Running a Sun Cluster on one system using containers

Hello,
We would like to set up a test Sun Cluster Environment on one system using containers.
Has any one done this ? Is there documentation in the sun community on how to do this ?
Thank you

You can not install/configure a cluster just between non-global zones on the same physical node. The cluster software always needs to be installed in the global zone.
What you can do is install Solaris Cluster just on one physical node (a single-node cluster) and then you can configure native non-global zones and configure resource groups to failover between those non-global zones on the same node.
The resource group has a nodelist property, where you can configure node:zonea, node:zoneb - which will allow that RG to failover between zonea and zoneb on the same node.
A good start if your purpose is just to have a learning/development/experiment environment.

  • Unity cluster with one node using name and the other using iP

    Hey Guys,
I have two unity connection boxes setup in a cluster, one is know by name and the other by IP address. I'd like to change so that both are using the IP address. The node in the cluster that is using the node name is the publisher. Can I simply go into the cluster settings and change that to an IP address or will that cause big issues.
    Thanks,
    BR

    Hi Brent,
Is there any specific reason why you would want to do this kind of configuration? (Just Curious to know)
I tried doing the same on my Unity Connection cluster (version 8.5(1) SU2 ) in lab.
After making the change in the cluster settings page for the Pub , I did the following :
1)Switch the Primary Role back and forth between the Pub and the Sub :  SUCCESS
2)Checked the service status on the pub and sub using "utils service list" : ALL GOOD
3)Rebooted the Pub followed by the Sub and performed test 1 and 2 again : SUCCESS
4)Checked the output of "show cuc cluster status" on the Pub and Sub again: SUCCESS
However, I could not find any document that says this change is really required under any circumstances.
    I hope that helps!!!

  • Running JMS Client Programs on Multiple Systems using J2EE1.4

    Hi all,
I have 1 message producer and about 100 clients on different systems in the network which receive the messages.
At the moment I am running a J2EE1.3 server on the sender side and the client programs are startet with -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost=sender hostname to access the remote system.
    My problems:
    1. I upgraded my client program to java1.5 , but jdk1.5.0_01/jre/lib/rt.jar doesn't contain com/sun/corba/se/internal/util/JDKBridge -> it`s not possible to execute corba calls any more.
    2. If you upgrade J2EE1.3 to J2EE1.4 sender and receiver system must both be running the J2EE Application Server, but I want only the the sender system to run J2EE.
I have no idea how to solve these problems and would be happy about every assistance.
    Thanks,
    Elke

    Hi
I would suggest posting this into the J2EE 1.4 (application server) forum. You will have a better chance of getting help there, since, while your application is JMS based, it is not a JMS issue.

  • Run specific published app in one collection using different credentials

    Hi,
I have a collection of published apps using rdweb with apps accessed by and run by a user in a group. I was wondering how i can allow one of the apps in the users rdweb to be launched using alternate credentials.
I.e. i log on as userA. I get my list of allowed apps in RDWeb. Among those apps is an app, let's call it AppX. I want that app to be launched using credentials of a user account named userB.
I know this is possible using citrix xenapp on server 2008 R2. Can it be done on native RDS 2012 R2 (no citrix)?
This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights

You could create a custom rdp file as described here -> http://tech.jesseweeks.me/2013/07/configuring-custom-rdp-shortcuts-for.html
Add or change the "prompt for credentials on client:i:1" line to the rdp file in step 7.
distribute the rdp file to the user.

  • Very disapointed, SP13 doesn't runs on SUN Cluster!!

Hello, this is the 3rd time that we tried to install a support package in our productive SAP Enterprise Portal (SP10, SP12, SP13), and fails again.
We restore the SP09 backup, and doesn't work also, and now we haven't portal!
How is possible this? We are very disapointed, SAP support can't solve the problem.
I have a published blog with more comments about this:
    http://rafaelco.blogspot.com

I have succefully installed SP 9, SP 12 and SP 13 in SUN Solaris 9, with many problems as well but It worked at the end.
If you tell me what kind of problems do you are you facing, maybe I can help.

