S300M-S2142 -- 32-bit or 64-bit?? Switching from one to the other?

Hi all:
I recently purchased the Satellite Pro S300M-S2142 (and I think a lot of other people did, too!).
When I first booted up I installed the 32-bit OS (Vista Business), but now I'm wondering if I should have gone with 64-bit and whether I will be able to change to 64-bit later.
Thoughts?

I don't have one of those to actually look at, but usually there is a utility that will create the Vista recovery disks from the partition that is on the machine. Check your User Guide, perhaps page 61. I don't see a user guide for that specific model but there is an S300/S300M user guide under model S300-2403.

Switching data between MacBooks (everything from one to the other)

I need a faster notebook for business. My wife's MacBook is newer than mine and has agreed to switch with me.
Both laptops are backed up to the same Airport Time Capsule.
What is the best way to switch the data on both machines, from one to the other?

There are probably other ways to do this.
One way to accomplish what you want to do is to make a current backup of both computers. For an option in case there is a Time Machine problem, I would also make a clone of each hard drive and temporarily store the clone on the Time Capsule.
Boot into the Recovery Volume (hold down command - R or hold down option key) and restart. I would run Disk Utility Repair Permissions and Verify/Repair. Then use Disk Utility to erase the disk. The format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then reinstall the OS.
Reinstall OS
Reboot normally and then attempt to inherit the Time Machine backup for the computer you are working on. Use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to restore the backup. Using the same user account name as on the old computer may make things easier.

If for some reason you have trouble inheriting the Time Machine backup, attach the Time Capsule to the computer, mount the clone in Finder, and copy the files you want to restore.
Once everything is completed, you can delete the clones from the Time Capsule to allow more room for the Time Machine backups.
I would seriously consider buying a 2nd Time Capsule and create two separate backups before attempting anything. One backup isn’t enough because hard drives do fail. Time Machine will allow you to backup to 2 disks and will alternate between them. Instead of using Time Machine on the 2nd hard drive, you might want to consider using the second drive to store a clone on because you can make a bootable clone.

I am switching from a pc to mac and want to know how I go about transferring files from one to the other. There is a chance that I will have to hand my pc back before I receive my MacBook so I will need to transfer on to some sort of external hard drive.

I am switching from an acer laptop to a MacBook Pro. I may have to hand in my laptop before I receive my new MacBook. What is the best way to back up my files so that I can transfer them to my MacBook. I cloud cannot be installed on my laptop because it uses a version of windows that is older and doesn't support it. Hope someone can help.

Connect a blank powered external drive to the PC.
Right click on the Disk in the File manager and choose format: exFAT
(if it's a XP machine, first install exFAT from Microsoft and reboot)
navigate to your user account folders on the PC and drag and drop copy (or copy and paste) to the external drive.
(if a program has your files, then export them out first)
Hook up the drive to the Mac, and transfer files to the desktop or to their same appropritate folders.
Import photo's into iPhoto program, import music into iTunes etc and they will manage those files.
You can continue to use the external exFAT drive between Mac's and PC's
Do not format the drive NTFS or FAT, NTFS can't be written too by the Mac and FAT can't hold over 4GB sized files.
If you format exFAT on the Mac, it likely won't work correctly on the PC.
"Migration" type programs are a utter waste of time and effort between PC's and Mac's for the fact that only certain files (and no programs or anything else) will work between them, also it's a hassle and takes too long. So don't even bother with it.

Once we connected to the database by giving username/pw and db, etc,...
we select one resp...after that can we move to some other resp. without connecting to the database agin.
Could anyone help me out on this.

Windows jump and change to outlines when switching from one to the next

Windows 7 SP1, 64 bit, dual monitors, NON-transparent windows. When I hover the mouse pointer over an icon on the task bar, open windows disappear, leaving only the outline. When I select the one I'm over, things return to normal.
Is there any way to turn this effect off? It is very distracting to have windows appear and disappear suddenly.

This only happens for me when I hover over Taskbar thumbnails but you could try disabling Aero Peek on the Show Desktop button (Taskbar properties) as well as disabling Aero Peek on Taskbar thumbnails (System Properties->Advanced->Performance->Visual

Data gets cleared when i switch from one tab to other in SubTabLayout

Hi,
I have created a PageLayout with with region style SubTabLayout in it.
I have created two tabs for this SubTabLayout which is using same VO.
I have few MessageTextInputs type items on both the tabs.
After entering data into these items of one tab, go to another tab and come back to first tab, data i entered in items on first tab get cleared.
Can you please help me what setting should i have to do to keep the data in those items even i keep switching the tabs.

Welcome to the Apple community.
I assume you do mean a different account and not simply a different iTunes library. Unfortunately, in order to switch accounts, you would need to log out and log in to the second account.

You can add as many e-mail accounts as you want. Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts,Calendars to add them.
When in the mail app,you can have all inboxes displayed together (unified inbox) or you can tap the "Mailboxes" arrow in the upper left and select which one you want.

