Running a Web site locally

OS Windows 7, Fire Fox browser: I have downloaded all the files of my Web site to my PC via my Dreamweaver platform so that I can run and edit locally in Dreamweaver. Ok so how do I actually run the site so I can view it on my Dreamweaver platform? Which specific file do I have to run/execute/double click to run the site locally?

Anything unusual if you check the Net log or the Network tab in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+K)?

Note that you need to reload the page (F5 or Ctrl+F5) to create/update the log.

  • Help please ! applet can't run on web site but can on my machine

I had uploaded my applet to some free web site.
The problem is that if I'm trying to open html of applet,
instead applet appears gray area. This happens only if the computer has no PLUG IN or JRE installed. Tell me please if there is some other solution except to download PLUG IN or JRE, because it's not good for the web site user.

I'm no expert on this, but as far as I know you always need a plug in to run applets in a browser (java plug in).

  • Quick graphics posts to web site

I maintain a page with 400x300 screen shots of charts on it.
I like to update it during the day. Many people in my chat room
view the page. What is the quickest way to update it?
At the moment, I have the page open as a Local File. Snagit
saves the screen capture .PNG automatically to the images file for
the web site, locally. I then drag the graphic from there into the
web page. I then hit Shft+Command+U and a dialog box pops up,
asking if I want to save the file and upload dependant files. I
click yes. The uploading takes about 30 seconds for a 22kb file. I
have a cable connection. With FrontPage, this process took about 6
seconds but I was editing direct from the remote host. I know it is
possible to edit direct from the remote host using DW, but the
process for saving that file is not clear, particularly if the
graphic is still on my local computer (FP would upload it
automatically then save the remote file).
Would it be better for me to use my screen capture program
(Snagit) to FTP the screen capture graphic directly to the images
folder of my remote site, then edit the remote page in DW, then
just hit "save" and I'm done?
Just looking for the fastest way. Thanks!

The way I'd do it is use a FileSystemObject
    http://www.brainjar.com/asp/dirlist/
or whatever similar object your back
end supports to just automatically compile whatever files are
    in a given
directory to a web page. Once you have that done, all you
    should need to do
    is upload the image.

  • Can not access local web sites

    Hi,
on my Mac Mini running Lion I cannot access any local web site
    Normally, entering
    http://localhost/~shortname/
would ad least show the index.html page located in the sites (Websites on German systems) folder, which I still can display w/o the webserver running by clicking on it)
However, I get the error message:
"you don't have permission to access /~shortname/ on this server"
This happens in Mountain Lion too, where I started the web server using the Web Sharing preference pane from
    http://clickontyler.com/blog/2012/02/web-sharing-mountain-lion/
Any idea? I need this badly, because I am doing some little web dev
    Thank you

Solved it, turned on FTP on Mountain Lion,
    sudo -s launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist

I am running 10.6.8 and using iweb for my web site. After several SEO analysis they all indicate I need H1-6 header tags. After looking at the source code I see there are none in iweb. Are they necessary to add?  Why would one add these tags and how do I add H Tags to iweb? And are there examples to look at? I am slowly learning about simple web design and assumed that iweb was stand alone without having to write code. Is this one of the reasons iweb is no longer supported? Thanks for looking at this!

A simple text page like this:
    Heading
        sub heading
              text paragraph ....
Is traditionally represented by html tags like:
    <h1>Heading</h1>
         <h2>sub heading</h2>
              <p>text paragraph ... </p>
I would guess that the use of h1-h6 tags helps search engines to understand the structure of a page as the tags imply a certain structure.
This can be compared to more generic tags like <div> that could represent any kind of content - and may be what iWeb uses (you'll have to check yourself).
I would generally recommend that you use some kind of up to date blog/site building tool, perhaps Wordpress or Squarespace (I haven't used either one myself) that support current web technologies - this should reduce your SEO issues and make it easier to properly support mobile/tablet users.

  • This web site must be created on a server that is running Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation. Please choose another Location

Hi all, I installed microsoft sharepoint designer 2010. It was working perfectly up until yesterday when I create a new site, it gave me an error that said " This web site must be created on a server that is running Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation.
Please choose another Location " Now I can't create any sharepoint site and it freaks me out. I tried repairing, unistalling and reinstalling but still i get the same message.

