Running Autocad on MBA 2013

Is anyone using MBA 2013 that running AutoCad in Win7 under Parallel Desktop? How's your experience with it? Is it running smoothly?
I have been using MBP 2010 i7 8G Ram that Autocad works perfectly with Win7 under Parallel Desktop. However, its portability is not ideal and I plan to upgrade it to MBA 2013.

It looks like Apple Hardware Test is not on the hard drive, so you need the original DVDs that came with your Mac. If you have not got them, call Apple to get these discs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After getting them, follow these steps to run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
Every Mac has got a different Apple Hardware Test which is included in the DVDs that came with it, or in new Macs, you need to download it from the Internet by holding down Option and D keys while your Mac is starting up.
Make sure your MacBook is plugged to its charger while Apple Hardware Test is running

  • Yosemite on MBA 2013: Incredibly Slow

    Hello All,
Has anyone else noticed how laggy Yosemite is on their MBA 2013s?
I have. This thing used to be a powerhouse with Mavericks.
Specifically, I've noticed that the animations are a lot slower on the new OS and that the battery drains much faster. When doing my scroll to enter into mission control, the animation is choppy. When sliding between backgrounds, it's laggy. The only benefit from the new OS that I've noticed is that my text messages come to my computer as well as my phone.
So, has anyone here found ways to speed up the OS? Hopefully they aren't too complicated.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • To MBA 2013 i5 users: What is the battery life?

    Hey guys,
there are some hot discussions over battery life in MBA 2013 with i7. I personally own one and I can say that 12 hours is nothing close to the truth. Battery life can reach that long when WiFi is turned off, but web browsing is the most basic activity on a computer these days. My MBA gets around 7 hours of battery life when using Internet connection and I feel cheated by Apple.
I'm thinking of exchanging my model to i5 one, but haven't out whether battery life is significantly better or it's same kind of gimmick.

several reports indicate (from reputable testing sites) that 12 hours on the I5 13" are understated, and that 2 hardcore tests indicated just under 13 HOURS, or a hair OVER 13 hours
I have an I5 13", and I dont say with difficulty that batt. life is, in short, crazy / shockinginly fantastic.
My older 2011 Macbook Air i just sold, ......it literally blows my old AIR out of the water powerwise, and writing 1.1GIG Photoshop to the HD, was id say about 40% faster from full install between the 2. (old and new).
I run nonstop youtube (white noise) in the background.....(on firefox, which is a battery hog compared to Safari), and typing, and opening PDF files.........under those conditions, im getting about nearly 12 hours batt. life,  of the 2 times ive actually clocked it.
Ive compared my I5 next to my friend Stefans I7 13", i did same same testing for 5 hours, and his was 28% LESS batt life

  • MBA 2013 shut down without reason after upgrade MAVERICKS

    Hi there ,
I have a new MBA 2013 , till the upgrade to Mavericks (for free) no worries , but today after the upgrade he shutted down unexpectedly twice !!! What's happening here ? Am I the only one having this kind of issue?
    HELP ME
    THX by advance
    Raph from Brussels

    nana4design,
some 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pros are known to have a defective NVIDIA GPU. Since you’re getting GPU panics, yours might be one with the defect. Apple had a gratis servicing program for this model’s defect that lasted for three years from the date of the MacBook Pro’s purchase; they still offer the servicing program, but it is no longer guaranteed to be gratis. I’d recommend making an appointment at your nearest Apple store, to have them run their Video System Test on your MacBook Pro to confirm whether or not its NVIDIA GPU has this defect.

  • K430 Graphics running AutoCAD?

I recently bought a K430 primarily for CAD modeling. I had thought the graphics (AMD 7750) card would easily handle at least 2D modeling, but have had it fail, then recover, about a dozen times in the last two days while running AutoCAD 2013 Architecture.
As 2D modeling does not seem particularly stressfull for it, I am thinking there might be something I'm missing, rather than it's simply not powerful enough.
So far as the Catalyst AMD software says, all the drivers are up to date. Any ideas???

