Runtime error at start up

the illustrator Cs2 it wont open up, it give me this Run time error
Program : illustrator CS2 /Support files/ Contents/Windows/illustrator.exe.
This is window vista home. Tryed to reinstail program still have the same problem.

As Wade said, try and trash the prefs first (C:\Users\Byron\AppData\Roaming\Adobe). If that doesn't help, check your system event viewer (Start Menu --> Programs --> Management) and find out, what component actrually throws an error. It's quite possible that there is some DLL missing or of the wrong version. Also make sure to run AI with administrative priviliges or at least turn off UAC. CS2 was long before Vista, so it will not be able to handle some of its intricacies correctly. You may also wish to run the program in compatibility mode. Might make things better.

I receive the following message when I try to start Lightroom:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Lightroom ran well for several days and then failed to open with the above message.
I have tried everything I know to do (uninstalled and reinstalled the application, restored the computer to a restore point before Lightroom was originally installed, etc.) and do not know were to go from here. Suggestions would be appreciated.
I am using Windows XP sp2 and have 4 GB of ram and 250 GB of hard disk space.

  • Runtime Error when starting Lightroom

I'm currently on day 12 or so of my trial with Lightroom. I've spent quite a few hours getting to know LR by retouching and cataloging over 8 years of photos. So far, aside from a few in-program bugs that I found a way to work around, I've been super-happy with it (especially the powerful keywording/metatagging system: amazing!) and have been really seriously coughing up the huge wad of $$ when the trial's done. But....
For no reason, LR started giving me a Runtime Error when I tried to start it. Something along the lines of "This application requested Runtime to terminate it unusually."
So off to Google I went, where I knew I could probably search that error and fix it like I've done with countless other programs. Unfortunately nothing is working.
    Here are the facts:
--I'm running a fully patched Vista machine.
--LR worked fine earlier this morning. I had 1.4 and didn't perform any upgrades or maintenance to it (that I know of) when it just gave me the error out of the blue today when I tried to start it.
--I tried holding CTRL when I start it, and it still gives the error.
--I tried deleting a .lock file (which did exist) but it still wouldn't start.
--I tried running the "repair" tool in the install...no good.
--I uninstalled LR, d/led it again, and re-installed it. IT WORKED!....one time. I was able to run it, checked to make sure my cataloging was still intact (it was - phew!) and even deleted a folder I didn't want in it. Then I closed it. I tried re-opening it a few hours later and I got the SAME ERROR!
I sure hope someone can help because I'm at my wit's end.

This is disgusting. I've pounded away for over 4 hours and I finally found a workaround. Here's the original post that had my answer:

The short of the story: if I put lightroom.exe into Windows XP compatibility mode" it will work. (To do that, for anyone else who comes across this, you just right-click your lightroom icon, click PROPERTIES, and go to the Compatibility tab and check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)")
I've loaded it up half a dozen times and it's still working perfectly as far as I can tell. Hopefully it won't hurt anything keeping it in that mode.
I'm glad this happened early enough into my trial that I'll have ample opportunity to see if it repeats itself. I'm not keen on sinking $300 into software that will give me ulcers as I troubleshoot problems like this.

  • C   Runtime error when starting Encore

I get the following error when starting Encore and it automatically closes:
    C++ Runtime Error
    Program C:\Pr...
Application has requested runtime to terminate...

I have the same problem and I saw that Troubleshoot C++ guide on the Adobe site too.
(I'm having the problem with Encore CS5.1 on a Windows 8.1 machine)
But, when I go to change the "preferences file" as directed -  I can't tell which file is the preferences file.
    can anyone help?
To re-create the product preferences file:
    Quit the Adobe application.
Rename the preferences file (for example, to [PrefFilename].old). Preferences files are often found in the \Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Adobe\[Product]\ folder.

  • Runtime error when starting itunes

Lately when I've tried to start Itunes it launches, asks for my password, then give a message something like : Runtime Microsoft C++ error: This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
    Any ideas?

For what it's worth, I had the same problem that seemed to appear after I installed the Beta of Safari for PC, which also installed the Apple Updater. I uninstalled Safari - still had the runtime error. I uninstalled the Apple updater - the runtime problem went away and iTunes opened as normal. When iTunes opened after I uninstalled the updater, the message from iTunes appeared asking to update to 7.3. Perhaps there is a conflict between the updater and the one built into iTunes.

  • R6025 Runtime Error when starting Photoshop Elements Organizer 12

I installed Photoshop Elements 12 a couple of weeks ago.  When I run the Photo Editor, everything is fine.  But when I try to run the Organizer, I get the Microsoft Visuall C++ Runtime Library dialog that specifies a Runtime Error! for Program: C:\Program Files (x86)... with error code R6025 - pure virtual function call.
My PC is a 64bit Windows 7 Machine with SP1.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I tried the first solution listed and that did not help.  Part of the 2nd solution was to create a new user on the PC and uninstall/reinstall the software using the new user account.  I did this and I no longer get the R6025 error.  Now I get a R6034 error when I open the Organizer.
Any ideas on the R6034 error?

