RV180 Multifunction VPN Firewall

I am looking to connect to Azure. Is this router in devices family ASA, ASR, ISR, ABD, and which os version is the device using?
Windows Azure uses templates and I need to choose the correct template.
Thanks for your help.

Hi, this router does not use IOS and is not in any family that enterprise products are. If you need more specific about this product operating system, please open a ticket to the SBSC.

  • WRT54G - Is there anyway to add a separate VPN/Firewall device to complement this product

I have a WRT54G v.2 device and I hate to throw it out.  My dilemma is that I'm in need of a VPN/Firewall device as well.  So I would like to know if there is a device that I can purchase from Linksys that will provide the VPN/Firewall features as a complement to my existing WRT54G?  I'd appreciate any info someone might be able to provide.
    Regards.

    Hi,
you have options between the RV series of VPN routers and the BEFSX41 and the BEFVP41.however you will have to change your network a bit.Your main router will have to be either of the VPN routers. The DHCP of the wrt will have to be disabled and you will also need to change the ip of the wrt from 192.168.1.1 to 1962.168.1.2
The connection will be.modem to internet port of the VPN router and then from port 1 of the VPN router to port 1 on the wrt.Do not use the internet ports of the wrt.

  • Adding NetGear Prosafe 8-port Gigabit VPN Firewall to existing TimeCapsule Network

I need some help and direction with this one...
    What I currently have setup and what I am doing on a day to day is as follows;
Cox Cable Broadband > ISP Cable Model > Time Capsule >Airport Express v1 + Airport Express v2 (Both extending wireless). I have a Dell/Windows Server setup as a Media Server and also have it setup to accept  VPN connection as well. I remote into my network quite a bit as well as VPN into it quite a bit, I RDP into the Dell Server as well as an iMAC and MacBook Pro from time to time. I have PS3, Xbox360, Apple TV 1stG and 2ndG, 2011iMac, 2011MacBookPro, iPAD3 and various other wireless clients. I would really like to add as much security as I possibly can and thought adding a Hardware firewall would be a good step.
So I Purchased a NetGear ProSafe 8-port Gigabit VPN Firewall that I would install on my network and have everything behind that. The problem is I have no idea how to set it up for the best protection and performance. Only thing I found online is putting it behind my TC which would then leave my Wireless Clients outside the Firewall? I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but this time I'm just completely confused and not even sure if I need this or if it's completely useles. I do like the TimeCapsule also running 2 Airport Express (v1 & v2) to extend my wireless network, but I'm not sure if it's as secure as it could be.
If this was a good step buying a hardware firewall and from what I've read the model I bought (FVS318G) is pretty good, it's also solving a problem I have had with my network is needed Ethernet access. Time Capsule only has 3 ports so I figured this would also solve the lack of Ethernet ports as well.
I'm thinking I would go from Modem > NetGear(DHCP Enabled) > Time Capsule (Somehow turn DHCP/Router off) > all my network clients.
Can Anyone offer advice?? How I should configure this? Is it pointless? Return the Netgear Firewall? Buy a different hardware firewall???
*BTW* I have software security covered, just want to add hardware as well.
Any help/suggestions would be extremely helpful!
    Thank you!

I am not sure who made the suggestion for the vpn router to be behind the TC.. they do that sometimes for connection to vpn for downloading TV shows etc.. but your proposed network layout is correct.
I'm thinking I would go from Modem > NetGear(DHCP Enabled) > Time Capsule (Somehow turn DHCP/Router off) > all my network clients.
All correct.. The Netgear has to be the one and only router.. otherwise the VPN will not give you access to the rest of the network behind the NAT.
So easy peasy.. bridge the TC.. use the 5.6 utility if LIon.. you will need to download and install it..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    Lion v6 is a toy..
Go to manual setup, internet tab. Connection sharing.. off, bridge mode. update the TC.. voila you are done.
You should probably reboot the whole network. As the expresses will need to now get IP from the netgear not the TC. Tell us if you run into trouble, but everything should work, although it may require a reset and redo setup of the TC and express to get everything smooth again.
Next issue.. hardware and software firewalls.. sometimes produces the great wall of china.. very secure... oh so secure nothing gets in.. or out. I do not know the Netgear.. but I would start with whatever the lowest preset is for the firewall. And see if you have issues.
And of course then do the vpn setup.. which is a lot of fun.. (read strong sarcasm). But once you establish the tunnel should then give you access to the whole network.. you will not need to use RDP unless you need to actually take over a computer.
VPN firewall is the RIGHT WAY.. albeit it can be painful in the initial stages.

