Safari causing problems

Right,
This is my first post and I will admit here and now that I may not be quite as tech savvy as some others on here.
From this morning, every time I open Safari, it stops any other running applications and just searches for about 5 minutes, without ever uploading the page. My internet connection is fine as Firefox is running no problem, as is Skype, messenger etc.
I am not able to force quit Safari when this happens and just have to wait about 5 minites before I can finally quit, or alternitavely just switch off the computer.
What is the problem here? I did a software update last Sunday, and i see Safari was included there. However, I have had no problems all week. This only started this morning.
I am giving up on Safari for now but any advice would be appreciated.

Update: I followed all of Linc Davis’ suggested steps here: Problem with iMessage Setup also reset the App Store Re: Hey guys, here's the deal: despite of the fact that I have all of the options at the Software Updated center all set up to perfectly receive updates notifications from Mac App Store, I'm not receiving none.
Nothing changed. One more detail, though: in Keychain, under System / Certificates, both “com.apple.kerberos.kdc” and “com.apple.systemdefault” are showing as “This certificate has not been verified by a third party.” On the other hand, these guys seem to think that’s a correct setting: http://www.finetunedmac.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=25295

  • Resetting Safari causes problems with iTunes

I frequently have to access a problematic Web portal for work that requires me to accept all cookies for it to work properly. So, I've take to periodically resetting Safari to clear out all the tracking cookies that accumulate.
The problem is this: when I reset Safari, iTunes Match stops working (it doesn't throw an error; the icon just changes to a cloud with a lightning bolt inside).
In order to get things working again, I need to log out of both Match and the iTunes store, quit/relaunch iTunes, log back in, re-add the computer, and wait for it to sync before I can use Match again.
Even if, by some distorted sense of programming logic, Apple has linked the browser to it's music player, performing a housekeeping function in one app shouldnot cause an adverse issue in another app.
This issue has been going on for several versions of both apps, and I was hoping it'd be cleared up with iTunes 11, but, nope. I've even reinstalled the OS and started from scratch on one of the machines when I upgraded the hard drive, but the problem persists there, too.
I'm using Safari 6.0.2 on OS 10.7.5 on a Mac Pro, Safari 6.0.2 and 10.8 on both a MacBook Air and a Mac Mini, and have the same issue with all three.
    Annoying, to be sure.
So, after all of that, does anyone know of a workaround that will allow me to clear Safari of unwanted tracking crap without causing all those login issues with iTunes Match?

I only signed up to iTunes Match a couple of days back but am also having this problem on my Macbook Air. I too like to Reset Safari regularly.
As you've noticed, it is the cookies being cleared by Safari which causes this problem. I've gone into the cookies and found apple.com is the one that we need to keep in order to keep iTunes match happy on this device. I've tried to find a way to protect this cookie and exclude it from Reset Safari or Remove All Website Data, but no joy. I can't find a way to do this.
One workaround I have come up with though, is to manually delete the cookies and other website data, whilst keeping apple.com. This may be of no help to you, zeraphoto, as I guess you're looking for a way to do this with one click, such as Reset Safari, but this may be of use to others with less knowledge of cookies.
When you go to Reset Safari, untick Remove All Website Data. This will prevent cookies from being deleted. To clear cookies and other webiste data, go to Safari Preferences, Privacy, then under Cookies And Other Website Data click on Details. Here you will find the sites which have cookies and other website data stored on the device. Simply select all except for apple.com, and hit Remove. iTunes Match will still work.
Like you say though, Apple really need to make iTunes independent of Safari. If it is storing data, it shouldn't be in the general cookies location on the device. It makes no sense.
Apple, please correct this somewhat major flaw.

  • New Adobe Flashplayer plugin for Safari causing problems

The newest version of the Adobe Flashplayer plugin eats up 15% or more CPU constantly and requires that I ForceQuit Safari several times a day.  These problems went away when I removed the Flashplayer files from Library/Plugins.  Now Safari is running like before.
    Anyone else notice this?  Thanks.

  • Safari 5 installation caused problems between apps and Mail.

