Running scripts from the catalog

If you run a backup script from the catalog and you lose your connection, does the script continue to run (like if it were run with nohup) or does it fail?

When we connect to RMAN we use TARGET parameter to connect to the oracle instance and if that instance is on some other machine then we use TNS to make the remote connection, its as same as making a connection to the database using sqlplus where RMAN/SQLPLUS is a client program and a corresponding server process get spawned at the server end. After that we allocate channels which are the actual streams where data flows and maintained by the server process and if you kill the client program the corresponding server process will also die, it doesn't matter whether that client is RMAN or sqlplus and you know what it means.

  • An error occurred while running scripts from the package "mzm,stuhjljp.pkg".

    I hope someone can help, I have now tried downloading Lion OSx 4 times and I keep getting this message: An error occurred while running scripts from the package "mzm,stuhjljp.pkg".
    I go back to the app store and it kindly tells me it's installed. It's not quite simply it is nowhere to be found.
    Nice one Apple for moving away from those reliable discs and causing pain, wasted productivity and a **** of a lot of frustration. $29.99 to annnoy the **** out of me, thanks.
    Anyone have a solution that may be of assistance.

    Mj, I can't offer much help but you may be able to use this method to "find" Lion OS X in the App Store again.
    Hold down the "option" key while clicking on the App Store icon.  Keep holding down the option key, then click on the "Purchased" tab at the top of the page.
    With any luck the button to the right of Lion OS X will now say "install."
    I'm having a similar problem reinstalling Lion, so don't be surprised if you try to reinstall and get the same error.
    Good luck,

  • How I run a shell script from the scheduler on 10.2.0.2.0 ?

    Hello Oracle People,
    I'd like to run a shell script from the Scheduler in my 10g database.
    Right now it is a simple shell script.
    Eventually it will wrap RMAN commands to back up my DB.
    I wrote a simple pl/sql script to create a job:
    -- cr_job10.sql
    BEGIN
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB (
    job_name => 'my_backup_job',
    job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
    job_action => '/h/oracle/scripts/tst.sh',
    start_date => '06-SEP-07 5.33.00PM US/Pacific',
    repeat_interval => 'FREQ=DAILY',
    end_date => '08-SEP-07 4.00.00PM US/Pacific',
    enabled => TRUE,
    comments => 'My Backup Job');
    END;
    I see no errors when I run the above procedure.
    I checked DBA_SCHEDULER_JOBS and the job is in there.
    The scheduler, though, errors out with an error which I see in a trace file:

    There, I see some evidence that I need to configure something inside
    of Oracle to run shell scripts from the scheduler, but possibly just
    for machines running windows. I'm running Solaris.
    Do any of you know what I need to configure inside of Oracle to
    run shell scripts from the scheduler?
    -Owen

    Hello people,
    I should have added this bit of information:
    "The script runs fine from oracle's crontab."
    "The script runs fine from a shell owned by oracle."
    I'm getting responses telling me to check my env variables and permissions
    which would be helpful to a UNIX novice.
    I have a feeling that no one is using the scheduler to run RMAN scripts.
    Tim Hall suggested I take a close look at these files:
    $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/externaljob.ora
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/extJob
    Currently I'm setup like this:
    bash sol root /h/oracle/product/10r2/bin 31 #
    bash sol root /h/oracle/product/10r2/bin 31 # ll $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/externaljob.ora

    On my system, the user 'nobody' has no shell so I cannot use nobody.
    I created a user named rman:
    bash sol root /h/oracle/product/10r2/bin 34 #
    bash sol root /h/oracle/product/10r2/bin 34 #

    Jared points out that rman needs access to extproc:
    $ ls -la /h/oracle/product/10r2/bin/extproc
    -rwsr-x--- 1 rman dba 34468 Sep 21 2006 /h/oracle/product/10r2/bin/extproc

    I am focused on this error:
    ORA-27369: job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: 274662
    And I am focused on this exit code: 274662
    What does 274662 mean?
    If the Scheduler gives me an error like "274662" rather than some English,
    it's obvious to me the Scheduler is a POS and I should not use it.
    And of course,
    If I cannot run RMAN from Oracle Scheduler, I'll use cron.

  • How to run a shell script from the GUI?

    This is probably a dumb question...
    How do I run a shell script from the GUI? I've been told to double click it but when I do, it opens as a text file.

    The behavior you describe is that used by the KDE and GNOME desktops of Linux.
    Under OS X, if you make a script then mark it as executable, double-clicking on it in the Finder will not execute it. Actually, it uses a rather complex algorithm ([summarized here|http://arstechnica.com/reviews/2q00/macos-qna/macos-x-qa-2.html]) to determine what to do with it. This is implemented in Mac OS X' LaunchServices framework (incidentally, the associations are cached in /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices*.csstore and ~/Library/Caches/com.apple/LaunchServices*.csstore). You can read the details in the developer docs about LaunchServices.
    Anyway, in short, the suffix '.command' is a built-in type in the LaunchServices network that identifies a shell script. If you run
    /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServic es.framework/Support/lsregister -dump
    ... it will tell you as much.

  • Script Alert "You should only run scripts from a trusted source."

