RV180 settings to use Windows 2011 SBS

I have an RV180W router and I am trying to use the Windows 2011 SBS. It seems like I setup everything properly in order to use the remote access, but when I try to log on from home, I don't have any luck. According to Window's instructions, here's what I have setup on the router side:
1) I turned on UPnP. (they say to either do port forwarding, or UPnP, but I found on the Windows SBS that I had to do both in order for it to say it was working)
2) I have created port forward rules for:
http - port 80 - server as destination ip
https - port 443 - server as destination ip
rdp (custom service) - port 4125 - server as destination ip
3) I have set the server to a static ip.
It seems like I have done everything necessary to make it so that I can connect, but when I go to the *********.remotewebaccess.com from home, I can't connect. When I go to that same link on the LAN, it works just fine.
I'm not sure if it is a factor or not, but I also have setup a Gateway to Gateway with 2 RV180's.
Anyone with experience in setting up Windows 2011 SBS & the RV180 to work together? Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks!!!
Ben

So here's some more juicy info that points directly toward a setting within RV180 being the problem. Yesterday I swapped my RV180 with a Linksys WRT54G and the remote access with the SBS works great!
So I know that it is a setting within the RV180 that is causing the SBS remote access to not work. Any thoughts on what setting would be different from the RV180 and the default settings of WRT54G?
Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts on this!
Ben

  • Windows 2011 SBS Reinstallation, PDC and User CALs - Assistance Requested.

    Hi, Here is my situation,
I currently have a WS2011SBS which is the PDC, running AD, DNS and DHCP, This server is having Issues which I believe a reinstall would likely fix.  We no longer use Exchange or SharePoint on this server as we have moved to MS Online Service MSO365.
I have already moved RDS/TS Licencing and Shared Folders to other servers running WS2008r2.  I also have another Server running WS2008r2 at a different site, linked by VPN (VPN is being replaced by Telstra Private Network link) I have set
this server up as a secondary AD/DNS server (this was to resolve authentication and DNS issues at the other site due to slow VPN connection)
What I would like to know or at least get some advice on is this:
    1. What will be the implications regarding User CALs of reinstalling SBS2011 on my Domain?
    2. Can I re sync AD/DNS from the secondary 2008r2 server or should I Promote the 2008r2 server to be the PDC and demote the SBS, and what are the implications of this on the User CALs?
    3. Is there a way that I can Install 2008r2 rather than 2011SBS but still use the user CALs, as I no longer require Exchange and SharePoint, The servers only rolls will be AD/DNS, DHCP and File/Printer Sharing, as I feel that 2011SBS is less stable that 2008r2?
PLEASE NOTE: I do not have allowance to purchase more hardware, software or licences at this time.  The issues on the 2011SBS server affected Windows Server Backup Service, so restoring a backup is not an option.
I am looking for as much information as possible (I am experienced with some aspects of Server Technology however there are holes in my knowledge), links to step by step procedures for your recommendations would be great, I realise that there are likely
more than one ways around this, so any opinions would be appreciated.
    Thanks In Advance,

    Might try them over here.

  • Always have use windows to configure wireless connection

after using the one button setup on my router, I now have to go to the advanced settings to use windows to configure wireless settings. Every time I reboot the computer I have to recheck the box in advance settings.

the advantage in using the built-in utility is that you dont need to worry everytime you reboot your pc...the problem in using your xp utility is that just like in your case you always need to restart wzc configure on your pc which is very inconvient for any user...make sure that built-in utility is configured properly...

What output formats support the play speed settings on a PC using windows media player?
Here is my need. I need to take my video clips with me on my small PC and view them at slow speed. My playback PC is small and a little slow, so I cant have a very high bitrate. It uses an ATOM processor. It uses windows media player. I noticed the slow playback option is available in some formats when opened with windows media player, other formats--feature not available. What are the best output settings to save my clips on my small PC?

