RV016 firmware update causes problem.

After updating firmware to 3.0.0.19 on our RV016 router the log file is showing an error about every 70 seconds.
Event type: Authentication Failure
Message: 2010/02/24 17:20:34 Bad login attempt for user: (null)
It doesn't seem to have any affect on the system but I would like to know what is causing it.
Thank you.

Hummm ... I do not see anything in the release notes.  Will be interesting to hear what others mention.
Do you have two consoles open from separate machines, or some monitoring open?  Every 70 seconds sounds like there is a process running in a browser or machine ... if it was occasional, I might suspect someone trying to get to the admin pages without logging in first.
Maybe a scan for unsecured web pages across the network.
If no one on this community helps, and you feel it needed, I might suggest a quick call to our support.

  • Firmware update caused problems with HBD-N790W

Latest firmware update caused my DVD Blu Ray Home Theater to lose the ability to find internet video content.  The unit shows that the 12/19 update was successful.  I can access the internet and get web browser content--so there isn't anything wrong with my wireless web connection.  My unit shows the connection to the internet is working.  I made a YouTube video about it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nqYNNVPcBA&list=UUNQaJbjyKQwFlZXY6832mIA   The set-up feature does not work and I lost my video channels (Netflix, Amazon).  I don't really understand why my connection to the internet works, my wireless works...everything works except getting updated media channels.  I have tried plugging and unplugging cable, modem, wireless, unit,  for ten minutes many times.  I reconnect the unit to the web...get buttons that say that internet content can be updated...press the button...then the Sony logo and it stops there.

Hi, i work for a Service center for  walmart and bestbuy and  i have been getting this model in for  service for awile now,    after  a firmware update   the systems have reported to work good till there turned off the first time and then they dont book up all the way,   you will get a   Sony logo at top left screen and the  Blue   Bluray Logo in the center of the tv screen    and thats it,  no menu functions     the  controls on the player it self   flash on and off slowly   you can turn the system on and off with the remote but thats it,    this looks like a failed firmware update  but there seems to be no way to reflash these even with the firmware you can get from the sony site  you have to burn a CDR disk  but  becuse there is no menu you cant get that far,   i have 19  of these units stacked up  5 have been replaced with  other brands to make customers happy,  the rest on still in wait for a fix,    its looking like replacement of main board  will be  the next step in this night mare.     if  sony tech wants to shine some lite on this now i would be very  gratefull.    Thanks    Chris R.

  • Firmware update caused problems with G4 AGP

    Greetings all,
I have a great G4 Sawtooth 400MHz which I intended to upgrage by installing an OWC 1.2GHz processor using the 7455 chip which I was informed did not necessitate a firmware update to 4.2.8. After installing it, the machine would turn on but would not boot. OWC tech confirmed that I did indeed need to update firmware to 4.2.8 and that this had to be done while running under OS 9.2 which resides on one volume of my partitioned hard drive while OS 10.4.10 is on another volume. I reinstalled the 400MHz processor, changed the startup disk to OS 9.2 and carefully following Apple's proceedure successfully upgraded the firmware which now reads: $0004.28f1. All this went off without a hitch of any kind. OS X was then selected as the start up disk but the machine will only start up in 9.2.2 no matter what I do.
Attempts to boot from the OS X Install DVD holding down C key simply results in a blinking "?" mark indicating that OS X is not deemed to be a useable OS. This is confirmed by opening the DVD on the desk top after booting into OS 9.2 and choosing "install OS X". A message then appears : "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. Please consult the documentation for the list of supported computers."
Other anomalies are: Only an instant of start up chime occurs. Of the 312MB installed only 64MB is recognized. System profiler indicates PC100-322S is recognized but the PC100-222S is "Not compatible". Sometimes the startup device is shown to be the volume containing OS X but the top disk shown on the Desktop proves to be the OS 9.2 volume. Only a quick LED wink of the caps lock key occurs when attempting to reset PRAM, no audible chimes. Starting with option key down produces an image of the two volumes and arrows but does not permit selection and will not proceed from there. Attempting to boot from a firewire drive with several bootable OS X volumes does nothing more. Booting from a Norton Systemworks 2.0 CD to check the OS 9.2 volume for errors changed nothing.
I have removed the battery for two hours before reinstalling with no effect. The battery is at full voltage of 3.6V. I have reset the S1 switch (PMU I think?) several times. I have started in open firmware to reset-nvram, set-defaults, reset-all. Nothing, absolutely nothing I have done changes a thing.
The machine is usless to me running only on OS 9 so I would be grateful for any suggestions or information as to how I could install an earlier version of firmware which may again run OS X as it has for many years. Although I think the problem is that it now identifies itself as a very early processor type which is not compatible with either the ram installed or OS X but I don't know how to tell the thing diffrent!
    Thanks

    Thanks Dave,
You are a genius. I can't tell you how much I appreciate being benifit of your knowledge and willingness to share it with others. A thousand times over, thank you!! I burned the little utility to a CD on another machine/setup, ran the little sucker and restarted in OS X like a hoot!!! About 8 minutes later I had the processor upgrade installed and see quite an improvment. Again, thanks and kudos be upon you,

  • Latest SMC Firmware update causing problems?

