Running XCOM: Enemy unknown on Arch

Hi!
I have a problem with running XCOM. To put it simply it doesn't start.
1) I followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Steam
I installed the required drivers from the Installation chapter.
I renamed libraries
libstdc++ libgcc_s libgcc_s libstdc++
so Steam has to use newer ones.
2) I run Steam in native runtime:
STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam
The following command doesn't output anything (I installed the libraries from AUR):
cd ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=".:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}" ldd $(file *|sed '/ELF/!d;s/:.*//g')|grep 'not found'|sort|uniq
3) As a result the following happens when I try to start XCOM:
3a) I see errors:
ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/melon/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.
pid 29091 != 29090, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)
[cut]
Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 200510
Steam_SetMinidumpSteamID: Caching Steam ID: 76561198079084106 [API loaded no]
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(gameoverlayui)/version(20140813141643)
3b) Then the XCOM logo appears
3c) The logo disappears and the message appears:
Game removed: AppID 200510 "XCOM: Enemy Unknown", ProcID 29098
Could someone prod me to some direction? I don't have a clue where to go next.

I have the same issue over here. I tryed to run it with command
konsole --hold -e '%command%'
from steam
This is the only output I get:

Please say something if you find a clue to what's happening

    Hello
    I had problems with the OpenGL rendering error message on Steam, but searched for solutions and removing a library (I sadly dont recall which exactly) I got rid of the error message. XCOM itself isnt working though, but atleast Fistful of Frags ran without a problem

    As far as I see the r600 drivers cannot be loaded due to "x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.20' not found". I tried removing the libraries recommended on the threads of other users with that problem but it only removed the Steam error message not the problem and stupidly copying commands which removed some libraries probably did more damaged than it fixed.
    I'd really appreciate help, this is my first time admitting defeat and having to ask on the forums...

    Cobbling together some of the messages, it seems that you need to install some 32 bit libs.

  • Run a qt program in arch

    I want to run a qt program in arch. Is it necessary to install KDE or GNOME desktop before that? or I can simply run it in console as well? considering that the program is a GUI program with OpenGL.
    if it is possible to run in console as well before tell me how, I have already installed xorg and start x works fine.

    If the program you need to run is present in the repos, simply install it and pacman will fetch all the required dependencies (i.e., any relevant part of KDE) by itself.
    To sum it up, you don't need to run the KDE suite, but you will have to install the relevant dependencies. The program itself should run fine with any WM or DE.
    what about if I do not download qt using pacman and instead install qt offline? in that case how will it know which dependencies it needs to download?
    1) Stop what you're doing.
    2) Think very carefully about what it is you want to accomplish.
    3) Explain in detail to the people here what it it is you are trying to accomplish, why you wish to do so, and what you've attempted so far in order to do so.
    So far, you've met every answer to one of your questions with yet another, seemingly unrelated question; you're just leading the folks here in circles with no clear goal. No matter what it is you happen to be doing, or when, or where, this is simply not an effective or efficient way to get things done. Arch is a Do-It-Yourself distribution and community; folks here will only remain patient for so long.

    You problem having to do with the new pacman version 3.1no longer have a /etc/pacman.d/core file, so this is hardly a 64 bit fault.
    What other problems you run into? Post them and we'll we if we can solved them.

  • While IE 8 prints FF 3.6.16 runs into a "unknown error" when I attemp to print from a website; how to fix it?

    I call up a web page, I click on File and the click on Print. The print process begins but at about 50% progress an error message pops up saying that "An unknown error has occurred in the printing process..." and the process comes to a halt.
    IE 8 simply prints the same page without difficulty. HP support was not able to help.

    Not sure if this helps,but something bizarre is happening in my Preferences. The "print.print_printer" entry has disappeared (which I had reset earlier),and when I close and restart FF,the settings in Preferences change,seemingly at random.Sometimes Print works,sometimes it doesn't. • Fatal Run Time Error - unknown source position thread id

    Hi All,
    I am using LabWindows CVI 2013 in order to display data from my controller.
    I have defined some functions to activate the communication with the controller and read data from it.
    The communication activation with the controller is being done inside the Main block before loading the UI panels.
    I created a command button that activates the data reading function (Get Register) from the controller.
    When calling the reading function I received a Fatal Run Time Error. Attached please find.
    When I moved the reading function to the main block before loading the UI, the program didn't crush.
    What is the cause for that?
    Thanks for your support.

    Hi Haim,
    Could you explain what you mean by moving the function to the main block? Does that mean instead of having a callback, you added the four lines in that callback (according to the attached image) to the main function? When you do this, does the code execute correctly?
    And can you tell me what DLL package you are using that contains the Jet32Functions.GetRegister function?
    The error is very generic, so it is hard to say what is causing it without seeing the entirety of the code, but it appears that there is a conflict in the thread control. Does the error occur only when you activate the callback by clicking the command button? Which lines are executed in the callback before the error occurs?
    It would be helpful if you could attach your source file or at least a screenshot of the working code so I can see the entire main function.
    Steven

  • Fatal run time error: unknown source position

    I am getting a fatal run-time error when using CVI 8.0.1.  I get the error when any program I write is exiting.  Here's an example source:
    #include <ansi_c.h>
    int main(void)
        char buf[512];
        printf("press enter to exit\n");
        gets(buf);
        return 0;
    after I press enter to exit, the program hangs for a few seconds and then I get the error.  This only started happening after I upgraded to CVI 8.0.1.  I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling / going back to earlier versions and I always have the problem now.

