i use im my local network web start for installation the client, but i want installation olso runtime java with web start. now i want publish on my server the runtime of java:

What's so good in new JWS?

We're currently running our application with JWS 1.0.1.
It's an "online only" app that should not be run in offline mode.
Looking around on the JWS sites and release notes didn't
show me any reason to change the version we're working with.
Can anyone give me a good reason for a change or at least
any advantages of the new version?

Which version do you mean as "new"? since 1.0.1 we've had JWS 1.2 (with 1.4.1_xx) and now JWS 1.4.2 (with 1.4.2). Your first step should be to ensure your application is compatible with the java runtime version that accompanies the particular web start version.
Swing in general and application start-up 1.4.2 feels significantly faster. On the web start front 1.4.2 add NTLM authentication which should allow clients with Microsoft proxy to finally use web start.
Most important change is better compatibility with Windows XP, under XP normal users can't write to any location except their user profile directory - this is a problem as web start 1.0 installs it's cache into "c:\program files".. from JWS 1.2 (and 1.4.2 takes this further) the cache has been safely moved to the profile directories to avoid these privilege problems.
However 1.4.2 is also broken in several key areas, the locale is frozen as en_US for all users, everywhere. The JWS integration dialog that prompts for shortcuts during startup can freeze apps that start with modal dialogs (at the very least it annoyingly gets in the way by forcing itself as the topmost dialog - fixed in 1.4.2_01). Finally the runtime autodownload install process appears to be broken in 1.4.2 - still awaiting a bugparade number here so we're not holding our breath. If all your users are from the US, don't need to update/install runtimes and don't mind annoying pop-ups, you can go ahead and try to upgrade to 1.4.2.. but I'd suggest JWS 1.2 is the safer bet.

AutoDownload Problems

Hello Everyone.
I realize that there are a huge number of topics about the autodownloading of JREs, but I haven't seen one recently that describes the problems I've been encountering.
We've been using WebStart without any (major) problems for over a year now. Our applications are using the 1.3.1 JRE. In our .jnlp file, we simply wrote:
<j2se version="1.3"/>
This had worked for a year without a problem. If required, the runtime would be downloaded from java.sun.com. Within the past few weeks, we've had nothing but problems downloading JREs through webstart.
We've tried the following tags in our .jnlp files:
<j2se version="1.3"/>
<j2se version="1.3" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>
<j2se version="1.3.1" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>
<j2se version="1.4"/>
<j2se version="1.4" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>
<j2se version="1.4.2" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>
And always receive one of the following errors:
a) Unable to load resource: (http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se, 1.4.2)
b) Unable to load resource: http://java.sun.com/webapps/jawsautodl/AutoDL/j2se/javaws-1_0_1-j2re-1_4_2-inst-windows-i586.jar
There does not appear to be any pattern to which error we receive.
(NOTE: in a) and b) above, you can replace 1.4.2 with whichever JRE version we're currently trying to get)
We've tried this with 3 different versions of WebStart, to no avail.
We have a number of customers that this will affect very soon, so I'd appreciate any help/suggestions/ideas you might have.

PS. As another solution, I would consider hosting the javaws autodownload jar file on one of our servers, so we could point our customers to our 'autodownload' site. Anyone else doing this?

Well the latter, installing as an extension into the web start cache dir (the location of which differs) is how web start is designed to work.. It's only designed to offer a runtime for compatibility witha a particular JNLP request not a full blown local machine JVM which most people will be familiar with.
Having said that one of the installers in my webstart services pack is designed to attempt to download and execute a full blown jre.exe runtime installer.. its the one I call experimental - because its a technique fraught with problems.. but 80% of the time I'd say it will work, if the user decides to be awkward and change directory names or hits cancel at the wrong time it'll break and new runtimes always contain nasty surprises.
I'm hoping Java Update will reduce our need on webstart to keep producing jvm updates.. but I'm still waiting for my box to recognize it needs to update 1.4.1_01 to 1.4.1_02, been several days since it's release and still no sign of life from the update process.

Ideas needed for easy java runtime roll-outs

On the cusp of Sun's newfound enthusiasm for Java everywhere I felt I had to post a few questions on the state of the runtime installers. We've been having awful problems getting the runtime installed on clients; Windows XP boxes are a particular problem as users have a very restricted set of privileges and write access - meaning that the runtime installation has to be run by someone with Administrator rights. This just isn't practical when we're trying to roll out a Java Web Start solution enterprise-wide.
In an ideal world I suppose the runtime would be delivered pre-installed and big pat on back for getting Dell & HP to agree to this; but even with their support they'res still going to be a lot of Java unfriendly PC's out there.. Anybody got any clever ideas on routes around these problems.. I've tried to document some of our frustrations in the first part of this document

I've also run across "Provide .MSI file for Java, to deploy Java using active directory" (http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4854974.html). It appears Microsoft Installer might be the answer to both enterprise installation and the admin rights installation bugbear which really prevents us from offering users an easy install path. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has found any ways around these problems, are their any ms admins out their who've already repackaged the installers as msi packages and got the above deployments to work? Comments? Anyone?
..Finnaly (and can't resist a winge here) I find Sun's renewed interest in Java on the Desktop all very laudable; but the runtime support for Java Web Start and the Window ActiveX AutoDownloader are completely out-of-step. Web Start users still can't access
1.4.1_01, 1.4.1_02 or 1.4.1_03 runtimes from Sun's servers (as per the jnlp specs) (http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4827788.html) and support for other versions is very limited and always painfully slow coming online (http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4836169.html) (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=38&thread=366655).
I understand these are special installers and require extra development alongside the better known .exe versions (which have they're own chequered history with XP & InstallShield issues). But come-on Sun, a little more forethought and support - please..

