SA5020 Mac Printing

So - I just purchased an HP 5510 Photosmart, and I CANNOT get it to print from my Mac (OS X Lion) or any other IOS device.   I've seen some oblique references to issues with Bonjour; but have no idea where to start.
Help?

Clay,
I would first start with latest version of OS for SA500 devices. After verifying you running on code 2.1.71 and testing to see if you’re still having same problem. Then it’s time to start further trouble shooting. First you want to make sure printer has connectivity to your network. Can other computers print to printer? Can you ping the printer? If you’re computer is wirelessly connected do you have wireless isolation turn on? Checking firmware settings? Under diagnostic you can actually run a packet capture on the vlan to see the flow of packets to and from SA500 device. After checking settings and still having problems (printing) then give us a call @ 1-866-606-1866 and open a support case.
Always read release notes prior to upgrading version of OS
Thanks,

  • Connect mac client to mac printer share across subnets

I need to share printers from a Mac.  I need to connect
Mac clients on different subnets to the Mac shared printers.  I installed
a Mac mini, connected to printers via HP JetDirect Socket (port 9100), and
shared them.  I was able to print from the Mac mini, and connect Mac
clients on the same subnet to the shared printers with Bonjour and print.
I moved the Mac mini to its intended location on another subnet.  I
immediately learned that Bonjour does not publish services across
subnets.  I could not find documentation on how to connect to a Mac shared
printer across subnets, but I did find some third party documentation (only some incomplete
documentation from Apple) on how to implement DNS-SD Service Discovery.  I
enabled DNS-SD and was able to publish the printer shares across subnets, but I
was still unable to connect to the printer shares from a Mac client.  I
found some third party documentation (none from Apple) on how to manually connect to a Mac
printer share by specifying the IP address of the server, specifying the CUPS
default IPP protocol, and the print queue name.  I was unable to connect
to the shared printers.  I receive ping replies from my Mac mini, and port
scan reveals that port 631 for IPP, CUPS default, is open.  Printer
sharing is configured so everyone can print. I am able to connect to the Mac
mini with VNC Screen Sharing.  I don’t see how this can be a network
    issue.
Macs don’t seem to like to connect to our Windows
shared printers because of our PaperCut software, and connecting Mac clients to
Windows printer shares and authentication is beyond the average user,
exacerbated by Macs not behaving the same as Windows when bound to an Active
    Directory domain.
I called Apple support, they escalated to Apple Enterprise
support.  Apple Enterprise support said they couldn’t help me beyond a
single network with no subnets, but Apple Engineering might be able to solve
    the problem for $695.
Why do I need to pay $695 to learn how to connect Mac
clients to Mac shared printers, something that should be easy and intuitive and
have documentation readily available?  Windows printer sharing is easy and
intuitive and documentation is readily available, and services are published
across subnets without have to implement DNS-SD.

Thank you for your reply.  I followed the instructions in the sybaspot.com site and in some of the included references to set up DNS-SD.  DNS-SD worked, but I couldn't connect the Mac client to the Mac shared printers.
    I also found http://www.papercut.com/products/ng/manual/ch-mac-printing-10-8-9.html#ch-mac-pr inting-10-8-9-sharing-printers.
I expanded my search and found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13940, last modified May 8, 2014.  I started work on my project February 2014.  Apple Support could have told me about this document.
PH13940 says: "The computers must be on the same local network as your Mac".  Apple must not consider multiple subnets one network.
PH13940 says: "Printer sharing is for printers attached directly to your Mac. You don’t need to share network printers, because they are already shared on the network."
Apple must define "network printers" as any printer with a network interface.  Microsoft defines network printers as printers shared by another computer.  TCP/IP ports are local ports on a Windows computer, so TCP/IP connected printers are local printers that can be shared.  Multiple users on a Mac all see the same connected printers.  Multiple users on Windows all see the same local printers, but network printer connections can be different for each user.
Apple must not see any value in accounting for printing and assigning the cost to the user or department.  We need to account for printing and cannot have any users bypassing the system by printing directly to printers.  I have created Access Control lists on the printers to limit connections to the specific IP addresses of our print servers.
The documents about setting up DNS-SD and IPP connections must have assumed USB connected printers on a Mac.  The odd thing is that I was able to share a network printer from the Mac mini when the client Mac was on the same subnet.  Is PH13940 wrong?

