Running into a lot of problems deleting an admin account

It's a long story, but I'm trying to delete the admin account. Things I have tried:
* Logging out of the unwanted account -> Going to System Preferences -> Unlocking Users & Groups
I tried to use the minus sign to delete the account, but the minus sign is greyed out.
* In response to this, I saw one user on a previous thread about this problem suggest going into Terminal and typing sudo dscl . delete "/Users/Account Name" (replacing "Account Name" with the admin account name). When I tried this, I got this message:
guest1 is not in the sudoers file.  This incident will be reported.
And then Terminal won't let me continue after that.
I'm seriously stuck here. Any help would be appreciated.

I found a solution and deleted the account following the steps from here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5664658?tstart=0
I'm still running into the guest1 is not in the sudoers file.  This incident will be reported. problem though. I need to get past that.

  • I've run into a security question problem

I made my Apple ID when I got my first iPod(2nd Gen) and I was around 8-10. Since then I've gotten an iPad 2 and iPod 5. I have gotten a couple of devices between this timeframe but have never run into this problem. I cannot remember my Security questions, I have never been asked to put them in until now. Like I said I made this Apple ID a long time ago and have forgotten the answers to them. Also I do not have a recovery email set, I saw that you can call apple but that would be weird as I am 15. Any advice?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

As mentioned above I have just downloaded OSX Maverick to my iMac. I am now having a lot of problems with iCloud. • Import problems in new admin account

I have two accounts on my system, my main admin account ("Admin"), and a new user that I have just created ("Adam"). I am trying to duplicate my "Admin" setup in the "Adam" account and move my 24GB iTunes music folder and mailboxes across to it.
I moved across all the preferences from "Admin" to "Adam" and basically all my applications work fine, although I had to reinstall a few preference panes. The "Adam" account is configured with administrative access via the tick box in the accounts preferences.
If I archive my mailboxes under "Admin" and then copy to "Adam", the files show up as locked folders with the red sign on them and they cannot be imported. Likewise, if I drag the entire Mail folder out of preferences and across to "Adam" it is likewise locked up.
Similarly, I cannot move my iTunes music folder into "Adam" because iTunes reports that the librbary file is locked, hence it will not recognize the library from the "Admin" account.
How can I easily move my music and email into the "Adam" account? I thought that allowing admin rights under "Adam" would work, but obviously the "Adam" account does not have permission to access these files when they are simply copied across.

Glad you fixed it. In the future, here is a better way to move files from Account A to Account B without running into permissions headaches:
    1) Log in as A.
    2) Move the files to /Users/A/Public (don't move any Apple-created folders, like Documents, Pictures, etc. Just move their contents.)
    3) Log in as B.
    4) Navigate with Finder to /Users/A/Public.
    5) Drag the files to the Desktop. This will make new copies of them with correct permissions settings for B. File them away in the appropriate places in B's home folder.
    6) Log back in as A. Delete the files from /Users/A/Public.

  • Can i delete my admin account and make a new one?

i want to start a new account cos i have so much rubbish on my current one. i have worked out how to make new accounts but cant work out how to delete my main (current) admin account?
any help would be great. thanks.

Create a new account with Admin privileges.
Backup important files (Documents, Music, etc).
    Log out of current account.
    Log into new admin account.
When you are sure you have backed up and moved everything over, you can then delete the old previous admin account. You can have more than one admin account so it's not necessary to delete immediately. Actually, it's not a bad idea to have another backup admin account for troubleshooting purposes.
Be advised though that you'll have to have separate names for each account.

  • Migration problem (created second admin account)

So I just got a new Macbook Pro and wanted to transfer my music and documents from my time machine from my old Macbook.
I did it, but now I have a second Admin account with the music and documents. I don't want a second admin account and would like to delete it.
I only want one admin account, so how would I migrate the music and documents from the time machine to my current admin account?
So my questions are how do I delete the second admin account that was created and just mirgate it to the current admin account?
Another question that is off topic is: the feature on safari that when you quit safari that it opens up the same window. Can that be changed to just being the homepage at all times when I reopen safari after it was quit?

Drag them over to the original accounts Public folder, or move them to the hard drive level Users/Shared folder. You may experience some permissions problems you will have to fix.

