Running Sum in Pivot Table

Hi Experts,
I have the following pivot table:
----------SUM1--SUM2--SUM3
-------A--20------30-------45
-------P--10------15--------5
----DIFF-10------15-------40
where the last row is new calculated item. Is it possible to create another calculated row by using value from the 'Diff' row?. What I want to achieve is Running Sum for 'Diff' row.
So I need an output like:
----------SUM1--SUM2--SUM3
-------A--20------30-------45
-------P--10------15--------5
----DIFF-10------15-------40
RSUM-10----25-------65
My BI version is BI EE 10.1.3.4.1. I suppose that some kind of trick will be helped.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion
Regards,
Esk

Hi, It is possible in pivot view.
You need to move the measure labels to the left..where it says rows.
Once that is done, we can click on any of the facts and choose display as running sum

  • Running sum per column in pivot table

    Hello,
I am facing a problem with a running sum in a pivot table. As you know, the running sum provided by OBIEE spans across rows and columns. My requirements force me to have a running sum per each column (I have four columns, one for each quarter of the year). My pivot is as follows:
    ------------------------------|| 1st Quarter / 2nd Quarter ...
type of product / status || (Measure / Running Sum) / (Measure / Running Sum) ...
I've tried using the evaluate function with a "sum over" but that doesn't seem to work either.
Do you have any ideas that could be useful to solve this?
Thank you in advance for your time,
    João Marques

Do not use the "running measure" button in pivot table, but try this :
edit the formula of your measure and type :
    RSUM(mesure by dimension)
where dimension is the attribute dimension that you put on the ROWS of your pivot table
Exemple : I've got the criteria REVENUE, YEAR, CUSTOMER TYPE
I put the YEAR in the Columns of the pivot table
I put the CUSTOMER TYPE on the rows of the pivot table
I put the REVENUE in the measures of the pivot table
Measure has the formula : RSUM("Facts Revenue".Revenue BY Customers."Customer Type")

I want to Group by dates and move the Hunt to columns calculating their counts and sum their marks too. Like given below.
I wrote a pivot query like below but If i group it with dates and calculate the total marks it throws aggregate errors.
Create Table Student_Log ([Date] datetime ,Student varchar (20), Subject varchar (20) ,Hunt int ,Marks int )
    Go
    INSERT INTO Student_Log ([Date],Student, [Subject],Hunt,Marks) VALUES('2014-02-18 15:00:00.000','Sam ','Maths','1','20')
    INSERT INTO Student_Log ([Date],Student, [Subject],Hunt,Marks) VALUES('2014-02-18 15:00:00.000','Sam ','Maths','1','10')
    INSERT INTO Student_Log ([Date],Student, [Subject],Hunt,Marks) VALUES('2014-02-18 15:00:00.000','Sam ','Maths','2','30')
    INSERT INTO Student_Log ([Date],Student, [Subject],Hunt,Marks) VALUES('2014-02-18 15:00:00.000','Luke','Science','1','50')
    INSERT INTO Student_Log ([Date],Student, [Subject],Hunt,Marks) VALUES('2014-02-17 15:00:00.000','Sam ','Maths','2','50')

    INSERT INTO Student_Log ([Date],Student, [Subject],Hunt,Marks) VALUES('2014-02-16 15:00:00.000','Luke','Science','2','20')
    INSERT INTO Student_Log ([Date],Student, [Subject],Hunt,Marks) VALUES('2014-02-16 15:00:00.000','Luke','Science','3','20')
    Go
    select * from Student_Log
    select [DATE] , [Student], [Subject] ,[1],[2],[3],[4],Total =([1]+[2]+[3]+[4])
    from
    ( select [Date], [Student], [Subject],[Hunt],[Marks] from Student_Log
    )x
    pivot
    count ( [Hunt]) for [Hunt]
    in ([1],[2],[3],[4])
    )p
    order by [Date] desc
I have done this far only. More than this I need to enhance it with the Percentage of Hunts for each Student.
    ie like below table.
On 18th Sam in Maths he had 2 rows on 1st hunt  and 1 row on 2nd hunt. So On the Pivot table is it possible to represent it on percentage using the Total Attempts column.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
Its runnung in SQL 2000 Server.

  • Access Pivot Table truncates sums

I use Pivot Tables in Access 2007 a lot and discovered recently when trying to tie out the results that when the raw data has decimal values, as in a currency format, the sum function in the pivot table is truncating the results to a whole interger.
Not rounding, but truncating, so this is an issue with accuracy.  The results are displaying in a currency format, but anything to the right of the decimal is a zero.  How can I get the pivot table sums to be accurate to two decimal points?

