Running this Shell file

Hello, I was wondering how to run this Shell file I cant get it to work.
#!/bin/bash
cd bin && java -Xmx1024M server
It opens in textedit by the way.
Thanks for your help.
Also, Ive dragged the file to terminal and hit enter I get the message
-bash: /Users/Steven/Desktop/run.sh: /bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
Should the file be in the folder that it came downloaded in?

I am concerned about the ^M which generally indicates that the script file is using either Mac <CR> line terminators, or Windows <CR><LF> terminators.
However, a Unix script need to have Unix <LF> line terminators.
You can use the file command to find out how your file's lines are terminated:
echo -e "
c" >tmp.cr
echo -e "
c" >tmp.crlf
echo -e "
c" >tmp.lf
file tmp.cr tmp.crlf tmp.lf
tmp.cr: ASCII text, with CR line terminators
tmp.crlf: ASCII text, with CRLF line terminators
tmp.lf: ASCII text
You want to see *ASCII text*
Generally getting <CR> terminated lines comes from using a Mac text editor or Mac word processor to create the script.
A <CR><LF> terminated file is generally one that came from a Windows system.

By creating a native executable you are restricting the program to the OS for which that native executable was made, just like removing the engine from a car restricts driving to downhill only. So like the I said, the principle remains the same, "Why would you want to?"
    I am asking you, truthfully, why do you feel the need to negate the largest advantage of using Java by creating a native executable from it?
    What is your rationale?
    I can pretty much guarantee there is a much better way of achieving your wish without "removing the engine".

  • How to run unix shell script from java web applet

    hi all
    i have created one java applet. my apache web server is on unix server.
    i have created one shell script in same directory where my .class and .htm files reside...
    how to run this shell script from applet? it should search this .sh file on server and not on the client browser machine...
    thanks in advance

    I suppose you could make the shell script into a CGI, configure the server to execute CGIs, and then make the applet open the URL of that CGI.

  • How to run a class file in MAC os, compiled in XP.

    Hi all,
    i am compiling a java program in windows using JDK 1.5 and i am copying this file to MAC os (Panther). In Mac i am running this class file using JDK 1.4.i am getting the following exception,
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassversion error.
    This is understandable, but is there any solution for this ...
    Any one experienced the same problem ...
    If any one comes up with a solution to solve this, plz let me know...
    Thanks in advance......

    You are compiling it in 1.5 and expecting 1.4 to run it?
    You have two options: compile it at the 1.4 level or upgrade your Mac to 1.5

  • Error when running a bat file

    Can someone tell me what this error means; "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
    I had Oracle XE on my Windows XP Pro SP3, but I also install the EE of Oracle which I haven't setup yet. Originally when I run this .bat file by double clicking on it, "setup_distran_database.bat", everything worked fine. But now, I am getting tghe above error. Not sure if it was because I installed Oracle EE.
    This is the .bat file:
    *@ECHO off*

  • Running a batch file - VERY URGENT .. help

    Hi people
    I am attempting to run a batch file from with a JSP page.
    the code i am using is:
    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process process = runtime.exec("cmd.exe /c d:\\uploadfiles.bat");
    This jsp file is located on the c: of a webserver.
    the uploadfiles.bat is located on the d: of the webserver and the code is:
    copy d:\videos\008214?.rm d:\blah
    copy d:\images\008214.* d:\blah
    copy d:\xml\008214.* d:\blah
    cd \blah
    pkzip -es -m 008214.zip *.*
    copy 008214.zip d:\upload\008214.zip
    del 008214.zip
    If I run this batch file from a command line, it works fine, though when I try and call it through my JSP page, it doesnt do anything .. a command window just pops up for a while, and then closes.
    How can I fix this ... I need this quite quickly
    Thanks people

    1) It is O.K. that you see nothing in that console. Its output is captured by Java and is not displayed on the screen.
    In general, that console should not be visible, but actually it behaves differently according to JDK and OS versions (treat that as a feature).
    2). Look at this article:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
    It it does not answer your problem, try to search the forums:
    http://search.java.sun.com/search/java/index.jsp?qp=%2Bforum%3A31&nh=10&qt=%2B%22exec%22+-%22Replies%3A+0%22&col=javaforums
    Questions about Runtime.exec() has been asked hundreds of times.
    3) runtime.exec() can execute BAT files. It is not necessary to specify that "cmd /C".

