Safari 5.1.2 and Youtube videos

Anybody else getting this???: 5.1.5 will NOT play any videos on Ytube at full screen. Small player & the new mid size player are no problem, but clicking on the full screen button has no effect.

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin...

• How can I get webpages and YouTube videos to load faster?

Webpages and YouTube videos load painfully slow and sometimes not at all on my iPad. I rarely have more than one signal bar lit. It hasn't always been this way. Nothing has changed with my wireless service. I tried clearing my history but that didn't help. Any ideas? Thanks!

Close other apps that are running.  Double click the home button, and (assuming you're running iOS 7) swipe up toward the top of the screen the images that appear over the app icons you see to close those apps.
Also close extra Safari tabs you may have open.

• I installed Safari 7.1. Now YouTube videos have a bad font for all the interface text that is part of the video embed.

Since installing Safari 7.1, all the text in YouTube videos (title, resolution, etc.) is all little font error boxes and therefore completely unreadable.  Nothing else is having this problem, just the text that is in the embedded videos themselves.
Any suggestions?

What I did (in this order) was, set YouTube to HTML 5, bring Flash up to date, fontrestore, clean font cache with Fusion, reboot.
So far it has now remained fixed for me.  I have Mavericks and it is up to date.
by ‘fontrestore’ I mean
         sudo fontrestore default
in terminal as described on http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/113107/how-to-restore-default-fonts-on- mavericks
fontrestore removed some of my fonts from my System and Library, but I moved them all back in on the theory that I might want to add fonts, but was not looking to remove them.
I don’t know which of these steps solved the problem.  All I know is what I did and what the result was for me.  As always, use ‘sudo’ at your own risk.

• Safari as RSS Reader and Embedded Videos

I'm trying to slim down the amount of extraneous software on my computer and would like to begin using Safari 4 as my RSS reader. But, a lot of my favorite web feeds have posts containing embedded youtube videos or other multi-media besides pictures. I've been unable to ascertain whether this is because Safari does not offer this capability or if the problem is on my side.
Just to clarify, I DO know that I can view these posts individually from the feed site and view the videos; but I would like to be able to open a feed in the "feed://" view and watch embedded media.
Any help or insight?

bump.

• In iOS 7, Safari crashes often, especially with YouTube videos

Since iOS 7 upgrade, Safari crashes on a regular basis.  I notice this especially when going to a page with embedded YouTube videos.  Sometimes it happens just by going to the page, and if not then almost always when trying to play the video.  I have tried rebooting, resetting, turning off iCloud, etc., all to no avail. I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 2, and this problem occurs on both.
P.S. I updated to iOS 7.0.2, and this problem, which was happening before, still happens.

Exactly the same problem here (iPad 2, 64g).
Tried it all, shutting down all background apps, restore, you name it.
I believe it is a YouTube app problem.....I installed Jasmine to watch YouTube videos now (you need to favourite them in your YouTube account to access them easily).  Absolutely no problem watching them using the Jasmine app.  No video crashes (on YouTube, anything longer than 5 minutes would crash).
Other than that, it is very frustrating having it constantly crash.  Hopefully this is fixed soon.

• Im having trouble playing games, dvds and youtube videos. any help?

Im having trouble playing CD games on my Mac. They open and then close right away everything i need is downloaded. I have trouble watching some YouTube videos. Some play and then the others either go in slow motion or dont play at all. I also am having trouble playing DVDs. the DVD play opens then says that "a valid video device could not be found for playback". If anyone can help me out that wpuld be great.

For server issues try using OpenDNS servers. System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS.
Click on the + in the left column and insert the following:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Click OK, then click Apply
For you reference: http://www.opendns.com
Actually 10.8.3 is snappier than before. Even Safari (updated). Boot to your ML recovery disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Utility.

• Macbook is slow to load webpages and youtube videos are stopping

I just recently purchased a Macbook pro, however, its been slow to load webpages, youtube videos, etc.  The youtube videos frequently stop playing and I have to reload the page.  Its not the connection and I havent had the computer long enough to have to clear safari chache.  WHY

Sorry to bump this, but I'm having the same issue, though it's not a poor router problem (upgraded that hoping it would fix it).
I tried the OpenDNS and it helped once, then stopped loading Netflix (Netflix, Youtube, and Facebook seem to be common problems, as well as "new" webpages that I don't go to often). If I connect directly to my Ethernet the internet works great. My iPhone connected to WiFi works great. It's just my Macbook pro and it just recently happened when I moved to my new house (I had the same ISP at an apartment and had 0 issues). Any thoughts?

• Embedded videos and youtube videos stopped working since last update. Any clues

All video functions on my IMac have stopped working since updates on Saturday. Videos embedded in web page and on youtube have stopped working.

Assuming you are using Safari ...
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Back to Safari. Press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari, try a video.

