Running WL Server Instance From Console

I tried asking this under another newsgroup and haven't gotten a response.
It's been a couple of weeks, so I thought I'd try again here.
I have been working with Weblogic 5.1 for a couple of weeks now and have
gone through most of the examples without any major hickups. One problem
I'm hitting though. My weblogic.properties file is configured to deploy two
EJBs. If I start the server from the Windows start menu (I'm running on
Windows 2K), the server starts fine (the beans are deployed). Likewise, if
I use the startWeblogic.cmd, the beans are deployed correctly and the server
starts successfully. However, if I attempt to start the server from the
console, I get an error in bean deployment. The error is similar to one I
was getting a while back after I installed SP4 (I ran WLConfig and modified
startWeblogic.cmd as described in the instructions, but originally had the
SP4 boot jar in the wrong spot - I fixed this). However, when I try to
start the server from the console, I don't see the SP4 jars under classpath
and weblogic.class.path, the beans don't deploy properly and the server
startup fails. Where does the console get this information / how does it
start the server instance? I'm going to keep looking, but if this rings a
bell to anyone, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any input.

  • Running Multiple Server Instance in Weblogic Server

    Hi
    I am using Weblogic 5.1.0 with SP6. I am trying to run multiple server
    instances
    of Weblogic Server. The one that comes by default is "myServer".
    My question is if i were to create multiple server instances, do i need to
    copy the
    weblogic.properties file in each of folder corresponding to respective
    application
    server instance. I am not using Clusters.
    Also if i need to include some classes or jar files in my application server
    instance
    classpath, how do i do it. cuz in weblogic.properties file i didn't find any
    property
    corresponding to classpath.
    The classpath i need to set is for my creating a JDBC pool for connectivity
    to my
    AS400 DB2 database using the Type 4 (AS400JDBCDriver) Driver. Is there some
    other way to do it.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    1)To get mysql JDBC driver to work on my Linux system, i had to add the classpath for the driver to the .bashrc:
    CLASSPATH=./:home/<user>/java/mm.mysql-2.0.6/:home/<user>/java
    Note that I execute the java program as the user <user> (and .bashrc is the config. file of this <user>...). Perhaps you must do this as well for the Oracle driver on your client machine. I don't know if your client machine is UNIX/LINUX or WINDOWS. It should only be clear that the CLASSPATH is set in the config. file of the user under which the java program runs and that this user has the permission to access the files.
    There are no differences between accessing the database locally than accessing it by a network connection. The only thing that matters are that the connection parameters are right and that the network works properly.
    2) are you sure that the table tname (case sensitivity?) exits?

  • Is there any way to clear Managed Server tmp from console or automatically?

    When we undeploy, and then install a new version of a web application (Managed Server on Weblogic 12.1.2, using a deployment plan and default staging, which is copy to server), the web application still behaves like the old version. If we clear the tmp directory of the managed server beforehand, the changes are correctly reflected, which is fine if you have access.
    But the issue is: We want to give developers deployment access to the admin Server (so they test their application in a representive environment), but we do not want them doing anything on the underlying OS.
    I have googled, checked in books and searched in the console, but I have not yet found any way to force Weblogic to clear its temporary space automatically with every restart or deployment, nor any option to do this manually from the console (which a deployer could then do himself).
    Am I overlooking something obvious? How would you get around this issue?
    Thanks for any hints or answers & Cheers!
    Bogoy

    Thanks all,
    "nostage" isn't really a current option, as it requires the deployment to be deployed to the filesystem - which again means the user needs access to the OS, or then some deployment staging area needs to be set up having some script distribute the deployment to all the machines it needs to be located on, respectivley to a shared mount.
    Appearantly the tmp directory is not cleaned up in all situations.
    Oracle Support is trying to tell me, that this not a bug.
    If that where so, this somehow invalidates the purpose of the default "deployer" role in weblogic, with which a admin console user can only monitor and deploy applications, but does not have admin access, as this user will always also need access to the OS. I fail to see how this would be by design, if clearing tmp or giving the option to do so in weblogic, would allow for console only deployer functionality.
    Scripting deletion of the directoy may be a workaround, but due to different setups it might be a hassle and such a script would also still not be invokable for the deployer on the console as long as we are running nodemanager in java-based mode. (changing this to script-mode is not possible short term)
    But much appreciated input - thanks

