Safari 2.0 textbox bug?

I was using Safari 2.0 on MacOS 10.4.2. I loaded a page with a textbox that already contained several lines of text. The text was unreadable because all the characters appear to be piled up on top of one another. This happened on several different pages. It did not happen with Safari 1.3.1 on MacOS 10.3.9. Is this a new bug, and is there a workaround?
I can't give you the URL because it's password-restricted, but here's part of the source code:
<table style="height:40%; width:90%; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto;">
<tr>
<td class="boldtext" style="font-size:16px; text-align:left;">Question Text</td>
<td class="boldtext" style="font-size:16px; text-align:left;">Figures</td>
</tr>
<td style="width:50%; vertical-align:top; height:100%;">
<table class="whiteTable" style="height:100%; width:100%; background-color:f6f7ed; vertical-align:top;">
<tr><td style="width:100%; height:100%; padding-left:30px; padding-right:30px; padding-top:10px; padding-bottom:10px; vertical-align:top; text-align:center;">
<textarea name="statement" style="height:150px; width:400px;">
<script>document.write(getStatement());</script>
</textarea>
<script>
document.problemform.statement.value=getStatement();
</script>
</td></tr></table>
The textbox contents are set with document.write(getStatement()). Again, this all works in Safari 1.3.

I can confirm this bug (isn't it irritating?). One solution is to use another browser; I've never had this problem in Firefox. Another would be to turn off AutoFill; even though you're not using an AutoFill entry, AutoFill seems to have this unfortunate effect on leading zeros entered manually.
Next time you run across a page that won't take your zip code, click on Safari/Report bugs to Apple and send a bug report. Maybe if enough of us on the East Coast complain, someone will fix it.

  • Safari 5.1.7 bug ?

    I installed safari 5.1.7 in windows 8/7/Vista/XP 32 bits environment and installed the lastest java runtime version ( 1.7.0.25 ) .
    When I visit the web site which using the <Applet> tag. It always show me a message box and lead me to install Java runtime.
    I have enable java in safari and already install java runtime. Does it is the bug for Safari 5.1.7 version ?

    Safari for Windows is discontinued, outdated, and unsafe to use. With Java installed, it's even more unsafe.

  • Is there a workaround for the Safari "clickable hidden content" bug?

    Hi,
    I'm encountering a bug in Safari where hidden content (non-visible content hidden with the CSS attribute overflow:hidden) to be clickable. I did some googling and found other people who are having this same problem:
    http://www.dmxzone.com/forum/go/?35908
    http://archivist.incutio.com/viewlist/css-discuss/76660
    http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/webkit-dev/2005-November/000496.html
    But no one seems to have a workaround for this. The last post contains a reply by an Apple developer saying he checked in a bug fix for this, but his reply was posted two years ago and I'm still seeing the problem.
    Does anyone know of a workaround for this? Hacks or kludges welcome.
    Cheers,

    Hi
    As Safari uses the WebKit structure, you may find an answer to your question at the FreeNode Network. You may also find help at the WebKit Open Source Project.

  • Scroll indicator sometimes disappears in Safari iOS 8.3 bug. (On scrollable divs using "-webkit-overflow-scrolling:touch")

    Hi,
    After updating to iOS 8.3 on an iPad Air, it seems something is wrong with the scroll indicator on scrollable divs in Safari.
    It scrolls like it should be, but randomly I just don't get to see the scroll indicator on the right side of the scrollable div.
    You can see the problem when refreshing the page, sometimes the scroll indicator is visible and sometimes it is not.
    Here is a small example, to view on an iPad/Safari: http://www.roidesrois.be/new_site/div_scroll.html
    The code used should be correct. Before the update I never saw this problem before.
    Here is an example from somebody else. http://www.quirksmode.org/css/css2/overflowscrolling.html
    I see the exact same problem there too.
    When using Chrome or Mercury on an iPad I don't see this problem, only in Safari.
    Can someone please confirm this problem or maybe has a solution for this?
    Is this a bug in Safari that needs to be solved?
    Thnx in advance,
    Kind regards.
    Lester.

    Hello to both of you.
    Don't know if this will clarify or mudle the issue but in the same platform context I have a similar issue. Don't know if you are familiar with the LaPresse App (go to AppStore and download it: it is free) but it has vertical text that begins mostly offscreen (just a small portion is visible), which you can swipe upwards and eventually beyond the top, without the tablet page height ever resizing at any moment. It behaves very similarly to an Adobe Premiere title starting off-screen at the bottom, then rolling upwards (e.g. as you would swipe, on the table), and ending off-screen over the top. That's what I'm trying to reproduce using Muse and cannot achieve. As soon as I move the text below the defined page size, Muse automatically expands that page size to accomodate the new text position. I thought of turning off vertical scrolling in the Page properties to force a static page height but the scrolling options in Tablet layout are disabled (by the way: why is that?)

  • How to report Safari title bar rendering bug?

    I have captured a screenshot of a Safari for Windows bug where the title bar renders incorrectly when the "Develop" menu is turned on. Where can I submit this information?

    Click Help -> Report bugs to Apple...
    This method allows you to send your bug report directly to Apple. Thanks for sharing this info with the forum. I was not able to reproduce this error.

  • Safari automatically closes? bug!

    I was browsing engadget.com today and when I scroll down to a certain article, it automatically kicks me out and returns me to the home page. I'm not sure which article it is but this bug is reproducible.

    Yup, it would appear that some javascript heavy pages can cause Safari to go down under. The iPhone seems to recover well from this, but if you get hung up at some point, press and holde the on/off button and the Home button for about 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears. (keep holding both down when the first screen pops up requesting permission to quit.
    This is a reset (reboot) but you don't lose data.
    No guarantee that your problem will go away for good. But it provides good temporary relief.

