RV180 no internet in NAT if DHCP off

Hello,
I have a RV180 running behind a DSL-Router, connected to the WAN-Port. I have "internet" in my NAT if I have activated the DHCP. I want to use fixed IPs, so I have turned off the DHCP, than I have no constant conection to the internet.
Any idea?
br

at the RV180.
The RV180 gets a IP from the DSL-Router, that is working.
If the Local Net is working with DHCP, every thing is fine, but if I use static IPs, it is working but only for 5mins.

Not sure if I am doing this right. This is my first time in the support community.
I imagine what I put in my heading was supposed to go in here.

Turn off NAT and DHCP on one of the devices and try again. See the documentation that came with your device for information about turning off network services"
Does anyone know how I do this? I contacted my ISP (Telus in Canada) and they did not know anything (not that they usually do).

Why do ISPs insist upon making things so difficult for their customers?
If you cannot get them to understand that you would prefer to use your own router over their piece of cheap junk, perhaps the information in the following will be useful:
    http://keithbalomben.wordpress.com/2012/03/29/telus-actiontec-v1000h-hacks-and-i nformation/
    Scroll down to DHCP Settings
You will need to log in with proper "technician" credentials. They are provided in the above link as
    Username: tech
    Password: t3lu5tv
... but these may or may not work. Try it, and if you cannot get anywhere at least now you know what to ask Telus to do in return for your business.

  • RV180 - DDNS behind 2nd NAT router

    Hello community,
is it possible to use the DDNS feature (dyndns.com) behind a 2nd NAT router?
    Network is as follows:
    INTERNET - NAT-Router (unknown device) - Cisco RV-180 (NAT) - Clients
    Kind Regard,
    Michael

If you put your dyndns client in front of the rv180 or one the nat router's dmz, you should get the correct IP address.  I usually use the DMZ port on a nat router when putting a vpn router behind a nat one--this solves a lot of the IP address issues for the vpn router.

  • How do I turn DHCP off?

    1) How do I turn DHCP off?
    2) If I turn DHCP off because I want to connect the AirPort Extreme into a D-Link router can I still connect a USB printer to the AirPort Extreme?
    3) Where do I turn the wireless settings off?

I have a Time Capsule, which is basically an AirPort Extreme with a built in hard drive, set up in Bridge Mode on my network. Wireless is off.
As I mentioned in the last post, I can access the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility if I'm on the wireless network provided by my AirPort Extreme or connected anywhere on the network using an ethernet connection.
Even after power outages or temporary loss of internet from my supplier, I have never had any issues connecting to any of the Apple routers on the network. But, we do get questions from users on the forum who cannot "see" their Apple routers after an interruption, or more often they have tried some unsupported type of setup and have lost their way.
Usually, an ethernet connection direct from the computer to one of the LAN ports on the router will allow AirPort Utility to access and "see" the device again. Rarely, it is necessary to reset the router back to factory defaults and reconfigure it when all else fails.
I can't predict what may or may not occur on your network since I don't have a D-Link router to know how it might interact with other components on the network, so some things just won't be known until the occur.

  • How can I fix my iPod touch while it's plugged in I can go on the Internet but when I unplug it and try to go on the Internet the iPod will turn off

How can I fix my iPod touch. It will allow me to go on the Internet while it's plugged in but when I take it off the charger and go on the Internet the iPod will shut off. I have tried to reboot the iPod but it still does it.

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How to configure BEFW11S4 Ver2 so PC's get DHCP off my Server?

Please help me configure my router. I have disabled the DCHP and set the function to "Router". I want my wired and wireless PC's to get their DHCP off of my Server, but they can't seem to find the DHCP server and can't get an address and can't access the network.
    Thanks, Bruce

Good day, The modem is connected to PIX firewall router then to the server. The WAN side of the BEFW11S4 is connected to Dell PowerConnect Switch which is connected the to server. The PC is connected to the LAN side of the BEFW11S4. If it helps, when I disable the DHCP on the BEFW11S4, the PC appears to pull an IP off of the cable modem 169.254. series. It can't find the DHCP on the server and issue an IP 10.0. series. Thanks for your help. Bruce

  • HT204053 I have IMac OSX6.8 and have just purchased a iPod Touch. When I enter my Apple ID and PaswordI get "Verification Failed.  The internet connection appears to be off line"  My internet connection via my livebox is not off line so why cant I connect

I have purchased new iPod Touch from Uk for english use in France. When trying to set up and log into iCloud i get "Verification Failed.  The Internet connection appears to be off line."   My internet is on line via my Livebox so what am I doing wrong?

