Running multiple java commands from a script

Hi, I am running Cygwin on windows XP professional.
I keep recompiling some files with javac as I change them very often. To save some time, I made a script "tout.txt" including the three following commands :
javac JpanColl.java
javac AppliTest.java
java AppliTest
There is no problem with the java command that launches a JFrame but it launches the old version since the two java commands don't compute.
This is the message I get :
javac Invalid flag: Jpancoll.java
etc.
Thanks

You guys didnt play enough Highlights for Kids covers
as a kid, lol.
javac JpanColl.java
javac Invalid flag: Jpancoll.java
all things java are cAsE sEnSiTiVe.Yes thanks for the input. I did note the incorrect name, however, Windows doesn't actually care, it matters at runtime but not compile time. Also invalid flag is not the type of error message one would see with that sort of error anyway.
Bottom line: nice guess but you're wrong.

  • How to run multiple DOS commands from a single Webutil Client_Host session?

    Hello all,
    I have a requirement where I need to create an interface with SVN from Forms for basic checkin-checkout of files.
    So, I've been trying to use webutil client_host to open a command line session and issue svn commands.
    For svn, sometimes I need to give multiple commands like change to a particular directory and then run an svn command.
    But client_host takes in only one command at a time and I'm unable to issue a series of DOS commands to perform
    a particular task.
    Is there a way to do this?
    Pls suggest.
    Regards,
    Sam

    First your original question... You can put more than one DOS command on a single line, simply separate each command with an ampersand (&). For example:
    mkdir c:\abc & cd abc & dir*
    Regarding your concerns about performance, well that would depend on exactly what you mean. Using CLIENT_HOST (or HOST on the server) simply opens a shell (DOS in this case) then passes your command to it. The performance of performing this action really isn't measurable. Basically you are just pressing a button and you should get a near immediate action. As for the performance of executing each command, that has nothing to do with Forms. Once the command is passed to the shell, the rest is a function of the shell and whatever command you passed.
    Having said that, if you were to write something sloppy like a loop (in pl/sql) which called CLIENT_HOST lots of times repeatedly, then yes there would be a performance problem because the pushing of the button will cause an exchange to and from the server and each cycle in the loop will do the same.
    So the answer to how performance is impacted will depend on what exactly you need to accomplish. If it is a single call to CLIENT_HOST, this should be fine.

  • Run multiple unix commands from ODI procedure

    I want to run a series of unix commands from ODI procedure. I dont want to use Unix shell scripts. (I know that works).I am just trying to place the contents of the shell scripts in ODI procedure with Operating system as technology. But I am unable to execute the proecedure.
    For example below is a very small 3 line commands I would execute
    filename="/var/test.txt"
    ls -l $filename > /var/anotherfile.txt
    chmod 777 $filename
    I am not sure if there is any specific syntax that I have to follow for executing unix commands. Also I dont want to write a Jython and use os.system command as well.
    Appreciate any help on this

  • How to run multiple java files concurrently using command line?

    Hi,
    I have to write a script to run multiple java files and c files concurrently. Say, A and C are java files and B is another binary executable file, I have to make sure they are run in the order A-B-C, then I was trying to run by using
    java A & ./B & java C
    But it turned out that B could run before A started... Is there any way that I can ensure that A runs before B, and B runs before C by using the command line?
    Thanks a lot.

    GKY wrote:
    Sorry, I didn't make my question clear enough...
    A has to give some output files that B needs to get started,Then B can start at any time--even before A--and just wait for those files to be written. For instance, A could write to a temp file, then rename it to the real name. However, if there are multiple files, and they all have to exist, even this won't necessarily work. There are other approaches that will though.
    although writing the output takes very short time,Depends on when the OS decides to give A CPU time, what else is going on on that disk controller and/or network, etc.
    B could still run before A finishes the writing, As it can if you sleep for 1, or 10, or 1,000,000 seconds before starting B.
    if B can't find the info it wants, it fails to move on. That's why I need to make sure A starts before B.No, you need to make sure A's data is there before B tries to use that data.