I'm having the same issue; non-HTML5 videos won't play. Specifically they start for a couple seconds and then freeze. I'm running Windows XP and Firefox.. I tried de-selecting hardware acceleration, increased the local storage, and I don't know what else to do. XP, Firefox, and Flash are all the latest versions.
This has only been for the last 2-3 weeks, and the only things that have changed are updated Flash, updated Firefox, and supervisor installed Norton while I was on vacation.
Please, any suggestions?

also i try set the security.ssl.allow to true but no result.
everything right with IE but problem only with firefox :(
please help me

Hi,
Does this happen in Safe Mode or with extensions/plugins disabled? Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode
[Try the add on HTTPS Everywhere and disable youtube.com in the HTTPS Everywhere rules and I can watch YouTube videos in this Firefox profile as long as it's not over SSL]
In youtube you can also try to change the video quality or disable hardware acceleration.
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/> <br/>
# Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
# Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.
This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

• Can't play music on ipod and youtube videos on speaker mode after update

Hi people!
I just updated to version 3.12 yesterday and after which, i tried playing songs with ipod mode and the speaker was not working. Tried plugging on a earphone and was able to listen to the music. The same issue was encountered on playing YouTube videos on the phone via speaker mode. The speakers however works when someone calls and while communicating via speaker mode on a phone call.
I tried to do a system restore but was unable to revert back to the previous version 3.11 on my backup file. The same issues were encounter after doing a restore and notice that the phone boots up from a hard reset significantly longer and some ringtone files which shows already sync into the phone on itunes was not found on the iphone itself.
However just when i was about to give up, i tried one last time to reboot the phone again to troubleshoot if the speakers was the one causing the problem, I tried setting "Lock sounds" and "Keyboard Clicks" off and on again and was able to get the speakers working now for ipod and youtube. Thanks goodness the speakers wasn't spoiled.
But when i sync some of my music files back from my computer again and every time i hook up to charge my phone, the problems keep coming back...
Is there anyone encountering this problem too and any permanent solutions or should i just visit the service center for a peace of mind as i do have 6 months of warranty left...
Thank you all for your time. Regards...

Try the standared fixes:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults.

• Facebook and Youtube Video Setting Compression and Tools?

Hi Folks,
I'd like to start putting our Live band videos up on Facebook and YouTube, and I was wondering what the latest trends are in that direction.
I have the freebies MPEG Streamclip, ffmpegX, as well as some of the the older Macintosh products Final Cut Express HD 3.0, and iMovie 6.0.3, and also the Latest QuickTime Pro 7.6.4..
I know that there is a lot of information out there as well as misinformation, (or old information) and I was just wondering what the best ways to get the best compression setting, the best sounding audio and looking video up to these sites.
Thank You For Your Time,
Eric

in case, your source is HDef, I prefer a 1280x720/30fps/h264/max. 6MBit/sec conversion.. (=you can set FC/e or iMovie in the Export with Quicktime/Options) YT cares for approbiate download (=smaller for older computers) ..
I'm not familiar with FB .. me too old for such..

• Why do GarageBand, iMovie, Photobooth, and Hulu and Youtube videos slow down my whole computer?

I have a higher end 13" MacBook Pro running OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 that I purchased in August of 2010. About a month ago, I was using iMovie to edit a project when all of a sudden it started responding extremely slowly. Like, near impossible to work on my project slow. The whole computer was lagging, the mouse was unresponsive and I could barely use the gestures on the trackpad to get to different programs. Eventually the pinwheel of death showed up, and I quit iMovie. As soon as it closed, everything returned to normal. I restarted the computer to see if that would help, but as soon as I opened iMovie again, the whole computer started lagging. I then noticed that the same problem occured when I used GarageBand, iPhoto, Skype, and when I watched Hulu or YouTube videos. With all of these programs/sites, everything is running fine beforehand, but when I open them up, chaos sets in. This problem doesn't occur when I use other intensive programs like Photoshop or Illustrator, nor while I'm browsing the web. The only web problems are when I watch a video. Any video. Other than that, web pages are as quick to load as ever, and I can use the computer normally for any other task. This is seriously a problem because I use iMovie and GarageBand for school a lot, and my grades depend on me being able to use these programs effectively. All of these problems have persisted with these apps since that first instance about a month ago, and no significant changes occurred to instigate them. In attempts to solve the situation, I have cleared my cache, freed up space on my drive (I have 56 free gigs out of 320), I have verified and repaired the disk permissions, and I have downloaded the Apple provided Trojan removal tool for Snow Leopard. This seemed to work for about 10 minutes, but the apps and videos quickly started lagging and slowing down my whole computer again. If anyone else has experienced anything like this, I would love to hear exactly what has happened to you and to see what you did to [try to] fix it. Thanks for reading all of this, I need all the help I can get right now. Also, I can't watch The Daily Show or The Colbert Report on Hulu anymore, and it's killing me! Thanks again.