  • Unable to create 5.1 instance from console

    I'm using the admin server bundled with 5.1SP2 to manage a single 5.1 directory instance and a single 4.16 directory instance. I also use version 5.1 of the directory console. Until now this has worked fine.
    However, now I need to build another 5.1 instance. When I try to use the "Create Instance Of Iplanet Directory Server" tool in the "Server Group" contextual menu, I get a generic error message. Looking in the admin server logs, I see the following:
    [22/Jul/2003:12:15:23] warning (10928): for host myhost.my.domain trying to POST /slapd/Tasks/Operation/Create, send-cgi reports: cannot find CGI program /ldap/iplanet/servers/bin/slapd/admin/bin/index (No such file or directory)
    It appears that the "Create Instance Of" is trying to use the "index" utility which is the command-line tool used for creating Netscape 4.16 instances, not IPlanet 5.1 instances. It is failing, since that utility is not installed as part of the iPlanet 5.1 administration server package.
    To wit: the IPlanet 5.1 administration tool is trying to use 4.16 utilities to create a 5.1 instance. This obviously doesn't work, since the 4.16 utilities aren't part of the 5.1 installation and probably wouldn't work to create a 5.1 instance, anyway.
    I'm at a loss. Advice, anyone?
    Thanks!

    They are done using an audio mixing application like Soundtrack Pro or Pro Tools. It's all done manually by an audio engineer to give it a "sense" of surround, but it's just an illusion the audio engineer makes by panning channels around by phase or temporal shifting of the original stream.
    There may be a way to automate this by scripting the tools beind used, but its still up the audio engineer to create the appropriate presets to begin with.

    the Server, this approach has not been too much of a hassle.  However we would like to tidy this up if possible. This the VBA code that is causing the problem:
        obj_SQLServerInstance2.Start _
            g_SQL_UseWindowsAuthentication, _
            SQLServerInstance, _
            UserName, _
            Password
    This still works when run under XP, but fails under Windows 7 with the Error:
    [SQL-DMO]Service Control Error: Access is denied.
    Does anyone know how to resolve the problem?

    This still works when run under XP, but fails under Windows 7 with the Error:
    [SQL-DMO]Service Control Error: Access is denied.
    Hello Brian,
    Under Windows 7 you have to run the VBA script with admin permission, a normal user don't have permissions to start/stop services.

  • Unable to Connect to SQL 2000 Instance from Windows Server 2012 environment

    We have a windows server (TEST) 2012 environment , where our test SQL Server 2012 instance is hosted.
    We have a different (DEV) Server (windows 2000)  where a SQL Server 2000 instance is present.
    When I RDP to our Windows Server 2012 box, I cannot connect to the SQL 2000 server instance from SQL Management Studio. (whereas I can connect to
    the same server from my local machine which has windows 7 and SQL 2012 installed).
    This is the error i see -
    "A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name
    is no longer available.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
    When run from SQL Agent Service from TEST (A Job which tries to connect to that SQL 2000 instance to read some data using SSIS) , we get the following
    error -
    An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead
    (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.".
    The same SSIS package runs successfully from my local machine.
    Please, could someone advice how to resolve this situation?

    Thanks Olaf.
    Its just that we have legacy systems here in our company, who, for some reason haven't upgraded their older infrastructure, whereas they have set up new Windows 2012/SQL 2012 environments for the newer sql instances where they want to transition to !
    Not sure what the solution is honestly. It is affecting our timelines now. The infrastructure team needs to take a decision now, as to what to do.
    I do have to add, we were able to connect to these "older" servers from our Windows 7 client machines which have SQL 2012 - both from SQL management studio & SSIS (using OLE-DB Provider for SQL Server).

