S750 Repair in California

I recently returned from an Iraq Deployment and set my system back up to find it not working. When i set it up and plugged it in, nothing happened, the LED light did not turn and nor did i get the start up power noise.
I checked the fuse and it is not blown so im really clueless as to what the problem. As far as the board looks, i examined almost every part of it and see no signs of any burnt spots. I looked at the c60 section capacitor where a few problems were relying and still nothing.
I have had this unit for around 5 years, while it is in great shape it has seen its fear share of play time both quiet and max sound settings.
I currently live in California and would much rather get my S750 fixed then purchase a new one as it will help save costs.
If there is a simple bone head step im missing to see an easy fix i would appreciate any knowledge, or else i am interested in getting the unit repaired.
Also is there anyone who repairs these close by?

Hi,
You might want to ask around in this thread to see if there is anyone doing repairs near your area.

  • How to transfer from my Ipad to my old pc

I need to sync all my music, pdf files, photos, etc from my Ipad to my old pc (Hp Compaq Windows xp) because my sony laptop hasn't been working well since december 2010,and I sent it twice to repair to California and it is going to take too much time than I thought to fix it.
How do I do at least transfer my pdf files (My own documents I scanned and saved them as a pdf file on Ipad)from Ipad to my Pc?
    Thank u

Julian, there are specific exceptions to that rule. I use a sheet music app called forScore which allows not only importing PDF files, but also re-saving of those same documents from within iTunes to any desired storage volume on PC. iTunes -> My iPad -> Apps -> File Sharing window. I can batch-select files for export, thank goodness. The relevance is that forScore for my work purposes is my main reason for getting an iPad (and also for choosing iPad over all other tablets on the market).
I just wish I could back up my dozens of eBooks acquired through iBooks. I KNOW I successfully transferred one from iPad to PC, but have since been unable to repeat that procedure.

  • S750 sub dead, worth repair? (no warranty)

Tested the sub by plugging in a cd-player directly to the sub and still hear a crackling sound as if the amp is fried or the speaker cone is torn. There are no visible tares in the cone, so I'm assuming an controller / amp problem. I asked tech support for an estimate for what it would cost to repair / replace the sub and they replied with: $240.
I'm wondering if that was a replacement estimate, because for just a few bucks more I could just trash my S750 system and get a new Onkyo 7.1 1030watt system (includes amp / speakers and am/fm tuner). I'll need to buy a new audio card though in order to get the docking unit with the digital out, since creative no longer sells the docking port separately.
So any ideas on the true cost of repair?
    Thanks

You might try connecting the sub's speaker directly to a sub amplifier (don't forget the crossover) and see if you get sound worth keeping it. If the cone is gone, scrap it. It's not even worth getting its coil rewound.
IMHO, asking $240 for a faulty design is not only very greedy, it also an insult on the consumer's intelligence. You will most probably get a refurbished unit which will not do any better, and still feel like an idiot like us after a couple of months.
The satellites are not half-bad though, u might wanna use them to improve the TV sound or something - just keep them above 400 Hz or so..

  • Creative Labs What Is Wrong With Your Manufacturing!!!??!?! RE: Gigaworks S750, XFI e

Ok this is a straight forward RANT! In building my new computer I decided to let Creative be my folks for sound since I've always been impressed with the EAX and surround sound, the first time I played EQ in 4. 3D sound on a first gen SBLi've card I was in awe. I've bought so many speakers and sound cards since and been happy. So I decide with my new computer I will buy the XFI Fatality, Progamer headphones with mic, and the Gigaworks s750 7. speakers. Well I got the headphones and the sound card first, right off the headphones left side sounded blown out to me, so I sent them back, and the new pair worked fine. The XFI card became the issue next I had the cracking and popping noises, I made a few tweaks and was able to kill most of it, but I have 4 gigs of Ram and when I turn on the memory hole in the bios so that XP Pro 64 can see the 4 gigs brings back the popping noises. So I have to turn of 2 gigs of ram that cost me over $300 so I don't have nasty noise when I play games. Oh yea and I sent the card back as well in hopes I'd get a repaired one.... No Such Luck... So then I get to my speakers, the left rear channel is making a sound like a blown speaker so I swap the plug with another channel and its fine and the other speaker in that channel makes the noise, so I send back the sub as a RMA at a cost of $30 to me (not like giving them $800+ for broken stuff isn't bad enough... nothing like salt on the wound.) So after 2 weeks of no sound other than headphones for my gaming, I get my sub back, I hook it up and.... Now the left rear channel is totally DEAD. So now I'm PISSED, I call up and hold it together when talking to the RMA folks. They offer to send me a whole new set of speakers, so I'm thinking cool, maybe its in a cable or the box or something.... Today I get home from work and see the box, I'm like sweet new stuff and spend a good hour carefully rewiring my whole desk with the new speakers and cables. Get it all hooked up and click on the sound test for the 7. and........ The Side Left Channel is DEAD WTF!!!!!!
!!! All I can say is it sucks there is no real competition for sound against Creative, because they know their product will be the demand and if they put out a poorly manufactured item they can get away with only so many people will even bother RMAing and will just li've with it thinking they did something wrong. I am truly disturbed by this trend and can only hope that after I actually get everything working in 6 months or so if they ever fix the noise issue with XFI and maybe a few more RMAs of my sub to get one they TEST before sending it to me... I hate to say it but I think next comp I build I'm going to have to start looking at other sound companies. Its sad to lose faith in a company you hold in such high regards for so long as pioneers. • Very poorly GigaWorks S750 Sub Woofer