    Hello,
recently, I've attempted to install the update: MacBook Pro SMC Firmware V 1.7 and had issues booting up my system afterwards. I thought I ran my RAM down to its skivvies and it was rebelling, but it seems to work fine after repairing the disk drive using Disk Utility, because the first time it happened my Mac wouldn't open things as fast as it usually did, taking about 10-15 minutes to get to the login screen, and then some to get back into the desktop. After shutting it down and rebooting it wouldn't get past the Apple loading screen after the tone. Even with repairing the drive after installing the update, it wouldn't load past the tone and the Apple loading screen, so I restored the system from an external hard drive. This seemed to do the trick and allows me to do everything I used to do prior these problems, and the second time I tried to update the SMC V 1.7 it caused the same problem.
I wondered if anyone else was having these problems with their Macs in regards to the SMC, and maybe it isn't just the SMC but other parts of the MacBook that have problems. Specifically, the Mac I'm using is the 2011 MacBook Pro6,2 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 with Snow Leopard version 10.6.8. The SMC that I have currently is the 1.58f16 .
Then again perhaps my disk drive and other components are stating their wish to retire. I've used it pretty hard over the past year.
    Thanks for reading,
    Dracien

  • Firmware update causes mac book pro to not respond

Hi all. I was hoping someone could help me out please? I just ran the latest firmware update for my 2011 mac book pro and after it installed it now won't start up, only getting to the gray screen before freezing there.
I've tried all the on line solutions I can find on Apple's site, but no luck. Can anyone please tell me how I can fix this??
    Thanks heaps.

    See gray screen
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
Hold the shift key down upon boot, this will perform checks and disable any third party kext files installed into OSX and called a Safe Boot.
(Kext files can also be installed by software itself and if you have it auto-launcing at log-in that could cause a freeze.)
Once in, copy your personal data off the machine to a external storage drive (in addition to TimeMachine if your using it) and disconnect.
Go around and update all your third party software, or remove some that don't have a update and do have kext files in the System/Library/Extensions folder (use the devleopers uninstaller preferred)
If that fails then hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (or command r boot into 10.7 recovery) and simply reinstall OS X, this will replace OS X only with a fresh copy, then software update.
If that fails, then you likely have a failed firmware install, you can install it manually
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT2213
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
If that fails, you'll have to take your machine in for service and get the logicboard replaced.
If OS X boots, but you can't log in or have a problem after logging in, it's likely a third party program or user account issue, create another user account and test again when your problem occurs. If you can't log in, there is a trick to create a new admin account at the command s boot.

  • 4.7.5.1.83.3.37 (Type B) firmware update causing p...

It seems as though everything is pointing at me to get a new router and ditch the BT home Hub 2.0
I've had another problem crop up since I was last here.
I have followed the instructions that were given to me in my previous thread and ensured that nobody touches the router while we try to get our connection taken off the "fixed rate" thing.
Things were going good and I had over 2 full days of connection time.  But shortly after the 2nd day I happened to notice the upgrade light on the router was light up.  After it went out I logged into the router out of curiousity and confirmed that it had updated right then with a new firmware:
    Current firmware
    4.7.5.1.83.3.37 (Type B)
    Last updated
    03/07/12
Later on I then noticed that my laptop was no longer connected and when selecting the option to connect to my wireless network I see that the wireless names had changed to "BTWiFi-with-FON" and "BTWifi".  My main wireless connection was unchanged.
Since this upgrade I have found that my connection wo'nt go a day without ending up restarting.  Also, my connection to my wireless seems to disconnect me if I sit idle for too long (this is a guess as I am not entirely sure)
Has anybody else had this problem or received this firmware update?
I try to make sure that my internet is not restarted only to have BT push out an update that ensures that it keeps happening...UGH

BT are updatig the hub's firmware so that the ssids for BTFON and BTOpenzone-H are changed to the new brand name (BTWifi). You will now see BTWifi-with-FON and BTWifi. Your personal wifi, eg BTHub3-XXXX or BTHomeHub2-XXXX will stay the same.
With your line being 2.9km long the firmware upgrade automatically restarts the router, which could have caused a slight change in noise margin but after 3+days should sort it self out.
You can check your status on BTWifi (BTFon) by visiting https://www.bt.com/wifi/secure/index.do
You can also opt back in and then back out again which will hopefully get ride of BTWifi (might take a few days for changes to apply)
    cheers,
    James

  • Aluminum keyboard firmware updater caused my Mac not to boot.