  • Re: WLS51 multiple server instances - no clustering, no multihoming

    Hello - This is the answer to a private question, but I'm posting it to the
    group too in hope it will help.
    Our problem was, we had one computer (Solaris) with one IP address and one
    Weblogic license, but we had two (now three) teams of developers working on
    different projects for WLS. Since they needed different settings and
    configurations, they could not use a single Weblogic server instance, so we
    had to find a way to run multiple server instances independently on a single
    machine.
    I'd call this configuration "parallel-servers" - please remember that it is
    quite different from both multihoming and clustering because all the server
    instances are independent from one another (unlike clustering) but run on
    the same IP (unlike multihoming) and different port numbers.
    This is the simplest procedure for a Solaris computer:
    1: Install WebLogic.
    Let's say the WL installation folder is:
    /wls/weblogic/
    we'll call that:
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/
    It contains the default server instance folder
    /wls/weblogic/myserver/
    we'll call that:
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/myserver/
    2: Make some copies (as many as you need)
    of the default server instance folder
    with different names, you'll have:
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/myserver/
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/server_1/
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/server_2/
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/server_n/
    3: Locate the general properties file
    /wls/weblogic/weblogic.properties
    (we'll call it: WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/weblogic.properties)
    and make a copy of it into EACH of the individual
    server instance folders; you'll end up with:
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/weblogic.properties
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/myserver/weblogic.properties
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/server_1/weblogic.properties
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/server_2/weblogic.properties
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/server_n/weblogic.properties
    4: In EACH server instance's properties file
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/server_i/weblogic.properties
    set per-server values to all the properties
    specific to the individual server; at least:
    weblogic.system.listenPort=PORT_i
    weblogic.password.system=PWD_i
    weblogic.system.SSLListenPort=SSLPORT_i
    plus everything else it should need individually,
    that is, all the things that make that single
    server instance different from all the others
    (connection pools, ACLs, EJB auto deployments and so on)
    Do NOT modify the file
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/myserver/weblogic.properties
    (it's a backup copy of the default settings)
    5: In the GLOBAL properties file
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/weblogic.properties
    cancel or comment out all the properties
    that have been individually set for all
    the individual server instances; at least:
    weblogic.system.listenPort
    weblogic.password.system
    weblogic.system.SSLListenPort
    6: Locate the default server's startup script
    /wls/weblogic/startWebLogic.sh
    (we'll call it: WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/startWebLogic.sh)
    and make a copy of it (in the same folder)
    for EACH of the new individual server instances;
    you'll end up with:
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/startWebLogic.sh
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/startServer_1.sh
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/startServer_2.sh
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/startServer_n.sh
    7: In EACH server instance's startup script
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/startServer_i.sh
    set values to the properties:
    weblogic.home=WL_HOME/WLS_HOME
    (where WL libraries and global files are)
    weblogic.system.home=WL_HOME/WLS_HOME
    (where the GLOBAL weblogic.properties is)
    weblogic.system.name=server_i
    (where the PER-SERVER weblogic.properties is)
    weblogic.system.listenPort=PORT_i
    weblogic.system.SSLListenPort=SSLPORT_i
    with the -D option, as in:
    $JAVA $JAVA_OPTIONS -ms64m -mx64m -classpath
    $JAVACLASSPATH -Dweblogic.class.path=$WEBLOGICCLASSPATH -Dweblogic.home=$WL_
    HOME/$WLS_HOME -Dweblogic.system.home=$WL_HOME/$WLS_HOME -Dweblogic.system.n
    ame=server_i -Djava.security.manager -Djava.security.policy=`pwd`/weblogic.
    policy -Dweblogic.system.listenPort=PORT_i -Dweblogic.system.SSLListenPort=
    SSLPORT_i weblogic.Server
    8: If you like, you might also write a shutdown script
    for each server instance (often faster than the console)
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/stopServer_i.sh
    which might look like:
    java -classpath $JAVACLASSPATH weblogic.Admin t3://$HOSTNAME:PORT_i SHUTDOWN
    system $PWD_i
    9: If you need individual per-server security policies,
    also duplicate and customize the default policy file
    WL_HOME/WLS_HOME/weblogic.policy
    (just like you did with weblogic.properties in steps 3 to 5)
    and specify the corresponding property in each startup script
    with the -D option
    -Djava.security.policy=`pwd`/server_i/weblogic.policy
    10: Obviously, when you deploy and use your EJBs or JSPs or applications,
    you must make sure that you specify the right individual server's parameters
    (name, user, password, port, paths and everything else).
    And that's all; obviously, there are better ways to achieve the
    "parallel-servers" configuration, but this is the simplest one and is good
    enough for a basic development environment; you might need to tune some more
    properties to suit your specific requirements.
    On a WinNT computer, the procedure should be more or less the same, the main
    difference being: instead of .sh script files, you'll have to edit .cmd
    script files.
    I am very grateful to all the people on the newsgroups who helped me work
    that out. Good luck!

              You also need weblogic.system.name=server_n and I believe it's
              weblogic.system.home rather than weblogic.home. The latter should point
              to
              your /weblogic directory.
              Hope this helps.