Following on from here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11634165 . It would appear that a new version of the WebKit, installed with Safari 5, has caused problems with applications setting up an output message using Mail.
I am using Filemaker and, using a Filemaker command in a script, I call Mail with a PDF to attach and some text to imbed into the body of the message. Since installing Safari 5, the text has a black background and the PDF is in a strange framed box with a large "X" in the corner!
I don't want the framed box and the receiver of the message cannot read black on black. Please correct this bug!
Fingers have been pointed at WebKit!
I have discovered that selecting the text and toggling "plain text"/"rich text" clears the background. But I cannot do this automatically AFAIK.
    Any other suggestions please?

First of all: Sorry for my bad English ... school is very long ago ..;-)
I've got the same problem and it seems to be "unsolvable" for us .... but I found out a way, to live with it for a while ...
    1. Build a new script in Filemaker, e. g. "mailformat"
    2. Put the following steps into the new script (sorry, it's out of the german version of filemaker)
    a) "Scriptpause setzen", one second (translation - perhaps:-) : script brake, the 2nd term in the list of functions in scriptmaker window
    b) Applescript ausführen (translation perhaps: execute applescript, nearly at the end of function list)
the applescript, you need, are only 4 rows:
    activate application "Mail"
    tell application "System Events"
    key code 17 using {command down, shift down}
    end tell
    3. After each "send Email" Event in your database, execute the new build script "mailformat" ....
In my case, I need the brake at the beginning of "mailformat", otherwise, the text is for a few milliseconds visible, after that "the black hole of Safari" appears again ...
HTH and sorry again for the bad English

  • ITunes and Safari access problems

    Running 10.3.9 with Safari 1.3.2
Suddenly I am having problems with iTunes and Safari. I can no longer access my account in iTunes, get Keychain Invalid error, I have run Keychain first aid, nothing works. Completely deleted all keychains, and still no access
I also can no longer download from Apple site, have limited access to areas on the Apple site. Certain pages from the Apple site aren't loading completely.
Certain other websites not accessible anymore, getting "couldn't establish secure connection" error message.
Seems like something changed in my security settings.
Can access from other computers in house, so not a ISP problem.
Any suggestions on what might be causing problem.

    kevgil,
It is not necessary to post a duplicate topic asking the same question. If you find that you are not receiving help from someone you can always "bump" your existing topic by just replying to it. That will of course bring it to the top of the list.
Anyways, you mention "Can access from other computers in house, so not a ISP problem". It would help to know if these other computers are using 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2? Are these computer connected in any different manner than the affected computer that you are having the problem with.
Did you try the browser that I suggested in your previous topic (Camino 1.6.8)? Safari 1.3.2 is no longer supported and will have many problems with certain websites and their features (such as flash version etc.) Please try Camino and let us know if the problem persists. This will at least let everyone know that the problem is not with an outdated browser.

  • Old Pre-Leopard Desktop Folder Lurking and Causing problems

I'm confused, is this supposed to happen? After wondering where all my downloads had gone, I realized the old desktop was still lurking on my computer. I only realized this because I had changed icons. Under "devices/macintosh hd" there is a desktop folder, the pre-leopard one, the current one doesn't exist there, just the pre-leopard one and the os9 folder. Is that normal? It causes problems sometimes when saving things from the internet or email applications. I have to be careful when choosing the location because saving to desktop will sometimes send it to the old one and the files then don't show up on my actual desktop. They also don't seem to appear in spotlight when this happens. Is there a fix for this? Thanks.
    Message was edited by: texasstar7

If there's anything in the Desktop folder at the root level (Devices >> Machintosh HD) that you need, save it. Then, drag that folder to the trash. You can also drag the OS 9 folder to the trash. Do not empty the trash yet.
Restart and launch Safari. From Safari menu choose Preferences >> General and re-choose "Desktop" in "Save downloaded files to". If all is well with your downloads you can empty the trash.
On the OS 9 when you try to trash it, if the System Folder squawks and tells you it is "owned by the system" just drag the system folder out of the trash, open it, remove "system" file, After a restart the "system" file will delete.

  • Safari & JavaScript Problems

On some websites, I cannot use scripted buttons etc. This is true in all browsers (Safari, Firefox, IE, etc.). I have no problems with my Windows machine. Is there a setting I can change or an add-in that might let me use these sites? I'm not getting any errors in Java, so I'm assuming it's a compatability issue between OSX and the Java being used. Any help would be appreciated because I now have to use my PC to access certain sites (and I have to use them for work).

