Running application from installer in vista prevents drag and drop

Running a desktop application from Vista and Windows 7 through a wizzard, prevents doing a drag and drop from the desktop or another windows explorer to our java application.
We are using a windows wizard to install the application once it finishes it launches the application within the application the drag and drop work perfectly, but I can not drag from desktop or external windows explorer into my application, dragging from the application to the desktop or to another windows explorer is working fine.
If we run the application by clicking directly on the exe file (generated by the installer app), the application launches and do not present the anomaly (Drag and drop into a out side the applications work fine).
So the issue might be related to the way the installer executes the application, that maybe have a different configuration or windows permissions are not set correctly when started by the installer.
Both ways of launching the application have the same working directory the only difference i found was in the system environment (System.getenv()) the one that works has a SESSIONNAME key with a CONSOLE value in it, could this be the problem?
Any idea on how to workaround this issue or some idea to look at the installer will be kindly appreciated.

One idea is to use [Java Webstart|http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/index.jsp] *(<- link)* as your installer. It might not fix the D'n'D problem, but at least if you get to the point of telling Sun about it, they will care (at least) one iota about fixing it.

I am having a number of issues including loss of import functionality from scanner, I can't drag and drop photos into the editor any more as well, or at least not after the first one. The crop function stops working after the first couple of photos. Then some freezing. A little added crashing. A plethora of other bizarre issues as well. This just stated happening a couple of days ago.
What I have tried:
Uninstall/Install.
Deleted preferences both before opening Editor (crontrol-alt-delete) and after opening it.
Kindly advise. Thanks!

OK! Check it, like I said in previous posts I seemed to have narrowed it down to specific mp3s not converting and playing in their native sample rate which if paired with another sample would give you the "audio midi sync" error and basically screw up your clock! It appears mp3 files converting to mp3 using iTunes would not convert to the correct sample rate if set to something other than 44 in logic and cause this. A tad peculiar Apple iTunes won't work with Apple Logic. I was able to confirm this on two mac's via my friend in Florida. He's running Tiger and tried the same experiment and Booya! Mickey Mouse! It appears this insane week long adventure has came to an end (...god willing) with a super specific unlucky shot in the dark on my part finally revealed to be an perfectly normal function of Logic (obviously one i'm not fond of..) As far as the errors / crashes / system overloads / kernal panics I think I can sort those out to the mackie onyx satellite not being a good choice and trying to add and remove firewire devices in the middle of the sample rate mayhem. Wow! all I can say is, I'm glad it's over

Preventing drag and drop

I've been working very hard to keep my play lists organized and every so often I'll accidentally drag and drop one play list into another. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I like the power to be able to drag groups of songs and such but I don't want to be able to just click on a play list's name and drag and drop it into another one. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is no way to prevent it, and no "Undo" if you do it accidentally. Sorry.
As an experiment, go to your Settings in Control Panel and try a lower pixel count. This may make the display and associated mouse operations a bit less error-prone.

Prevent drag and drop for QT web movies

I've tried protecting QT movies on my web site using kioskmode, like this:

but despite what Apple says, drag and drop remains enabled. Anyone know how to fix that?

If your goal is to "protect" your videos the kioskmode="true" tag will be the weakest link.

You can open and save the file using the Safari (or any other browser) by using the Safari Activity window.
You can also download by dragging the link to the Download window.
I use the Save As Un-Editalbe droplet on some of my files. Needs some work to run on a Tiger OS and you can email me for a copy that is Tiger "ready". Screen name (left) @ mac.com.
But I still don't understand how drag and drop works if the file is "protected" via kioskmode="false" tags.

Drag and Drop of Page from Content Finder into Page Component

Hi,
Does anybody has a sample code for Page component which accepts the page when dragging and dropping from the content finder? Basically I am trying to create a web page with page component on it and customized the content finder to display all the pages that I needed on a separate tab, I am trying to drag and drop the pages from the content finder to the page component of the web page that I created, but it is not working for me. If someone has any sample working code please share it.

Drag and drop install

I have had problems installing updates of a couple of third party programs from the .dmg file using drag and drop, i.e. NoteBook and FireFox. I get the following message when I first try to drag the apps to the Application folder on my HD:
The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.
After logging in and out or restarting, I get this message when I try again:
The operation cannot be completed because the item "Contents" is in use.
I have repaired permissions several times, run Cocktail, downloaded 2 new copies of the FireFox .dmg, and unlocked the login keychain (something I often have to check and do manually), but no luck. I did manage to install the update to NoteBook by dragging the older app to my home folder (not the Applications folder in my Home folder) and replacing it with the new one there. I cannot, however, do that with FireFox - I have tried. What's going on?

I had the same issues with Firefox you did. Here's how I solved them:
1. Made sure any other users on my machine had quit the old version of Firefox.
2. Removed the dock icon for Firefox (grab it and release on desktop to 'poof it')
3. Closed any open Firefox windows and quit the app (had the same issue where I installed to my desktop as well)
4. Moved the desktop install of Firefox 2.0 as well as the Firefox 1.5.x from Applications folder to Trash and emptied it.
5. After this point the drag and drop from the Firefox install DMG file worked fine.
Hope this helps you or someone else.

Iam into implementing drag and drop of cell contents between 2 different tables,say Table1 and Table2.(Iam not dragging and dropping rows or cells,Just copying the content of one cell to another).
Have extended the java tutorial class "TableTransferHandler" and "StringTransferHandler" under http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/examples/dnd/index.html#ExtendedDndDemo to satisfy my needs.
The drag is enabled for Table1 and table2 as follows.