    It sounds like something went wrong with the initial install or possibly there was problems with removing previous versions. Since uninstalling and reinstalling did not fix this, I would suggest you to use a utility called MSI Blast. This will show all installations that are on your machine and allow you to remove these installations. This is a last resort program and should never be used to replace Add/Remove Programs, but since something sounds as if it is corrupt, I feel it is best to use this. Here is the link.

    You will need to remove and reinstall all NI components to assure that we remove the corrupt file. It is definitely something local to your machine as I was not able to replicate the problem with your provided code. Please run this utility and let me know once you have pick this up off of the ftp, as we do not leave this utility up for long.

  • Pacman "key could not be looked up remotely", "run-parts: key unknown"

    I am getting errors shown when running `pacman -Syu`
    Whats wrong & how can I fix this?
    UPDATE
    OK, this is solved by
    mv /etc/pacman.conf.pacnew /etc/pacman.conf
    Then probably you need to uncomment ... below ... in pacman.conf
    SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
    Then
    pacman -S filesystem --force
    And
    rm /etc/profile.d/locale.sh

    I can't install anything. Keep getting that error
    You should be able to install packages, but you need to download them manually [1] and install with 'pacman -U packagename'.

  • Global keys to minimize/close running clients (like games) in Arch?

    I'm on Arch x64 with awesome window manager stand-alone.
    How can I set a global hotkey, so that, for example, when I'm playing a game, I could minimize/close it?
    The keys for Awesome will get disabled when I'm in a game or something... so how can I implement that?
    Thanks a lot!

    from what I can tell the app takes control of all keys when full screen  especially games(not to be confused with maximized/windowed). apps like firfox, mplayer, etc. fullscreen are different thy comply with the wm's controls as long as they do not conflict with there own. as for keys that do things like you say is entirely dependent on the app; even with windows with the alt+tab or windowkey+tab was a consencess with developers.

  • Unable to install Xcom after download from MAS

    Since yesterday i try to install the game Xcom: Enemy unknown - Elite Edition from the Mac App Store (MAS).
    The game downloads fine - wich takes close to 2h for the 13,5gb - and then the button switches to "installing" wich suddenly ends with "unknown error", please try again. and boy i've tried..
    now it's the second day downloading this over and over again and i'm seriously pi**ed that i didn't use ferals online store but the MAS.
    i hope someone has any hint what i can do?
    what i already did:
    1) deleted the file and tried again
    2) deactivated "little snitch"
    3) cleared the cache and tried again
    4) cleared the temp cache and tired again
    5) used onyx to clear the system, cleaned the app store cache, rebooted and treid again
    6) set up a new user and tried again
    all in all nothing worked for me. and after 5x times downloading (thats 10hrs!) i'm seeking for wisdom that goes beyond my google skills.
    any help appreciated.
    thanks,
    robotobi

    Hey,
    The exact same thing happened to me.  App store support was very nice- but never figured out what was causing the issue.  Luckily im on vacation now and could use my mom's mbp to download the game and then transfer it to my computer but it was super frustrating.  My biggest problem is now most of my large app store downloads are behaving this way and i don't know how to fix it and neither does apple- makes me want to buy games from steam instead.
    If you ever figure out what the problem was please let me know- ill do the same

    Hey,
    I just tried to launch Portal 2 via Steam, but it immediately crashes. Executing the launcher directly gives the following error output:

    I'm using the latest open source radeon driver and removed the following libraries from Steam according to arch's wiki page in order to get rid of some errors:
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6

    Games like Portal, Dungeon Defenders, CS:S, Micron, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and L4D 2 run absoloutly fine. Does anyone else have the same problem or know how to fix it? Maybe these infos can help..

  • PC App logs out in the midst of a game download... :( WTF!?

    Hey there,
    I've never used Best Buy's online store to buy anything but this time I thought I'd try it since Steam kept refusing to accept my payment. I'm about 30% into my XCom Enemy Unknown download, however, it has occurred to me that the PC App has a nasty tendency to log you out and hence suspend your download. That is unless you are not actively staring at its interface until your download finishes. This has occurred twice in the last hour and thirty minutes and I can't say that I'm exactly pleased about this. Tell me I'm crazy but I think that this is ABSURD! My download is not going to be done for hours, which is OK, but do I really have to have the fugly PC App screen up in front of me the whole time? Can't I do other things on my computer while my game's being downloaded without having to frantically switch over to the PC App to make sure it is indeed downloading my game and NOT in the logout state?
    I would appreciate that something is done about this issue.
    Cheers,
    Dre

    Constantly experiencing failure to download xcom enemy unknown.

    Tips for downloading apps from the App Store.
    -  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed.
    -  Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion.
    -  Third party download managers are not compatible with the App Store.
    Contact the FlatMol app developer here.
    If you do not receive a reply from the developer within 48 hours, report the issue to Apple using the email form here.

  • Worrying fan noise?

    Hi all,
    I was wondering what constitutes worrying fan noise on my new 2014 MacBook Pro. Most of the time the mac is as quiet as a mouse, but when playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it gets really loud.
    I've downloaded iStat Pro so that I can monitor the Fan RPM, and was wondering what sort of levels I should be worried about? Is it normal when the fan rpm gets up high for there to be a lot of noise?
    Many thanks!

    I do not see a temperature reading for the CPU.  That is usually the component that will generate the most heat.  This is from my MBP:
