RVS4000 won't get WAN DHCP address

I just tried replacing a cheap domestic router/switch with an RVS4000 V2 on our work network. This has a WAN connection to a cable modem for internet access via a dynamic IP address.
When I first connected the RVS4000 it got a WAN ip address via DHCP of 192.168.100.11. This is the type of IP address we get when there is an upstream problem with our ISPs cable network, and sure enough we had no internet access. The RVS4000 was set to use DHCP on the WAN interface. So I logged a support call with our ISP but they said there were no problems at their end.
I then swapped the RVS4000 out for the original router. This worked fine and got a WAN DHCP address of 77.xxx.yyy.zzz as it should. Swapped back to the RVS4000 and back to the same problem of getting a 192.168... address.
So, I downloaded the latest firmware from Cisco, which was V2.0.3.2 and flashed the RVS4000.
I then tried again connecting the RVS4000 to the cable modem but this time it would not get any WAN DHCP address at all. On the Status/Gateway page of the web interface it said that the WAN interface was down. However, on the front panel there was a yellow light indicating a live connection on the internet port.
Any suggestions? I am assuming there must be a fault, but thought I would check for advice before sending it back.

Connect your computer directly to the modem, obtain the right IP address. Then put the RVS4000 back to the modem connection. Go to the set up, MAC ADDRESS CLONE, Enable this feature then use the option "clone my pc mac".
Then wait 1-2 minutes and refresh the WAN.
Basically this feature puts your computer's MAC on the router WAN interface. You can also use the previous router's WAN MAC if you know it and want to manually type it in.

WRT54G2 V1 Fails to get WAN DHCP address

Hi All,
I have a new WRT54G2 V1 that works fine, with the exception it will not pickup a DHCP address from the cable modem. I have gone through the standard steps assuring the modems, cables and computers work on other setups and have no issues there.
The wireless and hub portions of the G2 work as usual. I flashed the firmware to the latest FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.04.005_US and there is no change in operation, also the G2 responds correctly to a full reset to factory settings.
On the router's reboot the WAN light comes on briefly (assume self-test), but remains off after the router is fully booted.
Have I forgotten something obvious, or is this an out-of-the-box failure ?

Once more step which you can try is, connect the Ethernet cable to the LAN Port 1 and the other end of that cable to the Internet Port of the Router and then check if the WAN light on your Router lids or not...
If it still doesn't lid, then i think it might be the problem with the Router itself, and you need to replace your Router.

Hyper-V - Legacy NIC not getting DHCP address at boot, but when OS loads the NIC gets a DHCP address

Hi, I have a strange issue with DHCP.
I have a lab environment on a single Hyper-v 2012 Server. AD, DNS & DHCP exist on a single virtual machine, I have a flat network 192.168.1.x, all VM's are on this network. I have authorised DHCP and Setup the scope.
A VM has a legacy adaptor, the legacy nic is configured in the boot order as the first device.
When I boot the machine I do not get a DHCP address, however when the OS boots the Legacy NIC then gets a DHCP address??
I need to use a legacy NIC as I need to PXE boot the VM, however I should get an IP address at boot time, which I don't get.
I have run Wireshark on the DHCP server, I can see the legacy NIC do a "DHCP Discover and the DHCP Server respond with a DHCP Offer" however all communication ends there. I have disable all firewalls and I see no reason for this not to work.
I have done tis before with no issues but I am unable to get this to work on this server!!!!!

According to your description , it is recommended to make sure or do :
        In your environment , there is no any other valid DHCP, BOOTP or proxy DHCP offers.
        Make sure if the DHCP server is overload.
        So suggest to test that creating a new “internal virtual switch” and change the settings of VM which provide DHCP service to connect to the new “virtual switch”.
        Then create a new VM use legacy NIC also connect to the new “internal virtual switch” and try to PXE Boot.

Lacie 2Big Network Drive won't Accept a DHCP address from Time Capsule

Good evening all.
I have 2 of these Lacie 2Big network drives. One accepts a DHCP address from my Time capsule and the other does not, giving itself a self assigned IP address instead. It does accept a manually assigned address though. The settings on both the Lacie drives are identical as far as I can tell and they both run the latest 2.0.6 software. I tried hard reset on the Time capsule, and swapping the ethernet cables over on the two Lacie drives but to no avail. The log on the drive that won't accept a DHCP address says it is timing out after 45 seconds and setting a self assigned address. The drive that won't accept DHCP is an older drive with software updated to 2.0.6, but it had the problem with the older software as well. Does anyone have a similar experience and / or solution ?

Also tried resetting PRAM, no luck.
What does work is if I use Manual DHCP mode and specify the router's address (192.168.0.1). Then everything works but not on Automatic, which worked for a long time.

Cannot get a DHCP address from my ISP

I just got a WRT54G router, I managed to configured it all. I can ping any computers on the network. What I cannot do is get my DHCP address from my isp, meaning that I can't connect to internet.
I am 100% sure that my ISP address was given by a DHCP server since that's how it was configured on my old router before it got smashed into pieces.
I have the latest firmware upgrade for the router (version 6) and it is correctly plugged in my modem.
What is strange is that couple of hours ago, I managed to get an address for about 15 minutes, then it dropped and I have not been able to pick a new one anymore, no matter what I do.
Anyone can help me?

