Safari 6.0 won't Play .m3u8 files under Mountain Lion

I have embedd some streaming video in my web page, but it won't play in Safari 6.0 under Mountain Lion 10.8.1.
The streaming video shows just fine on my iPad 3 and on my iPhone 4, and it shows just fine in Safari 5.1.7 when I boot up under an earlier system version.  In 10.8.1, however, all I see is the black "loading" bar, but nothing ever happens.
Any help will be appreciated.

I am getting the same issue.
In the new Mountain Lion update 10.8.2 it says that it fixes safari so that you can have it automatically open safari and it will open all last windows.
I did the update, I don't have that option still under my general settings in safari, when someone else did the update and they have that option to reopen last windows when opening safari...help please

  • Lost ability to play .mov files in Mountain Lion orginally saved in Lion or earlier

I'm hoping someone can provide an explanation for this one. I've edited many .mov files using QT7pro under OS 10.7 and earlier and have always saved these files as .mov files. I recently updated a 2008 unibody MacBook with a new SSD and a new install of 10.8 and I'm getting the dreaded codec error messages while attempting to open these files on that computer. I've been doing this for so long without any problems, that I haven't a clue as to what codec could be creating the issues. This is even more infuriating when many of the original files that I brought into QT7pro on my other macs were QT .mov files. So, how can a original QT file, saved on another mac and edited and then saved in QT now be broken in Mountain Lion? Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Mark

thanks very much for your reply Kurt, that news is quite a relief. As you can probably tell, i'm about to re-build my system from scratch, reformatting my drive. I'm currently at the point of researching do's and don'ts and i should add i very much liked your article on font management!
    Best wishes, Richard

  • Safari 5.1 won't play .mov files using the embed tag

Since upgrading to Lion (and Safari 5.1), any page that loads a .mov file using the <object><embed> tags gives me a "Plug-in Failure" error. If I take the HTML and load the same file using the <video> tag it works fine.
Did Apple drop support for the embed tag? Is there something going on with my Quicktime plugin?
Here is an example of a page with an embedded .mov:
    http://www.mediacollege.com/video/format/mpeg4/streaming/example.html
Does this work for anyone running Safari 5.1 in Lion?

please check to verify if you have the remains of plug-in attched to DivX and make sure you have installed quicktime plug-in by going to Safari -- Help -- Installed Plug-ins. If you ever uninstalled Divx without using Divxuninstaller, you'll meet this problem.
Now download Divxinstaller.dmg and run it. Then you'll see the uninstaller in the corresponding application folder.
Click uninstaller to fully uninstall Divx. Relaunch safari and enjoy!

  • IOS 6.0.1 Safari won't play audio files. Error: "Cannot play audio file."

I recently updated my iPad to iOS 6.0.1, now Safari won't play audio files in any format. Error: "Cannot play audio file." Previously, it worked fine. I tried downloading and using GoogleChrome and Opera Mini, and these also won't play audio. What's up??

Solved the problem. It seems that once iOS 6.0.1 installed, it caused all of my browsers to mishandle audio files. When I reset the iPad, that cleared up the problem.
Before upgrading to iOS 6, my browsers would "autoplay" the sound files. After iOS 6, "autoplay" is disabled so you have to manually click play to play them.
Nonetheless, everything is working fine again except for "autoplay," which I can live with.

  • HT5271 Downloaded latest Apple updates that informed me old versions of Adobe Flash Player were disabled and advised me to go to Adobe and down load latest version of Flash Player. Did that, but Flash Player won't play swf files, which it did before.

Downloaded latest Safari update that informed me that older versions of Adobe Flash Player were being disabled and then advised me to go to Adobe and down load latest version of Flash Player. Did that, but Flash Player won't play swf files, which it did before. (Instead of opening, it comes up as a page of code).

    Hi..
    Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
    Click:  Delete All
    Now select the Storage tab.
    Click Delete All
    Relaunch Safari to test.

  • In Lion, Safari 5.1 no longer plays .m3u files

In Lion, Safari 5.1 no longer plays .m3u files - it just downloads them, and dragging the file back into the browser doesn't do anything. This functionality used to work in 10.6 - the .m3u file would play directly in the browser. The .m3u files still do play directly in Firefox 5, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with the Quicktime plugin, as both browsers should be using the same one.

I just experienced this (trying to listen to audio previews at Amazon.com). If you are running the Click2Flash extension, set it to allow Flash on the domain. That allowed previews to play in Safari for me instead of downloading .m3u's.

Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
    1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
    2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
    3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.

  • Front Row won't play .mp4 files

I just recently started using Front Row and, for some reason, it won't play .mp4 files. The said files are in my Movie folder and show up in Front Row's "Movies" menu, but when I try to play them it says "Selected video could not be played, format was not recognized."
    Please help!!

iTunes only supports MP4s encoded using the Main Profile, but many MP4s that you can download from the web are encoded using High Profile. These need to be converted.
You can use an app like VideoSpec or MediaInfo to list the encoding characteristics of your MP4s.

  • HT3775 Quicktime 10.2 (603.6), it won't play .AVI files

I have Quicktime 10.2 (603.6), it won't play .AVI files, tells me "file format isn't recognized" the above article says it does play .AVI files, what gives?