Have you gone into Settings to verify that your ipod is connected to some router?  Have you logged in with the security code (if there is one defined for that router)?  If it says the internet connection is offline, then the ipod is not properly connecting to the internet.  Perhaps the router is the problem - new iDevices require routers have the latest firmware.  Older appliances might connect through them, but many users have found that their routers don't work with newer devices.
Try doing this again at some public wifi area as a test.

  • No errors with NAT or DHCP, but can't ping server or access internet

2 weeks ago my Xserve was positioned directly behind a modem and acted as the router to my small office - supplying DHCP, NAT, etc. Then, the Xserve lost it's connection to the internet. The Xserve was unable to pull an address from the modem (via DHCP) and troubleshooting the issue with my ISP resulted in getting my modem swapped.
My Xserve is still unable to pull an address via DHCP directly from the modem. So, I called apple support. The tech I spoke to was extremely helpful and instructed me to place the Xserve behind a router so it could use a static ip - without having to pay my ISP for one. So, I did as he instructed.
Regardless, since my Xserve originally lost connection to the internet I have been unable to get my Xserve to supply NAT to my internal network successfully. DHCP is working fine, the firewall isn't logging any refusals, NAT isn't returning errors. All internal network functions work, I just can't access the internet from any machine other than the server.
Here is the network port breakdown:
    Ethernet 1 (wan)
    ip: 192.168.1.2
    sub: 255.255.255.0
router: 192.168.1.1 (router supplying static ip)
    dns: 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220 (opendns)
    Ethernet 2 (lan)
    ip: 192.168.1.3
    sub: 255.255.255.0
    router: 192.168.1.3
    DHCP settings:
    start ip: 192.168.1.4
    end ip: 192.168.1.254
    sub: 255.255.255.0
    interface: en1
    router: 192.168.1.3
    Firewall:
    Allow all traffic from "any"
    NAT:
IP Forwarding and Network Address Translation
    External network interface: Ethernet 1
    NAT Port Mapping Protocol enabled.
Other notes: I can see the Xserve from any device on the network (in Finder running OS X) but I cannot ping it via the router's ip. (example: ping 192.168.1.3) 100% packet loss.
The Xserve does have access to the internet.
The Xserve leases an ip to the devices on the network, but cannot ping them using their leased ip address.
Initially, I was receiving the following error:
"xserve subnets: create failed, Invalid/missing 'net_address' property
So I modified bootpd.plist by adding:
    <key>net_address</key>
    <string>192.168.1.0</string>
I no longer receive the error and DHCP works properly.
Any help is thoroughly appreciated as this issue has set me back over a week in troubleshooting.

    Thanks again.
I'll try to be more clear about my current setup:
    Modem
    ->
    Router
DHCP enabled but supplying server with static ip of: 192.168.1.2 - hence my Ethernet 1 settings on my Xserve. The DHCP address the router supplies to other devices range between 192.168.1.101 - 192.168.1.150 (this is temporary). I'm using the Router as a temporary network connection for devices as I continue to setup the server. Once the server is completed, I will hook everyone up through the switch.
    ->
    Xserve
The Xserve receives a static IP from the router above (192.168.1.2) even though the router gives DHCP addresses to other devices. The Xserve then goes out Ethernet 2 to (which has also been assigned a static internal address: 192.168.1.3) a switch.
    ->
    Switch
The Switch definitely has DHCP disabled, and merely extends the network connection.
Right now, the Xserve is doing nothing other than attempting to supply an internet connection to devices attached to it. I performed a clean install after a day or two of troubleshooting.
I really want to be able to control content access as well as give certain devices priority over others using the Xserve. I want it to control... the network, in all aspects: DNS, Open Directory (Master), Firewall etc. Am I still able to control the network with the Xserve if it is hooked up side by side to the clients without reconfiguring my router to hop through the Xserve before going to the internet? If not, why not just use the Xserve as a middle man as I currently do?
What are the benefits of using it side by side to the clients? What are the drawbacks of my current setup? (Other than it not functioning)

  • DNS required for NAT and DHCP services?