  • How to run a openssl command from a java program

    Hi All
    Please suggest on how to run a openssl command from a java program.
    I am using this
    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
    runtime.exec("openssl pkcs8 -inform der -nocrypt test.der result.pem");
    This is suppose to take test.der as input and create result.pem.
    There are no errors but the file result.pem isnt created.
    Thanks in Advance

    First off is that openssl command correct? Should it be this instead:
    openssl pkcs8 -inform der -nocrypt -in test.der -out result.pem
    Try out your openssl command within a command prompt so that you know that it works ok. I think the command line you specified waits on stdin (well it does for me).
    After that.....
    runtime.exec creates a Process object. If you do this:
    Process openssl = runtime.exec("....")
    then you can examine the return code from openssl to see the exit code - for instance if the input file does not exist then exit = 1. You can test for this with Java
    Alternatively you could get the stderr from the process and look inside it - if it is 0 length then all is good, if it has some text in there then it has likely failed. You could then throw an exception and include the stderr output in the exception messgae. You may need to experiment with this, runnig it first when openssl is happy then running it again when openssl is upset.

  • URGENT: How to run a Java program from a different directory?

    Hi.
    How do I run a Java program from a directory that the file is not located in? So lets say im in c:\Java. But the file is in c:\Java\abc\efg\.
    What would be the command to run the Java file from c:\Java.
    I can't remember it and I need it asap.
    Cheers.

    If the class you are trying to run is MyApp.class, try
    c:\Java\>java -cp abc\efg MyAppThe actual classpath you specify will depend on whether or not MyApp.class is in a package (I've assumed it isn't) and whether or not any 3rd party jars are involbed (I've assumed not).
    Edited by: pbrockway2 on Apr 1, 2008 6:42 PM
    The command arguments read as "Run the MyApp class using as a classpath abc\efg relative to here (c:\Java)".

  • How do you run another Java file from a master Java file?

    We're making a game in Java at school, and we need to know how we can run a Java file from another one - like inside the master Java file, we need to have a command to run game.java (something like that). Thanks!

    We're making a game in Java at school, and we need to know how we can run a Java file from another one - like inside the master Java file, we need to have a command to run game.java (something like that). Thanks!One doesn't "run a Java file", and there's no conventional definition of "master Java file". If you want to call the main() method of another class, just make sure the class is in your classpath and call the method. If you want to start up a separate JVM with that class as a process, use Runtime.exec() or similar method.

    Let's say that the order of arguments is as below
    1. Jar file name
    2. Classpath
    Your shell script would look like this
    java -cp $CLASSPATH:$2 -jar $1 I am assuming that your jar file has the required main-class entry in its manifest. Note that $1...$9 represent the arguments to this shell script.
    The same goes for a batch file
    java -cp %CLASSPATH%;%2 -jar %1

  • Executing a menu command from a script

    Hi,
    I'm still not very familiar with the PS CS4 object model and I'm wondering whether I can trigger the execution of a menu command from a script.
    My purpose is to fix the CS4 issue with some plugins that have a bug causing some elements of the PS CS4 interface (like the Arrange Documents drop down menu) to appear blank when hovered with the mouse. This problem usually disappears when launching these plugins. For example, you'll have the problem when installing Nik Software's Silver Efex (they promised to fix this in February but we're still waiting). Launching "File | Automate | Nik Selective Tool" and then closing the dialog fixes the issue... until you re-launch PS.
    So I want to do that automatically when PS starts. I tried with an action which I attached to the startup event but the action is not launched (probably because the plugin is not active yet). So I tried the scripting way but I don't see how I can launch a menu command automatically.
    Thanks in advance.
    Patrick

    Most events that I have used run the script after the event but I'm not sure about the startup event order either.
    You might try add the creation of a new doc to your action. Then after the nik step close the doc without saving. That may force Photoshop to wait until the plugin loads before running the action.
    Another thing you could try is create an script that calls your action. Something like
    doAction( 'run Nik', 'startup actions' );// action name, action set. I don't think that will help but its simple and might work.
    If that doesn't work then I can help you with a script that you can attach to a different event. It check to see if it's been run before and if not run your action. You could attach the script to all events to make sure it gets run soon after startup.