You have to have SharePoint 2010, either SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010, installed somewhere in order to be able to create SharePoint sites with SharePoint Designer 2010. SharePoint Designer 2010 is a client-side product, which is usually
installed on end user machines and then used to connect to a server-side edition of SharePoint 2010 (either of the two I mentioned above) to modify the SharePoint sites hosted on that server-side product.
It is possible to install SharePoint Foundation 2010 on a client operating system (Windows 7), but it is much more likely that a production environment will involve installing SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010 on a server operating system
(Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2) on a central server that can be accessed by multiple users.
If you are looking to do testing, you can either install Foundation on Windows 7, or use a virtualization product such as Hyper-V, VMware Workstation, Virtual Box, to name a few, to build a virtual server hosting SharePoint.
You aren't going to be able to create SharePoint sites with SPD until you have SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010 somewhere for it to connect to, sorry.

  • Using Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8) to host web sites on LAN

I would like to know how to use a Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8 ML) to host web sites on my home network (LAN).
I am developing web sites and previously (before ML) I used my Mac Pro to 'host' the sites I was developing to test them out before publishing them to my hosting package.  That was when I was using 10.7 Lion and theer was an option in the System Preferences to turn web sharing on.
I have since upgraded my Mac client to 10.8 ML and have configured it to do the same - even though there is no System Preferences option for web sharing any more.
I also have a Mac Mini running on my LAN and its been upgraded to OSX Server 10.8.
Im now trying to configure it to host the web sites I am developing but with no success.
I thought it was just a matter of adding them as sites in the Server's Websites panel (see screen shot)
but so far Ive had no success.
On my Mac client I can simply add a folder in the Sites directory and then open the web site by putting http://myhost/~myuser/name-of-folder and it will load the default file in the folder e.g. index.html
How do I achieve the 'same thing' on OSX Server?

    Hi Johnfromglenver,
There are no Mac drivers for the HP Officejet K60 printer. Therefore it is not compatible with the Mac operating systems. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • Web Page composer : Localizing Web Sites

    Hi,
I have done a PoC on Localizing Web Sites in web page composer. As you may be aware localization comes with 2 variants. One is the language and the other is the "Region" variant.
I have created region variants in KM admin and have created Web Content using language and region variants. I am able to see the language variants working successfully when the user changes the language.
But how do I get the region variants to work? Online [documentation|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/46/792f9b608c0ad3e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm] s says "...to select the ....region for displaying Web pages, select Personalize in the portal masthead...".
               My challenge is...
              1) How do I get to view and select the "regions" i have created in KM to show up in User Personalization ?
              2) My UME is on ABAP stack. How do I get this to work ?
Any help on this will be much appreciated!
    Regards,
    Winston

    Hi Winston,
To enable end user selection by end user of region, check the configuration steps [here|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/46/71b0701a3601dce10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm] under the section titled Selection by user: Adding an iView for personalizing the region in the portal.
    Hope this helps.

Then there is something seriously wrong with either your
    browser
    Windows
    Internet connection
I have just downloaded that installer (on Windows 7, using Pale Moon), and the download completed within less than 10 seconds.  And I am some 10,000km away from the Adobe download servers.
Can you try a different browser?
Can you download anything to your computer, e.g. from Microsoft?

The web site just runs you around in circles, never getting to the answer of how to print out contacts.  I'm sure the marketing people and web creators just love this Frankenstein monster they have built, but for me and my phone, it's just a huge pain in the ***!  Do they plan to fix this, or just let us dinosaurs go away and die?

there is a point : no workie
how hard would it be to place my (or yours I am told) iPhone4S on a city block curb………..
and just walk away.. .. ..

    Hello
I’ve managed to get it to work now but not as straightforward as I’d have liked and difficult to find out how to get help.

This is the last version of Firefox which will work with PPC Macs. <br/> http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Frequently get error "Firefox is already running" when using desktop shortcuts to web sites

I love Firefox and don't want to use another browser. I frequently get the error "Firefox is already running". I even created a batch file to kill the process so I can re-launch it. There has to be a real solution.
The key to my issue is... I use shortcuts to web sites from my desktop. This is what seems to trigger the error (but not every time). Please don't tell me to stop using shortcuts; that isn't a solution.
    I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit
Firefox 32.0.1 (had this same problem with all prior versions too)
    Any help is appreciated!

    Separate issue;
    Your System Details shows;
    Installed Plug-ins
    Shockwave Flash 15.0 r0
    Shockwave Flash 14.0 r0
Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.
Flash is notorious for not cleaning out the older version as part of an update.
    Grab the uninstaller from here:
'''[http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html Uninstall Flash Player | Windows]'''
'''[http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html Uninstall Flash Player | Mac]'''
    Then reinstall the latest version.
    Shockwave Flash '''v15.0.0.152 http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/'''
fixed last link as it incorrectly was for shockwave player instead of the proper flash player. If it has shockwave in a adobe link then that is not Flash.