I have a 10.6.2 server with a static IP, domain name, working as a gateway (I have my reasons) as well as providing some services inside and outside. My ISP has a PTR setup so the domain points to the static IP.
My question is, do I need the DNS service running on the server? Based on some of the docs it tells me to put my ISPs DNS servers in both of my servers ethernet port settings, as well as in the DHCP profile to give out to clients on the network. When I do this, clients cannot resolve names. I can ping IPs from the client, I can even ping my ISPs DNS servers from clients, but I can't resolve names. When I try to dig anything it just hangs there with a blinky cursor.
When I have the DNS service running it's all happy. The only thing is, clients on the LAN experience some serious lag when accessing services on the server, UNLESS I configure the DNS for my domain on the server with both internal and external IP addresses. Is that how it is supposed to be?

In the server zone files, the dedicated IP address should point to the machine name, as in name.someserver.com. The local IP address should point to name.local. If you have more than one domain name, the zone files should show their network IP address, not the dedicated IP address, which should only point to the machine name.
As a side note, I strongly advise against connecting a server directly to the Internet. It should be behind a router with DMZ/NAT/firewall capabilities. By the time you realize why, it will be too late.

  • Sharing Internet With Windows XP - Firewall Off Only (How to unblock UDP)

    Hi
I can share my Mac connection with my windows PC but only if the firewall is off.
On the Tiger forums it says go onto services and click the advanced tab and unblock UDP traffic - and then firewall can be turned on.
This option doesn't seem to be available in Panther - so until I upgrade can anyone tell me how I unblock UDP traffic in Panther?
    Thanks

Hello albertoPeralta. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
To open ports on the Time Capsule, you would use the AirPort Utility to configure Port Mapping.
    AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the Shakespeer host device.
    Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
    o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
    o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
    o Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
    o Public UDP Port(s): 4000
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
    o Private UDP Port(s): 4000
    o Click "Continue"

  • Bridge or NAT and DHCP

Hi everyone, my network setup at home is the following:
-Fiber-->router provided by the service provider-->Airport Extreme
To the Airport extreme I have attacched a NAS, the Apple TV, my Hi-Fi system and the Airport provides wireless connectivity to the home devices (iMac, 2 Ipad and Iphone).
I am lynking my Macbook pro to the router provided by the Service Provider as I need gigabit ethernet connection to the NAS for working with heavy photography files, and this is a must for me. Also I need the NAS to be accessed by the devices attacched to the Airport.
Case1)  I have observed that if I set up the Airport as NAT&DHCP I cannot see the NAS from the Macbook Pro (attached to the Service Provider router), and the speed of the wireless devices connected to the Airport is medium.
Case2)  If I set up the Airport as Bridge, I can see the NAS from the Macbook Pro (attached to the Service Provider router, but this is related to the fact that in this case teh Airport is working as a Switch), and the speed of the wireless devices connected to the Airport is quite higher than teh previous case. The flip side is that with this set up not all my devices work, as the Service Provider does not let me connect as many devices as I want. So I'd need the Airport to be a router
Any hint on how I should set up the network?
    thanks a lot

SO, I have a Motorola modem from Time Warner that they set to Bridge Mode.
This is plugged into an Airport Extreme that's set to DHCP and NAT. It's also got a 5GHz option enabled.
Also on the network, there is a Timecapsule that's set to extend the wireless network.
We have 2 iPhones, 5 iPads, 2 MacBooks and 2 iMacs right now.
Wireless access gets a bit wonky from some of the devices with access to the internet being spotty.
Are there too many devices of this setup? Is there a way to make access more predictable and stable?
    Any ideas?