  • Excel Pivot Table not working Office 2013 click to run

    Hi
I have a user who is having an issue with Excel pivot tables.
Issue occurs when opening an old excel-file (created with Office 2007) and then saving it with another name (Save As).
When opened the next time, system gives attached error message when trying to update Pivot with "Alt + F5" command.
--> For some reason it wants to find something from that old excel file + Pivot is not updated.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Dan Smith

Thank you George for your reply. The user tried the Analyze-->Change Data Source and this is what was found:
The original file name was ”Kaiken_syyskuu2014_2.xlsx”. (see the pic below)
When I have saved it as “Kaken_marraskuu2014”, it seems that all the pivots are still linked to “Kaiken_syyskuu2014_2”??
In earlier Office version this did not happen.
This excel file must be updated on monthly basis. There is tens of different pivots, so It would be quite nightmare to update the names for every Data Source one by one, every month (actually it is not possible to type name for the data
source, ranges/tables have to be selected manually).
These pivots are not re-created every month. Only the data source gets updated by pressing (Alt + F5)
This problems is solved if the pivot table data source gets updated also (=source is same than new file name) when you give new name for the file (=Save as).
I don’t see the point why pivots are still linked to old file, if you have already gave new file name for the entire excel-file.
    I hope you can help.
    Thanks
    Br.

  • How to display the column into the narrative or section from pivot table

I have a report. I have the basic number displayed in the pivot table, but missing one column and I need move one column to the top. The column missing (% of tested) should be calculated by column c /column F's last number, ie, F7=48. My desired column would be H3=c3/F48 9/48, H4=c4/F488/48.... But I could not get the number 48 into my formula, because it is the running total of the all column E. These data is in Pivot table.
I also need display No of Students 74 in the top of the report. I am not able to get this number from pivot table. It is count distinct on student key from the repository.
    I appreciate any help.

I wish it was this easy. I must not explain it right. All the score from each student and each question for each subject and each test is stored in database. The number of question for the subject is the max of the questions for each subject. Basically, it needs 'parittion by'... But in the OBIEE, it would not let me add any 'partition by' in the column formula. Is this true? ie, can you use partition by in the column formula? Here are the query from trace file.

  • Error while creating pivot table in recording macro

im getting error " Run time error 1004: unable to get the pivottables property of the worksheet class

    ' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+t

        ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable14").AddDataField ActiveSheet.PivotTables( _
            "PivotTable14").PivotFields("KL"), "Sum of KL", xlSum
    End Sub

You have TableDestination:="" which means you are not specifying a destination and therefore a new sheet gets created and it becomes the active sheet. You are selecting Sheets("Premium Pivot") which will not
have the pivot table and the remainder of the code references the ActiveSheet.
Either delete the line Sheets("Premium Pivot").Select or set the table destination like the following.
TableDestination:="'Premium Pivot'!R3C1"      (Note the single quotes around the sheet name that contains a space. Edit the range on the destination to suit your requirements.)

  • Pivot table Govenor exceeded

    Hi everyone,
I'm getting the "Governor limit exceeded in cube generation (Maximum data records exceeded.)
    Error Details
    Error Codes: QBVC92JY " error.
I've got the following entries setup in my instance config file
    <PivotView>
    <MaxCells>800000</MaxCells>
    </PivotView>
    <CubeMaxRecords>800000</CubeMaxRecords>
    <CubeMaxPopulatedCells>800000</CubeMaxPopulatedCells>
The query I am running is summing up dollars by year and charge type over three years. In the pivot table, the year is the page, the charge type is in the row and the dollar amount is in the measure:
    PAGE= Year (in 2009, 2008, 2007)
    SECTION=<blank>
    Row=Charge Type Measure= Dollars
When I try to view the pivot table I get the governor error. However, when I pull the query from the session log, run it in SQL Developer and add a "group by year, charge_type having count(*) > 800000" clause to the end of the query, it doesn't return any records. I even grouped by just the charge_type having count(*) > 800000 but I still got no results exceeding the limit I set in the instanceconfig.xml file.
My understanding was that the governor should not be triggered when each individual bucket does not exceed the limit (800000). Is this not the case? Can someone explain how this governor works?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Joe

    Try this in instanceconfig..
    <PivotView>
    <MaxCells>800000</MaxCells>
    <CubeMaxRecords>800000</CubeMaxRecords>
    <CubeMaxPopulatedCells>800000</CubeMaxPopulatedCells>
    </PivotView>
    Add
    <CubeMaxRecords>800000</CubeMaxRecords>
    <CubeMaxPopulatedCells>800000</CubeMaxPopulatedCells>
these tags also inside pivot view tags...
    Just give a try..
    Thanks & Regards