Just to add a few details:
    As stated, WMP 11.0.5xxx
    OS = XP-Pro SP3
    Intel Core2 Quad 2.66GHz
    RAM = 4GB
Graphics chip = nVidia GeForce 8800M (recent, but not latest nVidia driver)
    I/O = 3x SATA II 7200 RPM 250GB
    Virtual Memory = Static 10GB on D:\
WMV's play pretty well in both Slo-Mo and at about 2-3x speed

My computer crashes repeatedly and I get the message pages are not responding do you want to stop, and/or shockwave is not responding do you want to stop. I have Windows XP Service Pack 3, I am having the same issues whether I use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox. My HP Pavilion Desktop has 504 MB of Ram and I am using high speed internet connection. Because it was crashing so much, I used the uninstall program for Flash player to uninstall Flash, I checked my registry and removed anything I saw that was Flash. I then uninstalled Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, then I reinstalled the most recent versions from their websites. I did the same for FlashPlayer and Shockwave Flash. I went to the Adobe website and had them check to see if it was working and it shows I have FlashPlayer 10.3.181.36. The page that shows  which version of flash player goes with Windows XP states that I should have 10.3.181.34 (This is what I thought I had before I updated, I was having the same problems). When I went into my computer to see what version I have, it shows 11.5.9.620 Activex and both Flash Player and Flash Player Object is listed as 10.3.181.34. My firewall for Windows is set to medium. I also am running Norton Internet Security. It takes anywhere from 3-6minutes for some of my games to load, and I have to refresh at least 3-4 times in order to play. When I do start to play it freezes frequently and I use escape to free it up. This has been going on for a month. I have no idea what to do. I am not very computer savy and I have been learning as I go.

  • Im using Windows 7 Ultimate, Cannot Change Windows Update Settings

Im using Windows 7 Ultimate, and I've been encountering difficulties in Windows Updates Settings. I want to change my settings on Windows Updates so I can install important software from the Internet. But the problem is it prompts this message "SOME SETTINGS
ARE MANAGED BY YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR" as well as "NEVER CHECK FOR UPDATES(NOT RECOMMENDED). Please help me to fix this problem... It is really important to me... I hope you can resolve this technical issue.. Thanks!!!

    Hi,
Before going any further, I would like to verify if your pc is in a domain.
If your computer is part of a domain,  this feature may be disable via GPO by your system administrator. You may need to contact it with your IT department.
If it is not in a domain but the issue appears, please make sure you are logging on with system administrator account. In addition, if any security program
is installed, please temporarily disable it.
Meanwhile, please check the GPO settings on your PC:
    1. Click Start, type “gpedit.msc” and press enter.
    2. Navigate to Computer Configuration-> Administrative Templates ->
Windows Component -> Windows Update. Make sure the states of all setting are Not Configured.
    3. Navigate to Computer Configuration-> Administrative Templates->
System-> Internet Communication Management-> Internet Communication settings. Make sure the state of “Turn off access to all Windows Update features” is Not Configured.
    Hope it helps.

    Hello:
I have win7 Professional, have same problem as in this link. I have made those change as mentioned. But, still my computer's windows update setting is not allowing me to change. It is grayed out, and set at "Check for updates but let me choose whether
    to download and install them".
I am its administrator, it is in a workgroup, but it was put in by 'Best Buy Geeks'. I am able to use gpedit.msc, regedit, and also can run cmd as administrator.
I want to change it. Any suggestion, please!

Use the Boot Camp Assistant. The assistant will partition your internal hard drives and install Windows 8. For more information on Windows 8 installation, see the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide.
Can I use an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8?
Yes. Download and install the Boot Camp 5 Support Software before attemping the upgrade by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3. Alternatively, you can manually download the Boot Camp 5 Windows Support Software here.
When I do an upgrade install from Windows 7 to Windows 8, an "Uninstall USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver" message appears. What do I do?
Do not click on Uninstall. Click the back button and Cancel the upgrade. Download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3, or click here to download them. Then, try the upgrade again. See this article for more information.
After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8, Thunderbolt devices are being recognized when I connect in. How do I fix this?
Disable the Windows 8 Fast Boot feature to allow Thunderbolt devices to be recognized. See Boot Camp: Thunderbolt devices not recognized after Windows 8 upgrade for instructions.
Is there an OS X version requirement to use the Boot Camp Assistant to download Boot Camp 5 Support Software?
You need OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later installed to download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software (Windows drivers) using the Boot Camp Assistant. After upgrading, click the Go menu and choose Utilities. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the onscreen instructions. You can download the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide.
Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.  How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. For a complete list of Windows OS support, click here.
    Model-specific Questions
I receive a "Free up space on Drive C" message when I try to do an upgrade install from Windows 7 to Windows 8 on my MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012).  Why am I seeing this?
There is not enough free space available to do an upgrade install with the 64 GB SSD configuration. Delete the Boot Camp partition and do a full install instead. See this article for more information.
I see a black screen or distortion when I install Windows 8 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012). How do I fix this?
The Windows 8 installer does not contain the correct graphics driver for your computer. You'll need to attach the USB media that contains the Boot Camp drivers during installation to address this issue. See this article for more information.
The volume controls keys (F1 and F2) won't work on my iMac (Mid 2011). How do I control the volume?
Use the Settings Charm to control screen brightness. See this article.
My MacBook Air (Mid 2012) will not start Windows 8, or displays VGA graphics when it stats up. How can I fix this?
Your MacBook Air (Mid 2012) needs an EFI Firmware update to address this issue. Download and install the MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.6.
I see a "Windows 8 is not supported on this Mac" message on my Mac. Can my Mac run Windows 8?
For a complete list of Mac computers and the Windows operating systems they support, click here.
    Additional Information
For more information about using Boot Camp, please visit www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
You want to use apps directly for games, excel maybe and don't have enough RAM and processing, run Windows natively. Want to run light weight, use a VM like VirtualBox (free).
Want to do both, dual boot and run Windows as a guest OS, then Parallels or VMware Fusion.
Most do so to run games. Macs and the MacBook Pro line do tend to run hotter under Windows. Fan control is sorely weak to almost not well implemented so use something like AIDA64 and/or other temp sensor monitoring.