We created a custom MDT boot image and when we try to PXE boot it won't get the IP Address.
I press F8 and type IPCONFIG we get Windows IP Configuration. We are using vmxnet3 network adapter.
I think I need to inject 32-bit vmxnet3 driver to the custom MDT boot image which is 32-bit.
We are using it to deploy Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 operating System.
Can I just use the 32-bit custom MDT boot image or do I need to use 64-bit Custom MDT Boot Image?

Honestly, your best bet is to use a different adapter (E1000). I personally have had no luck getting the vmxnet3 driver to work properly in WinPE. It's either really, really slow or it simply doesn't load at all.

EA4500 Won't get a DHCP WAN address from Cable Modem

I have an EA 4500 that I used to replace a bad WRT45 (or something like that). We have an ADT camera system that allows you to view the cameras locally and remotely. All I have to do is set a static internal address on the DVR and the public IP on the router in the application. I duplicated the setting in the old router and everything was running smoothly. However, the speed test result I was getting from the router and speedtest.net were not even close to what we were paying for (wireless and wired. But it was functional.
I called Comcast and they said we needed a Docsis 3 modem. So, I went to the Comcast office and they traded out my modem for a docsis 3. Hooked it up and everything was working again. Speeds were better but not really up to par. Hooked my laptop directly into the new modem and I was getting speeds off the charts. Frustrated, I called Comcast, they said the modem needed to be put in Bridge mode. Then the EA4500 wouldn't get a DHCP WAN adress. They took it out of bridge mode. Same result.
They sent a tech out (Mind you I've been a Network Engineer for almost 20 yrs) and he tells me they gave me the wrong modem (I wasn't there either, roommate let him in). He replaced the modem with a new all inclusive router/switch/wifi modem. He then proceeds to setup a whole new network, which of course , except the laptops that connected, my devices don't see ( printers, cameras, dvr, etc). Then, this baffles me... he did a factory reset on my EA4500. So now there are 2 seperate networks one with slow Internet and one without WAAN services.
After all this, my EA4500 still will not get a WAN address when plugged into the new modem. I would just use their new modem but to make any config changesto it, something as simple as changing the SSID name or the password, you have to call them. They won't give you access to the admin page.
Anyone have any ideas why my EA4500 won't get a WAN address? Oh, btw, I did do a MAC address clone on the EA4500 while connected to the modem and it DID get the address, but the speeds were dismal, not even 1mb up or down.

There is a need to reset and reconfigure the EA4500 router to work with the new modem. There are certain configurations on the router that will make it work for a particular modem, and this might be causing the issue. Cable modem authenticates end users through username and password but there are cable modem/router as well in which the IP address are on the same range with the default IP address of the router. Please try to check the IP address of the computer wired directly to your modem, it should not be on the same IP address range with the EA4500 router since it will cause IP address conflict. You can change the default IP address of your router from 192.168.1.1 to 10.10.10.1. Please try to make sure that your router also has the latest firmware version installed. And it would help if you do port forwarding on the router for your camera and DVRs to resolve NAT issues.

RVS4000 v2 when VLAN used Vista computers can't get a DHCP address.

Just bought a RVS4000 v2. Firmware v2.0.0.0.3. All worked fine when using factory default settings. But I bought this because I wanted to implement VLANs. I defined VLAN2 for the VOIP phones connected through a switch to Port 1. I also defined VLAN3 for my accounts computers, whose switch connects to port 3. All VLANs are defined by Port, untagged.
The phones, using Linux, pick up an IP address fine. So do the two remaining W2K systems. XP systems do but rather slowly. Vista though just hangs for a while, then uses an autoconfiguration address and won't connect unless I spoecify the IP settings. However if I connect the same Vista system to a port which uses the default LAN, it gets an IP address fine. I haven't tested Win7 yet.
Why? Is this a bug in the firmware, or just a bug in Vista?

May be a bug. A Wireshark trace might be illuminating.

OS X 10.6.7 not getting reserved DHCP address from router.

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.7
My router is NetGear WGT624v3. I have the router setup to assign out reserved DHCP address for my Macs.
I am not getting the reserved address, but rather "any" address in the pool.
Other types of devices are getting the reserved address. For example, old windows computers, and my Android phone. Only the Mac computers seem to be getting the incorrect addresses.
Any ideas please?

As long as it shows up in the Windows Boot Camp control panel I'd say fine, happened to a lot of people - I have not had Windows 7 show in Mac Startup Disk control panel for years in my Mac Pro.

Slingbox Pro can't get a DHCP address from my WRT310N router

Reset my Slingbox and on my router Dhcp table I see a dhcp address for 58 seconds but the slingbox network light keeps flashing. Then the address disappears and the slingbox network light continues to flash. Have tried changing the router, same issue.

You can try this link and follow the steps, i think it will help you in fixing your problem.
If possible connect a different Cat5 Cable from your Router to the Slingbox.

Windows will not get a DHCP address from my OS X Server

Is there a trick I need to do to get my windows machines to get and address from my OS X Server?

i have had the same issue. Windows clients (XP, 2003, 7) just could not receive an address from the dhcp server.
I think i got it solved by removing an invalid line in my dhcp server config file.
This is what i did:
stop dhcp server
open /etc/bootpd.plist (you need admin rights to edit)
remove the following two lines:
<key>dhcp_domain_name</key>
<string></string>
save file
start dhcp server again
alternatively, you can fill the dhcp_domain_name with a valid domain name suffix. Both options seem to have worked just fine for me.
<key>dhcp_domain_name</key>
<string>whatever.mydomain.com</string>

I am using Sublime Text for such tasks. It asks for administrator password when trying to save the file, much more convinient than trying to use TextEdit

L7590 won't get an IP address

Howdy,
I have an L7590 that I don't think has Wireless but has a Wired port. When I connect the Lan cable, the link lights come on and it looks like it'd be working.
When I access my router, it can tell that something is connected to that port.
When I have it set to Automatic IP and I print a config page from the printer, I get the always fun 169.x.x.x IP address.
If I set it to manual and assign it an IP, I still can't ping it from a computer.
It seems to me that the NIC inside the printer or the software that runs it is having a problem. I even replace my router for something else and still have the same problem.
I also upgraded the Firmware to see if that would help but it didn't.
So two questions:
1) Is there any known issue regarding this that might have a fix?
2) Is there a part inside the printer that could be replaced to try to make this work?
I don't really want to have to buy a new printer, but it's a pain having to go walk over to the printer and plug in the USB cord every time I want to print.

Sounds like it. I just could not tell if DHCP was active on your router.
Have you tried another Ethernet cable?
Have you reset the printer? Turn it off, hold # and 6 keys while turning it back on.

HELP!!! My network printer won't get an IP address through my AP Express

I am trying to set up an HP 7310 all-in-one printer through my network using an AP express. I have DSL that goes through an AP Extreme, the new draft N, but the network only recognizes the printer if I use the USB port on the Express. This is fine to print, but I want to get it on the network through the Express' ethernet port so that I can use the other functions too (like scanning, copying, etc.). I can't get my express to assign an IP address or otherwise get any connection going through the ethernet port. HELP!!!

Do you have the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) configured as the remote base station in a WDS with the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) configured as the main base station? In order for the AX's Ethernet port to be enabled, the AX would have to be set up as either a remote or relay in a WDS.

Linksys WRT54GL won't get dhcp address from isp

I'm using Linux.
I just bought this router because it had good reviews on Newegg but for the past 4 hours I have gotten nowhere with it.
When I connect the router to the net and click the refresh button on the browser interface, the router doesn't go out and get a dhcp address. I see the initial click of the mouse that hits the modem but no information comes back. No addresses are updated.
I have tried cloning the mac address but that does no good either.

Try resetting the router for 30 secs in such a way that power light is blinking on the router.Also, try doing the complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router.Then, plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid on the modem you could plug in the power cable to the router & then try configuring the router & it will definately work!!!

RVS4000 not acquiring WAN DHCP IP

Hello.
My newly bought RVS4000 does not get any DHCP IP address for its WAN.
Router:   RVS4000
Router Firmware Version:   1.3.20
Cable Modem:   Motorola SB5101U
ISP:   Charter Commnications
RJ-45 connection between Cable Modem and RVS4000:   RJ-45 Cat6 Cross-over cable
All computers are receving DHCP IP address but no internet connection when I connect the cable modem to the RVS4000. RVS4000 settings is all on default - there should be internet connection even in factory default settings since the environment is simple home networking.
However, the internet connection is wokring when I connect the computer that the Charter technician connected the cable modem when they installed the service. But when I connect the other computers directly on the same cable modem, there is "Limited or No Connectivity" - that does not happen to the computer where the Charter technician connected the cable modem when they installed the service.
Not sure how Charter internet distribution structure works but if my hunch is correct, Charter is recording MAC address of devices that is connected to their internet service; connecting other devices like additional computers and a router/gateway won't have any working internet connection since those have different Mac address(es). I thought of that since I tried connecting my laptop via Ethernet cable directly to the cable modem and does not receive any DHCP IP. I also tried the same connection on another desktop computer but to no success.
Anyone knows if my hunch is correct or am I doing something wrong? Please help...
PS.   I have tried downgrading the firmware but still the same connection problem.
Update [20110412 @ 11:19AM]:   I tried it at my workplace's DSL internet connection [ DSL modem/router -> 10/100 Switch -> RVS4000 ] The WAN was able to acquire DHCP IP but still has no internet on both modes - Gateway and or Router. Please help...

Thank you for posting. You can clone the MAC address of the PC that works when connected directly to the modem. First plug the PC into one of the LAN ports and log into the web interface of the router from that PC. Go to Setup ->MAC Address Clone. Check the radio button to enable the feature and press "Clone My PCs MAC". This will fool the modem into thinking that the PC is connected instead of the router. Reboot the modem and router and you should get an IP address from the modem.
Please let us know if this works or not.