  • Pivot table with variables columns

I need a helo to pivot table with variable columns,
    I have a pivot table :
    SELECT a.*
    FROM (SELECT codigo_aluno,nome_aluno , id_curso,dia FROM c_frequencia where dia like '201308%') PIVOT (sum(null)   FOR dia IN ('20130805' ,'20130812','20130819','20130826')) a
but I need to run the select with values for dia , getting from a other table :
    SELECT a.*
    FROM (SELECT codigo_aluno,nome_aluno , id_curso,dia FROM c_frequencia where dia like '201308%') PIVOT (sum(null)   FOR dia IN (
    select dia from v_dia_mes )) a
    thank you

The correct answer should be "Use the Pivoted Report Region Plugin".
But, as far as I know, nobody has created/posted that type of APEX plugin.
You may have to use a Basic Report (not an IR) so that you can use "Function returning SELECT" for your Source.
    You would need two functions:
One that dynamically generates the Column Names
One that dynamically generates the SELECT statement
These should be in a PL/SQL Package so that the later can call the former to ensure that the column data matches the column names.
    i.e. -- no 'SELECT *'

  • Display as Running Sum

I have a measure in the pivot table with the following options enabled:
    - Show data as - Percent of - Section
    - Display as Running Sum
Also, I have several sections in the pivot table.
The measure result is correct, but when I add totals, I get a strange result. The total for the first section is 100%, for the second section is 200%, for the third section is 300%, and so on.
Does everybody get this problem? How can I solve it?
    Thanks.

I couldn't find a solution... I gave up using "Display as Running Sum" and I created in the criteria tab a formula to solve this (using RSUM BY).

  • "Display As Running Sum" Feature

    Hi
Tried to use "Display As Running Sum" feature and it looks like it adds all the values across the pivot table and does not reset it on a new row...
So for instance we ahve a table as follows
    A 1 2
    A1 3 4
    A2 5 6
    After running sum applied:
    A 1 3
    A1 6 10
    A2 15 21
Is there any way value could be reset after each row ? Any hidden configuration file to be changed ?

    Initial data is:
    Product Date Value
    A Day1 1
    A Day2 2
    A Day3 3
    A1 Day1 4
    A1 Day2 5
    A1 Day3 6
    A2 Day1 7
    A2 Day2 8
    A2 Day3 9
    Pivot table looks like:
    ---- Day001 Day002 Day003
    A 1 2 3
    A1 4 5 6
    A2 7 8 9
Required table (values disaplyed as running sums by product)
    ---- Day001 Day002 Day003
    A 1 3 6
    A1 4 9 15
    A2 7 15 24
PROBLEM: its easy to create formula RSUM(value by product) and put it as pivot table measure BUT I have around 1000 reports with different dimensions which requires to create RSUM(value by dimension1), RSUM(value by dimension2) ... RSUM(value by dimension1000) and its sort of nightmare...
Instead of RSUM I thought that feature "Display As Running Sum" could be used, but its not working as expected in terms of it does not get reset for each row. How do I configure "Display As Running Sum" to reset value for each row ?
PS: this is what "Display As Running Sum" gives
    ---- Day001 Day002 Day003
    A 1 3 6
    A1 10 15 21
    A2 28 36 45

  • Queston on Pivot Table

I have a query that has a couple of columns. Two of these columns are a CASE structure analyzing several records/rows.
These two columns are part of a Pivot table with the "Sigma" property indicating to sum the values.
Everything running ok... below is an example of the Pivot table:
    Jan Feb March ....
    VVV 15 12 20
    TTT 40 50 60
I just need to include a 3rd. row in the pivot table that need to show: TTT/VVV
I've tried several options like defining a new criteria with SUM(CASE..., ), duplicating rows in Pivot table, etc. but all insuccesful.
I'd appreciate any idea or help.
    Txs.
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
Try with using combine with similar request
    Jan Feb March ....
    VVV 15 12 20
    TTT 40 50 60
    combine with similar request
    select a column and Enter as 'Total' | SUM(TTV) / SUM(VVV)
    Hope this helps...
    Thanks,
    Aravind

  • How to disable Pivot Table Prompt ability to move into sections?

Pivot Table Prompts can be moved to sections when report is running. How can the ability to move the prompts be disabled?
When running the analysis, hover near the beginning of the prompt to get the arrows.
Can then drag and drop the prompt into another section of the report.
Can also do the same and move it back up into the prompt, but users sometimes accidentally move the prompt and can't get it out of the section.
How can the drag and drop of the pivot table prompts be disabled?
    Thanks