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
Microsoft has pledged to support Windows XP till the year 2014 !
    So no need worrying.
I also would suggest XP over Vista since it is not as 'resource-hungry' than Vista.
    Have Fun

  • I am using for Autocad my Windows HP Laptop. However i want to shift to Apple world and plan to buy new  MBAir 13". Is it has enough power to install bootcamp and run Autocad.

I am using for Autocad my Windows HP Laptop. However i want to shift to Apple world and plan to buy new  MBAir 13". Is it has enough power to install bootcamp and run Autocad?

I don't know, but I would assume that the MBA can install and can run Autocad with Boot Camp.
The question is more, can the software be effectively used with such a small display.
Audocad and vector packages such as Adobe Illustrator are typically run using large screens, so a lack of display real estate may mean the process is frustrating, even if it is possible.
I face the same thing - I am considering an MBA 13" and need to run Illustrator, and that would mean a lot of scrolling.
I  think you would be advised to ensure you bought an MBA with a high specification of processor and memory to give yourself the best chance of success.
Is there a Mac version of Autocad you could switch to, to make for less complication? I've managed to shift all but one of my Windows applications to OS X now, and only occasionally use Windows on the system.

  • I'm running AutoCAD LT 2012 on my powerbook. Has anyone had experience using AutoCAD after installing Mavericks?

I'm running AutoCAD LT 2012 on my Macbook Pro. Has anyone had experience using AutoCAD after installing Mavericks?

Autodesk just released an update for AutoCAD 2013: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-for-Mac/Autocad-2013-compatibility-with-Ma vericks/m-p/4561479
I do not know if a similar one will be required for AutoCAD LT so be sure to check their website.

  • Bootcamp partition/windows7 to run AutoCAD

I need to do a partition of my hard drive. How much disk space should i allow for windows7 to run AutoCAD 2013? Is 100Go enough?

100G is good, but more is always the way and as changing the size later is a pain I suggest that you use what you can, pick a size for the OSX partition that will allow for your needs, the rest goes to Windows.

  • Gaming Performance Increase from Late 2011 MBP to 11 or 13 MBA 2013?

I have a Late 2011 MBP 13,upgraded with 256 GB SSD and 6 GB RAM.
    I play mostly CS:S, SC2, WoW, D3 and that's about it.
I would like to be able to move into SimCity (After Aug 29 Launch Obviously), and perhaps DCUO and The Old Republic (VIA BootCamp)
Would I see a nice jump with the haswell chips in the MBA 2013 model?
If so I might jump, if not I am ok here right now, running wow at low with 30+ FPS.
Just curious, thanks for the advice!

The Late 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro has got an Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU, and the Mid 2013 13-inch MacBook Air has got an Intel HD Graphics 5000 GPU.
The MacBook Air will work better with graphic tasks, but both of them are not ready for heavy use.
If you want to play games like those ones, the best thing you can do is to get a 15-inch MacBook Pro, which includes a quad-core processor and a NVIDIA GPU which will work correctly. The difference will be very big compared to the Mid 2013 MacBook Air.
Also, the MacBook Air is not ready for games. It overheats quickly, and high temperatures damage it. If you get the MacBook Air, don't set high values in games, and make sure that the games you want to play support integrated graphic cards

  • Which Windows OS should I chose to run Autocad/Revit?

I purchased a Mac Book Pro for my son in college (OS 10.5). He needs to run Autocad & Revit for his classes. We've decided to use boot camp instead of parallels or other options. My question is how do we know which windows OS to chose? I've heard Vista has had problems. is there a reason to use a professional version as opposed to standard? All help is appreciated. Steve.

If I was starting out, and new I had to run Windows natively...
    a) Vista has been out about two years
    b) there are issues with anything
    c) does Revit and Autocad recommend any hardware spec
I would have gotten a PC with Intel Core i7 920, 6GB DDR3 memory, high end graphics, and either Home Premium 64-bit or Ultimate. Price: $1300 plus cost of hard drive, graphics, and OS, that would plow through and flatten any work load.

