Running a .jar with a java program on unix

I am trying to run a jar file with this java code but when i run it, it comes up with built successfully but the file doesn't run.
ps- I use a unix os
public class Main {
public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException, InterruptedException {
// first method i tried:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec( new String[] {"/bin/sh", "-c",
"/Users/cb/NetBeansProjects/MultiCalc/dist/MultiCalc.jar output.out ascii workload2.trace 0"});
//second method i tried:
ProcessBuilder pb = new ProcessBuilder( new String[] {"/bin/sh", "-c",
"/Users/cb/NetBeansProjects/MultiCalc/dist/MultiCalc.jar"});
pb.redirectErrorStream( true );
pb.start();
thanks a lot in advance!

thanks a lot in advance!I don't see any mention of 'java' when trying to execute the jar file. You have to specify which application should process a jar file - it doesn't magically know to use java.
P.S. You should read the 4 sections of [http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html|http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html] and implement ALL the recommendations.

  • How does one run a *.exe with a Java program?

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a way to run an executable (*.exe) or batch file (*.bat) from within a Java program.
    Any suggestions, leads, or examples appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Runtime.getRuntime.exec("pathTo/yourapp.exe");
    For any type of interpreted scripts, the interpreter should be added:
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec({ "command.com", "mybat.bat"});
    or
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec({"/bin/sh", "configure.sh"});

  • Running curl command from a java program using Runtime.getRuntime.exec

    for some reason my curl command does not run when I run it from within my java program and errors out with "https protocol not supported". This same curl command however runs fine from any directory on my red hat linux system.
    To debug the problem, I printed my curl command from the java program before calling Runtime.getRuntime.exec command and then used this o/p to run from the command line and it runs fine.
    I am not using libcurl or anything else, I am running a simple curl command as a command line utility from inside a Java program.
    Any ideas on why this might be happening?

    thanks a lot for your response. The reason why I am using curl is because I need to use certificates and keys to gain access to the internal server. So I use curl "<url> --cert <path to the certificate>" --key "<path to the key>". If you don't mid could you please tell me which version of curl you are using.
    I am using 7.15 in my system.
    Below is the code which errors out.

  • How to run JavaFX Jar with JRE 7 on MAC OS Lion 10.7.5 ?

    I had java 1.6 installed on my MAC OSX Lion 10.7.5. When I am trying to run that JavaFX application jar
    java -jar application.jar
    It always shows a dialog "The application require a newer version of Java Run-time" with download link. Even I have downloaded and successfully installed it on my MAC machine but it still shows me the same window.
    It installed jre-7u10-macosx-x64.dmg but java -version is always point to 1.6.
    Then I searched for Java Preferences to point the current JRE 1.7 but I could find Java Preferences at Applications -> Utilities -> Java -> Java Preferences.
    I found an Java Icon on System Preference. When I am trying to open that widow it's showing me error -- the java control panel opens in a separate window and nothing happens when we click on Re-open the Java Control Panel.

    I would like to know -- how to run JavaFX jar with JRE7 on MAC OS Loin 10.7.5? Is their any other way to run the JavaFX application JAR with JRE7?

    To find a copy of LP7 you would need to look for a copy on eBay.. However, the protection method used with LP7 no longer functions so you cannot register it and therefore you cannot use it. unless you have already registered LP7 yourself in the past using the security key dongle provided
    Any version of LP7 from a torrent would be an illegal (and most likely non working) version due to the protection that was used at that time... and so posting about it here, was not be wise.
    So.. thats why my previous answer was so brief... Simply put, you cannot use LP7 unless you already have a validated and registered security dongle... even if you found a copy of LP7 somewhere
    The only practical solution is to find some kind soul who already has a working version of LP7 installed, that you can send the projects to... for them to do the conversion for you.
    I would, but I no longer have LP7 installed here on any of my testbed Macs...

    Do I need to download the whole JAVA 1.7 on MAC to run the JAR? No
    Can not I run the Jar file with Jre7?Yes, you can.
    This may be because I have downloaded the JRE 1.7Yep, that's correct, the java_home command only works for jdk's - sorry for the confusion.
    For jre7+ versions, only a single Oracle jre version is allowed to be installed on the machine at a time - making a tool like java_home redundant for jre checking.
    Weirdly, jre7u10 does not supplant the Apple Java on the command line path by default. If you just type java -v, then the Apple java version will displayed if you have an old Java 6 from Apple and a new Oracle jre7+.
    The Oracle jre is always located under (also somewhat strangely):
    /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/javaTo test jar launching, I used the willow JavaFX browser pre-release jar available here:
    http://code.google.com/p/willow-browser/downloads/detail?name=Willow-0.1-prerelease.jar
    Then I launched the jar from the command line using:
    /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -jar Willow-0.1-prerelease.jar The JavaFX jar ran fine on jre7 with the above machine.
    The test machine was running Mac OS X 8 with Oracle jre7u10 installed as well as the Apple Java 6 runtime, but no Oracle jdk7+ installed.

  • Writing into a jar file through Java program

    Is there a way to get a file from a jar (for ex. a properties file) make changes to it on the fly and write the same file back to the jar through a Java program?

