Running a command line in Java

Dear all,
I have a question, I need to run a command line in a Java program. The commands line is the next:
cas.exe -i file1
I have been seeing in internet and I have tried:
Process ls_proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start D:\\cas>cas.exe -i file1");
it start the window where the cas folder is... but it dont run the commands line : cass.exe -i file1 :(
Somebody can help me, please??
Andrea

try running it like this.
Process ls_proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start D:\\cas>cas.exe -i file1" +"\n");
if that does not work put this underneath the original.
ls_proc.newLine();
or look into the ProcessBuilder class in java.lang.

  • Error while running the SAP JCO java program running via command line

    Hi,
        We are facing an issue while using SAP JCO. When i try to run the sample program using RAD 8.0 ( IBM IDE tool For Java Development) its working fine.
    The same sample program if i try to run using command line, Then its giving below exception message.
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Integration
    NOTE: I have configured proper sapjco jar & Dll files path in class path settings in my batch file.

    Hi,
    class loader can't find class definition during runtime but it could find it during compilation. So the problem is with your classpath. Does your classpath point to file with class Integration? Check this [blog|http://javarevisited.blogspot.com.au/2011/06/noclassdeffounderror-exception-in.html].

  • Running ssh command in a java application

    Hi there!
    I am trying to run a ssh command from a java application cause I need to store the result.
    Actually I can run this command in the cygwin shell so I need to open the shell and run the command, all trough java.
    so, what my process needs to do is:
    1) open the cmd
    2) run C:\cygwin\cygwin.bat
    3) execute the ssh command
    ssh -l fip-user ipdb fip 42704) print the result of the ssh command.
    Note that the cygwin opens in the same command line window and so will print it's result to the same process inputstream

    Use "Runtime.getRuntime().exec()" to execute the SSH program,
    and you can then get the output of the SSH program
    via the getInputStream() method on the returned Process object.
    Note: there are many pitfalls with this. In particular, most people don't know
    they should create separate threads to drain the input/output pipes.

  • How to run a command line argument

    i want to run a command line argument, say for eg......i want to execute the "dir" command on the dos prompt and capture the output.
    how can i do this.
    actually i want to capture the output of the ping command and write it to a file. can any body plsssssss help

    This command runs a ping to "address" and writes the output back to the command line. To capture it, just put strings into an array or do whatever you want with it. If you want to wait until the program completes before reading its input, use p.waitFor().
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("ping " + address);
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
    String currLine = null;
    while((currLine = in.readLine()) != null)
      System.out.println("ping: " + currLine);

  • Running a windows command line in java?

    Hi guys.
    I wonder if there's a way to run windows (dos) commands from within java. the code goes like:
    if (setting == true) {
    run dos command "ECHO Command is activated and running."
    please reply if you are able to help out. thanks a lot
    - n3phi|im`

    note that in some cases you can use a normal
    Runtime.exec ("program arg1 arg2");
    but in some cases the commands are built into the shell, so you have to do
    Runtime.exec ("command.com /c copy myfile here");
    "copy" is one of them, and "echo" is probably one too. The latter should work for all programs and commands, but might involve some overhead as a new instance of 'command' is created and destroyed for every command.

  • Running curl command from a java program using Runtime.getRuntime.exec

    for some reason my curl command does not run when I run it from within my java program and errors out with "https protocol not supported". This same curl command however runs fine from any directory on my red hat linux system.
    To debug the problem, I printed my curl command from the java program before calling Runtime.getRuntime.exec command and then used this o/p to run from the command line and it runs fine.
    I am not using libcurl or anything else, I am running a simple curl command as a command line utility from inside a Java program.
    Any ideas on why this might be happening?

    thanks a lot for your response. The reason why I am using curl is because I need to use certificates and keys to gain access to the internal server. So I use curl "<url> --cert <path to the certificate>" --key "<path to the key>". If you don't mid could you please tell me which version of curl you are using.
    I am using 7.15 in my system.
    Below is the code which errors out.

              try {
                  // run the Unix "ps -ef" command

                     BufferedReader stdError = new BufferedReader(new
                          InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream()));
                     // read the output from the command
                     System.out.println("Here is the standard output of the command:\n");
                     while ((s = stdInput.readLine()) != null) {

    Hi there...I would like to know how do you a program using the command line in oracle9i JDeveloper...coz my program is processing the input typed from the user.How do you run in oracle9i Jdeveloper.

    If you mean as commandline parameter, then you need to modify your runtime configuration for the project.

  • Execute external java command line in Java

    But I can not get any result ( It does not create file test.svg) . the code is as follow
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java -jar c:/XSLT/saxon7.jar ../webapps/wfscontroller/gml.xml ../webapps/wfscontroller/SVG.xsl > ../webapps/wfscontroller/test.svg");
    If I execute "java -jar c:/XSLT/saxon7.jar ../webapps/wfscontroller/gml.xml ../webapps/wfscontroller/SVG.xsl > ../webapps/wfscontroller/test.svg" in DOS command. it works.
    Anybody knows what happened?
    Many thanks in advance.

    The > is interpreted by the shell. When you use Runtime.exec, you don't go through the shell, you exec the executable directory. So when you exec that command, you're passing ">" as an argument to "java -jar c:/...", and chances are the main() method in that doesn't interpret ">".
    So the upshot is you can't use ">", "|", "<", etc., that you can in a shell, with Runtime.exec().
    Other options are to run a batch file which invokes that command line.
    Or, you can get the standard output from the exec'ed process, and save it to a new file yourself.