  • EA4500 Internet Port Cycles On and Off Every Few Second

I bought a EA4500 to replace my old WRT54G earlier this year.  At first the router worked fine.  After the automatic firmware upgrade to Cisco Connect Cloud, I was never able to get the Connect Cloud stuff to work, constant 500 Internal Server errors when trying to access the router with the Internet cable attached.  So I downgraded back to the old firmware and all was well again.  Then I started having problems a few months ago, when I would wake up in the morning, the router would be cycling the Internet port on and off.  I could usually reboot everything and it would work the rest of the day.  I lived with it like this a while, and support couldn't seem to find anything wrong.  Eventually it started getting worse, until the point I could hardly ever get it to stay connected.  I got Cisco to RA the old router and I figured problem solved.   Now while the EA4500 was gone, I used my WRT54G again, and everything worked fine for nearly two weeks while I was waiting on the replacement EA4500.
So today the new EA4500 showed up, I connected and configured it, and it worked for a short time.  Then suddenly I lost Internet, looked up at the modem and the LAN light was going on and off every few seconds.  So I'm back in the same boat as before.
I've tried changing cables, same setup works fine with the WRT54G.  Modem works fine with WRT54G and connected directly to the computer, zero problems.  I tried lowering the MTU, turning on MAC address cloning, and various other things.
My modem is a HughesNet HN9000.
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly apprecaited.
    David

OK, the setup as is works fine with the WRT54G, just the EA4500 has the issue.  It started working again last night, and was working this morning.  It continued to work until about 3:15 PM today, and out of the blue, my computer came up and said the Ethernet connection went off, then it came back on, it did this several times...at the same time, I looked up at the modem, and the LAN light was going on and off on it also.  So the router was cycling both the Internet and Port 1 on and off.
My HN9000 has a static public IP, and the IP it's DHCP server gives out is one digit different than it's own IP.
My router is set this way, and this is what it gets if I switch the Internet to Automatic (DHCP):
    IPv4 Address: 97.xxx.xxx.194
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.252
    Default Gateway:  97.xxx.xxx.193
Then there are two DNS server addresses.  I've tried the router setup as Static IP or Automatic (DHCP) and the problem occurs either way.
The HN9000 seems to pass all incoming traffic straight to the router.
One the LAN side, the router is configured to give out IP's in the 192.168.1.x range, and I have some static leases set.  The router is 192.168.1.1.
Everything works with the computer connected directly to the modem, and with the WRT54G in place of the EA4500.
As far as calling Hughes, they won't support the router.  If it works without the router, and with another router, they will say it's a problem with the router, which I think it is, just not sure what.  Also, just to be clear, I do loose Internet access on my computer when the router acts up, but the HughesNet modem remains connected to the Internet.

  • I use Firefox to access the internet-but when I go off the internet but don't shut down, then go back on Firefox it won't open because "it is already running". Task Manager doesn't show that it is operating so I can't shut it off. What to do?

It is in the question but to repeat.
    1. When I go online I use Mozilla Firefox
    2. While I am doing other work, I usually close the internet.
    3. If I go back on the internet and click on Mozilla it won't come up, stating that "it is already running".
    4. Despite that, when I open Task Manager, it doesn't show that it is running so I can't shut it down or open it.
    5. If I log off or shut off the computer, then after I log in or reboot the computer, I can open Mozilla.
    Thanks from a Mozilla fan.

  • Internet slows down or shuts off for a few minutes, then goes back to normal. What should I do?

So I've been away for a while and when I got back to US I've had some issues.
It's the same internet connection as before, so I'm not sure if that's the problem.
When I use an internet browser everything goes well for a while and then internet suddenly slows down or shuts off , it dosen't show dissconnect or anything.
The only thing that happens is that pages won't load, or they load super slow. This usually happens for a few minutes.
I got my macbook this september and I'm careful with not blocking the fans.
The same thing happens when I play games online, the internet "shuts" off or slows down, freezing the game. I'm now unable to play that game because of this issue.
I really don't know what could've causes this and I'm not really sure how to check, I would appreciate any help.
When this issue happens it dosen't seem to be because of what I have open, how mane pages, or over heating.
(I'm not a hundred percent sure about the heat, it gets warm but hot acctualy heated up as in when it's running heavy applications)
I'd like a response fast because this affects not only my gaming (which I really miss) but also everything else like HW, since the page would die suddenly.
    Please help
p.s It's a wifi connection and I don't have acess to use a cable. I'm trying to get a hold of the password to the internet since I only have it locked on my laptop as "go-to" connections.. My landlord has the password ..