After installing the recent (4/8/08) keyboard firmware update, my iMac G5 refused to boot past the grey apple screen, too. Got the spinning paddle, but multiple hard shutdowns and restarts failed to get it past that point.
I ended up booting the Leopard Install DVD and tried to reboot into my backup, a Superduper clone of the drive from the previous night. Wouldn't do it -- got the same result.
Used Disk Utility (on the Leopard DVD) to repair the disk/permissions. The only significant repair was this:
permissions differ on "private/var/log/secure.log," should be -rw-------, they are -rw-r-----.
Now, I don't know what that means, but maybe it's relevant.
I rebooted -- and still was unable to get past the grey screen. I tried repairing permissions a second time (and nothing unusual came up) and it still failed to fix the startup problem. I also used the repair disk function (between permissions repairs) and that had no effect, either.
Ultimately, I was forced to do an archive and install of Leopard, which then allowed me to boot successfully.
Really disappointing -- this is the kind of thing I expect Windows users to have to deal with, not us.

I have MacMini with Wired Aluminum Keyboard. I have all the current Firmware and Software updates. The computer will not startup with the install disc using the "C" key nor will it start up with my second attached hard drive using the "Option" key. Now if I use my old Black Apple Keyboard both of these functions work beautifully.
The real problem is the lack of knowledge about this on the part of Applecare and the Geniuses at the Apple Store. They don't even know about these discussions on the Apple Site nor any other internet site that is discussing or has discussed this issue.
I wasted 2 hours with Applecare. They had me do the usual things such as resetting the Pram, disconnecting all cables and resetting the startup manager. You name it they just follow the book and waste your time and theirs.
Their final conclusion was that my keyboard was defective so they made an appointment for me to bring it into the Apple Store. The Genius in the Apple Store hooks my keyboard up to another computer. I don't remember which model it was but I know it was not a Mac Mini. Anyhow he comes back and tells me my keyboard is fine. He says the RAM in my Mini has gone bad. So I replace the RAM. Still have the same problem.
Well unless someone in this discussion group can tell me what the REAL problem is, I will keep my old Black Keyboard close by.

  • Pages update causes problems?

Since April's update I have had problems with Pages. Templates keep opening with the 'cannot find font' message even though the font is activated. Since I use Font Explorer to manage fonts I tried moving the fonts into the system folder/font folder. Pages still could not find them. After deleting Pages and Keynote and reinstalling them from my CD all is happy again.
My impression is that the update caused the problems. Anybody else experiencing this?
    Kurt

    Hullo Kurt:
Glad you got it sorted. Didn't think it would help you much without further insight - but I had no trouble with the update either. One of those things you had to persevere with on the system you know to fix.
I recall that when I first installed OsX, there was a font collection called "Classic." It was not of fonts the designers call "classic", so I assume it was carried over from Os9, even though I hadn't installed that.
You can collate whatever collections you want from Pages, as you know: just so long as they go into the User or System Library fonts. I don't know how it is with Font Explorer, but with Font Book I find the safest way of resolving duplicates so they don't keep reappearing is to "resolve duplicates" first for any black-dotted fonts, then scan for the greyed out versions where they appear. These can be safely "removed" via Font Book.
This way Pages can choose which copy of a font it doesn't need.
BTW I've just updated to OsX 10.4.7. Can't put it on my profile yet. But it reproduces type throughout the system, and especially in Pages, even more snappily than before, and is said to improve Font Book's handling - as well as some PDF problems.
Be interesting to see whether those are the ones that members have had trouble with. MacFixit suggests that this system update can cause problems with various duplicate files, but I started with a clean computer, left it alone for the update, and did a Safe Boot to see what that cleaned out before I bothered with all that, and then I found no need for it. Routine maintenance did turn up quite a few permissions to be repaired though.
OTOH, if the system details on your profile are right, you might do better to look for a combo update on Mac Downloads to be sure you get it all stitched.
    Cheers.
Mac OsX 10.4.7, never mind what it says under here.