Does your msi just unpack the files or will it attempt to make the registry changes / os bindings that java plugin & java web start need?
The way around the privs issues with msi's needs some security policy settings being made - I'm assuming these can be done by the domain administrator for all its users - but I'm out of my depth here; this is only a solution for organisations with enforced polices ~ but very important nevertheless.
Sun seem to have attempted this in the past, but they're seems to have been a regression since; the following bug report suggests some manual registry settings that might effect the required changes.

But I couldn't get these to work with the (purloined) 1.4.2beta msi, nor the java update beta test (v5.5.5). What I'd really like to know is how to setup a group policy to achieve the same with an msi package that really works.. and have the details about how to setup an msi deployment domain-wide.. the whitepaper suggests both are possible with windows installer.

Runtime error in starting Lightroom

I receive the following message when I try to start Lightroom:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:...Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.2\lightroom.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Lightroom ran well for several days and then failed to open with the above message.
I have tried everything I know to do (uninstalled and reinstalled the application, restored the computer to a restore point before Lightroom was originally installed, etc.) and do not know were to go from here. Suggestions would be appreciated.
I am using Windows XP sp2 and have 4 GB of ram and 250 GB of hard disk space.

Error in installing Adobe AIR runtime (Windows)

I've been trying to install TeeBoard to be used with OBS, however, AIR will not install no matter what i do. I've followed all the help on the support page and none of it worked. It keeps saying i need administrator access even though i'm running it as an administrator. Additionally, every time i double click a .air extension to try and install the application it wont open up with the windows installer.

I keep getting a pop up window labled Software Update saying, "To open 'MLBNexDefAutobahn,' you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?" I click on "Not Now" and it pops open again a second later. It is not going away! Is this a Java virus? I just installed Maverick Wednesday and got a message yesterday on google that "Google would like to take over this computer"??? Please help.

This is not a virus, or any other kind of malware. Some third-party software that you have installed is repeatedly trying to open a Java process called MLBNexDefAutobahn. What that software might be, I don't know. What software do you have that this name might fit with?

How can you determine at runtime which libraries are attached?

I am wondering if there is a way to determine which libraries are currently attached to a form at runtime. My application is in forms 10g.
I am hoping to get the full path so that it is possible to show this in an information type display. I am ideally looking for a solution that works on both Unix and Windows so that it can be used in development and production

I am curious, why you want to know which library is attached and the full path??? You cannot change it at runtime!!
I don't think that's possible at runtime by using Generic Forms built-ins, But as always with Oracle, you can have several solutions.
One solution is to initialize global variables/parameters in PRE-FORM and later you can read them and see the values and do whatever you want accordingly.
When using Global variables, you can test for their DEFAULT_VALUE to check whether the variable exists or not, this will prevent getting an error if the variable hasn't been initialized yet.

I want to load all the classes in a directory that implement a specific Interface, at runtime. Of course i can load all the classes if i know the String name.

How do i get all the files in that directory and find the classes implementing that interfaces ?

You can either load all the classes and then test if they are assignable from IRule.class (isAssignableFrom())
(you could use a custom classloader if you wanted these classes to be garbage collected)
or
Open the class files and scan them to see if they contain
"myPackage/IRule"
(maybe you would have to parse the .class file, but just scanning it might be good enough)

Error in creating a process using runtime class - please help

As much as I understand from the readings in the forums, Runtime.exec can only run commands that are in files, not native commands.

I am getting the above error when trying to install the 1.3 JRE (installed with the 1.3 plug in which I need). As part of my development I have been installing and uninstalling the JRE multiple times. Then, I got the above error when trying to install it, and now it appears to be installed but I cannot uninstall it. When I try to uninstall it, it just remains, and when I try to install it again I get the above error. I have tried cleaning up all javasoft registry entries, but it doesnt seem to have helped. Can anyone help me either completely uninstall the JRE so I can do a clean install or help me get rid of the error above when I install. Is there some registry entries I should be looking at? Anything else? this is quite urgent as I need to test my applet with the plugin installed and not installed - and I currently cant uninstall it. Any ideas?

I am getting this same error message when trying to upgrade from 1.3.1_03 to 1.3.1_19.
I have multiple versions of jre's and jdks on my machine.
Anyone else seen this problem or know how to resolve it.

Error while deploying web role - Invalid application runtime - a runtime component is missing:/base/x64/IISConfigurator.exe

I have Azure SDK 2.5 installed and when I try and publish my web role from VS 2013, it fails. When I manually upload the package and config through the Azure Portal I get the error: "Invalid application runtime - a runtime component
is missing:/base/x64/IISConfigurator.exe".
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the Azure SDK with no change in the error.
Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this?

I uninstalled the SDK, and tried to create a new cloud servce using the WCF service project template. The new project still gives me the same error:

But this file - /PortalContentBIReportsjspx_3715283e_0134_1000_8001_ac1801a53f3d.pxml exists in my local machine from where i am deploying. I have done the following things.
1) there are no spaces between my project names
2) I have also removed all unused producers from the mds folder in jdev.
I feel that the MDS folder is not getting included while deploying , not sure.
I am deploying the webcenter to a standalone WLS

I was able to resolve it, actually there was a datasource mds-owsm which was being referred in my webcenter application and it was not targeted to the managed server where I was deploying the app, So once I added the target to include this managed server, the portlet was getting identified and getting consumed in my application.
Quick question here I need to integrated BI presentation service in my webcenter, what will be the best way to do it and go about it?I had found an artcile in oracle docs but it is not working for me.Please suggest some better ways of doing this integration.
