Running v10.4 (intel) on a UFS formatted system volume

Hello,
My (recently deceased) iBook ran Mac OS X v10.3, and I used to be able to install it onto a UFS formatted system volume. This was very useful to me in my work.
My new MacBook with v10.4 doesn't seem to allow this option during the install process. If I manually partition/erase the disk as UFS, the installer tells me it cannot continue until I've selected a target volume formatted with HFS+.
There doesn't seem to be anything about this sort of limitation on the Apple Knowledgebase - all documents referring to UFS that I've found seem to mention Mac OS X v10.4 in the context that it also supports running from a UFS system volume, just as in v10.3.
Am I missing something?
MacBook 13" 2.0GHz Duo (black)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I've got one of these as my "travel" laptop (where the trip might be 2-3 months long): http://www.notebooks.com/2009/05/26/hp-mini-110-netbook-introduced/
I run CF8, CF9, Apache, SQL Server 2008, CF Builder and half a dozen Firefox windows on it simultaneously, and it runs fine.
It was quite sluggish with the default 1GB of RAM, but I upped it to 2GB and it's fine.  It's not like lightning, but it's fine for working now.
I will also say that the display on it is too small for coding on for any length of time, but if one plugs ane external monitor in, it supports 1280x1024 OK, which is adequate to work on.  Plus I have plugged in a keyboard and a mouse.

  • Installing Zones roots on UFS formatted ZFS emulated volume.

I am piloting ZFS in our environment. ZFS seems to be very powerful and flexible feature in Solaris, which I like a lot.
Solaris will be used for Container/Zones hosting only.
    I would like to:
    1. Keep all LUNs in ZFS zpools.
    2. Create Emulated Volumes instead of /lofi/dev/x (attached mkfile files with UFS file system).
    3. Format Emulated Volumes (/dev/zvol/dsk/zpool001/vol001) with UFS and keep Zones root on them (Sun does not recommend to keep zones root on ZFS file system)
    4. Add emulated volumes as addition raw storage devices to zones.
I went through many ZFS guides and forums but still cant find answers to my three main questions:
    1. Can zones roots be stored on UFS formatted Emulated Volumes? (Emulated Volume is stored in a ZFS pool.)
    2. Can Emulated Volumes be easily resized if needed?
    3. Is the above plan fully supported or contradicts some Solaris limitations such as Dont keep Zones roots on ZFS file system?
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    I missed on more item:
Can emulated volume be created without space reservation, so it would grow form initial size 0.00?

  • How can you FORCE Classic mode to run on an Intel Mac? OS 9 emulation Rosetta Software Design

Hello everyone, I had a few thoughts on running Classic mode on intel macs which I wanted to share.
Now I know little about software design, but maybe someone who does could tell me if these ideas I had are at all feasible:
Now in the first place I now that, technically, "Classic" mode went out back with Tiger because of the switch to Intel chips. Switching to Intel, Rosetta was required to "translate" pre and non-intel OSX applications, with the exception of Classic since Rosetta does not translate deep enough into the system to do that. As a substitute to Classic, SheepShaver, Basilisk II, etc. can be used to emulate OS 9, but these are very lousy applications compared to Classic mode.
Is there ANY way whatsoever Rosetta could be edited, or Classic itself so that it will work on intel macs?
(that is, with the exception of 10.7+ systems since these don't even use Rosetta)
I know if Classic was placed on an intel mac, it would tell you to download Rosetta, but from there will crashes because frameworks in the system's library does not support (or was not designed for) Classic...
So what I wanted to know:
What if an old, Classic supporting PowerPC system's library folder was added to an Intel computer in a location other then that computers real system folder (as not to confuse the real, current system) and Classic manually edited so that it would search for the needed frameworks/etc files in the new location? Would it work?
Since, after all, it now has the correct "system" to run on (which before Rosetta could not convert), do you think there's any chance it would work and function properly?
Now beyond that, I wouldn't know the actual results (or consequences). I suppose the main problem to consider would be that the the PPC's system frameworks/etc wouldn't work at all on an Intel (which leads us back to Rosetta lacking in this area), and since those frameworks will be searching for other files in the system library (which would bring them to the current, Intel system) the same results would happen: crash! Or maybe sensing the system was mixed up, one or more files would try to "fix" themselves, and in turn destroy the computer's real system.
So, would it be worth a try?
I'd love to hear any other thoughts on running Classic on Intel...

There is an "easier" way to acquire SheepShaver called Chubby Bunny and I have put together a post with some safe links that are relevant to this topic.  I see that emaculation is one of them.
Why do you need OS 9 greater than 9.04?
Feel free to let me know if you need any more help.
With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9.
A related program is Chubby Bunny, which comes bundled with all of that included.