  • Delete original admin account - applications now owned by 'unknown'

This has come up in the past and must be kind of a common question. Let’s say you have a computer that you want to give to your kids. All you want to do is create a new user admin account and then delete yours. Can’t this be done safely without permissions of applications getting all weird? I did this and all the applications now have owner set to 'unknown'. I was hoping they would say the name of the new and only user on the computer. Can and/or should I fix this?

Use the instruction on this page to change the UID of your account; if you haven't changed it manually, your account's current UID will be 502 and you want to change it to 501.

  • Problem Deleting Enterprise Email Account

    Hello All,
I deleted my work enterprise email account from my blackberry but it is still showing when I swipe to the left where my hub is. I checked under settings and under email accounts and the account isn't there. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the email account & emails still showing in the hub?
    Thanks,
    Amit Sood

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Try resetting the hub. With the Hub Messages list displayed, swipe 5 times diagonally from top right to bottom left.
If that does not clear it, try a normal shut down/restart. If it still does not clear, try a batt-pull reboot.
Also be sure to check with your BES admin and make sure that they have removed your BB from the BES system itself.
    Good luck!

  • I am trying to use a Futek load sensor example and am running into all sorts of weird issues with the coding.

Eons ago, when I took the Labview I & II courses, I remember the instructor stating that correct VI's had to have error line.  I downloaded this VI example from Futek's website and the code doesn't  use it. I am trying to utilize it for some data collection rather than have to pay for their software that goes with the sensor.  When I first try to run the VI I get an error, and if I replace the formula they use, then undo the replacement it appears to work. The engineer that I am trying to help out is basically wanting to be able to read and also write a file during test, and I am running into all sorts of problems.
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.
    Attachments:
    FUTEK LabVIEW 10 Example 2.3.2003.3.vi ‏645 KB

The first error when I start to run the VI, is states that I need to insert disc 1 of Labview.
I can usually hit stop and run, stop and run, and then it will start "working".
Then I get the Formula: Library version is incompatible with XNode version.
If I replace the fomula, and then undo replace it will correct the broken start arrow.....
I took the labview 1 and 2 courses 5 years ago, and haven't been a regular user so I am what you would call extremely rusty.
I have an engineer here that is wanting to use the sensor for some testing and can't really understand why I am having so many issues.
Do you know if NI has someone that might be able to work through this with me, or even if there is some Labview consultant that can be paid to help out?
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • How long should it take to delete a second admin. account  ?

Now that I have completed migration to my new desktop imac I want to give my older imac  (2007) to a family member. I have deauthorized this imac and now I am trying to delete my admin account ( I have  a spare  admin account already running on this imac that I had plan to leave alone).
I logged in under the spare adminstrator and went into  system preferences   --  users & groups.     I  unlocked to make changes. I  choose to delete my user account ( which is an admin account) and for the last 2 hours I have been  on hold while I have the message in systems preference that  this admin account is being deleted .  SHould this process take this long or isthis a sign of a problem ?

It would be better to wipe the older iMac & reinstall the software.  Your fam member will become the admin.  Click on the links below as they also apply to your situation:

  • Delete (-) for user account dimmed.

I had created a “Guest Account” that I would now like to delete, however I cannot. When I log into my administrator account, go to System Preferences and unlock the lock to allow changes and then select the guest account, the delete [-] for the guest account is dimmed. How do I get rid of this account?