    ThanX.

    hello,
    on windows NT you have the AT functionality which is basic scheduling. however if you are using the oracle reports server you can schedule the report inside the server itself.

  • Running a batch file in Java. Urgent!!

    I want to run a batch file present at a particular location in Java.Although I am running two codes suggested by many people, i am still not able to run the batch file. My codes run as below :-
    CODE 1
    Process P;
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    P = rt.exec("C:\\test.bat");
    CODE 2
    Process P;
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    P = rt.exec("C:\\WINNT\\System32\\cmd.exe C:\\test.bat");
    I have tried both these codes but without success. But I have observed that in the Task Manager, whenever i run the above codes in a servlet, a "CMD.EXE" is being created in the "Processes" Bar each time but the batch file neither opens up nor it runs.
    Please suggest me some method to run this batch file in Java.
    Or if u can suggest the reason behind the above observation and any corrections i can make to run the batch file. Thanks in advance.

    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

    and when i run this .jsp file in commant prompt i am getting an error How do you run a jsp file from a command prompt? What command are you using?
    The standard way to run a jsp page is to deploy it onto a server as part of a web application, and then access the page through the browser.
    Tomcat should take care of compiling/running it for you.

  • Strange prob... to get correct o/p we have to run this prog twice ?????????

    hi,
    my problem is that i have created one bat file and i want to run that file in java but it is not running properly. the problem is .......
    i have created one bat file named "file1.bat" & content of this file is as follows :-
    [ ag > b.txt]
    (and content of file "ag" is "aaaaaaa" )
    now i am trying to run this bat file in java and want to read this b.txt in which i have redirected the content of file "ag".
    for that i have written the code like this:-file name is "runbf.java"
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.lang.Runtime;
    import java.io.*;
    public class DriveVol
    public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException
    int volumn;
    Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
    r.exec("ss.bat");
    FileInputStream fp;
    fp = new FileInputStream("b.txt");
    flush();
    do
    volumn = fp.read();
    System.out.print((char)volumn);
    }while(volumn != -1);
    fp.close();
    when i am running this programme first it is not displaying the content of b.txt. but when u run this prog twice then only it 'll give the correct ans. what i mean is, i'll explain that stepwise.
    1. as per my prog. -- r.exec("aa.bat") -- this line 'll execute first. so content of ag 'll redirect to file "b.txt"
    2. now i am trying to read the file "b.txt" using FIleInputStream...
    3. but first time it is giving some garbbage value.when i give --c:jdk1.3\bin>java runbf
    4. but the very next moment when again i run that file - c:jdk1.3\bin>java runbf
    it 'll give the correct value.
    5. again when i change the content of file ag(suppose "bbbbbbb"). & try to run "runbf.java" like this-
    -- c:jdk1.3\bin>java runbf --
    6. then it 'll display the value "aaaaaa". now when again i run that file
    it 'll give the correct value "bbbbbb"
    7. so every time i have to run that "runbf.java" twice for printing the correct
    value of file "b.txt"
    so what i think is that, it is not refreshing the data of file "b.txt". after executing this line
    r.exec("aa.bat");
    so is there any method to refresh the data of file "b.txt"??????
    i think u 'll try to understand my problem...
    so please help me to get the ans.......
    thx.........

    Cuz r.exec is asynchronous, dummy. Read the friggin API. It starts a background process. If you wanna wait for it to finish, then call
    Process p = r.exec(...);
    p.waitFor(whatever).

    Now when i am running this jar file by using the following command then i am getting the following error..

    I already add this jar files in the classpath of environment variables..Then also i am getting the same error..
    Kindly help me...........

    Well, let´s supose your manifest is defined as I did in my previous post. So, your directory base should be something like:
    C:\dir
    docbaseconnection.jar
    dctm.jar
    dfc.jar
    anotherlibraries.jar
    But, let´s supose you want something like
    C:\dir
    docbaseconnection.jar
    lib (folder, which contains dctm.jar, dfc.jar, etc)
    Then you should change the class-path of your manifest to
    Class-Path: ./lib/dctm.jar ./lib/dfc.jar
    That´s what I meant