  • Print from  Windows XP to a shared Mac printer

My Mac is using OS 10.3.9 and I want to share my ML-1210 with a PC. I attempted to use CUPS but the PC claims the ML-1210 cannot be "shared". Is there a step-by-step process for sharing a Mac printer with a PC? Thanks.
    1) I have installed the latest Samsung-GDI with foomatic and ESP ghostscript driver combination for my ML-1210 (which apparently is supposed to assist in sharing).
    2) I added the printer on my PC linking it to my Macintosh as sharing;
    3) When I attempted to print nothing happened. I opened the PC Print Center and found there was an error. When I opened properties/sharing on the printer I received an error message "Sharing is not supported for this kind of printer".
    4) I'm almost positive I've seen postings on the web claiming that this printer has been shared. So I'm obviously still doing something wrong...
    Thanks for your assistance

  • Why does the default Mac print dialog show up in Acrobat?

Instead of the Acrobat print dialog:
    The Mac print dialog:
shows up when I invoke the Print command.
Is there a preference that needs to be reset? Sometimes quitting and restarting Acrobat fixes the problem, but I've had computers that have never shown the Adobe print dialog, only the Mac dialog.

according to your illustrations you have two different Printers setup.
Unfortunately, in Acrobat 9 the Page setup Dialog does not function  it shows any printer.  I've explained here.

IF this is Acrobat 9 - I have sent back bug reports, I've posted in Fedback forum (not discussion Forum) about this as well.  I have yet to see an answer to the problem. What you need to do is on the 2nd one that has the different dialog is set that to the same printer as in the first.
IF page setup does work in your version of Acrobat make sure that while in acrobat choose correct printer then in page attributes click and choose save as default. That way acrobat will always default to this setup to start with when opening Acrobat.
Another thing you can try is if you have removed a printer and added a new printer go to Printer Utility, and remove the old printer. If you have added a printer make the new printer the default Printer.

  • Using In Design on a MAC printing to a Canon MFP to make 8.5 X 5.5 Booklets.  My design is 8.5 X 5.5

Using In Design on a MAC printing to a Canon MFP to make 8.5 X 5.5 Booklets.  My design is 8.5 X 5.5 but the result when it prints is a reduced image of the pages.  Any thoughts?

Is the printing size reduced about what the non-printable margins of the printer are? If so, then the option would be to print to over-sized paper and trim.

  • My Mac prints but my iPad won't

My Mac prints wirelessly but the message when I try to print from iPad I get the message that there is no air printer

Then it's likely you don't have an Airprint Enabled printer.  Check this link and see if your printer is listed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer is not on this list, then you can purchase a printing app from the App Store for about $9.  Printopia and Print Central are to recommended printer apps.

  • LaserJet 3105x printing to Tray 1 - Manual on macs prints from Tray 3

On every other model of LaserJet when the user selects "Tray 1 - Manual" under the mac print options the printer prompts the user to load paper into Tray 1 and waits indefinitely until paper is loaded.
Now with the LaserJet 3015x, the printer just prints the job from Tray 2 without ever prompting or waiting for paper in Tray 1.
If Tray 1 is dropped down and loaded with paper before the user prints it will print from Tray 1. However my users are not accustomed to doing this because all other laserjets do not behave that way.
Windows clients seem to behave the "normal" way, it just seems to be the mac clients and it occurs whether we select the "HP LaserJet 3015" driver or the "HP LaserJet 3010 Series" driver.

Now works for whatever "magical" reason. Question is now a moot point.

  • TA21087 Link to how to keep Mac printer sharing on, please?

This must have been answered many times: How to keep Mac printer sharing on?
Brother MCF-7340 drivers have been installed from original DVD.
Turning on printer sharing remains easy. But sharing goes away by itself.