    I created a small javascript which opens Photoshop and resizes some images.
    I want to be able to double-click the .JSX file from Windows Explorer, and have Photoshop execute the script. Likewise, I want to be able to run the .JSX file from the command line.
    The script runs perfectly. However, the problem is that I don't want any user interaction. I want to be able to run the script from the command line without the user having to click anything. What happens now when I try to run the file from Windows Explorer of the command line is, I get a Script Alert with the following text:
    You are about to run a script in Adobe Photoshop CS3. You should only run scripts from a trusted source. Do you want to run the script? Yes/No
    Is there any possible way to bypass this message or to answer in the affirmative?
    Thanks,
    Jamie L.

    Hi... Sorry to revive such an old thread,
        Does anyone know the "trusted source" folder for MAC CS4.
    EDIT!
    My bad.  "The /users/<user_name>/documents/Adobe Scripts" folder is working for this purpose for me.  I needed a path to it and forgot that the ~ resolves to the current user.  Sweet.

  • Can we execute a Powershell script from the Javascript?

    Hi,
    I have a certain requirement to add a Custom ribbon button in document library and there was a powershell script to be run for the selected item in the library.
    I have struck with executing a Powershell script from the javascript function.
    Can anyone please suggest me if this was achievable
    Thanks, Swaroop Vuppala

    Hi Swaroop,
    To execute server side code in a custom ribbon button script, using application page is a common way to do this, besides, you can also use a page dialog, which is similar with application page but display as model dialog, another way is javascript
    _dopostback and delegate control, the following article contains detailed information about this, please refer to it for more information:
    Invoke server side code on SharePoint ribbon click:

  • Cannot prevent ExtendScript debugging while running scripts from After Effects

    Hi,
    I am facing this issue while running scripts from within After Effects. Whenever I am trying to run a script in After Effects, the script opens up in ESTK in the debug mode. The execution waits at the starting point of the script as if there is breakpoint even though there is none. I am not sure whether what I am missing, whether some debug flag needs to be reset etc. I am using After Effects CC on Windows 7 OS. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I tried running the script after removing all $.writeln() statements, but unfortunately that does not resolve the problem. For testing the issue, I am trying with the simple script given below :
    var window = new Window ("palette", "My Window", undefined);
    var panel = window.add("panel", undefined, "Panel");
    var text = panel.add("statictext", undefined, "Testing AE");
    window.show();
    But executing even this one from AE opens up ESTK. I am absolutely stuck with this odd behaviour .

  • Error when running script from OTM

    Hi team,
    Customer is trying to run script from OTM but is getting a "JWG file does not exist" error. I found the following metalink note and the customer has verified that the repositories are defined with exactly the same names & paths in OTM & Openscript.
    Scripts Failing To Play Back From OATS Test Manager (OTM) (Doc ID 1587941.1)
    I've also checked the following post in the forums but this doesn't apply to the customer because both the OTM & agent are on Windows:
    https://forums.oracle.com/message/10707963
    Appreciate any pointers
    Thanks,
    Krishna

    Hi Krishna
    Is the agent running as a windows service or started from an interactive batch?
    What kind of script is that? Web, Forms, Siebel, other?
    Are they different repositories or the same? If different, how do you copy scripts from one to the other one?
    Cheers

  • Running scripts from Finder, and printing without a dialog

    Two questions:
    1. I need to launch an InDesign script from outside of InDesign -- such as launching the script from the finder (Mac) and having it run in InDesign. How can I do this?
    2. How can I script printing a document so that it automatically prints, bypassing the Print dialog box that a user would need to click on (I want it to print automatically in the background without the user doing anything)?

    1. Just save your script as an application and wrap your stuff in an "on run" statement.
    on run
    tell application "Adobe InDesign"
    --do stuff
    end
    end
    See the Applescript Language Reference at developer.apple.com/applescript for more info.
    2. Yup. The "do stuff" in your case will probably look something like this:
    tell active document
    --Set up options, assumes you have created a printer preset
    -- with the output options you want
    set active printer preset of print preferences to "my printer preset"
    set page range of print preferences to all pages
    --And then print
    print without print dialog
    end

  • Unable to run reports from the unix command line

    hi
    all of a sudden i am unable to run reports ( on App server 10g) either from the unix scripts or from the unix command line. But i can run them from the forms.
    Any one have any idead about this.
    Thank you

    thanks all for replying
    i have set the env variables for the session and it worked. Looks like i have to set the oracle_home and ld_library_path every time ( opening a new putty session) i call sqlldr.
    But in a whole i am trying to run sql loader from the forms. Right now we have Oracle app server 10g which forms 10g version. As oracle app server 10g didnt come with sqlldr, we are copied the sqlldr of database on to app server with different home. after this we can run sqlldr ( on app server ) from unix scripts but not from Forms. Then we opened a qurey with oracle about app server 10g not commig with sqlldr and its remedy . But they said that they dont have specific remedy for that and suggested the same what we did.
    So we came up with java package which does the same funtion as host command and trying to run sqlldr which is on the database( ie replacing the host command in the forms with the database funtion). By using that funtion i am able to run the sqlldr from sql plus but not from forms. I couldnt easily debug it as i wont through any error messages.
    Any one have any idea of this ...
    Thank you

  • Unregister database from the catalog

    Is it possible to cancel the registration of a database from the catalog?

    First you should delete all backups from the catalog database for the target. This isn't required but is easier accomplished with the target still registered.
    Next, you'll need to obtain the DB_KEY and DBID from the RC_DATABASE view in the RMAN schema in the catalog database. Then you'll run the following as the RMAN user connected to the RMAN catalog database in SQL*Plus.
    execute dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(DB_KEY,DBID);