    Hello,
I am trying to get VPN connection from iPhone and iPad(3G). I have tested Linksys (Cisco) RV042 -router. But I was told by Cisco that RV042 does not support connection from iPhone...
So, I would like to ask which VPN/Firewall devices you have used succesfully with iPhone or iPad?

  • WRT54g with VPN Firewall

Would like to configure the VPN firewall with my existing system.  I have Verizon DSL which involves the DSL modem and the Firewall.  I have the IP addresses of each.  How would I determine an appropriate IP address for the firewall.  Should the device be physically connected between the DSL modem and the router?  Advice sought

The router has it's own firewall I would turn the firewall in the modem off or at very least put your computer in the DMZ of the modem so that it's firewall doesn't affect you. By default the router is already set to allow VPN connections using IPsec PPTP and L2TP Protocols. @ this point your router will still act as your firewall and you will be able to access VPN.

  • Netgear FVS336G VPN Firewall and BT HH3

I am trying to put the FVS336G into my home network directly after the HH3 and before a netgear 16port switch. The 200+ pages netgear ref manual is not paticularly helpful and from what I have read/+online I can only have one DHCP Server on the network, currently that is the HH3. Can I disable DHCP Server on the HH3 and I assume bridge it to the FVS336G? I would like the FVS336G to act as the DHCP Server in the network and use the HH3 just as an ADSL Modem. Or do I dispense with the HH3 and just get a cheap ADSL modem? I purchased the FVS336G so that I could secure my network down better and use the VPN/SSL tunnelling to allow me to access my NAS when I am away from home on business.
Any advice on putting a physical VPN Firewall router into the network would be appreciated.

PPPoA is used for ADSL connections, and PPPoE is used for Infinity connections.
If you used a separate ADSL modem to do the authentication, then authentication would not be needed on the Netgear, as the PPP session would already be up, however it would be a waste of money if you moved to Infinity.
Meanwhile, you can still use the Netgear as an additional wireless access point if you want.

  • Can't scan from Lexmark multifunction printer - firewall issue?

    Hi there!
I got a Lexmark printer/scanner combo which used to work fine on my arch install. However, its mobo died, so now I'm back at another install which refuses to scan. Scanning is done through the browser via a java applet residing on the printer's webserver. The applet does start (so it's not a java issue), but refuses to receive data from the scanner. Within the printer's web interface, it reads
If using Windows XP, the Windows XP personal firewall must be disabled before using Scan to PC profiles.
, so I'm assuming it might be a firewall issue. Lexmark's website provides the following advice:
The following two command lines will open the port 5353 for incoming and outgoing connections:
    iptables -I INPUT -p udp -m udp --sport 5353 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -I OUTPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 5353 -j ACCEPT
NOTE: These steps will work on most distributions configured with IPTABLES. There is no common command to make these rules persistent.
As I don't know anything about IP tables, I've simply copied these commands (as root, obviously). Still, I can't scan.
    So, my questions are:
    1. Has anybody else ever come across an issue like this?
    2. I don't even know for sure, whether this is a firewall issue - What iptabled magic would I need to temporarily disable the firewall to check?
    3. I tried checking my rules by "iptables -L". How can I tell "iptables -L" to specify the ports it is working on (as I did in the commands copied from lexmark's website)?
    Best wishes,
    Rufus

    Hi Bob
I believe so.  We put the install disc into this mac back when we bought it to set up the printer.  I'm assuming the scanning drivers were there as well since it's a multifunctional printer/scanner/fax wireless printer.
We've tried it both ways.  If I press the button scan on the printer, it reads can't find computer (or something like that).  When we go thru the HP icon on my computer screen and choose scan to computer, it does nothing.
We don't scan that often.  So the few times when we ran into this problem, we just did something else (like take a pic from our iPhone and email the pic...kinda stupid but did the trick.
But I want to have the function of the scanner available.  So that's why I'm here asking...thought others had this issue and had a solution.