  • Witch specifikation will i need to run AutoCad via bootcamp (Window version)

In order to run AutoCad on a Macbook Pro via bootcamp, what kind of specification will i need ???
I´m thinking about the 17 inch Macbook Pro.
About processors i have to choises, either the 2,2 with 6 mb L3 and turbo-boost up to 3,4 or
    the 2,3 with 8 mb L3 and turbo-boost up to 3,6
Next there is Ram, how much will i need ??? Again i have to options, eigther 4 or 8
I´m going to study next month and i haven´t woorked with AutoCad before, however i wan´t a system running perfektly and completely without any problems what so ever.
Now it would be pretty ekspensive for me to upgrade, so i´ll only do it, if i really have to, in order to get that perfektly running system.
What do you say ?, Have an idea ?

Yes, but I am inclined to agree with user Templeton Peck - I prefer Boot Camp.  Otherwise I was MAX OUT the ram upgrade.  And isn't it FRUSTRATING how expensive the new AutoCAD by Autodesk for MAC is?!?!  It's twice the price of a new MAC!  NUTS!  I did give the free trail a go & have to say that I like it....but not when I've already paid for a PC copy!  Frustrating, just frustrating...
BTW - recently upgraded to the i7 15"MBP w/ Thunderbolt.  LOOOOVE it!  Can't wait to see what Thunderbolt technology will bring...glad I waited.
    Cheers!

  • Can i run autocad 3d, 3ds max and autodesk inventor on imac?

    Hello you all!
I'm ready to buy an i-Mac for my work, but first I need to be 100% sure that it runs AutoCAD 3d. I would really need Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Inventor as well, but I can live without.
Please let me know if anyone knows, and aslo (as I never had anything to do with mac computers) I'd like to ask if I'll be able to keep updating these softwares whenever needed.
Last, does anyone know specifically what specs should I focus on among operating systems or other things when deciding which i-Mac to buy?
    Thanks a lot guys!
    Christina

Very simple to find out, look at the system requirements for the apps and then compare to the iMac you are interested in. As far as updating the apps that isn't a question to ask here, you need to contact the developers or even better just visit their website periodically to see if updates for their products are released. If the app's are available from Apple's App Store then updates would be released from teh App Store. If you are not familiar with the App Store please click:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/apps/app-store.html?cid=wwa-us-kwg-mac-com&siclientid=5 899&sessguid=96a06dba-3ee0-4df6-9e13-a0a08104279c&userguid=96a06dba-3ee0-4df6-9e 13-a0a08104279c&permguid=96a06dba-3ee0-4df6-9e13-a0a08104279c
    for information.
BTW if you don't feel comfortable with this answer then i'd recommend contacting Autodesk and asking what hardware specifications they recommend for an iMac and also visiting your local Apple Store.

  • Can BPC Release 7.5.112.07 run on MicroSoft Excel 2013 (MS Office 365)?

    Hi BPC Community,
Can BPC Release 7.5.112.07 run on MicroSoft Excel 2013? We are currently running BPC on Excel 2010. There's a new feature in Office 365, that when we bring up a new BPC report, Excel will open up essentially a new Excel application and the BPC add-in is not replicated in the new Excel application.
Our IT team mentioned updating registries to prevent a new Excel app for generating, but they said that this approach may revert (erase the reg update) once a new software update is done.
    Thanks. Barry

    Hi Barry,
Microsoft Office 2013 is supported in BPC 10 sp13 and EPM Add-in sp14, support for BPC 7.5 will end on march 2016 so I don't think they will support it in 7.5 version also in future.
Forgot to add, same for office 365 not supported in 7.5 but only in 10 version with epm sp18 see please  1999305 - Microsoft Office 365 users are unable to install SAP EPM Add-in