It's very difficult to say without knowing more about your system. There are a number of possibilities. First, your 13" lacks a discrete GPU, so the CPU is doing the work that a GPU would have done as far as decoding video streams, etc. Each video stream will consume considerable resources from the machine, and if you have multiple things running with video streams being decoded (for example, a browser with video Flash or cumbersome animation and iMovie running at the same time), then that may be a factor.
Additionally, it could be that you are memory constrained. You didn't post a picture of the process list from activity monitor or the memory usage stats, but you probably want to look and see what the memory and CPU usage is and who's consuming what. Some applications are pretty inefficient. For example, if you have iPhoto open and have thousands of images, the indexed metadata and thumbnails are all stored in RAM. iMovie pulls in clip thumbnail sets - (and worse, it has to do on-the-fly transcoding video assets from some cameras that don't encode the video using the parameters it expects to make indexing frames easier). Again, this would show up as periodic spikes in CPU activity for the app.
You seem to have plenty of disk space, that's not likely to be a problem.
Check if Time Machine is running. Time Machine introduces a performance impact, but it's exacerbated by the presence of frequently changed large files (e.g., you don't want Time Machine backing up your video projects while you are working on them).
Lastly, you may consider checking the console for error messages. This might reveal background processes that might be bogging down the system, or things like filesystem/disk errors. If there are errors in the filesystem, when you access certain portions of the disk, the OS and applications can slow down or lock-up as a result.

• Firefox and Youtube videos

Initially after installing Leopard Youtube videos would play fine in Firefox, now the Player window does not open in Firefox. Any ideas

No. YouTube does not use QuickTime. YouTube videos are VP3 encoded Flash videos. You need Flash Player. The current version of Adobe Flash Player (Version: 9,0,47,0) can be downloaded here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BIOW
Moreover, the current version of Flip4Mac WMV is not fully compatible with OS X 10.5. You must use the v2.2.0.39 beta, which you can download here: http://www.flip4mac.com/wmvbetaregister.htm

• Safari crashing in Pogo and some videos & ads

I am having a problem with Safari crashing. I have Googled and searched Mac forums for months now. There seem to be many people with crashing Safari problems but after trying all the troubleshooting suggestions I’ve read, have still not been able to solve it. Pogo has no answer other than use a PC.
Configuration:
PowerMac Dual 1.25GHz, 2GB RAM, dual WD 300GB drives, Dell 20” Display. Leopard 10.5.4, Safari 3.1.2 (5525.20.1). Software Update is run weekly, so all is current.
Problem:
Mostly it crashes while playing games on Pogo.com, but will also crash when trying to play a video clip. Seldom if ever on YouTube, but often on videos from news sites (can’t recall a specific site at the moment). I can generally browse, search and research for hours on end until I come upon a web page with a certain kind of video or flashy ad, which will more than likely cause a crash. A restart seems to help for a little while, but not for long.
Memory & Settings:
In Activity Monitor/System Memory, nothing appears to continually grow or get unusually large. With game in process, Safari shows use of 91.19MB Real and 1.04GB Virtual Memory. Summary at bottom shows 1.26GB free right now with Safari, Word, Console & Activity Monitor open. Safari is set to remove downloads at close, open to blank page, clear RSS daily, enable plug-ins, Java and JavaScript, DB storage set to 5MB but have tried 0MB. I have a lot of bookmarks, but have tried removing all but 1 or 2 and that made no difference. Java Prefs shows v1.4.2 and v 5.0 loaded with 5.0 as primary.
Testing & Fix Attempts:
The Mac passes all tests on the Apple Hardware Test Disc, Disk Utility and DiskWarrior every time they are run. Some of the other things I’ve tried: Prefs rebuilt, Safari history and caches cleared, reset Safari, com.apple.kernelcaches (folder in /System/Library/Caches) and Extensions.kextcache (file in /System/Library) deleted as recommended, removed Logitech’s Scroll Enhancer from InputManagers (now empty), no other Enhancers installed, Flash Player uninstalled and version 9.0.124.0 reinstalled, reinstalled several OS and Safari updates from downloads, opened new user account.
Alternative Fix Attempt:
Giving up on fixes, I cleared off my second drive and did a fresh install (and reformat) of Leopard off of my Retail Version disc. After the install, I booted onto that drive and immediately started playing on Pogo. It’s the quickest place to get a crash. I was able to play for 2 hours before Safari crashed. I sent in my report to Apple and went back to Pogo. 5 minutes later, another crash. Reported and back to Pogo. This third time, Safari crashed while the game window was trying to open. The game used in testing is a simple solitaire game called First Class Solitaire, but just about any will get the same results. Remember, at this time nothing had been installed on this drive but the original Leopard install. No updates. No other software. No migration of my documents or previous settings. I had not even made any prefs changes. Before installation, I made a point of unplugging everything but the monitor and the wired keyboard and mouse that came with the Mac. I continued to update (from downloads) to the current OS versions and security before installing any 3rd party software and the Safari crashes persisted.
I got a MacBook Pro (Intel) in December and it sits on the opposite corner of my desk from the PowerMac. I don’t have any problems with it at all. As a matter of fact, I don’t believe that Safari has ever crashed on it. Both feed wirelessly off of the same router.
I no longer have any of the crash reports from the fresh install, because I let Leopard Cache Cleaner do it’s thing and it wiped them all out. I do have 20 crash reports and 6 hang reports from 7/12 to 7/30/08. I don’t know what are the important parts to send, but a condensed version of 5 different crashes is listed below. The first two are the most common.
I apologize for the length of this post, but I’m at my wits end. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You for your time and consideration.