  • ODSEE 11gR1: DS server instances displayed twice in DSCC console

    I recently migrated some DSEE 6.x DS instances to ODSEE 11gR1 (dsconf : 11.1.1.5.0 B2011.0517.2145) on RHEL 5.7 x64 .
    When running "./dsccreg list-servers -aC" on the DSCC host, I can see all my ODSEE instances.
    However, in the DSCC console, some instances appear twice, in the "Directory Servers" -> "Servers" sub-tab, and some others appear
    only once, normally.
    For the instances appearing twice, I have the following in the "Server" column:
    server shortname:389 (server not registered)
    server FQDN:389
    I'd like to know how to remove the "server not registered" lines. I don't know how does DSCC build this server list, but I've checked it's
    not defined under th cn=dscc tree.
    The problem with that wrong display, is that for example in the replication agreements tab, some replication agreements are displayed twice too,
    which is confusing.
    DSCC runs in a Tomcat 6.0.35 container, and my java version is as follows:
    java version "1.6.0_20"
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.10) (rhel-1.23.1.9.10.el5_7-x86_64)
    OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)
    Any idea ?

    I did what you suggested. Both commands worked fine and produced no errors but the problem remains in the DSCC GUI.
    When running ./dsccreg list-servers, it still works fine, I see all servers only once.
    Also, I noticed that if I look at the GUI between the remove-server and the add-server command, each server appears
    twice with the following comment between brackets: (server not registered).
    After registering the server again, one the "(server not registered)" comment 's been removed but the other instance
    with the comment remains.
    So, the remove-server command doesn't prevent an instance from being displayed in the DSCC GUI. This is what I'd like.

  • Start managed server from console?

    If I try to start a new weblogic 10.3 managed server from the console then i get this error:
    "The server myserver does not have a machine associated with it.
    All of the servers selected are currently in a state which is incompatible with this operation or are not associated with a running Node Manager or you are not authorized to perform the action requested. No action will be performed."
    Starting the same managed server from the dos prompt "bin/startManagedServer.bat myserver" works, so why is the weblogic console not working?

    Hi,
    To start any managed servers from Admin Console you need to have a Machine associated with that Managed server and have to start nodemanager, then only you can start a managed server from console.
    Following are the steps:
    1) Create a Managed Server (MS-1)
    2) Create a Machines (MachineA)
    3) In the above created MachineA add the MS-1 which can be done from the below console path
    Console Path:
    Machines --> MachineA --> Configuration [Tab] --> Servers [Sub-Tab]
    4) Now start nodemanager using the startNodeManager.sh script which can be found in the below path
    Path:
    wlserver_10.3/server/bin/
    5) Now you can try to start your MS-1 using the Admin Console.
    Note: If you still cannot start the your managed servers then would suggest you to have a look at the below post

  • Running package programmactically from console causes error if package uses connection in Connection Manager.

    Hello my friends:
    I attempted to run a few packages programmatically using the code and solution on this page:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms136090.aspx
    I observed that the script and process failed when I use the connection in SSIS/SSDT connection Manager in Visual Studio 2013. Meaning if I create a Connection for the Project in the Connection Manager and use it on tasks.
    However, the project and packages will run just fine if I simply add individual connection to each task where needed and do not use the Connection manager.
    If I use the Connection Manager, I get this error: This only happens when I run the package programmatically,
    if I run the package directly from Visual Studio, I get no errors.
    Error Message:
    Error in Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package/ : The connection "{0E6E938E-B0

    Connection Manager Screenshot:
    I am using that connection in an SQL Server Destination Task:
    And here is the code:
    class Program
    class MyEventListener : DefaultEvents
    public override bool OnError(DtsObject source, int errorCode, string subComponent,
    string description, string helpFile, int helpContext, string idofInterfaceWithError)
    Console.WriteLine("Error in {0}/{1} : {2}", source, subComponent, description);
    return false;
    static void Main(string[] args)
    string pkgLocation;
    Package pkg;
    Application app;
    DTSExecResult pkgResults;
    MyEventListener eventListener = new MyEventListener();
    pkgLocation =
    @"C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\ExampleConnectionMgr\DataExtractionB.dtsx";
    app = new Application();
    pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, eventListener);
    pkgResults = pkg.Execute(null, null, eventListener, null, null);
    Console.WriteLine(pkgResults.ToString());
    Console.ReadKey();
    Thank you everyone!

    I have confirmed that this problem, at least on the surface is caused by the lack of reference to the Connection in the Connection Manager as indicated by the error message.
    The solution here will require that the Connection is set directly within each task.
    If I simply set the connection in each task then the page runs just fine programmatically:
    I am also able to convert the Connection in the Connection Manager to Package Connection as shown in the screen shot below. This will override all references to the Connection Manager and make the connection local within each package or package
    task.
    Is there any other solution out there?
    Thanks again!
    Synth.
    This is exactly what I asked for in my previous post. Sorry if it wasnt clear.
    I guess the problem is in your case you're creating connection manager from VS which is not adding any reference of it to packages which is why its complaining of the missing connection reference

    Do you know how I can include the connection programmatically in code?