Same here it was working fine, then I installed a few things, video card drivers, other applications, changed some system settings etc etc.. and then bang... Premiere would just crash when rendering the preview...
I started removing all that I could remember having installed since Premiere and.. well ... Premiere OR Microsoft famous MSVC runtime did not like the fact that I had changed my Environment Variables TEMP and TMP... So I reverted back to the values that I had when I installed Premiere and voila... everything is now working fine.
Have you changed thos environement variables by chance ?
    Good luck.

The problem still exists, but Adobe won't give us support for Adobe Reader, cause it's a Freeware software, thank's a lot Adobe!
We just found one solution to run it in our enviroment, but it's not the best i think.
Turn on XP-Mode SP2 and Adobe Reader will  run. Tested under 2008 R2 Domain with Windows 7 Clients.
We set the value for each user with Preferences through GPO.
Perhaps then the problem is solved in your enviroment.

  • Workaround for Runtime Error

    Hi everybody,
I've this annoying runtime error when starting iTunes, too. I can start iTunes without this annoying message, when deactivating the network connection. After iTunes successfully booted, you can activated the network connection again and use iTunes as usual…
I tried to update to 7.3 (currently I’m using 7.2) but when using the apple updater, it stops installation and sys a newer version is already installed. Anyway, reading all the posts about the different sort mechanism, I don’t want to update at all. But how to get rid of this runtime error message?
Any ideas about these to issues?

    Hi!
Reinstalling iTunes (version 7.2, using the repair option of the setup) didn't help in my case. As I wrote before, updating to 7.3 didn't work, too.
I don't like the idea of uninstalling iTunes completely.

  • TS1717 While installing an the latest update to iTunes, my Windows program sent me a runtime error (R6034).  I can no longer open iTunes. Advice?

While installing the latest updates to iTunes, the istallation stopped and Windows sent me a Runtime error (R6034) and suggests that I contact the applications support team.  A second message appears to tell me that I should reinstall iTunes. Error 7  (Windows error1114)  Any suggestions?

I had the identical problem with Runtime Error R6034s starting this week (on 1/22/2014) when the latest iTunes update installed.  Tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes several times, but that didn't work.  Someone suggested deleting the update.  I found the "Apple Application Support" (93.2MB) update installed on 1/22, deleted it, reinstalled iTunes, and now iTunes seems to work OK.  I don't get the repeated Runtime Error R6034 and Error 7 message, have been able to access the store, and play my saved music OK.  My only concern is that the update will reappear and cause a repeat problem.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro crashes at start up: Runtime Error-please help

I have Adobe CS4 installed on my Windows 7 PC. In addition, I have Adobe Reader XI and InDesign 6 installed. If I remember correctly, after I installed Adobe Reader XI, I uninstalled the version of the Reader which came with CS4.
So here’s my problem: When I try to download a PDF that has been sent to me in an email or open one that already exists on my computer, this happens:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C…
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
When I click OK, I get this:
Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has stopped working.
If I try to Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro from my start menu, the same thing happens.
This makes no sense to me because
I don’t have the knowledge to figure this out. I have no idea what Runtime is.
Prior to a computer meltdown a couple of months ago and a complete reinstallation of everything, these very same programs all worked just fine.
I don’t understand why, when I try to open an emailed PDF, they don’t automatically open in Adobe Reader XI rather than Adobe Acrobat. Isn’t the general idea that people be able to open and view sent PDFs which they have been sent, which is what the Reader is for, and not usually edit them, which is what Adobe Acrobat is for?
If, instead of trying to open the emailed PDFs, I save them to my computer, I can launch Adobe Reader XI and open them from within that program without any problem. That’s OK if I just need to view the PDF, but I need to be able to edit PDFs too, so I must get Adobe Acrobat 9.0 to work.
Would reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro help? Is there a way to reinstall that program only from the installation disks or would have to reinstall CS4 entirely?
I cannot open Adobe Acrobat 9.0 at all, so any solutions which must be done with the program open are not possible.
I would really appreciate some help.

    SOLVED!
Resetting Internet Explorer didn't work, Reinstalling Acrobat 9.0 Pro didn't work, but changing a registry key did.
Here's where I found the solution:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error opening PDF files - Microsoft Community
Here is the relevant post, but before you try it, read my note below:
    Hi,
This is known issue with Acrobat for several versions now, Adobe's current fix is just to update their software: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404597.html
The problem is with the application data being misdirected.
"The affected user has a redirected Application Data folder and as a result the network path containing the Application Data uses a UNC path that begins with \\. This UNC path causes Acrobat 9.0 or Adobe Reader 9.0 to incorrectly parse the Application Data path and give the error message."
A potential Solution would be to go into the registry. Left Click type "regedit" and right click and run the program with "run as administrator". Go to Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders and make sure see where "AppData" is pointing. If it is pointing to "%UserProfile%/Application Data" change it to point to "%UserProfile%/AppData/Roaming".
BUT, be careful about one thing: This poster seems to have accidentally used forward slashes when he should have use back slashes. Look at the very last line of his post where he advises "If it is pointing to "%UserProfile%/Application Data" change it to point to "%UserProfile%/AppData/Roaming". You'll find, or at least I did, that this key has a back slash, not a forward slash, so changing what I found: "%UserProfile%\Application Data" to "%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming" worked and now Acrobat 9.0 works fine.

Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