    I cannnot give u exact code as i am bit busy..but i am giving close to exact
    below is code for reading contents of jar file
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.jar.*;
    public class JarRead {
    public static void main (String args[])
    throws IOException {
    if (args.length != 2) {
    System.out.println(
    "Please provide a JAR filename and file to read");
    System.exit(-1);
    JarFile jarFile = new JarFile(args[0]);
    JarEntry entry = jarFile.getJarEntry(args[1]);
    InputStream input = jarFile.getInputStream(entry);
    process(input);
    jarFile.close();
    private static void process(InputStream input)
    throws IOException {
    InputStreamReader isr =
    new InputStreamReader(input);
    BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(isr);
    String line;
    while ((line = reader.readLine()) != null) {
    System.out.println(line);
    reader.close();
    now here say u have test.jar which contains test.txt (file)
    then
    java JarRead test.jar test.txt
    will print content of text.txt
    now in ur case u write content of each file in some other file modify it there and then create a jar file from those files using jaroutput stream .....
    this may not be all clear ..but what to do..bit busy...u are welcomed to make changes in above stratergy....n queries if any after using above stratergy and/or your great brain...

  • Java program in UNIX environment

    Hi All,
    Could you please help me with how to configure a java program in UNIX environment..
    that is to schedule it to run every day from cron..
    I need to know what are the basic things we require to achieve the above..
    I guess it is:
    A script
    A config file containing db login details
    oher than this I don?t know what is required plz help

    You can execute any jar or class file with cron. If you are using a jar you might use something like java -jar /usr/bin/myapp.jar .
    I use Linux, this is my area of expertise.
    Here is an online guide "for complete newbies" on how to set up cron.
    http://www.unixgeeks.org/security/newbie/unix/cron-1.html
    Hope it helps.

  • Execute java program on UNIX

    I have no experience on Unix and I now need to try to execute my java program on UNIX server to which I connect using telnet. I have copy my source file to the server and I could run the javac command to compile my source code.
    In the current directory, I just execute "javac mySource.java"
    And I got my .class file on the same directory. But when I tried to execute "java mySource", I got NoClassDefFoundError. I think it has something to do with classpath. But I just don't know how to do it in UNIX. Please someone assist me. Thanks.

    Or setenv CLASSPATH $CLASSPATH:/your/classpath/here if you are running csh.

  • Signing a jar file with a java program

    Hello folks,
    It's easy to create a jar file with a java programm, but can I sign it as well with pure java code or do you have to invoke jarsigner?
    Regards
    Der Hinterwaeldler

    Well J2SE 1.x supports ZipOutputStream (jar's are zips with a META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file) and www.bouncycastle.org has API's for signing etc.
    So in theory you could take a directory or an existing jar and make a jar and sign it.
    The only question is the format on how to sign them properly. I wouldn't be suprised if someone already wrote an API for this format. For example BouncyCastle supports S/MIME and PGP, but I don't know what is the format for jars.

    [Bug ID 4711700|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4711700] is eerily similar to what you're experiencing. Although the bug was reported against an older version of the JDK the last comment provides a workaround to the problem that may be helpful. Good luck.

  • Running a .jar from a C# program...

    I'm posting this question in a C# forum as well, but I thought I'd post it here as well because I suspect this might be a Java problem as much as it is a .NET / C# problem.
    I'm trying to run a .jar program via a C# program. I've created a C# program that will run and successfully call the .jar. That's the easy part. However, when the .jar is called, nothing happens. I created a .bat file that will run the .jar file so it will open a command prompt (so I can see what's happening). I changed my C# program to call the batch file. The batch file opens, executes, and gives me an error message. The error is: "Unable to access jarfile myProgram.jar"
    Any ideas on what my problem may be? Am I going about this completely the wrong way? Do I need to do something specific to allow the .jar to run?

    "Unable to access jarfile myProgram.jar"
    It seems obvious to me that you are assuming the
    batch script's current working directory is not what
    it really is.
    Add this to the script:
    cdto have it tell you what the current directory is,
    and that should clue you in.I'm not that familiar with batch scripting...I'm glad someone is!
    Here's what my .bat file looks like:
    @echo off
    echo Press enter to run the program
    pause
    java -jar myProgram.jar
    pauseWhere in here should I do the cd?
    EDIT: By the way, the .bat and the .jar are (and will always be) in the same folder.

  • Running a process within a java program

    Hi
    I have code that runs a process for performance monitoring on an installed system. When I run the code standalone as below, it runs fine. If I include the code below inside another java program, the process fails to execute and the status returned is non-zero (failed to execute).
    The process requires the PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH to be set which seem to be set correctly when i print them out. So, I am not sure why the process doesnot run when included within another running java program.
    Can someone please point out what I maybe missing?

    Either set up a script before the program runs or have the
    program write a script file which contains the statements
    that need to be executed. Then you will be able to
    execute the script with a call to
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec()Mark

  • Run dial-up connection from Java Program?

    Is there a way to run dial-up connection from a Java Program? It needs to platform independent.