  • Safari has a stupid bug on OS 4

    I've used iphone3GS for nearly 1 year. And Safari worked well until I updated the new OS 4.
    This bug appears when I surf a website, click on a link and go to deeper URL, and after that I tab the Back icon of Safari browser to return to previous URL (parent URL). The browser navigate back to the parent URL but it loads old data which I guess from its cache. I have to tab "Refresh" to load the URL again to refresh the website's content.
    It's a minor bug but annoys me a lot.
    I don't understand while Apple lets such trivial bug happens. Please do something.

    Thanks for that, BlueInGreen.
    My code uses the non-parameter version of JFileChooser already so the cause is something else i think.
    The only thing i do to JFileChooser is the follwing:
    JFileChooser openChooser = new JFileChooser();
    openChooser.setCurrentDirectory(new File("."));
    openChooser.setMultiSelectionEnabled(true);
    openChooser.setFileSelectionMode(JFileChooser.FILES_AND_DIRECTORIES);This is so frustrating because the code looks absolutely fine and works perfectly in 1.4.2!
    Thanks,
    JJ.

  • Safari is FULL OF BUGS (OSX Mavericks 10.9, Haswell Retina Macbook Pro 13")

    Tab x's disapear (to close tabs)
    Tabs don't always work (I try to open something in new tab and it just doesn't)
    Safair won't even quit unless I open up force quit
    Pinch zooming completely freezes Safari..
    Is this being FIXED? How could this many bugs get past apple. They happen ALL THE TIME.
    I'll reset Safari and it will work fine for about 10 minutes, but then its back to s**ting itself.

    Hi,
    I don't think these issues are common with all Macs running mavericks. I also have a 13" rMBP with haswell and my safari works perfectly.
    Do you have any addons that may be causing the problem? Have you tried shutting down and all that?

  • Is there any exposure to recent "heartbleed" in osx 10.6.8 or safari 5.1    d" bug in

    Is there any exposure to recent "heartbleed" bug in osx 10.6.8 or safari 5.1?

    See: https://github.com/musalbas/heartbleed-masstest/blob/master/top1000.txt
    and
    http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-protect-yourself-from-the-heartbleed-bug/
    Heartbleed is an SSL package, it's a web protocol, not the computer.
    The problem exists with an open source software package that some websites use to establish SSL connections. There is no patch to be issued for your computer. The vulnerability exists on the websites themselves. Yahoo was among the sites with the problem but it has been fixed already.

  • Safari is shutting down (bug memo to Apple comes up)

    When I use my Safari application of late, it has started to shut down by itself. I get an error message screen to Apple and I have filled out the info 3 times- but I am not sure what to do beyond this -
    I recently had trouble with the system and bought a new battery(3 mos ago), but sometimes the machine itself shuts down, and I have important material on here that I don;t want to lose - also, the battery seems to run hot alot.
    Do I take it to a genius? (I am in NYC). And if so, will the genius wipe out all the stuff on here or what?
    Thanks -I love this machine and I suspect I have an internet bug...though I know those are few and far between...
    thanks!

    Let's try to solve the Safari problem first.
    Corrupt preference files are often the cause of apps crashing. Go to Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.safari.plist to the trash and launch Safari again.
    When the computer shuts itself down, exactly what are you doing and is there any warning? Is it plugged in or running on the battery? What is the battery's charge level?

  • Safari 5.1.x bug? Can't scroll down while dragging text.

    I'm new to Safari. Formerly I was a Firefox user.
    Usually, when dragging down text, and the cursor reaches the end of the displayed screen, it automatically scrolls down as long as the user is dragging down the text by mouse or trackpad.
    However, I recently found out, Safari 5.1.x doesn't work that way.
    Dragging text up works as I expected, but dragging down doesn't. This is why I believe this is a bug.
    I made a YouTube video showing this behavior.
    http://youtu.be/SF7P-gRng00
    Any idea?

    Hi...
    Not sure what's causing this but you can report bugs to Apple from your Safari menu bar. Safari > Report Bugs to Apple.
    And try deleting the cache associated with Safari. Seems to do a more thorough job then emptying the cache from the Safari GUI.
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Launch Safari to test.
    ~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
    For Lion v10.7x:  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Safari logging into hotmail bug.

    i've been experiencing problems with logging into hotmail. I'm currently running safari 1.3.2 on osx 10.39. i can no longer leave hotmail as my homepage because it seems to time out after a while and the only way to log back in is to delete all the hotmail cookies. i wiped my harddrive and completely reinstalled my system the other week after a few years of running on the same system. since then safari doesn't open a window when launched at start up, and the hotmail problem. any suggestions?

    Hi
    I dont use Hotmail but this is really strange. In my opinion it has something to do with settings of Internet Explorer because with Firefox everything works. Theoretically this means that nothing is blocking your connection and AntiVirus/Firewall doesnt block these connections to Hotmail.
    In options of Internet Explorer you have different Zones, like trusted sites, restricted sites, etc. In your case I would add MSN page that you need to trusted sites.
    Furthermore you block/allow Cookies from certain webpages. Make sure that Cookies are not blocked.
    Thats all what I can say and the moment and I hope I could help you! :)

  • Safari on Windows XP Bug

    Here is a web-site that is crashing on Windows XP, but not on a Mac. Both systems are running Safari 3 Beta.

    Specifically, when we click on Regional Radar, then on Animate - that's when the crashing on Windows XP started. Now whenever we load the page, it crashes. The site works fine on a Mac. Any advice???????
    Maybe updating the video drivers???? What about java etc???

    Never got resolved, so we don't use Safari for Windows even still in 2009 b/c this site crashes Safari. But the site works on Mac Safari or Windows IE.