You have to select between the two accounts in the mail app.
Say for instance that you are reading an email in your XYZ email account. Tap the button in the upper left corner of the mail app to back out all the way to where you can see all of the email accounts.... Tap InBox, then tap XYZ email Account and that will take you back to the main MailBoxes window.
Is that what you want to know? There is no way to simply "toggle" between the two accounts.

Time machine problem. Switching from one external drive to another. Problem started when upgrading to Mavrics, and changing to a WD drive

I am a long time Mac user, running my business on an apple platform since 1984. I currently use a 17" MacBook Pro as my primary computer for work. when it is at work it is plugged in via thunderbolt to my monitor and a one tb back up drive. I use time machine to back up the laptop to the one tb drive. When I go home, I take the laptop with me and use another drive at home as a back up. This way I have redundant back ups, in two separate locations. I have been doing this for years, and Time machine has worked flawlessly, automaticity switching from one drive to another.
I recently switched to Maverics, and got a new drive for home. Now whether I am at home or at work, time machine fails to automatically back up. It will alert me every hour that backups cannot be completed, and I must go to the time machine control panel and manually select a drive and click, "back up now". I also see an alert that says "waiting to complete first back up" even though each backup has been completed.
This is quite annoying, and sometimes embarrassing. When giving lectures in large venues, the backup failure alert appears and shuts down my keynote presentation (again, something new since switching to Maverics and the new WD drive.
I have reformatted the WD drive, and also spent time trying to change parameters in the time machine control panel, but so far no luck.
Any advice out there?

Time machine requires a GUID partion scheme, as well as a Mac OS X extended, journaled Volume.
It needs these to correctly:
1) copy the files
2) run a modified spotlight index pass on the files
Both are required to complete a abckup, and most new drives do not conme this way from the factory.

Here's an easy way:
Pick the user that you want to eliminate (making sure that the remaining user has administrator privileges) and move all of the data that you want to keep into the Shared folder. Reboot or log out and login to the user you want to keep. Copy all the data from the Shared folder into your account - placing it neatly in folders (Documents, Music, Movies, etc.).
Once the data is moved, log into the account you want to delete just once more to make certain that you've grabbed all the data you want to keep. Log out and log back into your admin account and go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and delete the 'old' user.
That should do it.

With multiple inboxes, when I switch from one to another the inbox view is at the top rather than where I was when I switched to the other. This is new.

One inbox is a pop inbox with many messages in it. The other is an imap inbox. If I am working at say, message 2000, in the pop inbox, then switch to the imap inbox, and later switch back to the pop inbox, the inbox view is inconsistent. If there is a new message in the pop inbox when I switch back, the view starts with the newest messages including the new message. If I switch to the imap inbox and no more messages arrive in the pop inbox while I am working the imap inbox, when I switch back to the pop inbox the view starts at the oldest message (in my case #1 of 4900 - requiring a long scroll to get to the newest messages). This behavior is new in the version I am using (24.6.0) on a Mac (10.9.3) so apparently an update changed it. I'd like to always return to the bottom (newest) message when switching to the pop inbox, so if there is a preference setting for that, please let me know, I couldn't find one. Otherwise please fix it.

The first part of this response is regarding the volumn of emails int he Inbox folder. I'm writting about this (although it is not your query) because I would not like to think you could lose all your emails.
I would strongly recommend that you do not save all of your pop emails in the Inbox folder, as it is designed to be an Inbox for incoming mail and not a general store.
You may see a folder in the FolderPane, but in reality your emails are stored in mbox files. Emails are downloaded and stored one after the other in the order downloaded. So, at this moment, you have one single mbox text File with all of your Inbox emails written one after the other into a single document.
Recommend you create some folders and manage your emails.
After sorting them out, you could compact the Inbox to remove any 'marked as deleted' emails.
When you delete an email, from your point of view it goes from Inbox to Trash. In reality it is still in the Inbox, 'marked as deleted', so it is still using space. When you compact your Inbox it removes those 'marked as deleted' emails.
If any corruption occurs in that file eg; TB cannot detect the end of a 'marked as deleted' email, then it may end up deleting a load of emails.
So I would not compact (a task that should be done on a regular basis) until you have organised your emails into other folders:

I would advise you have the most recent at the top, then you do not need to scroll. This option works in much better way for instantly locating new mail.

Is it possible that you are using the same password for the old O2 Study and newer O2 Apple Base Station networks?
If so, Keychain Access is storing the old information about the old network and may be associating it with your AirPort Extreme settings based on the BSSID that William has mentioned.
If that's the case, open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access and look for a listing with the old network name. Delete this entry. You may need to power down both the computer and the AirPort Extreme and restart them.

Switch from one application to another without entered a login detail

Hi,
I have two application in same workspace and they have same authentication or login detail. if i switch from one application to another then it do not ask for login .
for examle if i switch to sample application there login detail is diffrent it ask for username as demo and passoword as workspace then it should for login detail.
can i create a menu of those application those have same login credential?
how can i do this?