  • Advice on which Mac laptop to buy / Advice about using WIndows on it.

I'd appreciate some advice on which replacement laptop to get for someone in my family who just needs e-mail, the Internet, and iPhoto--something simple, small, and portable, like the iBook or the MacBook Combo. However, he has just complicated matters by saying that he'd like to be able to use Windows on his new computer (yech).
I don't know anything about using Windows on a Mac, not even whether this feature is now built into all Macs or not. A recent post I found on virtualization (February, 2006) quotes Microsoft as saying that Virtual PC won't run on an Intel-based Mac (MacBook), though it will on the iBook and the Powerbook.
Here are the questions I'm trying to answer: (a) Is running Windows on the MacBook Combo an issue? If Microsoft doesn't make virtualization for the MacBook, are there other companies who do? (b) Are there features/lack of features on a MacBook that mean it makes more sense to get the least-expensive iBook instead or vice-versa? Again, simplicity and ease of use are the goal here, not state-of-the-art technology. (c) Can you even buy a new iBook or Powerbook any more, since the Apple website seems to feature only the MacBook?
Thanks in advance for suggestions about any of this!

    For what your
family member want to do the 1.83GHz MacBook will be
just fine. Just be aware that if they want to write
DVDs at any time they will have to purchase an
    external DVD writer.
As for Windows, there are two options for running
    Windows on a …
    1) Use Apple's software, Boot Camp…
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
… which provides the ability to use you MacBook as a
Windows computer. Please note that a restart will be
required and only one OS will be available at any one
time. Additionally it is suggested that at least a
20GB larger drive be purchased to accomodate the
    Windows partition.
    2) Use Parallels…
    http://www.parallels.com/
… which uses Virtualisation Technology. This allows
Windows to be used under Mac OS X just like Virtual
PC did with the PowerPC Macs. While this is far more
convenient it's performance does not match that of
Boot Camp although it is still rather snappy for more
requirements. It does vost money where Boot Camp is
free. Again, a larger drive is recommended.
For both Parallels and Boot Camp Windows will operate
at native PC speeds so do not consider an iBook or
    PowerBook.
Thanks, that's helpful. One more question, now that I've looked at the MacBook more carefully: We use dial-up for e-mail and the Internet; this works very well for us and we have no immediate plans to change. Since the MacBook has no internal modem, would you or anyone else reading this say the Apple USB external modem works as advertised?
I see that the Apple USB modem gets very mixed reviews--some people say it's fine, others seem to find it slower than the internal version, and several think it's a piece of junk.
Would you (or anyone else reading this) have any experience using the Apple USB modem for dial-up connection? [That's not meant to be an insult. :-)] Would we now have to expect our dial-up connections to be slower than before? Or do we just have to be sure we have the right settings, compatible server, etc.? Or is the problem Apple's product, and would a 3rd-party product work better?