  • HT3957 Firmware update causes nightmare

I installed this firmware update to try and get my camera working again but after installing not only does my camera still not work but I no longer have bluetooth. In System Profile, Bluetooth is Not Available. Any ideas? HELP!!!

    Hi Wangwei,
Your sollution works, however, before contacting you on the Lenovo support forum, I already tried to shut down the Lenovo weather app because I thought this was blocking my calender. So I moved the weather application from my desktop to the garbadge (shame on me, I know), but now I can't see the weather, location and hour on my "Love Corner" desktop anymore although the app Lenovo weather is active as the process "com.lenovo.lewea is running and the service is up. In case there would be a simple solution to restore this (reselecting the theme doesn't work), I would really appreciate if sombody could tell me and otherwise I just try to set the factory settings after backing up my data.
I don't know if it really necessary, but to help out some people who are not that aware of mobile phone settings, it might be usefull to give a more detailled problem solving overview as the there are a couple of weather apps running and to find "all apps" and how to close them and empty the data, it might be difficult for some people who just by the phone because they want a reliable and good looking cell phone with two sim cards and expandable memory options.
I'm happy that my calender is up and running without any loss of data and if allowed, I will reply on the same problem in other forums with a link to your answer or this topic.
Thanks a lot Wangwei for your help and sorry for my late replies.

  • Homehub Firmware update causes wireless connection...

Firstly I know this is technically a double post but i hadn't realised i had posted in a solved topic.. So from previous posting
I now cannot get wireless connection on a HTC Legend running android 2.2  everything has been working fine for the last 8-9months then after the new firmware that was applied to my homehub on 7/5/11 it all stopped working on the 8th. Before posting i had been into the hub manager and cleared the device list, Changed from WPA to WEP to Nothing and back, tried changing channels etc.
I have also cleared the connection from the HTC legend to no effect. This seems rather too coincidental that the firmware update including "Improvements for smartphones" and it now longer works.  I have tested the legend on other wifi networks and all works well so definately not a phone issue. Interestingly my Desire HD still connects ok ot the homehub but runs 2.2.1 not 2.2.
I would like to roll back the firmware to the previous version on the homehub but cannot find anywhere to get the binaries. Can anyone point me to the right location. Or do i have to do a full hardware reset to restore factory firmware. I'm sure that there have likely been updates that i may actually need?
    Cheers

  • EFI Firmware Update causes RSS? Please help!

    Hello,
My macbook has never had RSS (random shutdown syndrome) so installing the SMC update didn't fix anything (there was nothing to fix). A few days later the EFI firmware update came out. I installed that and everything seeemed to work fine until...my macbook shut down intermittenly. When I went to reboot it, it quickly flashed a folder with a question mark in it before starting up just like any other startup with the apple logo and everything. I belive the folder with the question mark means that it can't locate the hard drive...but it does..and works fine. Anyway, my macbook seems to now have RSS and shuts down after a period of about 20 minutes or more (running on battery power with out anything plugged in). I would then boot the computer back up to find the same folder with a question mark flash before booting up normally. I have yet to experience it shutting down with my display/keyboard/mouse/power plugged in. Please help!
    Sincerely,
    Jason
    Macbook 2GHz 2GB Ram 120Gig HD   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

For the question mark problem, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and make a selection.
For the shutdown problem, have you calibrated your battery recently?

Just before it shuts down, does it show low or high battery % charged?

  • IPod Firmware Update - Password Problem

    Hi.
I plugged in iPod last night and iTunes told me I had a Firmware Update waiting for me to download. So I tried to do this.
It then showed me a box with my name and asking me to input a password.
    Which password though?
I had just spent a couple of hours installing a borrowed eMac whilst my 6500/300 is away for repair and getting Mail to work with my ISP. Hence I was up to my neck in passwords and usernames which it turned out weren't usernames at all but something else. So you can probably imagine I had by then got passwords up to my back teeth. Now I'm getting asked for yet another one! Whoowee!!
I tried all the passwords I could think of but eventually the Apple Download site told me to go away and take it easy for a while, try again later.
Any clues as to what Password I am being asked for and how I can retrieve it, please?
    PM6500/300 (603e)   Mac OS 9.1.x

    Problem solved.
I tried again. Got it wrong again. However, when I had used up my third try, the website just gave me my password and said try again.
So I did. And it worked.
Updating the iPod is funny isn't it? A few seconds on the Mac then unplug it from the Mac and plug it into the wall. Then watch as iPod updates itself. Very odd way of going about things. Well, it amused me for a while anyway.
I wonder what the update does?
