't know what other function I can use to close teh applet.
    Hope this is enough information.

  • Starting a Java applet???

    I want to start a Java applet with this one JAR file I have. What is the code I need to put into the HTML to initiate the applet. I have this so far, but I don't know the class required:
    <applet code = "whatclassdoineedhere.class"
         archive = "file.jar"
    width=256 height=256>
    </applet>
    I am wondering what class I need to get it running. I'm completely new to Java, and am just experimenting with some things.

    Let me know if it doesn't work, by the way, I suggest you to use the Object Tag like this, it makes the user behind the internet terminal, know if it has the Java Plug-in; if not, it tries to install it, like when using flash.

  • Invoking Java Applet from SAP Netweaver Eportal using java webdynpro

    Hi ,
    We are using SAP Netweaver portal version 7.0.WE want to invoke java applet into webdynpro java application on button click.
    The Applet should open in a new window when the particular parameter is selected and the button is clicked
    The code is given below:
    String html = "<HTML> <HEAD></HEAD> <BODY><APPLET code=\"org.faceless.pdf2.viewer2.PDFViewerApplet\" type=\"application/x-java-applet;version=1.4.2_05\" archive=\"bfopdf.jar\" width=800 height=600></APPLET></BODY></HTML>";
    IWDCachedWebResource resource = WDWebResource.getWebResource(html.getBytes("UTF-8"), WDWebResourceType.HTML);
    resource.setResourceName("HTML_inline.html");
    IWDWindow window = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager().createNonModalExternalWindow(resource.getAbsoluteURL(),"Image");
    window.removeWindowFeature(WDWindowFeature.TOOL_BAR);
    window.removeWindowFeature(WDWindowFeature.ADDRESS_BAR);
    window.removeWindowFeature(WDWindowFeature.STATUS_BAR);
    window.open();
    But after clicking on button new html window is opening and the applet is not showing properly. The java console showing the error:

    Regards,

    Hi,
    I'm not sure, but I believe the 'code' argument should end with '.class'. However, your implementation of displaying a Java applet seems ok, the error is within the applet's Jar file
    Anyway, have a look at http://download.oracle.com/javase/1,5.0/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/using_tags.html#applet and http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/objects.html#h-13.4 on how to use the <applet> tag
    As a test, you could try and create a local HTML document on your local desktop, including the applet. I would suspect you will receive the same error in your Java console
    I believe the only option is to recompile your Java applet (if possible at all) against a newer JDK (1.4 and up)

  • Java Applet & JSP

    I'm recently developing a standalone application. I plan to use java applet to develop that application. If I want it to be a web base application, what should I do?
    I'm new to java applet! Some of my seniors told me it's better to develop my application using JSP. What is the difference between JSP and Java applet anyway?
    Which one to be used to develop a web based application? Java applet or JSP? Which one is easier and more efficient?
    What is the server & client concept applied in making an web based application develop with Java applet?
    Thanks!

    If you're really new to java, it's going to be much easier to get something worthwhile done using JSP and J2EE