  • Running a Java application from a Swing GUI

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there is a simple way to run a Java application from a GUI built with Swing. I would presume there would be, because the Swing GUI is a Java application itself, technically.
    So, I want a user to click a button on my GUI, and then have another Java application, which is in the same package with the same classpaths and stuff, run.
    Is there a simple way to do this? Do any tutorials exist on this? If someone could give me any advice, or even a simple "yes this is possible, and it is simple" or "this is possible, but difficult" or "no this is not possible" answer, I would appreciate it. If anyone needs more information, I'll be happy to provide it.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    I don't know if it is possible to run the main method from another Java app by simply calling it...
    But you could just copy and paste the stuff from your main method into a new static method called something like runDBQuery and have all the execution run from there.
    How does that sound? Is it possible?
    What I'm suggeting is:
    Original
    public class DBQuery{
    public static void methodA(){
    public static void doQuery(){
    methodA();
    public static void main(String[] args){
    // Your method calls
    //Your initializing
    doQuery();
    }Revised:
    public class DBQuery{
    public static void methodA(){
    public static void doQuery(){
    methodA();
    public static void doMyQuery(){
    // Your method calls
    //Your initializing
    doQuery();
    // No main needed!!
    //public static void main(String[] args){
    // Your method calls
    //doQuery();
    //}

  • Running a java applet from flash

    Hi,
    How do you run a java applet from within a Flash movie?
    Is it necessary for the user to download a java interpreter, or is there an interpreter somehow built into their browser that can run applets?

    I was wondering , I don't know too much about Flash
    I remember seeing some classes in amongst the Flash
    files when it installed , but couldn't tell you whart they
    do (at the moment , but you've got me interested)
    maybe you should rethink your strategy for building your page (and your movie) maybe build the movie around
    your applet , or preload it then replace a an area of your movie area with your applet (the way you handle rollovers).
    the advantage is you can make calls to applet methods
    from Flash as it supports Javascript.
    jus remember to set the scriptable <PARAM> to true
    Users shouldn't have to download the plug-in or JRE
    you should specify it in the OBJECT or EMBED tag so
    if they don't have it , the browser will tell them.
    of course this is going to change as Microsoft are stopping support for JAVA , users will then have to download the plug-in from Sun in order to view or use JAVA on the internet.

  • Multiple nohup commands from same path

    I had a doubt which is very urgent as my live migration is going on. I had run the 2 import commands from $ORACLE_HOME/bin for importing 2 schemas like:-
    nohup imp JISPBILCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPBILCORBILLINGPRD501 fromuser=JISPBILCORBILLINGPRD501 touser=JISPBILCORBILLINGPRD501 file=JISPBILCORBILLINGPRD501.dmp log=JISPBILCORBILLINGPRD501.log commit=y feedback=10000 ignore=Y &
    nohup imp JISPRATCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPRATCORBILLINGPRD501 fromuser=JISPRATCORBILLINGPRD501 touser=JISPRATCORBILLINGPRD501 file=JISPRATCORBILLINGPRD501.dmp log=JISPRATCORBILLINGPRD501.log commit=y feedback=10000 ignore=Y &
    Normally I run one import from the path of $ORACLE_BASE and one from $ORACLE_HOME/bin so that I have 2 different nohup.out files to see the output. But, in this case, as the 2 imports are run from the same path, will the nohup.out have output from both the files?
    So, my doubt is that hope there is no problem in running the nohup command from the same path and the nohup.out is populated with the output of both the
    imports.
    I hope, my question is clear.
    Please, help in solving the doubt.
    regards

    I had a doubt which is very urgent See how to configure application server 10g for forms 10g about urgency....
    That said...
    will the nohup.out have output from both the files?Yes, and outputs will be mixed.... but you have separate logs, haven't you ?

  • How to compile and run a .java file from another java program

    hello,
    can any one tell me how to compile and run a *.java* file from another java program which is not in same directory?

    Well a smarter way of implementing this is by using a solution provided by Java Itself.
    If you are using J2SE 6.0+ there is an in built solution provided along with JDK itself and inorder to go ahead with solution the below are set of API which you;d be using it for compiling Java Programs (Files)
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/tools/package-summary.html
    How do i do that ??
    Check out the below articles which would help you of how to do that
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-jcomp/index.html
    http://www.javabeat.net/javabeat/java6/articles/java_6_0_compiler_api_1.php
    http://books.google.com/books?id=WVbpv8SQpkEC&pg=PA155&lpg=PA155&dq=%22javax+tools%22+compiling+java+file&source=web&ots=XOt0siYe-f&sig=HH27ovuwvJgklIf8omTykUmy-eM
    Now once we are done with compilation.In order to run a Specific class all you ought to do is create an object and its specific methods of a specified class included in the CLASSPATH which you can manage it easily by usage little bit reflections.
    Hope that might help :)