There isn't a codec installed which can handle that specific AVI file; AVI is a container, not a format. Try installing Perian.

What format are the videos that don't play.
WMV...Windowa Mwdi Videos you'll need the flip4mac component. Free trail:
    http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
Other codecs, Perian and it's free:
    http://perian.org/
Flash videos like the one on youTube. Adobe Flash comonent and it's free.
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=DXLUJ
You should download all three and install. Remember to rebuild your Permission after install any or all of the above.

  • HT1338 Quicktime Player no longer plays under Mountain Lion

Quicktime Player no longer plays under Mountain Lion.  It loads, I can see the video but it does not move when clicked on to advance. It does move page by page mannually with the arrow buttons but does not play when clicked on the video advance button.

    Is this a known problem?
Yes, if you mean that the MOV file may contain data that is not supported by the QT X AV Foundation, Modernizer, and Convert 64-bit QT X structures embedded in the Mavericks and Yosemite operating systems but still supported by the 32-bit QT 7 structure still included in these operating systems and/or supported by the "open" codec configuration accessible by QT 7.
Has the format of mov files been changed?
I don't believe the file container format has changed but security updates and/or Mavericks/Yosemite codec support limitations may fail to recognize or support a particular file container/data compression format combination. Since you have not provided any information regarding the data actually contained in the MOV file, it is impossible to be more specific here. However, in most cases it is possible to use any of the available FFmpegX based transcoding utilities to manually convert unsupported data to file/compression combinations that are compatible with both QT X and QT 7 based apps under any current Mac OS X systems.

  • Safari slow under Mountain Lion

A friendly enquiry to the Apple Expert Community
After I have upgraded my LION configuraiton with the latest MOUNTAIN LION Release, Safari has become very slow in loading web pages. I am connected to a highly performing Internet DSL Link (VDSL 20kbit's DL / 2kBit's UL).
Under LION I had no problems in this area. Also I must mention; when using FIrfox under Mountain Lion (ML), the Internet and Web Page Loading Process is very fast!
What have I done for test purposes:
    1) I deactivated all iCould services to see whether it would improve - no change - still slow
    2) I Did a clean ML Installation with no software etc on it - from scratch - all patches loaded etc. - Safari STILL SLUGGISH !
    Assumption:
There is a bug or new feature within ML, possibly the new combined URL and Search Bar feature (searching ahead, etc) which slows down the load of Web Pages... ?
    Anyhow,
The results of my short tests give me a strong indication (proof) of, the slowness of Safari 6 under ML is not caused by mal user handling or buggy software installed, but an initial insufficiency of the first release of ML
    Question:
Does anybody have already found a slution to the described problem?
    many thanks for some feedback
    Urs

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the page that opens.
Click the column headed Kind in the list of keychain items to arrange the list by kind. Look for certificates that are expired or invalid. Delete any you find.

  • Missing files from mountain lion software.

I have lost some files for mountain lion and don't have enough space to download it. I have backed up my files. If I changed my hard drive capacity will I be able to download the software?

Wow... quick responses.  After a LONG time and alot of troubleshooting, I have determined that my firwire ports are not working.  This is the process I went through to determine this.
Was running Mountain Lion and using Target Disk Mode to try and copy some files to another computer.  Plugged my computer (running in TDM) into another computer and found that my HD wouldn't show up.  Rebooted my computer and noticed that it wouldn't boot into Mountain Lion.  It would sit on the Apple Logo with a spinning gear.  After a while of trying to troubleshoot the problem, I then tried reinstalling Mountain Lion on a different HD (removed my internal one and replaced it with another one - the one I'm using currently, so I know it works).  I restored the Mountain Lion InstallESD.dmg image file to an external HD and tried booting from it.  Upon trying to boot from the external drive, I too found that I was getting the Apple with Spinning Gear.  Tried to boot to Lion and got the same thing.  I then tried to install Snow Leopard and after a long time, it did install, but took a LONG TIME to boot up.  Once it booted, I checked in the System Profiler and found that my firewire ports were not working (driver wasn't loading or something the like - I don't remember the exact error code).  I then deleted the firewire kext files as many others have done, and boom, it was very fast.
This brings me back to my original question.  How would I remove the firewire kext files from the InstallESD.dmg file so that I can boot into Mountiain Lion?  Once I am able to install the OS, I will then delete the kext files in single user mode.
I should also mention that I have found the BaseSystem.dmg file and am currently trying to create a copy of it without the kext files.  I guess the problem I am having is getting my computer to boot using the modified BaseSystem.dmg file located in the InstallESD.dmg file.
Thanks again to all of you that responded so quickly.
    Todd

  • Why is Safari running so slow under Mountain Lion?

Why is Safari running so slow under Mountain Lion?

I have other mac's on my home network that are still running Snow Leopard and the are performing well. I wanted to use the iCloud so I upgraded and instantly started experiencing the slow down, to the point of ridiculousness. Other function are mixed some normal speed, others a day on the beach with the spinning ball. Firefox is at full speed, good thought, haven't checked Chrome yet.
Last night and hooked into a projection unit that adjusted my screen resolution for a presentation and after the event my Mac reset back to the normal settings and Safari launched and is running normal speeds so far. In the past there have been issues with performance speeds and certain resolutions, has anyone had similar luck or is this a fluke?
