Running the VI causes LabVIEW to crash

Hello
While debugging a SW, I found that a particular VI, when run, causes LabVIEW to crash. This happens whether this VI is called while executing an exe or called by higher VI or even when it is run separately.
The VI to be run is NLD_Test_PP_Plot.vi present in the folder "Generic VI's".
The input for this VI is .csv file, which is attached. The csv file needs to be placed in a separate location and that path needs to be entered in the string constant in the VI.
Note: This VI is developed and run in LV v2009.
Thanks
Sharath

LabVIEW did not crash for me (nor did it throw an error).  It made a bmp of your data and then exited.  I am using LV 2013.
Did it actually crash or did it throw an error?  If it crashed, do you have the crash zip file?

  • Deny Access function with invalid file refnum causes LabVIEW to crash

    Hi folks,
I have LabVIEW 8.5, and today encountered something interesting that consistently causes LabVIEW to crash.  Essentially, if you find the "Deny Access" function under the advanced file IO palette and wire up an invalid refnum, Windows (XP in my case) reports that LabVIEW has to close.  I checked in task manager, and the LabVIEW process is still active and using a disproportionate amount of the CPU.
To reproduce the issue, simply drop the function on your block diagram, create a constant from the refnum input terminal, and run the VI.  Has anyone else seen this behavior?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Carla,
I'm glad to help, and thanks for looking into it.  The way I ran into the bug was while I was working on an action engine VI to log certain text values (see attached picture).  While logging, I didn't want other programs to access the file.  When a new file had to be generated, I wanted to stop denying access and close the reference.  However, if the value on the shift register was invalid, LabVIEW crashed instead of throwing an error (I guess a crash qualifies as an error).
If you look at the attached picture, my workaround was to use the "Not A Number/Path/Refnum?" function.  If the reference is bad, I don't try to use the "Deny Access" funtion or close the file.  That worked just fine and seems like a good solution for now.

  • I would like to convert a matlab file into a .dll and use it in LabVIEW. However, when I run the .dll in LabVIEW I get an error stating "... Procedure not found". What could this be? Can anyone help me...

I wish to convert my Matlab files into .dll's so that I can use them in LabVIEW. I am using 'mcc' and 'mbuild' of Matlab to convert my .m files into .c and .dll.
When I try to run the .dll's in LabVIEW, I get an error message in a modal window stating some required .dll or procedure is not found.
How should I resolve this issue. Should I add any other Matlab .dll's in course of making my .dll?

A Vi I have written passes measurement data out via a 1 dimentional array however on trying to create a Multiple Numeric Limit Test Step with this VI within Teststand, Labview throws an exeption and closes. Labview version 7.1.1 Teststand 3.1

Can you post the VI you created and a sequence file that calls it? When you were asked to specify the module, did you have TestStand create it or was it a VI that you wrote outside of TestStand? Did you assign the array from LabVIEW to Step.NumericArray?

  • I am using datasocket in seperate vi, with error catching, but network slowdown causes labview to crash without any error message ...

I have a master computer setup as a datasocket server with several vi's that publish. I have about 5 other computers each with a vi that reads the data socket publisher. The interval at which the 5 vi's read is every 15 minutes, concurrently. It seems that when ever there is a network slow down, LabVIEW crashes catastrophically, even though I have timeouts in the datasocket readers. Is this error related to the datasockets not being able to handle the slow down or something else? Should I use another technique - if so - which is more reliable (FTP, TCP/IP?). This bug has been hounding me for several MONTHS.

One thing I forgot to mention - the 5 datasocket readers are also web servers, serving out the front panels to the web after getting updated. Well, after weeks of trial and error, would you believe that if I turn off the web server logging, everything works fine. I have had it off for a week now and no crashes. I first discovered this by realizing that if I turned off the web server everything ran fine (which would be totally useless for my application), so then I searched this site and found an off the cuff remark about the web server logging function causing crashes for an unrelated problem. I figured what the heck, I'll disable it and see what happens. So far so good, I am still keeping my fingers crossed ...

