Running a function against a table

Hi,
I need to be able to run a function against a table column that would update the value in the column. I'm not sure about the syntax I would use to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

I have created a function that replaces a digit in the middle of a VARCHAR(14) field base on certain criteria.
I would like to be able to call the function to update the rows.
I have tried to use the syntax listed above but I am receiving the error:
The multi-part identifier "dbo.GenerateCheckDigit" could not be bound.
The syntax I am using is
UPDATE
Table1
SET Col1 = dbo.GenerateCheckDigit
Any guidance would be appreciated.

you need to include column information
ie
UPDATE
Table1
SET Col1 = dbo.GenerateCheckDigit(Col1)
I assume function accepts a single parameter and does the replace over it.

Using Crystal XI
I have a report that draws from two data sources. They can't be joined at the server side, but they are linked in Crystal Database Expert.
I can't figure out if Crystal gives me a way to write an SQL Query to run an aggregate function referencing both tables. The results of this query would be the datasource for a graph in the report. I'm wondering if Crystal gives me a way, maybe through subreports, to write the query I need.
More concretely:
And I want to include in my datasource alarmId, Hour and the Maximum amount of calls received in any one hour for any one station (this maximum is to provide scale for a graph)
In one table nameed AlarmStartTimes I have data like

In another I have data like

So if I could just join my talbes at the server side I'd use a query like:
select *, max(select count(AlarmID) from Alarms, EELocation from Alarms Join EELocationo on Alarms.Recipient=EELocation.Recipient group by Hour, Location) AS from Alarms
Anyway, that's probably got a syntax error or 4 in it, but you get the idea.
I can't group on the database side. Since Crystal is able to link the two tables and successfully group them out by Location, it seems like there should be some way for me to run a query against the tables reflecting that existing link, but I can't see how to do it.
The reason I can't link on database side is that the data is in two databases, and it's not known what the location of the databases is at report-writing time. The location of the databases gets set via the Crystal API when the report is launched from an application.

Since you have 2 datasource in the report you are limited on what you can use in crystal, such as crystal will not allow you to use sql expressions.

How to use one query against multiple table and recieve one report?

I have duplicate tables, (except for their names of course) with commodities prices. They have the same column headings, but the data is different of course. I have a query that gives me a certain piece of information I am looking for but now I need to run this query against every table. I will do this every day as well, to see if the buying criteria is met. There are alot of tables though (256). Is there a way to say run query in all tables and return the results in one place? Thanks for your help.

b. you can use all_tables in order to write a select that will write the report for you:

Run queries against system tables for oracle BPEL processes

I want to run queries against system tables for oracle BPEL processes. It is becoming very difficult for me to us EM as it is very slow,
and not all the time, it is sufficient for our needs.
We are doing load testing and we want find out info like how many requests came in and how many faulted and what time is taken by each request...
So do any of you have the query that I can use and tables that I need to go against?

Use the BPEL hydration database table "cube_instance".
There should be plenty of example in the forum regarding this table.

I need to run a map against table on a particular dataset (WHERE clause) - how can i do it in OWB?
The map is loading data from table A into table B (doing all sorts of wierd and wonderful things in between). Now table A had more (a lot more) data added which i have to load into table B.
How can i modify my map so that it only runs agains this newly added data (normally i would do a where clause).
i cannot find how to do it in OWB :(
The map i am runnig is fairy complex so i didn't really want have to create another table/view of the data i need then remap in all etc.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well that is the thing - records are constantly added to table A all the time and then undergo tramsformations and loaded into table B. What i want to do is somehow indicate in the the map to only run agains records that have beed added (colmn2 = 'value').
At the moment i created a view for the desired dataset (colm2 = 'value') and remapped everything. But it is a bit of a pain:
1) there are a lot of functions and each takes a number of columns (i have some functions taking up to 6 diff columns)
2) i have data loaded to table A all the time and i need to then transform and load it to table B. so i try to aviod doing the whole re-mapping thing all the time.
In TOAD it would be a simple statment 'where colm2 = 'value' and all my functions will be run agains those records that satisfy the condition. How can i do it in OWB?
If i use filter - i would have to use 'mid' table where filtered records will be loaded and from that use 'mid' table as table A in the map. does this make sense?
the main disadvantage is the performance - moving data from one table to 'mid' table etc.
I tried using conditional load filter and it still doesn't do what i want.
After trying diff options i decided to ask people here about it. The only thing i have left to try is to ask Oracle support. I am sure it would be a 'user knowledge' as i am sure this functionality exist i just can't find any references to it.