Within the guest account, was there any higher privilege given to make it
equal to your main Admin account? In those cases where a secondary
account was given high privilege, that would have to be revoked prior to
being able to simply remove the account from the system.
Some access from the guest account may be holding up the delete process.
(This is an area where I have only read several things about; however I did
add a link and quote to this reply which may be of help if nothing else works.
But it has a limited answer, too; the main command is dimmed out, inviting
you to try other advanced or even routine maintenance on your computer.)
An account access permissions issue may likely only be a maintenance matter.
But check the settings used to create and maintain the Guest user accounts.
*See this topic:* "How do I completely disable the Guest Account in Leopard?"
    http://www.askdavetaylor.com/completelydisable_guest_account_mac_os_xleopard.html
Sometimes, issues within accounts, users and privileges go odd; it may
be you would need to repair disk and disk permissions from the booted
Installer's Disk Utility version. Also, check and repair anything in the OS
that may have been lacking. There are times where general maintenance
is a way to fix odd issues that otherwise have no explanation.
Have you started the computer into SafeBoot, and when then in the admin
account, see about removing the guest or other user; or at least try to make
the settings function? Some extensions and system bits are inactive when
the computer system is booted into SafeBoot Mode, but you can use this to
an advantage since it does a basic repair on startup. Then run Disk Utility,
and its 'repair disk permissions' then when done, quit D.U. & restart normally.
There are several Support documents on the topic of user accounts and how
to manage them; some troubleshooting of them involves reading up on the
variable and ways you can change the settings. I'd use caution since there is
a way to Delete a Guest User Account that involves the terminal or root level
and fair attention to detail is required so as to not affect more than the one item.
A post in this Discussion tread tells of how to delete a guest user account:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1521487
From May 14, 2008 as contributed by V.K. to resolve another user's problem:
+"From an admin account uncheck the option enabling Guest account in accounts+
+system preferences and then enter the following command in terminal.+
    *sudo dscl . delete /users/Guest*
+Please just copy and paste the above. That's very important, you don't want+
+to delete a wrong thing here. You'll have to enter your admin password which+
    +you won't see (that's normal).+
*This command will delete the Guest user.*
+Now go to the accounts preferences and enable Guest. This should create+
+Guest user afresh and hopefully resolve the password issue. Restart and+
+try the guest user again. Double check and make sure that it's enabled."+
    {This last part, should you need to re-create a guest user again.}
While I have not tried this, nor have I ever created a Guest User account in
any of my dozens of Macs, (prefer to create Standard user for daily use; or
try the Parental Controls to minimize damages an inexperienced user may
create in the process of over-reaching their grasp) I can see it may be handy.
Hopefully some of the above may be helpful. Usually if a system function is
acting oddly, sticks, or won't work correctly, some systematic maintenance
is likely behind the situation. To have and run AppleJack from single user or
perform other preventative actions to head off possible issues, are ideas, too.
Since I don't use AppleJack, and seldom need to run in the command line or
single user or terminal mode, some of that is out of my range. I've found most
of the issues I've read about can be prevented. However, if a user gets into the
OS and can move things around, trash or misplace important parts, etc; odd
things can happen. Unfriendly or careless/unwanted user access can mess it up.
Usually about once a month whether or not the computer needs it, I run OnyX
and have it complete all items check-marked in Automation, and have it set to
restart the computer when that group is finished. There are other tools in it, too.
Perhaps the combination of things can help; or just what Dave Taylor said.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can I delete all files and users (including admin account) without re-installing SL?

I have a 1st generation Macbook Air, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Just bought myself a new MBA, want to sell the old one (privately, not soliciting here).
The original install disks were Leopard.  I bought a family pack SL and upgraded the MBA at that point.  Earlier this year I sold my old Mac Mini (when I upgraded) and included the SL install disks with that sale (stupid of me).
Now I want to sell the old MBA.  Ideally, I'd have a clean install on SL on it, minus all previous files and accounts.  I've done that before when selling old computers, reformatted / erased the HD, then reinstalled the OS.  But I don't have the SL disk anymore, and I don't really want to pay for it just to prep this notebook for sale.
    AFAICT, my options are:
wipe the HD and reinstall Leopard (the only OSX disks I have).  Whoever buys it from me would need to upgrade to SL themselves, and from there to Lion if they want.
somehow try to delete all files and users without touching the current install of SL.  I'm not terribly worried about security of what little information is on the MBA (nothing important to me), so I don't mind trashing files and then emptying trash instead of wiping the HD block by block.
Any ideas for how to do #2?  I can trash all files/folders under /user, uninstall all applications and delete their folders from Library, uninstall all browsers except Safari and wipe the history from that...
Is there other stuff I should be deleting?  plist files, maybe?  I'm leery of messing around too much and disrupting the install of the underlying OS.
Can I also delete the admin account (or rename it "admin" with a generic default password?)?
    Any other suggestions?  Thanks.

Trashing files you have created is relatively easy. Getting rid of an account is a bit harder. Trashing the .plist files, etc., that may contain personal info is a lot harder, and there is always the risk that you will miss something.
Best, and easiest, and customary, is to do option #1 - wipe the drive and re-install the original OS from the original disk set. The receiver of the machine can then decide which OS they want to upgrade it to, and purchse accordingly.
The original disk set for that machine should be included with it when it is sold.