  • ITunes Match causing iTunes to crash

I have read many discussions around how to work around the Match causing iTunes to crash, but I cannot seem to get past it with the suggestions made in other discussion threads, hence I thought I might try a new one to focus on my specific case.
    I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, i7-2600, iTunes 11.0.4.4.
One option many suggest is to add to the View iCloud Status. Unfortunately, I do not have this option in my view menu! It goes from "Grouping" to "Kind". So, I can't see which songs are potentially causing the issue. I did delete songs with no time (less than 1 sec), but it was only a couple and did not make a difference I think.
It has crashed many, many times as I have attempted to go through the process and although I generally make some progress through the entire process, it still gets hung up and I have not successfully made it the entire way. I do have access to what has uploaded through my devices, but it is so frustrating - especially at the $25 per year cost for this.
The additional frustrating part is that when it does crash, you have to log off, log back on, then turn the whole darn thing back on to start it over once again! Mind you, it does go through the steps quicker, but regardless I am sitting here watching the thing go through step 1, step 2, then on to step 3, start uploading artwork and remaining songs, only to have it continue to crash with a couple thousand songs left to go.
Can anyone help with additional suggestions on what to do, how to show the iCloud status, etc.?

I did find how to add the iCloud status - which shows up as an option when Match is turned on - but I didn't try to access it while the Match was working previously. Unfortunately, it STILL crashes but I can at least see what is eligible or not until it does! [Why doesn't it still show up when Match is turned off? Just rhetorical questioning.]

  • LabVIEW 2009 crashes at startup with the presence of a certain CRT version on the system

When installing our LabVIEW integration package on a system running
LabVIEW 2009 LabVIEW will crash at startup afterwards. Using 'dependency
walker' reveals, that 'nicont.dll' causes this crash because of a
side-by-side configuration problem. After some debugging I found out
that on this particular system installing a certain version of the
Microsoft CRT will stop LabVIEW from functioning. My fix now is to
recompile our code with a newer version of VS. I now ship a VS9 version
of the runtime and everything is working as expected.
    However
I guess the real problem lies within the LabVIEW installer. I guess a
needed version of the CRT is not installed by LabVIEW. It still works
because due to some policy files on the machine it gots defaulted to a
compatible version at startup. However when I install the following 2
merge modules on the target system LabVIEW does no longer work:
    Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86.msm (file version inside: 8.0.50727.762)
    policy_8_0_Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86.msm (file version inside: 8.0.50727.4053)
    Renaming
the *.policy file in the SxS dir on the target system gets LabVIEW back
to run, but of course other SW needing this file does not run then
I was using XP, 32 bit SP 3
I can provide additional information if needed. Is this a known problem? Is there a fixed version of LabVIEW already?
Message Edited by anotherStefan on 02-05-2010 05:44 AM

Sure! I tried to attach the installer causing the problem to this message.
However I failed miserably(BAD GATEWAY from the upstream server). Where can I upload the installer to or what do I need to do?
It will install some other stuff as well (A bunch of VIs, a DLL and an
OCX(this needs the CRT I have trouble with)and the CRT and MFC runtimes I
mentioned. An updated version of the installer can be obtain here(however it does no longer show the issue):
    http://www.matrix-vision.com/functions/count.php?url=products/hardware/family/SC/mvBlueFOX/LabVIEW_a...
The only difference between the two packages is, that the OCX in the
attached file has been build using VS2005SP1 and in the package the link
points to I did use VS2008. Apart from that I changed the 2 merge
modules from Microsoft (CRT and MFC)

  • LabVIEW program crashes after running for few hours

    Hello,
I am doing some experiments at the moment which are supposed to last for 18 hours.
Basically, I use a LabVIEW program to control a power supply through a LabJack U6 DAQ. I am currently using LabVIEW 8.5 on Windows 7.
In order to do that, I use a laptop where everything has been disabled such as power management settings, network access is off, windows updates are also off...
As far as I know, the computer can't turn into sleep mode or just shut down (I'm a 100% sure of that actually).
But last night, I started an 18 hours experiment at 5 pm, and when I came in this morning, the program shutted down by itself. Fortunately, the power supply is still providing the voltage I want, but I can't figure out why the program crashes.
When I start the experiment, it also automatically starting saving data in a spreadsheet file (I guess the size of the file should be 36 MB), so it might be a problem of memory access or something.
I really don't know what could have cause this crash, does someone have an idea?
I saw some other threads similar to my problem but I am not running an executable, I am running the front panel directly from the editing mode.