  • VPN - FireWall : do i need to keep port open ?

    hi,
when i try to turn off AFP port in the firewall settings, i can't connect to the AFP server anymore even when i have a VPN session open.
i was under the impression that connections going trough the VPN would not need to have their ports open in the firewall.
is this normal or some setting are missing ?
    thanx for the help

Sounds like you are not connecting to the AFP server through the VPN. Easy way to test this is connect VPN, mount a volume, and kill the VPN connection - if you still can access the volume, you are not connecting through the VPN.
I'm assuming you are home or whatever and tell your VPN to connect, it does it's thing and shows you are connected, then you 'Connect to Server'. The AFP server (name or IP) you use needs to be a name or IP within the VPN.
If your VPN is directly to the server 'myserver.com' which is also is your AFP server, you need to 'Connect' to the private net ip of your server that is in the same subnet you VPN server is assigning connections to.

  • Help with cisco 837 VPN firewall configuration

    Hi guys,
I attempted to configure remote access VPN using cisco 837.IPSEC and firewall features were added already. However, the VPN client keeps saying "remote peer no longer responding".
Upon removing firewall and ACLs, VPN client works. Therefore, I believe these two parts went wrong. Could you please take a look on my config below and see what is going on. On the other hand, when i issue the same config to cisco 827, it does not work. My question is whether cisco 827 IOS 12.1(3)support IPSEC.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

  • CISCO RV180 - Limited VPN Access

    Hello!
I'm using CISCO Router RV180 for incoming VPN connections. I just learned how to do it, I did all the settings and it is working now. However I have noticed that users who connect through thier VPN Clients can see the whole internal network. Can those be limited to only certain local IPs?
For example my local network is 10.x.x.x. I have CISCO Router Web Interface avaliable to login at 10.x.x.1 and the Web Server I want users to access is on 10.x.x.2. Can I forbid acceess for VPN users who connect through the CISCO IP so this 10.x.x.1 address avalable for local users only?

Dear Marty, thank you for the detailed instructions. This is a good thing to know. I have tried this out and then realized that it probably not exactly what I need, or I missed something from your write-up.
I have the webserver connected to Port 1 and I manage the CISCO Router from that webserver. The CISCO Router has IP address 10.10.10.1 and the webserver is 10.10.10.2. There are no other devices connected to the router. The webserver has additional network interfaces and all local devices are connected through that.
Till now I had port 443 forwarded by the CISCO routed to the webserver for external connections. But a security consultant adviced to switch the external clients from HTTPS to VPN (still leaving HTTPS though). That's I'm working on right now. I was adviced to use L2TP but I didn't find how I can set it up on the Router (though the manual says it should be there) so I made PPTP for now. I did that by adding IKE Policy and a VPN user (don't know if anything else is needed but it seems working fine).
When I try to connect from outside by a VPN Client which is WIn 7 (creating VPN network feature) the VPN network gets created and I can go to 10.10.10.2 to see the webserver. But I also can go to 10.10.10.1 and see the CISCO Router login page. The last one I'm trying to hide if possible. Also I didn't figure out yet if such VPN users can use other ports or it is still only 443 allowed for them. Ideally I want VPN users login and see only the webserver and only on 443 port. Not sure if that is possible.