Can anybody in the UK provide any assistance as to where I may be able to get the aforementioned sub repaired please. Not impressed with Creatives support desk one bit, only interested in selling me a very slightly discounted replacement as it is out of warranty. I live in central England and would greatly appreciate any pointers as to possible repairers in this region so as to keep the shipping costs down (ie to enable personal delivery). Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Creative Gigaworks S750 speaker placement

    Hey Guys,
As I get deeper into how to improve the sound on my Gigaworks S750 I'm starting to experiment with proper speaker placement.
So far, I have the four floor stands for the side and rear channels.
And going by the book I have the side channels slightly past and behind where my ears are, and they are pointed toward each other, and not directly at my ears.
The two rear speakers are both behind me, but pointed straight toward the front of my room, and not directly toward my ears.
Is this how they are supposed to be? Or should the sides be right at my ear level and right to either side of my ears? Same with the rears? Should they be angled in toward my ears at my seating position?
The diagram in my manual doesn't seem to indicate that the speakers get angled toward the listener except the front center above the monitor.
But other sites all seem to want the speakers angled at the listener, unless these Creatives are doing something different to create the surround sound field?
Here's an industry diagram vs. the Creative manual.
Creative diagram for Gigaworks S750, unfortunately I can't scale it up larger, but refer to page 6 by scrolling down in the manual located at the link below.
    http://www.scribd.com/doc/14711901/C...ks-S750-Manual
So which is the most optimal for my speakers? I'm using option A for my setup in the Creative Manual right now, but just want to know what I should be doing to have the sound setup correct for these speakers.

  • Helpless in California!  Mac Pro circa 2007 won't boot

I have owned a dual Xenon Intel-based Mac Pro since Spring 2007. Today it crashed. On boot I get the apple logo, the chime, the spinning "download" arc...then the gray/white screen just hangs, then sometimes gives my the "no entry" symbol. I have two sets of mirrored RAID drives. My primary set is a pair of Seagate 1.5TB drives that have been in use as the boot drives since 2009. The secondary set are a pair of Maxtor 500GB drives (normally in slots 3/4) which I had used as the primaries from 2007 until 2009. I tried booting from the Seagates in slots 1/2, and again the Seagates in slots 3/4. I also tried the Maxtor's in slots 1/2 and the Maxtor's in slots 3/4. Same results. I get the same result trying to boot from DVD's. I've tried both my Snow Leopard DVD and my 2008 Tiger DVD. I was successful connecting my Macbook to the Mac Pro using firewire and booting the MacPro as a firewire disk (T key). The laptop could read data on the Seagates and Maxtors just fine. I used the disk utility on the laptop to repair the 1.5 TB Seagate primaries (there were some errors, but they seemed minor) and then re-attempted a boot. Same failed result. I then ran the hardware tests from the Tiger DVD: both the standard and extended tests ran to completion and stated that no errors could be found.

Well, let's just say that a lot of the possibilities here aren't good, and it may be time to start thinking of a new system. But before you get too far along that train of thought, I would take it to an Apple Store or AASP in your area, and have them take a look. That much should be free, and you can get a repair estimate so you can decide whether it's worth trying to repair your current system or just get a new one.

  • Apple couldn't replicate my problem during repair, what can I do?