I have a Datasource 'ZCMS_PP_TRAN' with extract structure 'ZBW_ST_CMSD_PP'. The extract structure is populated using the function module Z_BW_GET_CMSD_PP.
But how do I schedule this FM or in general, are they run using std programs?

what ever it may be the DS(i mean Business Content DS, Generic DS).... these will extract the Data using Dynamic Function Calls(not always). Comming to Generic DS using FM, this will be called using Dynamic Function Module.
In RSA3 or while extracting data from BW, you will pass request number, Update Mode, debugging option, selection fields, BW source System ID, DS Name.
Based on these details system will extract the underlying extract structure and function module(or table/view/infoset).
No job(Job created from BW while extracting data in the source system BI_requestid) created for Generic DS while extracting data in SAP.
For Queue Delta, Background job will be created, it will move the data to Delta Queue.
i will update the thread with related function modules. Try to debugg in RSA3, you could find all the information.

Update partner function in KNVP table using FM sd_customer-maintain_all

I had already created a BDC program for updating which is running successfully.
But my requirement is to create a BAPI using FM customermaintain_all.

Recursive query for finding parents and children against two tables

Hi I have two tables where the data is stored hierarchially.
I have found using connect_by, level and other oracle functions doing its job when the data is in one table.
Can I traverse against two tables by using the same oracle functions.
My Table A can go 2 levels deep in my hierarchy and level 3 and so forth has to be done against a different table.
Appreciate your insight..

The number of levels that I can traverse in the first table is dynamic (sometimes 2 levels and sometimes 3 levels and actually no level limit) and then has to dynamically start looking at second table for finding any more levels in the other table.
I was able to implement them seperately and union them.
I was more looking for a comprehensive solution to reduce the number of lines that I have to maintain...

Running Aggregate Functions, Attribute or Measure?

Hi Guys:
I wonder if this is a bug in BIEE 11g? I am using 11.1.1.6.
My requirement is quite simple, I have a measure, and I want to show this measure as a cumulative curve by month. For example, let's suppose there are three columns in Criteria:
Month, Amount, RSUM(Amount)
Then I plot a curve by RSUM(Amount) vs. Month. In BIEE 10, there is no problems. However in 11.1.1.6, I got an error. I look into the table and found that, after using running aggregate functions, like RSUM or MSUM, the column becames Attribute, instead of Measure. In other word, although I can see the RSUM(Amount) column in Criteria page shows a yellow icon, it turns into blue in Results page! Since it becames Attributes in Results page, I cannot drag RSUM(Amount) into Measures area in Line Graph. I can see the correct values in Table view, but got error in Line Graph view.
Why the column properties are different between Criteria and Results? And are there any workaround to plot a cumulative curve? I dont want Parete graph.

I do not think this is any bug in .6 and I just gave a try successfully to confirm that too. My test case follows
1. Created an analysis with Period.Month and Measures.Value
2. Added another measure and changed the formula of Measures.Value as RSUM(Measures.Value) and still see it to be a measure as expected.
3. Navigated to results section and added all kind of graphs to notice that it is behaving as expected.
Can you let us know, what error are you hitting at in the graph?