I have found a fix after doing additional research through this forum. Tech Note #328730 addresses this problem and it works for Photoshop Album 3.2 even though it was written for release 1.0.
Here is a link that will take you directly to the Tech Note:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=328730
When using this fix the Tech Note indicates:
"Imported image data and tags are lost when you re-create the My Catalog.psa file, so you need to reimport images and reapply any tags"
however it did retain the captions (at least it did for me).

  • How to copy Palm Desktop data to a PC using Windows 8.1

If like me you still find the Palm Desktop data (address, calendar, memos, etc.) handy and use it long after throwing away the handset and "sync" ability, you may find this useful.  I bought a new PC using Windows 8.1 and had problems transferring data because of a wrinkle that I figured out, which didn't exist in Windows XP, Vista or 7 versions.  Here's a recap of one way to easily transfer data from those earlier versions if you have a USB flash drive (or Dropbox, Google Drive, whatever) handy :
    1) Download Palm Desktop 6.2 or 6.2.2 to your new PC.  Then give a user name exactly as it exists in your old PC's database.  This name will be used by Desktop software to create a six letter folder name (an abbreviated version of your name) to hold data that Palm Desktop will look up.  Wait a few seconds for this to happen, then close the Desktop application on your new PC.
    2) In your old PC from where you want to transfer data, look for the folder called "Palm OS Desktop" which should exist in "Documents" under "Users" folder and subfolders path like >your name subfolder>Documents in Windows 7 (may be Vista too) or may be under "Documents and Setting" folder in Windows XP.
    3) In this folder "Palm OS Desktop" look for that six letter subfolder of your name, and select that entire subfolder and choose "Copy" or Ctrl-C
    4) Locate the same subfolder name in your new PC (which will have null data), delete it, and then "paste" the subfolder you "copied" into the same exact location.  If you've done it right, Viola!  Your new PC desktop should show all the transferred data once you again open the application.
Most of the same procedure works with Windows 8.1 (probably also Windows 8) PCs.  What I found different was that the data subfolder created under "Palm OS Desktop} had 7 instead of 6 characters with a "0" (zero) added as the last character.  So when you finally copy and paste that subfolder into the new PC you have to rename it and add that "0" for the Palm Desktop to locate this data.
    Hope this helps.

To turn off UAC, go to the Control Panel, then User Accounts.
Under the header, "Make changes to your user account", there is an entry titled "Change User Account Control Settings".
Pick it, and drag the slider all the way down to "Never Notify".

  • How do I use my 2011 27" iMac as an external display for a pc?

I just bought a 27" imac for my home, and was also planning on using it as an external display for my work Dell Laptop running Windows 7.
The Dell laptop has a displayport output, so I was planning on getting a displayport <-> minidisplayport cable, and using the iMac in target display mode.
I would simply plug the minidisplay end of the cable into one of the iMac's 2 Thunderbolt ports. Seemed fairly simple.
Except now it seems from what I have been reading that 2011 iMacs DO NOT WORK in target display mode unless they are connected to another Thunderbolt source. This leads to me two questions.
    1. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If this is true, does that mean I cannot plug my Dell's displayport into the iMac's Thunderbolt port as I described above?
    2. If #1 is true, is there any other option? Are there any adapters that I can use to turn my Dell into a Thunderbolt source for display purposes?
If I can't resolve this I will have to return the iMac
    Thanks very much.
    David

    David,
Sorry you can't use the 2011 iMac as an external display to your PC. The feature you are referring to is called Target Display Mode and works on 2009 & 2010 27" iMacs. The 2011 machines use Thunderbolt as you know however they do support external displays that are not Thunderbolt displays. So for example if you wanted 2 displays on the iMac you can easily do that with either Mini Display port to DVI or MDP to VGA or even HDMI. MDP is the same size as Thunderbolt and this will work fine to drive a display, TV or even a projector.
I'd recommend reading Apple's explanations at Target Display Mode 2009 & 2010 iMacs & Target Display Mode Mid 2011 iMacs.
Using a Mac as an external display for a Windows machine to me seems like a horrible waste of a Mac. Why not enjoy the iMac and if anything run Windows on it and get rid of the PC?

I use Windows Vista and Microsoft Outlook. After migrating to iCloud, the calendar of iCloud tranferred only part of my past Calendar items to the folder iCloud Calendar in my Outlook. How can I transfer all the entries? In iCloud's site all are there.

If the calendar is on iCoud.com, all you would need to do to get it on your phone is go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, sign into your iCoud account and turn Calendars on.  The iCloud calendars will then download to your phone.