    Hi,
About two weeks ago, my macbook air bought in october 2012 (recently) suddenly wouldn't boot at all in the morning (despite working fine in the evening and being charged during the night.) I brought it in for repairs, and about 5 days later I got it back. After having used it for a couple of hours the same evening I got it back, the screen would suddenly go blank or lose its backlight, or the power would go off altogether (I guess, since the caps lock-light also turned off.) I brought it back to the apple store the next day.
A couple of days later, I got a call from an apple employee asking for further details about what triggered the issue so I told them as much as I remembered, and the day after I got another call from an employee stating that they couldn't replicate the issue. He thus wondered if I wanted it back as it was, or if they should send it back to service once more. As I didn't want my computer back if they had done nothing to it at all (except failing to replicate the issue), I told him that I wanted it sent back to service. He told me there wasn't much chance that they would be able to replicate the issue. Now it's been 6 days and today was when the Apple employee expected it to return from service. I haven't got a call from them.
I am going to call them soon if I don't hear from them, but I would greatly appreciate some advice of what to do in case they have failed to replicate the issue once more (and thus haven't fixed the computer at all). I have been very stressed out about this business both because I am studying my fourth year at college (computer science major) and I need to finish a programming project in less than two weeks, and also because the $1500 I spent on the Macbook Air (I got upgraded ram and processor) is a lot of money for me as a student. I dread getting it back and then getting the same errors as before when I am programming my project. Is it really up to me to be able to replicate the issue?
I currently live in California (which is where I ordered the computer from Apples website), in case it makes any difference.
    Any advice is welcome.

After having read your link, I also think that seems reasonable. I'll ask them when I call them. Do you happen to know why the SMC could have been corrupt in the first place? They replaced the logic board during the previous repair (from which I just had got it back when these problems occured), could that affect the SMC?
I wish they'd explained more about this when they called me, then I maybe would've been able to remember more relevant circumstances about when the problem occured...

  • My Gigaworks S750 system distorts when i turn up the volume... Please Help Me

My Gigaworks s750 has been stuffed from day . It's about a year old. How is it stuffed? turn up the volume and some speakers distort. Its not the speakers, i tested by swapping them around, so the amp in the sub is stuffed. Can i pay creative to fix this? any ideas on cost? If not can i take out the AMP and buy one and plug that into it to replace the broken one?
    Thanks!
    Regards, Mortagen

You're right, it's over my head. I have no understanding of bitrates being sent too fast to the subwoofer, perhaps your brother can break it down into layman's terms for you and then you can enlighten us. With regards to Creative charging you $200 to fix it, it sounds like you've already sent the speakers to Creative. As I understand it from past experience and from what others have posted, Creative never quotes a repair charge until they have had an opportunity to diagnose the system to determine the level of repairs needed. That, of course, would also conflict with Creative's more current policy of not doing any out-of-warranty repairs at all, and not providing any support for any product that is out of warranty.
The crackling that you're hearing is probably there at all levels, you may just need to turn it up to the 50% or above level for it to be noticable. If this is an issue that has just exhibited itself in the last 6 months or so, there is probably a loose or fatigued connection someplace. The most likely is probably one of the 3.5mm female jacks on the subwoofer, or a wire that may need to be replaced.
    andrewc289 wrote:
I posted about the same issue. It is not normal distortion, most likely a bad amp. I am looking into how I can fix this myself also since creative wants over $200 to fix a product that broken because of their poor design.
Check out the thread that involves repairing the sub, it may be a little over your head though.

  • Clock time still in California, though iBook isn't

Okay, I just got an iBook for the wife on eBay. It came from California. I'm in New York, so of course I changed the time zone setting. However, when I set the clock to automatically correct the time to online, it still gives California time.
So, it's a 1.2 GHz iBook G4, running 10.5.8. Any thoughts on how to convince it it's not in Cali anymore?
    Thanks

Hi, that pref seems to be stored in 10.5.8 in a hidden file called...
    /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
But another can affect whether the setting is saved or not also.
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then trash...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    Reboot
See if the Time Zone holds.

  • Creative S750 problem ..

I have an intermittent problem with the base unit on my S750 speaker setup. Sometimes when it is powered up i get the full base output and other times no bass at all .. i removed the rear panel to check all connections and all seemed to work well for a short while. Now again the bass comes and goes. I also get a drop in power putput too on occasions woth output levels going very low. I have checked the speaker setup on several PC systems but its definitely a problem in the main bass unit ..
Any ideas anyone ... is this a common problem and also what are Creative UK like at repairs out of warranty .. ?

Hello Keith, my name is Carl and I to have the S750 sys. with the X-Fi Elite Pro SC. If you get as frustrated with the tech support in Singapore as I do, their only way to fix your problem is to uninstall and reinstall the software. Right out of the box the 750 speaker system has worked great for me and I have had it for going on 2 years now. Are you using a Creative soundcard? In your case it sounds like it might actually be a software issue. If you have tried reinstalling the SC software be sure you do so with a "Clean Boot" in WindowsXP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/30353 or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/33796 for Vista, and here is the things you need to do when uninstalling the software http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=72
I apologize to you if these are things you already know.
    Thanks,
    Carl