    Dr. S-
The iPad uses AirPrint for printing.  AirPrint uses Bonjour data.  Some WiFi routers do not handle Bonjour data correctly.
    Two options:
    1.  New WiFi router.  Apple's AirPorts and Time Capsules are known to work.  My Cradlepoint MBR900 works.  There are others, but I do not know of any compatibility list.
    2.  iPad App such as Print n Share.
(The option to run a program on your desktop computer that will share the printer over WiFi, may also require the router to pass Bonjour data correctly.)

  • Help iFelix!  Mac Prints/PC does not on AX

I've gone through pages and pages on this forum and gone to the links put up on iFelix's web site regarding set up via the PC, via Bonjour, etc. I've tried them to no avail. The mac prints fine. I get internet access via AX on both computers but I can't print on the blasted Epson PhotoR260 from the PC (using XP - Home). Besides using a sledge hammer on the PC, any ideas? Anybody??

  • When i try to print from Parallels Desktop to my mac printer, it cannot convert the prescript file.  what should i do?

i use Quickbooks accounting for windows and when i bought my new mac i had to buy parallels desktop so that i could continue to use my accounting software.  it has been working since then and i dont know what happened, but now when i print something i get a message saying that states "Unable to Convert The ProScript File".
    Help Please!!!

    i need this fixed a.s.a.p!!!!

I don't have Parallels; I use Fusion. And in Fusion you have the option to use the installed printer is OS X to print. I have seen printing from Windows 7 to the Mac printer result in errors and there is a chance you are having the same issue.
If Parallels has the same facility where you can use the Mac's printer then I would suggest that you install a Windows driver for your printer in Parallels and not use the Mac printer. This should stop the conversion error you are getting.

  • Print Server doe not broadcast name of Mac printing

I have a bunch of MacMinis that are ethernetted to a Win2000 Print Server, using Windows Print service. The print server feeds several postscript printers around the building. Before upgrading to OS X the OS 9 Macs we used were sending the shared computer name of the Mac that was printing to the printer. Now, with OS X, the name being sent to the printer is System. The MacMinis are using Appletalk to print. Is there anyway to change the name being broadcast to the printer to include the shared name of the Mac sending the print file?

I tested this in my lab to a Win2k03 server (didn't have a Win2k server handy) and with macintosh services and unix print services enabled, I didn't get the same problem. Using AppleTalk the user account short name showed in the Windows printer queue, albeit with extra information.
If I used SMB, then whichever account name that I used to create the Mac printer queue appeared in the Windows queue, regardless of the account that I used to login to the Mac.
Last thing I tried was using LPR, which didn't require any authentication to the Windows server, so that which ever account I used, that was shown in the Windows queue.
So this may give you some other protocol options to try.

  • PSE6 Mac Printing Colours darker than PSE4 - Adobe accepts problem  !Help!

*PSE6 Mac Printing Colours darker than PSE4 - Adobe accepts fault*
My work requires that when I create prints for artists I must replicate all the prints exactly everytime. It worked perfectly from PSE2, PSE3 and PSE4 but now......
I am unable to replicate quality of printing on MACOSX PSE6. it works great on PSE4. I mailed some printed images on art paper to adobe in amsterdam and a cd with the same images. After weeks of discussions phone, email and after testing using their work flow....they came back with some answers.
Finally a couple of replies from Adobe re colour problems and they have accepted that they are double managing the image and that I should use printer management to do the colour conversion.. here are their two replies and the comment that they will now drop me until???????

    Answer #1

Your Customer Service Number is: 129800224

Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.

After consulting with my colleagues about the issue you raised, I can let you know the following:

The issue is both on our as well as the driver software side and the workaround we have given is the best available at this time. This issue is affecting all printers, not just Epson or Canon.

The soft proofing effect that you are seeing in the print preview is indeed an attempt at soft proofing. However since Photoshop Elements managed prints are incorrectly double colour managed it is not as useful as it was initially designed.

As to the exact details of why this occurred, we have no official information.

We believe that this will resolve the issues you are experiencing, however, should the reply not help solve the problem, please contact us again, quoting the case number given above, and we will re-open the case.