[2]Change cursor on a un-defined Target. That means how to prevent a drag from a particular column in Table1.Also how to prevent a drop to a particular column in Table2. How to change the cursor to a "NO-DRAG" cursoror "NO-DROP" cursor.
Could it be done using Drag Source Listener and drop Target Listener?.
If yes,How can these listeners attached to the table and how to do it?
If No,How Could it be done?
[3]Want to change the background colour of the cell being dragged and also the background colour of the target cell where the drop is made...
[4]Is there any out of the box way to make an undo in the target cell(where drop was made) so that the old cell value is brought back.
How can I extend my code to take care of the above said things.
Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.....

File can not be moved by drag and drop in the finder when not open Finder windows

With the operating system OSX Snow Leopard, it was possible, for example, a file from the desktop to pull drag and drop on the Finder icon, the page opened after a short and you could put the file in a folder.
At this stage I must first open the Finder to drag a file into the destination folder.
Is it a setting or is there anything wrong with my Mountain Lion properly?
It is often the case that several windows of other applications are open or in Fullscreen are, then I would, as I also already knew and am accustomed, for example a file regardless of the location from which drag drag and drop in the Finder without leaving the / program / site to open the Finder, before returning to the file then select I wanted to move.
Note: For all other programs it works.
Finder not only in where it makes the most sense.

   Picture 2: Finder icon flashes but the Finder window does not open. Finder windows have previously by clicking on the icon in the Dock will be open to pull a      file into it.

How can I get drag and drop to work again in iphoto11?

I have created a photo book in iphoto 11 (version 9.3.2) on my imac running os 10.7.5. The drag and drop feature suddenly quit working. I cannot drag/drop photos from an event into the photo book OR within the photo book.
I've restarted the computer to no avail. I've also quit and restarted iphoto.
When I run Console, I see the following errors: iphoto: coredragcrete error -4960 and error in coredragdispose -1850
What should I do to get my drag and drop working again?

I have exactly the same issue as is described in WAD Problem - can't modify and Drag&drop in Web App Designer (WAD) doesn't work but unfortunately I don't have the option of going from IE9 back to IE8. Has anybody found a fix for using drag and drop in WAD with IE9?

This issue I am getting in Web Application Designer itself.In WAD 7.X ANALYSIS TABLE do we have any option from which we can disable drag and drop of cells because it is destroying the view of report output .
In WAD 7.X we have option of Activate Navigation in ANALYSIS TABLE but if we disable this our context will get disable and it shows the default Browser context menu.We have not provided any such options so that its original layout will retain back .
The solution they have mentioned to Disable Drag and Drop is not available in WAD ,its available in Analyzer.
Please let me know if you have found any solution for this.

Premiere Pro CS3: Can't drag and drop into project window

I had been using PP CS3 with Windows 7 64-bit RC successfully for about half a year. Recently I did a clean install of the final, released version of Win 7, and now I cannot drag and drop into the project window.
I am sure I used to be able to do this. Having to import every clip, instead of just dragging it from Bridge (CS4), is a major headache. Ok, a minor one. But is there anything I can do to regain this capability?

I just discovered the problem isn't PP CS3 at all.
The problem is Bridge CS4. Or, more accurately, how I am running it.
In order to do drag and drop from Bridge, it needs to be executed in "Run as administrator" mode.
So, fantastic! There is an quick, easy solution that works.

After installing iTunes 10.5.1, I can no longer drag and drop files into iTunes. Any suggestions?

Basically when I try to drag files from a folder into iTunes, (drag and drop within iTunes is fine) the little picture of the circle with a slash through it shows up and wont allow me to drop it into iTunes. I can't see any logic behind removing the drag and drop function, especially when adding a new folder is now a multi-step process that is far from obvious. to start a new playlist with local folder content you now need to:enter settingsclick into advanced settings (basically all settings now seem to be "advanced"?)manually find and add the foldergo through the adventure of finding the files in your library.

Wacky Drag and Drop issue with JNLP

I'm sure I'll have to be a bit more descriptive but I'll just throw this out and see if anyone has any suggestions.
I've got a swing app which is an administration tool to a rules engine I have built. I distribute the app to users using JNLP 1.2.
Here's the problem. When I launch the app using JNLP, a portion of the app does not work. There is a panel in which I allow users to drag items off of a tree and onto a panel. They can drag and drop one item but when they attempt to drag and drop a second item it doesn't drop. If I take that same code which is being distributed via JNLP, copy it to the local machine and run it, it works. I can drag and drop all day long.
There are no exceptions, no errors or funny gooey state things going on. I start the drag, the mouse pointer changes, I hover of the drop zone and let go of the mouse and it appears to drop, but the component does not show. Wacky.
Does this set off any bells to anyone?

Ah ha.. Yes this does seem to the issue. Thanks for the response. I've tested it on a couple of machines and it works on the one's with 1.4.1 and it doesn't seem to work on 1.4.0 jre machines.
NEW Question though, if I set my .jnlp to:
<j2se version="1.4.1+"/>
I get the 'ol 'Error Code 11 (11 Could not locate requested version'
Is there any way to get this guy to auto-install???
I've installed JRE 1.4.1 manually and it doesn't seem to pick that up either.