  • File System Sharing using Sun Cluster 3.1

    Hi,
I need help on how to setup and configure the system to share a remote file system that is created on a SAN disk (SAN LUN ) between two Sun Solaris 10 servers.
The files in the remote system should be read/writabe from both the solaris servers concurrently.
As a security policy NFS mount is not allowed. Some one suggested it can be done by using Sun Cluster 3.1 agents on both servers. Any details on how I can do this using Sun Cluster 3.1 is really appreciated.
    thanks
    Suresh

You could do this by installing Sun Cluster on both systems and then creating a global file system on the shared LUN. However, if there was significant write activity on both nodes, then the performance will not necessarily what you need.
What is wrong with the security of NFS? If it is set up properly I don't think this should be a problem.
The other option would be to use shared QFS, but without Sun Cluster.

  • Migrating a Sun Cluster Running Oracle to New Hardware

Has anyone attempted this? Essentially we are moving a Sun Cluster from one location to hardware at another location while maintaining the same node names. From what I can tell, I need to (on an install lan):
    1) Load the OS
    2) Configure the IPs
    3) Install Sun Cluster
    4) Install Oracle Parallel Server/RAC
    5) Restore the data on a per node basis
    6) Restore the shared data
    7) Adjust, tweak, and run
Are there any pitfalls or suggestions on the approach? The shop is relatively new to clustering much less oracle clustering and the original cluster was installed by admins gone bye.

I would say that Apple should be able to update your 36-months maintenance agreement with a OSXS 10.4 serial number.
As far as I know, the structure of 10.3 and 10.4 serial numbers is different (wasn't the case between 10.2 and 10.3) so I'm short of a technical answer here.
    Maybe you could try :
    /System/Library/ServerSetup/serversetup -setServerSerialNumber xxxx-xxx-xxx-x-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-x
in a Terminal window on the server. It's theorically the same as using Server Admin but maybe this could help.

  • Sun Cluster + meta set shared disks -

Guys, I am looking for some instructions that most sun administrators would mostly know i believe.
I am trying to create some cluster resource groups and resources etc., but before that i am creating the file systems that is going to be used by two nodes in the sun cluster 3.2. we use SVM.
I have some drives that i plan to use for this specific cluster resource group that is yet to be created.
i know i have to create a metaset since thats how other resource groups in my environment are setup already so i will go with the same concept.
    # metaset -s TESTNAME
Set name = TESTNAME, Set number = 5
    Host Owner
    server1
    server2
    Mediator Host(s) Aliases
    server1
    server2
    # metaset -s TESTNAME -a /dev/did/dsk/d15
metaset: server1: TESTNAME: drive d15 is not common with host server2
    # scdidadm -L | grep d6
    6 server1:/dev/rdsk/c10t6005076307FFC4520000000000004133d0 /dev/did/rdsk/d6
    6 server2:/dev/rdsk/c10t6005076307FFC4520000000000004133d0 /dev/did/rdsk/d6
    # scdidadm -L | grep d15
    15 server1:/dev/rdsk/c10t6005076307FFC4520000000000004121d0 /dev/did/rdsk/d15
Do you see what i am trying to say ? If i want to add d6 in the metaset it will go through fine, but not for d15 since it shows only against one node as you see from the scdidadm output above.
Please Let me know how i share the drive d15 same as d6 with the other node too. thanks much for your help.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. You got me wrong. I am not asking you to be liable for the changes you recommend since i know thats not reasonable while asking for help. I am aware this is not a support site but a forum to exchange information that people already are aware of.
We have a support contract but that is only for the sun hardware and those support folks are somewhat ok when it comes to the Solaris and setup but not that experts. I will certainly seek their help when needed and thats my last option. Since i thought this problem that i see is possibly something trivial i quickly posted a question in this forum.
We do have a test environment but that do not have two nodes but a 1 node with zone clusters. hence i dont get to see this similar problem in the test environment and also the "cldev populate" would be of no use as well to me if i try it in the test environment i think since we dont have two nodes.
I will check the logs as you suggested and will get back if i find something. If you have any other thoughts feel free to let me know ( dont bother about the risks since i know i can take care of that ).