Help please as Apple  helpdesk and HMRC helpdesk cannot find out why.  I have even obtained a CD with the updates from HMRC and the same thing happens.

Thanks, this worked for me, too.
At first I tried to Quit Virusbarrier x6 but it kept on running. Then I disabled the Real-time Scanner and it all worked fine after that.

  • Can Indesign CC 2014 run on a Intel Celeron Processor?

Can Indesign CC 2014 run on a Intel Celeron Processor?

To expand upon Bob Levine's response, there is nothing in the Adobe installers that tests the CPU in terms of model, speed, and capabilities. That having been said, Intel Celeron processors have historically been stripped down, low power, low speed cousins to the mainstream Intel processor lines. It may possibly not support 64-bit operation in which case you would be restricted to the 32-bit flavor of InDesign and its address space limitations.
A Celeron processor might also be indicative of a system that isn't particularly well-endowed in terms of other resources including memory, disk, video, etc. and depending upon your configuration as well as the complexity of the documents you wish to create and/or edit, you might find performance lacking at best.
    Proceed with caution.

  • I'm running V10.6.8 and the system is not recognizing a San Disc adapter that I plug into the side of the keyboard. This always worked in the past. Whats changed?

I'm running V10.6.8 and the system is not recognizing the presence of a San Disc (SDHC) adapter that I plug into the left side of the keyboard. This always worked in the past. Whats changed? I can't upload my images to a folder.

Another item I'd found when getting an SD card for an older camera was the lack of backward support from the SD card if it was too new, while a newer camera can sometimes use an older SD card at a slower read-write speed. There are limits and ceilings on what kind of card works with old/new stuff.
So I ended up taking a nice SD card back to one store and had to settle on a 'walmart kinda dubious kingston two pack a cure' for the older Panasonic Lumix. Smaller capacity but seems to work OK for the era. I don't trust kingston with macs, but this 10 y/o Lumix seems to not care about that.
Hopefully you can obtain the correct cards, because some stores only sell parts for their inventory of cameras. And some adapters are limited too.
Depending on what I'm doing with the card and the camera it goes with, I attach the camera to the computer and not just the card in a reader. That way I can file items inside the camera SD card in a way the camera won't overwrite them. Later when I save everything from the card into an external hard disk drive, all my filed folders of images by date (I created in the SD) appear in order, in the later archive. Easier too, when I burn to DVD or CD media, to create yet another archive away from the computer or the camera.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Do you ever visit a friend or realtive with a Mac who has faster internet? Maybe the local library has Macs on a fast line. If so, get a USB thumb drive and put this link on it from your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then put this link on the drive:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
When you are at some place that has a Mac with a decent download speed. insert the thumb drive in that Mac and click on the first link ("DL1399") and direct the download to your thumb drive. Now do the same this with the second link.
The installer files will now be on the thumb drive and, when you get home, drag them from the thumb drive to your desktop. Install the Combo update first.

  • Will Muse run on the Intel Celeron 1007U 1.5 GHz

    Hello!
Tell me, please, will Muse run on the Intel Celeron 1007U 1.5 GHz ?
I understand that in system requirements stands "2 GHz or faster", but maybe the program will run on 1.5 Ghs, not fast and good, but will? Or not?
    Thank you

    Hello
For Muse you need Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 processor (2 GHz or faster) with 64-bit support.

  • Will my copy of FCP run on the Intel machines

I currently have a G5 with a PowerPC chip and I am looking at purchasing one of the new MacBooks. However, I heard a rumor on the internet that my copy of FCP, which was purchased a year ago, will not run on the Intel machines.
    Is this correct?

Ok I found the link. So I have the entire Final Cut Studio Production Suite that I bought this Spring. So that means it will just cost me $49 for the upgrade?
Does the crossover effect any other applications?

    Thanks John,
I've done this, but couldn't gather clear information about whether the graphics card was suitable for Premiere CC? Using CPUbenchmark it seemed to me like it would be suitable. Its unlikely we would use After Effects CC but would be handy if it would work.
Also the G2030 dual core? Can you recommend how I find out if this would work, as the site states the requirement to be a Dual Core2... does this mean the software (Premiere CC, Photoshop CC, Indesign CC etc) would not work at all?
    Any guidance helpful.

v10.6 isn't an update, it's an upgrade. You must purchase v10.6 / Snow Leopard.

    Their answer was this ...
The version for GNX4 MACOSX is only for PPC based Mac. There is no Intel version as the product was discontinued before Intel based MAC came out.
I guess I should give up, hehehe...