  • Cisco RV130W VPN firewall problems

    Dear Supports:
I am newbie with Cisco, and I bought a Cisco RV130W wireless VPN router last week but
I got same problem with this router.
1)I have installed a DHCP server in our internal network so I have disabled the DHCP
service under network > LAN > LAN configuration > Server Settings(DHCP), but after
this action, all of our wireless device can not get IP again, finally I have
enabled the DHCP relay and put the DHCP server IP to "Remote DHCP Server" field, and
the problem seems fixed, may I know I have take a right action ? And if the answer
is yes, what is the usage for the DHCP Server "Disable" option ?
2)When I set DHCP to Disable, I find that dashboard still showing that the DHCP
server still in "Enabled" status (Dashboard right top corner > LAN (local network)
Interface > DHCP Server: Enabled), may I know it is a firmware bug or just some
    setting I missed ?
3)WiFi signal is weak but I can not find any setting to control signal strong, some
times the SSID disappeared, finally I find that because I placed a Ext. USB 3.0 HDD
aside the router, after I remove the HDD and the SSID never disappear again, but I
don't know why this case happened and how can I prevent those case happened again?
4)In dashboard I find that VPN server > PPTP User: 0/1 , but in user manual I also
find that PPTP VPN > 10 PPTP tunnels for remote client access, may I know in
actually the router supports 1 or 10 PPTP user(s) ?
5)The PPTP VPN will disconnect automatically after connected 10~15 mins, I have try with 2 android device , one is running android 4.2 with native VPN client , and another one is running android 4.4.2 with apps "VpnRoot" , can you let me some hints how to trace and fix the problem ?
Thank for the support and I am wait for the reply , thanks.

  • Best VPN Firewall Router for iPhone

    Hi,
I am looking for opinions regarding VPN routers that will let me connect with the iphone. I'm setting up an office computer network with about 10-20 computers and plan to tunnel in with iphone and macbook when away from office.
Also, I am looking at a second location, so the ability to have a router to router VPN between two separate office would be a big plus!
    Thank you,
    Jake
    iphone version 3.13

This seems to be a topic that is not easy to answer. Why? There are a lot of variables. Seems like iPhone supports ipsec/l2tp/pptp but when I tried to connect to a pix506e using ipsec/udp (NAT-T) it just kept failing even though I knew all the settings are right. If you are looking for a cheap solution like a cisco small office router/ or a open source firmware for a wifi router, no luck. Cisco ones support some "easy" vpn solution, or a router to router vpn, and the dd-wrt or tomato variant mostly support open vpn or pptp (but I am still researching the pptp right now). Best bet is a VPN appliance like a cisco asa or a sonicwall. you get what you pay for and you should get support as well. AN asa 5510 will do it. or one of the sonicwall units should work.

  • Replacing the Java Code Signing Certificate on the ASA 55xx VPN/Firewall Appliance

    Hi,
basically I am trying to achieve what's documented in
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa80/release/notes/asarn80.html#wp242704
(using ASDM: "crypto ca import" = Remote Access VPN -> Certificate Management ->  Code Signer -> Import)
I give it a complete PKCS12 bundle (unencrypted private key + certificates up to the root CA) to the ASA.
I can indeed verify that it has been imported correctly by exporting it again:
crypto ca export CodeSignerBundle pkcs12 1234
It shows me the private key and all the certificates.
However, the jars used in WebVPN, while carrying the correct certificate, don't have a full certification chain at their disposal:
Using jarsigner -verify I see on a random file from the jar:
    sm       905 Fri Nov 30 00:00:00 CET 1979 Java/lang/CpUtf8.class
          X.509, CN=COMMONNAME, O=ORGANIZATION, L=LOCATION, ST=STATE, C=COUNTRY
[certificate is valid from 8/1/13 4:30 PM to 8/1/16 4:30 PM]
          X.509, CN=LuxTrust Qualified CA, O=LuxTrust S.A., C=LU
[certificate is valid from 6/5/08 11:25 AM to 10/18/16 12:40 PM]
[CertPath not validated: Path does not chain with any of the trust anchors]
Indeed the certificate file inside the jar (META-INF/.....RSA) does not contain what I uploaded to the ASA. One of the intermediary certificates is missing (while another certificate is listed twice).
What could be the problem here? (ASA v8.2(5))
    Thanks for any help,