TCA Java APIs not able to validate input against LOOKUP table

Hi there,
I am using the TCA Java APIs to create new source system references like so:
HzOrigSystemRefPub wrapper = new HzOrigSystemRefPub();
wrapper.createOrigSystemReference(connection, "T", record, x_return_status, x_msg_count, x_msg_data);
The record has the following attributes set:
l_orig_sys_reference_rec.created_by_module := 'TCA_V2_API';
l_orig_sys_reference_rec.owner_table_name := 'HZ_PARTIES';
When I run my java code however, the call returns an error saying that the values I have mentioned in the above two attributes were not in my lookup tables:
1. Value for owner_table_name must be a value defined in lookup type TCA_OWNER_TABLE.
2. Value for created_by_module must be a value defined in lookup type HZ_CREATED_BY_MODULES.
When I run queries directly against the database in SQLDeveloper, I am able to find these values. They do exist.
For some reason, when using the Java API, it cannot find the lookup values.
I even tried calling the PL/SQL API from Java and the same problem exists.
Is this a bug?
Can anyone please help me?

OK, solved my own problem.
The solution is to set the language environment variable to 'AMERICAN'.
It's a known bug.
Set it from your Java code like this:

-------"ALTER SESSION SET NLS_LANGUAGE = 'AMERICAN'");
setter.execute();
Now any calls after this statement to the Java APIs will work.

simply look in transaction SE11.
Example:
1. SE11 -> Table CDPOS - Display. On Tab 'Delivery and Maintenance' you'll find Pool/Cluster 'CDCLS'.
2. SE11 -> Table CDCLS -> Display. On next screen position on CDCLS-> Where-used-list -> Tables -> you'll find tables CDPOS and PCDPOS.
Same thing with EDID4 -> EDI40 ...

Currently I am working on VBA excel to create a widget to verify coordinates whether it lies under the radius of ANOTHER predefined and pre-specified sets of coordinates.

As written the function assumes values for each of deg/min/sec are included with unit indicators as given. Adapt for your needs.
In passing, for any work with trig functions you will probably need to convert the degrees to radians.

Workbook not refresh after running Planning Function (BI-IP)

Step 2: I have to Run Process Variables again and input the same selection in the pop-up variables

Can I have some coding in the Layouts of Bex Analyzer to refresh the data after running Planning Function?

I had a similar problem that the resuls of my planning function were not automatically shown. Only if I did "something else" like saving or running another function the results were displayed.
I think I solved it by upgrading my SAP GUI6.4 with patch 14. the results of planning functions should be automatically displayed.

I have an app that crashes when I run one function, but no one else I know with the same app experiences the crash. I checked my Diagnostics

I have an app called Astrogold that crashes when I run one function, but no one else I know with the same app experiences the crash. The app writes several different reports, and gives the option of sending them as PDF files. All the other reports generate fine, but one of them....and that one crashes the app while it is trying to generate the report.
Note: it only crashes the display. If I double click the home button I see the app itself is still running.
I checked my Diagnostics & Usage data, and noticed that every time the app crashes a LowMemory report is created. I looked at the LowMemory report and see that the Largest process is Astrogold. But I don't see any reports with the name of the app itself.
I have an iPhone 5c, and according to iTunes I have 2.25 GB Free.

This is the only thing I had not done before I posted my initial request for help. I will work on that....it's a last resort I was hoping not to do, but it sounds like I've already done everything else.

Error while running IP function on BEx

Hello Experts,
I was trying to run Planning Function "Revaluation" from BEx work book with using BEx formula variable.
But I have get below error message:
*"An error occurred while communicating with the BI server"*
*"As a result of this error, the system has been disconnected from the BI server."*
*"Exception condition "INPUT_NOT_LEGAL" raised. "
My other functions and FOX are successfully running from BEx. And this specific revaluation function also runs on RSPLAN environment when I try to test under planning Sequence.
If any one has any idea about this error. I will be glad to get his/her opinion.