This is from my similar Safari problems a few months back. It may apply to your Java problems.
I confirmed that it's my Tiger Safari failure to handle Java Applets that is giving me troubles. Java scripts are OK.
Relief, my Safari Java problem is solved. I got the clue to the cause in an Apple discussion, a chap in Germany using Panther had the identical problem.
The problem was caused by older Internet Plugins contained in my UserID>Library>Internet Plugins.
These plugins take priority over the Internet Plugins contained in HD>Library>Internet Plugins.
So removing the duplicate older Internet Plugins from UserID>Library>Internet Plugins corrected the Java applet problem. I had more duplicate Plugins there than the Java ones.
This happened because when doing a clean install I selected to copy over my UserID from the previous Jaguar system, a logical thing to do to carry my files and settings forward.
But bringing forward the Internet Plugin Folder is obviously a big problem for those bringing forward their UserID when installing MacOS X.
Here is a very good site to test your browsers handling of Java Scripts and Applets.

    Hi
Macbook Pro 13, OS X 10.7.4, Safari (latest rev).
I have discovered that the "Add This" extension with Safari causes Gmail to disable buttons/links.  Disabling "Add This" clears the problem.  Needs fixing!
    Thanks

    MacBook Pro 15, OS X 10.8.5, Safari
Thanks for posting this information.  I had been searching for a solution to this same problem and came across your post.  I am not even sure how or why I got "Add This" in the first place but have deleted and problem solved.

  • Null values from DB2 cause problems

    Hi,
I have another problem with database link to DB2 using IBM iSeries Access for Linux on 64 bit OEL5 with Oracle Database gateway and unixODBC 2.2.14.
DB link works. However, null values from DB2 cause problems. Date columns that are null on db2 return a date '30.11.0002', and character columns that are null return an error ORA-28528: Heterogeneous Services datatype conversion error.
    isql returns correct results.
How can i fix this? Perhaps set some parameters for data conversion on the gateway?
    Thank you.

If the driver is not fully ODBC level 3 compliant and misses functions, we're lost. But sometimes the drivers are ODBC level 3 compliant but miss the correct 64bit implementation. In those cases we can tell the gateway to use the 32bit ODBC level 3 standard by setting in the gateway init file:
    HS_FDS_SQLLEN_INTERPRETATION=32

  • I want to uninstall ReloadEvery as I think it is causing problems however it is not in my list of Extensions or Plugins yet it is clearly installed, I tried reinstalling FF but it was still there! How can I get rid of it?

I installed ReloadEvery a while ago and it seemed to be working fine however I am now having problems with FF crashing and weird things like pages not reloading and not being able to use the back button etc
I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling FF and upgrading to FF 4.
When I upgraded to FF 4 I was still having problems even though I didn't have any Extensions installed at all, or so I thought. I noticed that ReloadEvery was still installed. I was rather puzzled as I had done a clean install of FF 4. I want to remove ReloadEvery to see if it will solve my problems.
I have also tried following the help on the FF Troubleshooting about manually uninstalling Extensions but again ReloadEvery not listed there yet I am still able to use it in FF!
I want to get rid of it!! I really need some help please.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the <i>cookies.sqlite</i> file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • FF 3.6 AND 5 on same Mac, 1 profile - can I uninstall 5 without causing problems running 3.6 or with the profile?

I upgraded from 3.6.16 to 5, but don't like how 5 handles tabs (auto reloading 'problem loading' tabs when internet connection is reestablished). So I installed 3.6 in a separate folder, e.g. both versions are on this computer. I went back to using 3.6, and let it upgrade to either 3.6.18 or 19 (don't recall which & it's not open right now). I'm having problems with it using too much CPU & Memory, and not sure if that's a difference between 3.6.16 & 3.6.18/19, or if having 5 on the same computer even if closed could be causing the problem.
Can I uninstall 5 without causing problems with the 3.6 version and the single profile?

If you haven't tried this, give it a try. It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you. In your version 3 firefox, disable all extensions, I had two plugins (doubletwist and joost, disable those if you have them). Then install firefox 5 by overwriting your version 3 firefox. It should work fine after that. I tried everything before, I gave that a last ditch shot. Oh yeah, before you install firefox 5, clear your cache of everything just to be sure.
    Hopefully that helps.

  • I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account. Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

Java 6 you can't as Apple maintains it, and Java 7 you could if you uninstall it and Oracle provides the earlier version which they likely won't his last update fixed 37 remote exploits.
Java broken some software here and there, all you'll have to do is wait for a update from the other parties.