    Hi,
thank all of you for your quick answers!
@Josborne : I do not have an error handling in my program. Actually you can look at my program in the attachment file. This is my first LabVIEW program so I've never dealt with error in and error out function... Moreover, what is a log file exactly?
@Johnsold : Yes, I am building an array continously growing over time. Actually, my program stops saving data when you hit the "STOP" button, it doesn't write into a spreadsheet file through a period of time, that is something I eventually need to correct.
@LabJackSupport : I can try to reduce my time step, so far it's 100 ms. I have a problem with disconnecting the USB cable from the computer though : for no reason, if I just unplug the connection between the LabJack U6 and the computer, my power supply will just go providing 157 Volts! And for my experiment, this is something we don't want to have so we just leave it as it is now. Disabling some part of the program is a good idea, I can try it
    Thank you for your answers

  • Error 404 causes Labview 2010 to crash but only occasionally

    Hello,
I am requesting help to solve a problem with LabVIEW 2010 crashing.  I am new to this company and the last Labview developer left without providing
background on this problem. Labview crashes after running project VIs. Labview closes without warning or error messages. The project acquires data from pressure transducers, dP transducers, thermocouples, IEPE, load cells, and voltages through NI real-time system and has digital I/O. NI hardware includes PXI-1050 with modules 6221, 6280, 6224, 6220 and NI PXI-1052, SCXI-1306, SCXI-1112, SCXI-1520, and SCXI-1102. I've reviewed the labview program and the software relies heavily on shared variables, references, and local variables but I cannot find anything that stands out as a problem in the software .
The program crashed again today after running for only 1/2 hour and was not recording data. No error message occurred before the crash and the only error after restarting LabVIEW was the standard message that LabVIEW did not close properly. I went to the Event Viewer and at the time of the crash I received the following information:
    Event ID = 3299
    Source = LabVIEW
    Log = Application
    Level = Error
LabVIEW Information: Error 404 "Not found" for "/national instruments/ real-time execution trace toolkit/ 2.0/ trace receiveport", file "Crogram files (x86)/ national instruments /shared/ ni webserver/ www/ national instruments/ real-time execution trace toolkit/ 2.0/ trace receiveport": Can't access URL
According to Event Viewer, this error 3299 occurred 15 times in the last 3 days. LabVIEW crashed today at 10:19 am at the same time this error 3299 occurred but LabVIEW did not crash the other times this error occurred in the last 3 days. I believe this error is related to the crash but does not usually cause the crash. It appears to me from reading the error message that the error is the result of occasional lose of communication with the real-time system (Can't find URL). Any suggestions how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Bill

    1. Have you had this code working before on this or another machine?
    2. Which operating system and version of LabVIEW are you running? (This can be found in Control Panel >> All Control Panel Items >> System)
    3. Which National Instruments Drivers are you using? (This can be found in the measurement an automation explorer under the software tab [a screenshot would be good])
I would look into removing afsetup.exe which is a data collection tool provided by Microsoft which could a) not be installed correctly and/or b) trying to pull data from LabVIEW.  I think this may help you out, as even though your programs aren't explicitly calling it, the service is running in the background.
Secondly, I would look into stopping the NI Web Server application that could be polling a web page that's not needed.

That being said I would try to disable the large amount of code.  Say you have a Main that launches a bunch of stuff, put a disabled diagram code around the launching part and then try to rebuild.  It is a very slow process (especially when the build takes a while to fail) but by doing this you can more isolate the parts of the code that can cause the crash.  The only time I've seen a crash on build like you described, I simply rebooted and it was fine.  Usually because of my own fault by stopping code in a bad way previously leaving things in memory.

  • Is iTunes 12 incompatible with the iPod Classic (2007) and may cause it to crash?

When I upgraded to iTunes 12 and synced my library with it, I noticed that my iPod Classic (160 GByte model, bought in 2007 when it was new, with firmware version 1.1.2 installed) became very unstable. The first sign of trouble was that it would no longer show any album art whatsoever. Then merely navigating through playlists would cause it to reboot. Finally, the iPod got stuck in a reboot cycle from which it did not recover on its own accord (reboot ... read from disk ... followed about a minute later by a crash and reboot).
I managed to run the built-in diagnostics on the device, and the usual suspects (memory, hard disk) checked out fine. I was surprised to find that after seven years of constant use the disk does not show a single defect.
Restoring the firmware and then synchronizing my library to the iPod took about four hours after which only about 6 GByte of free space remained on the device (yes, I have a big library). Once ejected, the iPod proceeded to perform its housekeeping operations and then promptly crashed again. Eventually, I restored it to defaults and have not connected it to the Mac again since.
As far as I can tell the instability started with iTunes 12, and going back to version 11 is difficult for me. I am wondering if anybody else has seen this behaviour, hoping that this might be a software issue after all and not a broken iPod for which I am unlikely to find a replacement.

See Corrupt iPod classic, in particular the section on breaking up large transfers.