  • What are typical failover times for application X on Sun Cluster

Our company does not yet have any hands-on experience with clustering anything on Solaris, although we do with Veritas and Miscrosoft. My experience with MS is that it is as close to seemless (instantaneous) as possible. The Veritas clustering takes a little bit longer to activate the standby's. A new application we are bringing in house soon runs on Sun cluster (it is some BEA Tuxedo/WebLogic/Oracle monster). They claim the time it takes to flip from the active node to the standby node is ~30minutes. This to us seems a bit insane since they are calling this "HA". Is this type of failover time typical in Sun land? Thanks for any numbers or reference.

This is a hard question to answer because it depends on the cluster agent/application.
On one hand you may have a simple Sun Cluster application that fails over in seconds because it has to do a limited amount of work (umount here, mount there, plumb network interface, etc) to actually failover.
On the other hand these operations may, depending on the application, take longer than another application due to the very nature of that application.
An Apache web server failover may take 10-15 seconds but an Oracle failover may take longer. There are many variables that control what happens from the time that a node failure is detected to the time that an application appears on another cluster node.
If the failover time is 30 minutes I would ask your vendor why that is exactly.
Not in a confrontational way but a 'I don't get how this is high availability' since the assumption is that up to 30 minutes could elapse from the time that your application goes down to it coming back on another node.
A better solution might be a different application vendor (I know, I know) or a scalable application that can run on more than one cluster node at a time.
The logic with the scalable approach is that if a failover takes 30 minutes or so to complete it (failover) becomes an expensive operation so I would rather that my application can use multiple nodes at once rather than eat a 30 minute failover if one node dies in a two node cluster:
    serverA > 30 minute failover > serverB
seems to be less desirable than
serverA, serverB, serverC, etc concurrently providing access to the application so that failover only happens when we get down to a handful of nodes
Either one is probably more desirable than having an application outage(?)

  • Sun cluster quorum disk

    Hi,
I just want to know how to assign quorum disk under Sun cluster. Can I use LUN disk that is shared for both node as quorum disk and do I need to bring the disk first to vxvm control before using it as quorum disk? Appreciate any response/advise.
    Thanks.

No you don't need to bring the disk into VXVM control.
First run scdidadm -L from either node. This will give you a list of shared disk devices. Find one that is shared between the nodes and note its DID. ie d21
    scconf -a -q globaldev=d21
Once you have added a quorum disk you can set install mode to off.
    scconf -c -q installmodeoff
I would also recommend reading this:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/816-3384/6m9lu6fig?q=sun+cluster+add+quorum+disk&a=view
    Then reset you quorum count.
    scconf -c -q reset

  • Can we run essbase 6x & 7x in same system

    Hi,
Is it possible to run essbase 6x & 7x in one system .
if we run any files will corrupt.
    thanks

    Hi Puliga
i would say, ya., this is possible !
we can have 2 servers of different versions on the same machine, infact same drive also.
if you want to have them under different drives, say for a reason like storage space etc, then you'll hvae to toggle between the two versions by changing the arborpath to the one u r currently using in the environmental variables "path"
if there is no such constraint on space, you can actually install them into the same drive and same path, with 2 different folders for two versions and use the servers.
can i do it on productive sites............

    Hi,
I have a requirement that , 2 SAP B1 ADD-ON (Using VB.NET)need to  run in one system  at a  time.
    We use these---
--Same SQL Server and different Databases
    --SAP B1 username are same
--My ADD-ON  is not working in both SAP B1 's.  If  i click any form in  first B1  ,form  is opening on second SAP B1.
Please tell  it is possible  to run multiple SAP B1 in one system.

    Hi.....
    Off course it is possible.
It is possible in case of same DB as well as different DB also.
If you have same DB then you can do it by accessing SAP through different User Codes and if you have different databases then it is possible with same user code also........
    Please check...........

  • SUN Cluster 2.2 behaviour when removing SCSI from A1000

We're running a SUN Cluster 2.2 , 2 node cluster on a SUN E5500 running Solaris 5.8 and Veritas VM.
A1000 Boxes cross connected over SCSI to each node and D1000 dual attached per node.
What would one as cluster behaviour expect if one Node crashes, powering the crashed node off and removing the SCSI cable from the A1000 to the surviving node. Would the surviving node continue to run properly ?
    Thanks

There is potential that the surviving node could panic when termination is lost when the cable is disconnected.