Subject: Re: Adobe TS #180107025 / Mario / PSE6 oversaturated Print (KMM3793441I51L0KM)

Dear Mr. Laugesen,

We have had word back from our engineers regarding your issue.

The Photoshop Elements team are aware of the problem and are working with Apple and the printer manufacturers to get this to work correctly. In the meantime, the only workaround is to switch off colour management in Photoshop Elements and let the printer handle the colour management.

Unfortunately we can not make an estimation as to when a fix will be provided. We will close the case for the time being as there really is nothing more we can do about this issue besides offering the suggested workaround. Closing this case does not mean that the research will stop however and the engineers are working on a solution to this.

  • HT1178 Do I want to create a new wireless network or join my current network?  I can't connect an ethernet cable to the Mac / printer and to the wireless modem at same time - in two different rooms.

I am trying to set up Time Capsule so that I can do my first backup (after 1 1/2 years!) with Time Machine.  I have read other forums, but in each case they instructions eventually do not apply.
I have connected my TC to my existing wireless router.  This sits in a bedroom and cannot be moved as a rental home.
I have plugged in the TC and updated the software.
Now - do I want to A Create a New Wireless Network (remember I can't connect the TC to Mac using an Ethernet cable). B Replace an existing base station or wireless router with TC (only intend to use for TM as don't know other benefits as of yet). or C want TC to join current network.
Thinking C.  If I choose C, it then asks A TC to wireless join current network (NO as already connected using Ethernet). B want to connect TC to my network using Ethernet to extend my existing wireless network. C want to disable the wireless network on this TC and connect it to my computer or network using Ethernet - CANNOT do this as devices can not be in the same room.
Or do I want to create new wireless network - first set of questions - choice A?  What is the benefit to creating a new one when I won't be in this rental house for longer than 18 more months??
    Please help and quickly!  Thanks!

    Let me suggest some things.
But first ask exactly what wireless router you have now and what type of broadband service?
Are you happy with the wireless on the current router? If so, then you can plug the TC straight into whatever computer you have by ethernet, short 1M cord with no connection to the network. And use it without affecting your existing network at all. This is trivial setup.
Although you don't say exactly what Mac and printer you are using, is it a desktop? Laptop it is definitely easier not to plug it in, but a desktop you can plug in the TC and it will all sit happily together.
How is the printer connected and to what?
I am not sure why you need such quick help.. this is all minor setup stuff.. and 18months in todays world is like permanent man.
Your multiple A, B, C are more confusing than helpful.
The best choices without more info.. are to replace the existing wireless router with the TC. ie your option B.. but how to do this depends on the type of connection. Is it cable or adsl? Can you easily bridge the existing modem router.. if that is what it is?
Think carefully in the ideal world what would you like..
    and what do you have..
We can probably suggest ways and means to fit what you like to what you have.. without introducing a stack of options that are doing your head in.

  • MS office 2008 now crashing when we try to print. No changes to computer; same old software. New printer 9 months ago, no trouble printing until last month. Other programs (adobe, mac) print fine. What can I try?

I have an iMac from 2009. It's running OSX 10.6.8 and we've used MS Office 2008 for Mac all along without any trouble.  We replaced our printer 8 or 9 months ago, and we've had no trouble printing from any program until the last several weeks. Now, when we try to print ONLY from word or excel, the print window appears, but then the spinning rainbow comes up, followed by a Microsoft crash message: "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I tried to trick it into making a PDF, but the crash comes too fast. The only change to our entire Mac ecosystem is the following: We also have a Macbook Pro that has the 2nd allowed installation of the same MS Office 2008 for Mac. Due to liquid damage 6 weeks ago, that computer was replaced and all of the data and applications were moved from the dead one to the new one. Could this possibly be because microsoft detects a "third" computer "using" its software? I'm guessing no because I've seen several threads about problems similar to mine, and none mention licensing issues. In terms of troubleshooting, I've shut down, unplugged, restarted and tried newly created docs as well as old ones. Same results, no matter what.
